In Their Words How does one possibly summarize Lutheran Summer Music 2010 in less than 500 words? The “ODJ” (that’s our Online Daily Journal at lsmodj.wordpress.com where students and faculty post daily blog entries) does just that.

Today was an amazing day!! It started off with an alarm clock buzzing in my left ear and a smile appearing on my face. Why? Because it was a new day given to me as a gift by God and on a lighter note, I get to see my parents in less than two days!

I made it to breakfast in the caf just Celebr ate 30 years! in time to grab a bagel and some yogurt and then jet off to Morning Prayer and Announcements, which, Luther College, Decor ah, IA by the way, I LOVE singing Luther’s That’s right, 30 years! Please join us for Morning Prayer in the morning. Such this special occasion. See page 5 for details. a wonderful way to begin the day! It was followed by my last musicianship Reading the ODJ can immediately transport class with Brooke Joyce, the AHHHMAZING anyone in the LSM community back to their composer-in-residence here at LSM. We had summer home in Decorah. Dietrich’s entry, a lot of fun composing music and playing it from Tuesday, July 14, 2010, captures the Luther an Faith spirit of Lutheran Summer Music:

“I learned how fast I can grow better as a musician surrounded by an environment of other serious kids. The band at my school would have taken years to do what we did in a month.” *

“There are a lot of youth who feel the same way I do about the church, and it made me feel connected.” * for one another. After that was some free time where I hung out with my good friend Michael and we played Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. Such a gorgeous piece of music!!! It was followed by a nice and relaxing Chapel Choir rehearsal due to the fact that we had just performed [the LSM Hymn Festival] the night before. After Chapel Choir, I headed off to lunch in the caf. Then after lunch, my good friend continued on page *other student voices from LSM 2010
