An Bacus Beag-Passionate about fresh baking Since opening the doors to An Bácús Beag in May we have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome and the support we have received from the local community and beyond. We would like to take the opportunity to say a very big thank you each and every one of you! Our resident Baker Johnathan started baking as a hobby many moons ago and decided to go back to college and study Baking & Pastry Arts Management in Dublin Institute of Technology. Over the last number of years he has gained experience in some fantastic bakeries in Ireland, spending the last three years in Bread Naturally. Finally, this year we fulfilled a dream to open An Bácús Beag. We are a small family run business. Johnathan is joined by his wife Michelle, his brother Carl and Carl’s partner Deborah. We are passionate about real bread and freshly baked goods, all made from scratch using only organic flour and raw, locally sourced ingredients where possible. Donabate Presbyterian Church Discovery 2018

Discovery 2018 will be the 8th year in a row of our kids club that takes place in Donabate every summer. This year we’re running the camp from Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August and we’re getting ready for a fun filled week of games and sports, craft, Bible stories, music, drama and much much more! Discovery started 8 years ago with a small group of kids playing games on the green beside Scrum Diddly’s and has grown to 2 large camps happening simultaneously with well over 100 kids attending every year. This year our Junior camp ( Junior Infants to 3rd Class) will be in Donabate Portrane Community Centre from 10:45-12:45 and our theme is Jungle Adventure! We’ll be transforming upstairs in DPCC into a tropical jungle and playing some crazy jungle games and making jungle craft! This will save you having to buy flights to Brazil! Our Senior camp (4th-6th Class) meeting in Donabate Educate Together N.S from 10:30-12:30 is going to be a Sports Camp this year! We’re excited to be playing soccer, GAA, basketball, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, water sports and a few surprises! Both camps are completely free! We can’t wait to see you there!

Preparations are well under way in Donabate and Portrane for the Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival in September. The festival, now in it’s sixth year, has become a highlight of late summer on the peninsula, with something to entertain everyone. This year, the festival will run for 10 days with something for everyone. The Bleeding Pig Festival showcases talent from across the generations of local residents, aged from 8 to 88 and beyond! From Thursday 6th September until Sunday 16th September, the Donabate and Portrane peninsula will be a hive of cultural activity. There will be a full timetable of diverse events in various different locations. From Silk Screen Printing to Céilí dancing, Short Films to Sing-a-longs, Storytelling to a Gala Concert, and Children’s Concerts to Nature Walks, there will be something to entertain festival-goers of all ages. This year, along with an abundance of local talent, the Festival will feature performances from some renowned visiting artists, including: Members of the Blanchardstown Brass Band,the Dublin String Quartet, featuring sisters Jenny and Aoife Dowdall, plus friends Siubhán Ní Ghríofa and Sylvia Roberts,the Dublin Male Welsh Voice Choir,the O’Donnell Sisters,and Celtic Drummers. All events in the Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival are free of charge. The Donabate Portrane ICA / Play in Pink Project

The Donabate Portrane ICA guild meets in the Community Centre on the 2nd and 4th Thursday evening each month from September to May. During the past year we were very involved with the Harry Clarke exhibition that was held in December in the Parish Hall. When January arrived, we were ready for a new project. The guild had been approached to see if we would be willing to support the Play in Pink programme run by the friends of the Breast Cancer Research, Symptomatic Breast Unit of University Hospital Galway. With the exhibition behind us, we were ready and willing. What was needed was bunting to decorate the various golf clubs where the Play in Pink competitions take place. A very interesting talk from Miriam Hand, who represents the research unit fundraising, was the momentum needed to get us going. (The miserable weather was also a great contribution to the project too in that we were more housebound and the bright colours were cheery to work with when all was white outside!) When Miriam re-visited us at our first April meeting we were able to present her with 150 yards of beautiful bunting. We were surprised at our effort and she was amazed! We were delighted to be able to make a really practical donation to this deserving charity â€“ from women for women.

Donabate/Portrane Summer Festival Sandcastle Competition

Take a June Bank holiday weekend, add sun, sea and sand; throw in a crowd of enthusiastic children ( and helpful parents ), combine all this mixture with a sandcastle competition on Donabate beach and the result is a recipe for a huge helping of fun and creativity ! This all took place last June bank holiday weekend on Donabate beach under the auspices of the Donabate/Portrane Summer Festival when we welcomed over a hundred children and their parents to the event.The variety and originality

of the sandcastles created over the two days was truly amazing; we had everything from the traditional fortifications to dinosaur fish, to a cat watching a mouse watching the cheese, a hippopotamus, and many many more unique creations. Spotting a very difficult decisionmaking task we enrolled the help of the lifeguards on duty and after much debate the following were the worthy winners of vouchers kindly sponsored by Scrumdiddlys, Donabate. Saturday winners: 1st prize the D’Capocci family with ‘Heritage

Site’; 2nd prize the Nangle family with Ariels castle; 3rd prize the Dunne-Sherlock family with ‘Rock Castle’.Sunday winners: 1st prize the O’Keefe family with Jack the Turtle; 2nd prize the Conkeely family with Hippo Castle; 3rd prize Priscilla and Leo with Cat and Mouse. Don’t forget the Donabate/Portrane Summer Festival takes place this year from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th August. Donabate Golf Club-Cancer Caring Day 32 years ago Mr. Jim Clinton and a small group of Donabate Golf Club members set up The Cancer Caring Charity. The Cancer Caring annual golf fundraising day is held at DonabateGolf Club every May and has been a major source of income for the charity. This year the club raised €10,000 which was donated to St Frances Hospice. Since the Charities inception the total funds raised are in excess on €700,000.00

with funds being distributed to St Francis Hospice, Pieta House, the Kerry Hospice, Barretstown and other deserving individuals. Gavin Moynihan, PGA Tour Professional & recent winner at Golfsixes, was a former junior member at Donabate GC and donated several items for auction at the Cancer Caring auction including his first Junior Ryder Cup golf bag.

The Fingal Mayor’s Community Awards Betsy Abu, Winner of the Mayor’s Social Inclusion Award

The Fingal Mayor’s Community Volunteer Awards took place in Castleknock Hotel recently where winners were presented with awards by former RTE Newsreader, Aengus MacGrianna. The awards take place each year to recognise the work of volunteers and the positive impact they have on communities across Fingal and are arranged by Fingal’s Public Partipation Network and Fingal County Council’s Community Department. Congratulating the winners in each category, Mayor McCamley said: “In Fingal, there are so many active and dedicated volunteers who make a huge difference to their communities. The impact they have on social, environmental and recreational wellbeing in our towns and communities

is hugely positive and I am delighted we have the opportunity to recognise them.” The winners were: - Social Inclusion Award - Betsy Abu from the Balbriggan Integration Group and the runner up was Ger Kenny who volunteers with Little Seeds Club for children and teenagers with autism in the Ongar area. Active Citizenship Award -Rose Emmet from Clean-Up Mulhuddart and the runner up was Ema Idowu of Balbriggan Youth Services. The Creative Arts, Culture and Heritage Award - John Halford who has volunteered with the Blanchardstown Brass band for over 50 years while Bernie Walsh was awarded runner up. Bernie has been a volunteer and key committee member of Coolmine Musical Society for over 20 years. Community Facilities Award-, Kieran O’Neill who volunteers in Castleknock Community Centre Association . He also won the Overall Fingal Mayor’s Community Volunteer Award. Lisa Crehan of Failte Isteach in Tyrellstown was the runner up. The Sport and Recreation Award-Billy Bebbington who has volunteered for the Sutton dinghy Club for over 20 years - while Edward Darcy, group leader of 34th/161st scouts in Balbriggan for over 30 years, came in as runner up. The Unsung Hero Special Recognition Awards- Barney Greene, Jennifer Hughes and Anthony Lyons. Barney organises the annual tractor run starting at the Man O’War, and raises money for St Francis Hospice. Jennifer volunteers with Special Olympics Ireland as Aquatics Head coach since 2010 while Anthony maintains the grass verges and flower beds along the Blakestown road from St.Peregrines GAA Club all the way up to St.Philip’s Church in Mountview. He also cuts the grass and maintains the grounds at St.Philips Church. The People’s Choice Award - Joseph Bennett who is an active member of the Whitestown Estate Management Group. Congratulations to them all.

Community Council disappointed at loss of trees

The loss of hundreds of mature trees on the Donabate peninsula has been described as deeply disappointing by Donabate Portrane Community Council.The community council said along with the felling of mature trees, hedgerows were also being dug up, at an alarming rate on the peninsula. The DPCC say a total of 900 trees have been cut down in St Ita’s Hospital grounds to accommodate the building of the new National Forensic Mental Hospital. A spokesperson said , “This includes 121 highvalue and moderate-value rated trees, according to An Bord Pleanála consent for the project. Some of these were indigenous oaks which were centuries old.A few years ago Fingal County Council removed the graceful Poplars on Portrane Rd, claiming they were dangerous. These trees

were a feature of the area.Replacements were planted but are proving slow to grow, with some of them now dead.Ancient trees have been cut down in Ballymastone area of the peninsula, which it is presumed is to accommodate the new Donabate distributor road.” The spokesperson went on the say, “Recently a very mature tree was been felled on the Hearse Road.Meanwhile, vandals keep snapping newly planted trees in blossom on the Beaverstown Road. “ Donabate Portrane Community Council said it appreciated the efforts of Fingal County Council which has repeatedly replaced these young trees on the Beaverstown Road. However the spokesperson added, “ We accept that the removal of trees was a direct consequence

of development works that are being carried out in the area, but the loss of so many trees was deeply disappointing. It was a shame that decades-old trees had to be removed in such large numbers in an area renowned for its greenery.” Donabate Portrane Community Council called on the authorities to consider the importance of trees, and the need to retain as many matures ones as possible given how long they take to grow. The retention of mature trees needs to be given greater priority by the planning authorities in Fingal County Council and in An Bord Pleanála decisions when applications are being considered as the ambience of the area will be damaged if more trees are lost, the community council said.

Widening of Hearse Road and Tree Felling

Cllr Adrian Henchy issued the following statement regarding the widening of the Hearse Road and the tree felling which has taken place recently. As most people on the Peninsula are aware, one of the legacy infrastructural deficits that has been flagged for many years is the narrow stretch of road on the approach to Donabate Village between the Maxol Garage and Donabate railway bridge. When An Bord Pleanala gave a grant of permission for the National Forensic Mental Hospital build at St Ita’s Hospital, Portrane in June 2015, there were a number of conditions laid down by An Bord Pleanala. One of which was for Fingal County Council in conjunction with the HSE to upgrade and widen the narrow stretch of road just after Donabate railway bridge. Unfortunately this condition was not straightforward as the land in

question was not actually owned by Fingal County Council. The resolution of this compliance has taken far too long and has been very frustrating for everyone on the Peninsula who have known that this stretch of road is completely unsuitable especially for HGV’s and buses. Regarding the tree felling, the vast bulk of trees that have been knocked are in connection with the building of the Donabate Distributor road. I like many people in our community was shocked to find so many tress felled many of them iconic trees especially along the Portrane road and the Hearse road. As a result of the felling I wrote to both Fingal County Council and the contractor who is building the new road and this was the contractor’s response: ‘Cllr. Adrian, MEIC felled trees between the 22nd May and 29th of May along the route of the new distributor Road being constructed as part of out contract works. The trees were felled in a professional manner and in accordance with reports prepared by our Bat specialist Dr Tina Aughney and our Ecologist Ciaran Ryan. There is a detailed landscaping scope of works included in our contract that will be under way once the earthworks are complete which will compensate for the trees that have been removed. MEIC felled all trees that are in the direct line of the proposed road and left a maximum trees in position where at all possible. See attached some of the site clearance drawings which will give you a better idea of the intersections between the proposed road and existing tress/hedge roes.’ While the commencement of these works is long overdue, I am shocked at the scale of the tree felling and I will be scrutinising these drawings to ensure our landscape is protected in any future works.I do welcome the fact that the bulk of these works will be carried out while the schools are closed and many people will be taking their holidays. I also fully recognise that there are other areas of our peninsula where the road and footpath infrastructure needs to be improved and upgraded and I will continue to campaign strongly and work with all community groups to have these addressed also.,” he concluded.

He offers a thought-provoking window into the utter self-sacrifice of the women folk, who somehow reared their families on next to nothing, and village life in general. The insights into his personal experiences and working life as an emigrant, to the still bomb-damaged and struggling Manchester of 1952, are uniquely revealing. The author’s memories take us on a captivating journey from Avonmouth to London (and his subsequent activities in Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and Bow – where he lived for four years) back to Ireland and a job at Aer Lingus, via the USA.’ This book is a must read for everyone either native to or now living in the North Dublin area. It tells how he was born in the early thirties in Castleblondin, Co. Kilkenny. How he was the second son of talented working-class parents who moved to Dublin in 1934 to live in a tithed house in Brackenstown from which they were ultimately evicted. He recalls his trials in life at school, emigrating to England and returning home penniless. However it also tells of his determination to succeed, his world travels, and of his migration again to Canada and subsequent return to Dublin where he honed his skills as a writer through a course in DCU. Overall this is a book about life experiences, many of which some will relate to especially those living in the North Dublin area and is a great insight into its past. The book is packed with humour, empathy and very real observations, this personal odyssey will keep you engaged and entertained from beginning to end. Car Sharing Initiative expanded to North Fingal Towns

Fingal County Council and GoCar are delighted to launch the expansion of the pilot car-sharing scheme in North County Dublin. The launch took place in Swords main street,

where two GoCars are now available, along with 4 other locations in Malahide, Skerries and Portmarnock . The expansion is in response to the success of the pilot car-sharing scheme

in Dublin 15, launched in 2017. GoCar users can book cars online or via the app for as little as €8 an hour, then unlock with their phone or GoCard; the keys are in the car, with fuel, insurance and city parking all included. Rates start from €8 per hour, with 50KM of driving included on each trip. Since it was launched in 2008, over 30,000 members have signed up to GoCar, and it now offers over 400 vehicles across 300 locations in 15 Counties across Ireland. With pay as you go pricing and no subscription charges, it’s ideal for people who only need occasional access to a car but don’t want to own one, or families who need a second car sometimes. Car-sharing reduces car dependency, congestion, noise and air pollution, and frees up land traditionally used for parking spaces. Each shared car replaces approximately 15 private cars, as well as increasing use of public transport. Financial Wellbeing - Wealth in relation to health By Dave Kavanagh Money. Every choice you make, every activity you do, every change you contemplate, are in some way connected to your finances. Yet most people rarely take the time that their financial situation deserves, to plan it effectively. You have income and expenditure. The basic premise is that your income exceeds your expenditure, leaving you with disposable income. So if you keep your spending below your income, you’ll always have plenty of money left over and you’ll never have to worry about it. Simple right? Not exactly. Unless you’re extremely lucky, for most of us, it just doesn’t fall conveniently into place like that. The subject of money does, in fact, get cited in a host of situations from relationship issues, employment choices, lifestyle quality and in numerous ways, your health. Anything that can lead to anxiety, depression, guilt or restrict how well you look after yourself, can be detrimental to your health. And your finances can definitely impact in these areas. So what can you do differently and what can you be more aware of? The first step in managing and planning your finances with more efficiency, is to establish where you currently are. Most people know what their income presently is, but

they are not as sure about their expenditure. They’ll know the main items, but so much gets left out. Think of the last time you took €50 out of an ATM to pay €15 for something. What did the other €35 get spent on? Keep a detailed track of every cent spent for one month, to get a true picture.

Tips. A few basic actions that most people can do, to improve things: • Examine 3 months’ banks statements and make sure you can account for every single transaction. • Compare utility service providers. • Plan your shopping. Make a list and don’t shop while hungry. • Don’t wait until the last minute to compare before you renew things like car or home insurance. • Review premiums for things like mortgage protection and life cover. You DO NOT have to only take them out with your own bank. • Know your rights when an item is faulty and do not be fobbed off with “it’s out of warranty” (especially true with large kitchen appliances that break down after 18 months!) Planning. Once you have real figures, you can plan a little more accurately. Financial planning is primarily aimed at ensuring your current, future and unexpected income remains at least sufficient for you to live on. Everybody’s circumstances are different, so it is important to consider the financial loss that would be suffered in certain eventualities, but specifically to you.

Fingal County Council, Blanchardstown Institute of Technology (ITB) and the Dublin Dun-Laoghaire Education and Training Board (ETB) scooped a gold medal for their combined entry to Bloom in the Park 2018. Entitled ‘The Greener Way for Fingal’, the garden was designed by well known landscape Designer Jane Corkrell and the planting was carried out by ITB students of Horticulture under the supervision of their lecturers. The Local Training Initiative participants based in Bremore Castle, Balbriggan constructed all the hard landscape features and groundswork in this the eight year that Fingal have participated in Bloom. President Michael D Higgins with his wife, Sabina Higgins,were special visitors to the Fingal garden where they were welcomed by Ms Corkrell and the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Mary McCamley. Speaking after the award was announced the delighted Mayor said: ‘The Greener Way for Fingal is a celebration of the natural beauty found in our county. I’m delighted that the creativity, skills and hard work of Fingal staff, the ITB students and participants of the ETB have been recognised and rewarded.’

Donabate/Portrane aunt and niece scoop awards at Bloom Two local woman from Donabate/Portane won individual awards at this years Bloom in the Park by Bord Bia. An aunt Dolores Hand and her niece Adrienne Flood. Dolores Hand, is a previous gold winner of bloom in 2016 and this year she was awarded the Silver Gilt for ‘Summers Rich Tapestry’ in the AOIFA (Association of Irish Floral Artists) Floral Art competition. Meanwhile her neice Adrienne Flood, from Portrane,was awarded a Gold medal and Best in Show for her floral art design ‘In Homage To...’ Congratulations to both ladies.

Donabate SPDD criticises omission of question by FCC The failure of Fingal County Council to include a question about the continued closure of a public right-of-way in Donabate has been described as extraordinary by a local community group. Supporting Proper Development in Donabate (SPDD) had asked Councillor Paul Mulville to submit a question to the County Manager about the pathway this month. Officials in the council replied to Cllr Mulville that the question was omitted in error from the agenda for the June area meeting. The right-of-way is used by children on their way to all schools on the peninsula. The right-of-way crosses the Paddocks site which has planning permission for housing. It has been closed now for more than eight months despite its retention being a condition of the planning permission. The closure of the pathway forms part of a comprehensive, formal complaint made by SPDD made to Fingal County Council (FCC), which has been forwarded to Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. The question asked the Chief Executive of FCC “if he will outline the current position regarding the reinstatement of the pedestrian right-of-way on Ballisk Common between the Portrane Road and Donabate Portrane Community Centre, which is urgently needed on pedestrian safety grounds for children walking to school; if he is aware that Gas Networks Ireland have confirmed that the works on the gas main have now been completed; if he will outline when the path will be re-opened given the many missed deadlines to date for the re-opening?”A spokesperson for SPDD said it was extraordinary that the right-of-way was still closed, and that a question on the issue for the FCC Chief Executive was left off the agenda for the June area meeting. This month guys and girls I would like to introduce you to Project Fashion. Project Fashion is Ireland’s Leading Fashion Academy for Kids. The Academy is professionally run by Paul Alexander who is a designer himself. What I liked about all this is the fact that the children are actually learning about the history of fashion in such a fun way. The students in the academy range in age from7 to 15 years old. In our photoshoot, in Gino’s Ice Cream Parlour, the Children modelled their latest collection. The theme is Sidewalk to Catwalk and they based their designs on street culture from the 1920”s right up to the present day. Teddy Boys, Mods, Rockers,Hippies,Punks, Casuals and Goths. Their collection includes Biker Jackets, Tunic Dresses , Jumpsuits,50”s Dresses and lots more. Their outfits are also age appropriate which I think is so important these days. We don’t want our little girls age 7 upwards dressing like teens, thats all too progressive and we need to keep them young at heart and safe. The children really loved the photoshoot. They were showing me how they made their outfits and trimmings with matching buttons. They learn how to hand sew and machine sew and will even be learning 16

pattern making in these fabulous classes. At the end of each term of classes they get to model on the red carpet.and havebeen featured in the Pavilion in Swords fashion show and Flavours of Fingal in June. The summer camp is their next project which takes in 18 venues country wide. The theme is ‘Co Co The Movie’ with South American style and a mix of Latino Gyspy tops and up-cycled Jeans- re hashed into shorts and skirts with bright vibrant colours, culminating on a red carpet catwalk on the last day of camp The extra good news is I have invited Paul with 30 of his best children to open my Style Warrior Fashion and Entertainment Show on Sat 6 th Oct in Wrights Venue in aid of NECRET Cancer Research. A healthy Eton Mess that will impress!!!! “Eton Mess is a classic, easy and one of the most favourite Summer desserts. I have tweaked a few ingredients here and there to make a healthier yet very impressive version. The few ingredients needed in this recipe are readily available and relatively cheap which makes it ideal for any Summer parties, BBQ’s or keeping up with the figure!

Ingredients Makes 4

• 450g Vanilla Greek style yogurt 18

• 300g Summer berries (frozen/fresh) • 2 Pre-cooked/bought meringue nests • Juice of 1 lime • 6 fresh mint leaves, chopped finely

Method 1. Gently heat the berries with the lime juice and mint leaves on a hob on low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. 2. Place 3 tablespoons of the yogurt into each serving jar/dish. 3. Add 2 tablespoons of the heated berry mixture on top of the yogurt. 4. Finally crush half of a meringue nest

on top and enjoy! Tip: You can prepare these in advance up to Step 3 and then just before you serve them, add the meringue to ensure it gives a nice crunch! Ballrothery Union Burial Ground 100th Anniversary

By Tom Kilmurray A special 100th Anniversary remembrance mass was celebrated recently in Hedgestown National School Lusk by Rev Fr Gerard Moore. The event was coordinated over a number of years by Lusk resident Mrs Nina Flynn.A special arts and crafts competition was held in the weeks prior to the mass and talks by Lusk Historical Society kept the Staff and pupils informed about the history of the Ballrothery Union. A special stone cross was erected in 1918 at the site of the burial grounds of those who died across the road in the Balllrothery Union

Buildings. Fr Gerard Moore said he has celebrated mass over a number of years at the burial grounds.This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the erection of the Cross and he was particularly delighted to be there on that day in Hedgestown NS where he attended as a pupil many years ago.In his day there were only two rooms with four classes in each in the school. The acting school principal Colm Lawlor said he was delighted to welcome everybody to the mass and refreshments afterwards which were organised by the parents committee. There was great interest among the pupils and teachers to learn about the local history of the Balrothery union and he extended a special

welcome to past pupil Fr Gerrard Moore. Readings, singing and music were provided by the pupils and awards were presented to pupils for their special efforts. Historical Background: Balrothery Poor Law Union was formally declared on the 1st April 1839 and covered an area of 120 square miles. Its operation was overseen by an elected Board of Guardians, 23 in number, representing its 12 electoral divisions as listed below (figures in brackets indicate numbers of Guardians if more than one):Co. Dublin: Balbriggan (3), Ballyboghill, Balscaddan, Clonmethon, Donabate (2), Hollywood (2), Holmpatrick (2), Kilsallaghan (2), Kinsealy

[Kinsaley], Lusk (3), Malahide (2), Swords (3). The Board also included 7 ex-officio Guardians, making a total of 30. The population falling within the Union at the 1831 census had been 28,124 with Divisions ranging in size from Clonmethon (population 890) to Balbriggan (5,078). The new Balrothery Union workhouse was erected on a 24acre site about three miles to the north-west of Lusk. Designed by the Poor Law Commissioners’ architect George Wilkinson, the building followed one of his standard design to accommodate 400 inmates. ‘Flavours’ returns to Newbridge House, Donabate The Flavours of Fingal County Show, the hugely popular North County Dublin event which welcomed more than 80,000 people took place once again in Newbridge House and Farm, Donabate on the weekend of June 23rd – 24th. The Show, which was in its seventh year, combined the sights and sounds of Dublin’s only traditional agricultural show with an unforgettable food and family fun experience. Best of all, it was completely free of charge for visitors with the lowest carbon footprint as the organisers of the two-day event rewarded patrons who arrive on foot, used public transport or the free shuttle bus service provided by allowing entry completely free into the show. For those who opted to drive there was a car parking fee. The show was the result of months of works between Fingal County Council, the Fingal Farmers and Fingal Harriers, who tirelessly worked to create the most exciting mix of foodie, equestrian and farming attractions. Amongst these attractions were: food stalls boasting locally produced delicacies, craft and cooking demos, sheepdog and geese displays and a range of livestock shows. New to the show this year was a live

interactive living history zone with Vikings, Great War Society, the Big Dig, the Old Fingal IRA and the Fingal Village which featured, among many things, activities which are part of the 2018 national Cruinniu na nOg festival. There was also plenty for the kids to do. Bouncy castles face painting, a cycling velodrome, the Calvary of Heroes jousting displays, cycle obstacle courses, kids’ golf and lots more. With attractions including croquet, show jumping, a mobile petting farm and animal theatre, magic shows, biodiversity programmes and a huge agricultural show, there was something on offer for everyone to enjoy! Sheila Corbally, speaking on behalf of local farming group, Fingal Farmers, said: “Fingal Farmers are very proud partners of the Flavours of Fingal County Show and look forward every year to showcasing the best livestock, crafts and cookery Fingal has to offer.” Commenting on the equestrian element of the show, Brian Beggan of the Fingal Harriers, said: “Flavours of Fingal County Show offers a unique opportunity for the very vibrant equestrian community of Fingal to show their horses in the very unique setting of Newbridge House.”

St Pats Donabate -Feile Success & Cul Camp

Every season is an enjoyable one in Pats; we’re lucky to have such an abundance of talented & dedicated juveniles from Academy through to Minors. This year has been a most enjoyable one though with so much success on the pitches - in Dublin and further afield. We travelled to Ardara in Donegal for the U12 Mick Herron Memorial Tournament where our squads both made the finals. Team I lost out to Donegal’s An Tearmainn 2-07 to 2-01 but Team II beat Sligo’s St Mary’s 2-04 to 0-06. We also took part in Naomh Mearnóg’s Govan Joliffe-Byrne U13 Tournament where our lads won the highly contested Shield Final against valiant hosts Naomh Mearnog. Our U14 boys & girls squads both competed in the annual U14 Feile putting in superb performances in all games. Especial congratulations go the Boys I squad who made it all the way to becoming Dublin Division 2 Champions beating Castleknock 1-06 to 0-05 in an enthralling county final. They’ve booked their place at National Feile level and we wish them well as they head to Down for more games. Cul Camp St Pats Cúl Camp takes place 09 - 13 July at their home grounds of Ballymastone. The camp caters for Primary School children aged 5 -13 and is run by the Club’s GPO (Games Promotion Officer) Pio Kennedy backed up qualified local volunteer coaches & cinnirí. It’s always a fun week with coaching in the morning and games in the afternoon. With great weather forecast for the summer, the Club are looking forward to another great week.
