Duringhersenioryearofhighschool,Lindseywasgivenanassignment:goonline andfindachurchyoumightliketoattendnearwhereyou’regoingtocollege.Since shegrewupLutheran,thefirstkeywordinhersearchwaseasy:“Lutheran.”Butthen camethemoredifficultdecision:didLindseylookforsomewherethathadthecloseknitfeelofthesmallmidwesternchurchshehadspentherearlyyears,where peopleknewhernameandcareddeeplyaboutherstory?Or,didshewant somethinglikethechurchshebelongedtoinherteenageyears,wheretherewere morepeopleherageandadiversityofexperienceandopinion?
Insteadofhavingtochoose,Lindseyfoundalloftheabove.Aftersearchingonline throughmanydifferentchurchesandcampusministriesinMorgantown,your LutheranCampusMinistryatWestVirginiaUniversitywastheonethatbecamereal
forLindseywhenChaplain Courtneyreachedoutwith wordsofencouragementand prayerbeforeLindseyhadeven steppedfootoncampus.When shewalkedthroughtheChapel doorsthatfirstSunday,Lindsey wasgreetednotonlybya diversecommunityofpeersbut alsobypeoplewhoalready knewhernameandwantedto knowmoreaboutherstory.“I justknew,”Lindseysharesabout discerningwhichfaithcommunityshewouldjoinduringcollege.“Iwanted someplacewhereIcouldgrowinmyfaithandformmyownopinion—nottobetold whatI’m‘supposedtodo’buttoexplorewhatIwanttodo.”
LeavingherhomeinMinnesotatoliveandlearninthemountainsofAppalachiawas abigchange,butthecommunityyourLutheranCampusMinistryatWestVirginia Universitycultivates,throughworship,sharedmeals,fellowship,andstudy,gives... (continuedonp.2)

WecelebratedGod’sinfiniteloveforournewestsisterinChrist,Chelsea,asshewas baptizedattheSundaymorningMassduringourOctoberHomeBaseretreatfor HighSchoolersinWestVirginiaandWesternMaryland.Chelsea,whoisalsopartof theCampLuthercommunity,wasbaptizedduringworshipamongmanyfriends andmentors,includingbaptismalsponsorsSteveGabbertandAlyHill.
ThanksbetoGodwehavecurrentlyraised$28,602forourCapital FundtofixouriconicChapelroof!Asweworktowardourgoalof $162,000,weareexcitedtoreplaceourroofforthegenerationsof LutheranMountaineerstocomeandallGodhasinstoreforus!

It’seasytoseetheHolySpiritmovingin thebigways:newstudentsbeingledto yourLutheranCampusMinistryatWest VirginiaUniversityatthestartofthe semester,Baptisms,andourHomeBase retreatforHighSchoolers.Butmoreoften thannotwearefeelingGod’smovement inthethesmallmomentsthathappen betweenoneeventandanother:a student’squestionwhisperedinpassingatthebaptismalfont:“howdoIremember mybaptism?”;aconversationcelebratingahermeneuticalepiphany(realization aboutamethodforinterpretingandunderstandingapassageinscripture); bondinginasharedgriefoverourdearMountaineers’footballseason;orbeingable totalkwithyourchaplainduringanelectioncycle.
