Prez Sez Kia ora, There are 23 days left of the main academic year. All of you probably deserve a congratulations for getting to this point. But for many of you you’re about to be done for good. The next few weeks of hard work will be well worth it when you cross the stage in April having graduated.

You’ve recently elected your 2018 Executive. I think you’ve got an incredible group of students who will truly be able to make a massive contribution to Lincoln University. Keep an eye out for them next year, let them know what you’re thinking, get amongst what their organising and remember they are your voice to the University. This means they know how to get things done to make your time here that much better.

My final words of ‘wisdom’ are get amongst all that Lincoln has to offer. It’s a bloody awesome place, but ultimately it can only be as good as you all make it. If you want a new club, or Thursday Quiz Nights, or a Staff vs. Student Shearing Competition, just do it.

Let LUSA know and we’ll give you all the support to make it happen. When you head off after exams don’t forget that. Be proud of being a Lincoln student. Spread the good word of what happens here and get ready for an exciting but challenging 2018.

Meet Your 2018 Student Executive LINCOLN events. The beautiful thing about Lincoln is that we have a tightly knit student culture and have similar interests. Let’s capitalise on that by introducing Lincolncentric events, alongside the current successful events that are similar to other universities.

How cool would a staff vs student shearing competition be on the Forbes Lawn?

Small gains make a big difference. Has anyone noticed that there is a door out the back of the library? Think, how much difference would it make to get this opened up, rather than circumnavigating the globe to get out the back of uni (plus it would better promote usage of the workshop).

James Ranstead Kia ora koutou Lincoln University students. After a year of setting ourselves up for success (shifting to Forbes and hiring some excellent new staff), LUSA is in a position to hit the ground running in 2018. The wonderful Danyon Thomas is off to bigger and better things, and I am ready to take on his position as president.

Greater international and domestic student integration. Domestic and international students have been saying for years that they would like to get to know one another better, yet why is it that campus accommodation separates them?

Club support. Running a club is bloody hard work. Providing a strong backing to those really keen people will have trickle down effects to overall club success.

It is my dream (dreams are free) to change Lincoln Universities ‘second grade academic university’ mentality. Why aren’t there more academic scholarships? Why are there awards evenings for clubs, community, sports and staff, and not for academic success? And so what if I get on the dean’s list?

Yeah, Lincoln has its areas it needs to improve on. Thankfully I am an optimist, and am motivated to make progress on these issues that really matter. I already have a years’ experience with LUSA as your AGLS rep, which will give me the chance to continue the progress that has been made this year.

I’m applying to be the role of Vice President for LUSA as I see a lot of potential for the student’s association here at Lincoln. Student interaction with LUSA has been improving and can continue to do so, through investing in social media activity more so.

As LUSA vice president, everything I do will be for the students, ensuring they get what they want – including clubs, events and academia. I am passionate about Lincoln University, and believe if chosen for this role, I will enhance the opportunities for students in every aspect of university life.

I grew up on a large sheep and beef farm an hour south from Dunedin and both my parents studied at Lincoln many moons ago. I want to be your secretary next year to bring a real sense of community for the small group of people that stay on to do postgraduate study. At the moment, very little is being done to allow postgrad students to meet and make new connections and friendships. It can be quite isolating being a postgrad student at Lincoln, but it is my aim to work to change this next year so that everyone at Lincoln gets to enjoy the student experience and don’t feel out of place after finishing undergrad.

Before starting at Lincoln, I spent a bit of time trotting the globe. I’m passionate about helping to alleviate poverty, having volunteered in six different countries.

I’m particularly interested in how agriculture can be used to help improve people’s livelihoods, which is why I’m studying at Lincoln. Besides helping out overseas, I’m pretty keen on trying to make Lincoln Uni a better place as well. My experience as a Residential Assistant and Club President has given me experience in roles helping students enjoy their time at Lincoln, and I’m keen to continue that.

Mac Thomson G’day! I made the move to Lincoln Uni last year to study B.Com specialising in Supply Chain Management & Global Business. I’m from Adelaide, South Australia and I’ve well and truly settled into the Lincoln life.

Lincoln University has an unreal student environment that has connected a great bunch of boys and girls from all over. It has been awesome to be a part of, and I couldn’t imagine studying anywhere else. This passion for supporting my fellow students, as well as my previous experiences on club boards and committees has given me the drive and confidence to represent your views and make sure that we definitely have our voice heard.

2018 is shaping up to be a big year with construction continuing and course structures changing- providing a new experience for all students. As a General Rep I will ensure that the students’ experience and wellbeing is the main priority throughout everything that will be going on. I will make sure that the freshers enjoy themselves from the get go as well as us final year students finish with a rippa last year. Cheers!

The Uni is undergoing continued attempts to cut costs, and a strong student voice is critical to make sure we maintain and improve the quality of our student experience. I will make sure the student voice is heard. I envision a Uni where students have a great time, while gaining a top-notch qualification.

Kia ora koutou! My name is Claire and I am currently a postgrad student doing a Masters in Natural Resource Management and Ecological Engineering (which is quite the mouthful!).

I’ve been around Lincoln for a while now, having knocked off a B Com Ag, and now plugging away at my Masters of Agribusiness. My hometown is Waimate, (AKA the Land of Milk and Honey).

Kristy Havill Hi team! After a cracker of a year on the LUSA Executive in 2017, I’m jumping back in the mixer to give it another whirl next year. I’ll be in my third year of a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management, hopefully (fingers crossed) representing New Zealand at the World Championships for clay-target shooting and dabbling in a bit of cricket on the side.

We’ve made some great progress this year on campus, with lecture walk-outs for the General Election, vast improvements of the Student Rep system and the continuing rejuvenation of Clubs just to name a few. Now with a full staff, and your new Executive, life will get a whole lot better next year – with some big plans in terms of student-dedicated spaces.

I love a good yarn about anything, am not afraid of being told what I can improve on and have an overall passion for helping people. Most importantly I’m a student and will back each and every one of you and your interests, and represent you to the best of my ability.

Ally Burns Hi everyone, my name is Ally Burns. I am currently a second-year student here at Lincoln studying Supply Chain Management and Global Business and am absolutely loving my time so far!

I was sold on Lincoln ever since I came to the open day back in 2015 and have since found many more reasons to love it. I have a particular interest in being a voice for students and supporting the academic development and growth happening on campus. I hope that as a general rep I can make others aware of all the great opportunities that are available to the students and be able to help in continuing improvements.

I enjoy meeting and mixing with all sorts of people and hearing what they have to offer, all of which will be really useful in this role. I have had experience in being a student rep and a club president over the last couple of years and am excited to have the opportunity to serve the Lincoln student community in a new way.

TIPS AND TRICKS

From those who have learnt from their mistakes!

It’s almost the end of the year, and exams are looming, so there’s nothing like dressing up and letting loose! But first, here’s a few tips on how to survive Garden Party 2017.

DON’T COME IN TOO HOT!

GET THERE EARLY

It’s gonna be a long day. You’ll probably start at 5am, so pace yourself and make sure you actually make it! It would suck to be put straight into detox or be sent back to your hall because you peaked too soon!

Make the most of your ticket! Also, the opening act is epic and before you know it the bands are kicking off and you don’t want to miss the action! Gates open at 10am and be there by 11am.

WEAR SUNSCREEN

COMING ONLY

You’ll get burnt as hell, even if it’s cloudy. You won’t realise till you sober up and take a hot shower, and it stings like a mo fo! There will be sunblock dotted around the place and try and incorporate a hat into your costume or use sunblock spray in your hairline part, otherwise a week later it will look like you have dandruff! Minging.

There will be no coming and going from Garden Party.

Once you leave you can’t come back in. So make sure those costumes are secure, bring a few safety pins if need be, make sure you don’t forget your money, ID & tampons!

RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE Nothing stops Garden Party, so check the weather forecast before you come and be prepared. Organise your costume with the forecast in mind too. Feel free to take a breather in one of our tents if the sun gets too much.

BE NICE Be nice to staff, police, volunteers etc. They are a great bunch of people and if you’re nice to them they’ll be nice to you. Plus it may be for your own good even if you don’t realise it at the time.

LET OTHERS KNOW YOU’RE OK Put a call through to Mum or Dad at 9am. They’ll love it, especially when they are at work! Also, look after your mates. There will be medics and support staff there in case of any serious issues.

EATS There is a FREE cooked breakfast in the Dining Hall from 7am – 10am. All ticket holders are welcome! There will also be a FREE BBQ at the event from the Christian Fellowship.

Want to splash out, then there will be Pita Pit, Tommy Taco, Mr Whippy, slushies, hot chips, burgers, hot dogs and much more for purchase.

DRINKS Stay hydrated too - helps with the hangover and acting like a tool on the day. Stay looking sexy and you may even hold a conversations long enough to pick up!

Alcoholic drinks can be purchased from the drink ticketing tent until 3pm. $5 per ticket.

COSTUME TIPS

DOOR SALES

The bigger the costume, the more likely you’ll be tackled. Make sure your costume is porta-loo friendly.

Nothing worse than pissing yourself because it took too long to undo or you got stuck trying to get in or out of the loo, or it drags all over the brown, slimy wet floor in there.

Door sales will only be available if we have not sold out but there is no guarantee! Plus they will to be more expensive than buying them prior to event day.

Arseless chaps probably aren’t a good idea unless you’re into getting your butt smacked all day! No nudity... please! Don’t be offensive to any religion or race. Wear sensible shoes. The grass gets sloppier as the day goes one. Jandal jam is inevitable but better than a stiletto heel getting stuck in the grass.

COSTUME NO NO’S You won’t be admitted into Garden Party if your costume involves: real or fake weapons, ammunition, dead or alive animals. Get creative. Garden Party has a wicked history of epic costumes, so do a bit of research and lets see what you come up with.

NO smuggling in any booze, weed, party pills, e, p, mdma, weapons whatever - even if it’s part of your Walter White or Game of Thrones costume.

BYO? HELL NO! No bottles of any kind (even if they are sealed) or food can be brought into Garden Party. No need! We have it all in there for you. There will be bag checks on entry.

BE PROACTIVE You’re starting early, so prepare for a 10pm hangover.

Stock up the day before with Powerade, hang over snacks, even order yourself a pizza to be delivered at lunchtime the next day (as you’ll probably still be too pissed from the day before to drive). You’ll love yaself when you get home to a feed waiting for you.

PRE & AFTER PARTIES Register any parties with Good One - goodone.org.nz .

Good One is all about helping you have a great party without things getting crazy. Make sure you know who’s all coming over and remember to think of your neighbours. Go let them know what’s going down. One registered party will even have Red Frogs turn up to cook the whole team pancakes for breakfast!

HAVE FUN! Garden Party is a must-do experience for all students and the biggest Lincoln Uni party of the year! So, go in with a wicked attitude, meet as many new people as you can, dance your ass off, take heaps of photos of those wicked costumes and have a great time!

Lincoln University AgResearch Joint Facility The detailed design for the Joint Facility is well under way, with conversation now turning to things like door handles and colour palettes. The colour palette has been on display in the library for a while now. It has a great story behind it, with the design using materials and colours inspired by the natural landscape around Canterbury and references to local agriculture.

Welcome to the Monthly SADD! We have had a very eventful month here at SADD busy preparing for our REMEMBER SEPTEMBER DAY which was held on the 26th of September. At our event we had a sausage sizzle, an obstacle course with beer goggles, a ‘what would you miss’ car (all the things you would miss if you were in a car accident tomorrow) and lots of conversation cards about SADD!!

Cancer Society & Key To Life Charity Fundraiser

On the 5th September 2017, OT Photography NZ held a charity fundraiser for New Zealand’s Cancer Society, and Mike King’s ‘Key To Life’ Charitable Trust, in order to help raise awareness to the severity of both Cancer and mental health/ suicide, and how they’re affecting so many New Zealanders every year.

Raffle tickets were sold, and donations were made to help raise money, which was split between these two amazing community charities.

To conclude the event, we formed the words #ITSOK with the very patient and kind-hearted audience of Mike King’s speech, and were photographed from the air, to create a photo for the RAM and to sell around the local community to help raise awareness.

International Club Update The International Club has been in full swing this semester. A new influx of students have arrived and everyone is more eager than ever to mix and mingle.

On Friday 21 July, the club hosted a potluck dinner for its members.

Those who attended brought a plate of food relevant to their home country that everyone can share and enjoy. We had 30 people in attendance from various different cultures and nationalities. The Potluck Dinner was an awesome way for attendees to interact with one another in a relaxed and social environment, to create new friendships. I encourage everyone to attend the next dinner as it is a great way to network with people from all over the world!

The week following, the club held a friendly badminton competition in conjunction with the Badminton Club here on campus. This was a great way for the two clubs to socialise and meet new people. Our badminton skills were put to the test which resulted in plenty of laughs and fun for all. The Lincoln University International Club would like to thank the Badminton Club for being so welcoming and supporting of this initiative. No doubt new friendships have been made!

Semester 2 has also been full of action. We are hosting a “coffee catchup event� where club members and domestic students can interact and share conversation. Halls of Residence: Sunday Baking

A new initiative for halls students this year has been Baking Sundays.

Every fortnight Halls students are given free rein over the Catering Kitchen to make whatever they’d like. A few Sundays ago a group from Hudson came together to put on a High Tea for all of their hall – how cool!

Global Challenges: Students on the Town On Sunday the 24th of September, a bunch of our Global Challenge Scholarship students went out visiting the Lincoln Township to “show and tell” their projects.

The students visited various churches in Lincoln and shared their projects with the communities. The projects chosen for the visit were community oriented and so sparked people’s interest.

Members of the communities interacted with the students asked questions and expressed opinions. This was a wonderful opportunity for the Lincoln community to meet LU students and discover mutual areas of interest.

Her passion lies in preventing intimate partner violence, including sexual violence. Alongside her academic studies, Sophie has developed her ‘Empower-yourself’ guidelines and workshops which present ways in which communities can prevent violence by empowering individuals to develop positive sexualities, and healthy, relationships built around consent and respect.

On the Saturday 9 September the LU Tramping and Climbing Club held the inaugural Castle Hill Boulder Marathon, a rock-climbing competition on the limestone boulders of Kura Tawhiti/Castle Hill. Back in the good old days there were a number of bouldering competitions held at Castle Hill, but this dwindled to a single comp every year as part of the national series.

Now even the national series is held indoors, but the outdoor comps are great fun and a fantastic way to introduce people to the magic of Castle Hill.

Lunchtime was at Architect Creek Hut after which we continued trekking up the Copland river. We crossed some amazing swing bridges and a few gnarly looking slips. With energy running low but hot pools on our mind the Welcome Flats hut was a ‘welcome’ sight. The evening was spent eating, yarning, star gazing and hoping between hot pools. It would have to be one of the best huts I have ever been to purely because of the hot pools and the amazing scenery that went with it.

The next morning, we hiked out the same route. The walk out was even better than the walk in. The sun was shining, it was warm, and I found an amazing hiking stick (SCORE!!). The drive home involved a stop in at the brand-new Franz Josef DOC office and a Photo Cred to Anna Adriani

The trip would have to be one of my highlights of the year. Needless to say, I think everyone needs to do this hike at some point in their life. It is accessible to most people and contains some of the best scenery, swing bridges and hot pools I have ever come across.

SUN PROTECTION SLIP-UPS With the weather heating up and the summer season on its way our thoughts turn to outdoor adventures. It’s wonderful to forget your troubles on lazy summer days but don’t forget to slip, slop, slap and wrap.

The Cancer Society of New Zealand encourages people to be SunSmart from September to April between 10 am and 4pm. This means: slip into sun protective clothing and slip into shade; slop on a broad-spectrum sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30; slap on a wide brimmed hat and wrap on some sunnies. Combining these SunSmart actions will give you better protection from harmful Ultra Violet radiation (UVR).

Follow the Cancer Society’s Top Ten tips to maximize your sun protection.

This is one screen time you should have more of!

Slop on a water resistant, broad spectrum sunscreen with a sun protective factor (SPF) of at least 30. Look for the AS/NZ 2604:2012 standard on the label and check the expiry date. Remember, sunscreen needs to be stored at a temperature below 30°c.

Covering up when you’re outdoors for a long time will help avoid painful sunburn. Sunburn can increase your risk of developing skin cancer at any time throughout your life. Wear a hat, sunnies, a collared shirt and sunscreen on exposed skin for good protection. Remember, only Salmon look good with pink skin!

If using a spray sunscreen outdoors watch out that you don’t get caught in a breeze where sunscreen blows away. If the sunscreen doesn’t land on your skin your skin will be unprotected.

Shady Business

It’s important to take cover and seek available shade when outdoors for a long time. If no natural shade (trees) or built shade (shade awnings) is available, try taking along your own shade umbrella or pop up gazebo.

The Sun Protection Alert tells you the time each day that you need to protect your skin and eyes. Click on your city or town on the map to see your Sun Protection Alert time for the day. Visit http://www.sunsmart.org.nz/sun-protection-alert.

If pulling out the sunscreen and slopping it on is the first thing you do at the beach or an outdoor event, think again. Applying sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you enter the sun allows time to develop a protective barrier. Top up at least every 2 hours.

Your Technique May Need Some Work

If you think you are using enough sunscreen but still getting caught out, you may not be using enough. Use enough to provide good coverage for all parts of your body that are exposed to the sun.

Ensure that you apply sunscreen 20 mins before going out into the sun and re-apply at least every 2 hours. Be sure to reapply after swimming or during exercise or sports where you may sweat heavily.

Leave Wrinkles to the Elephants

Your skin is like an elephant- it remembers all the UV exposure you have received throughout your life. All the sunburns, tans and time spent outdoors without sun protection adds up and increases your long-term risk of skin cancer. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling.

Brimming with Protection

Wearing a wide brimmed hat can provide shade for your face, neck, ears and scalp which are the most common areas for sunburn. Darker fabrics and fabrics with a closer weave offer better protection.

Wearing both a hat and sunglasses can reduce UV exposure to these areas.

It's a Wrap

Although the eyelid is designed to protect the eye, its skin is exceedingly thin and fragile and can be injured by UV light. Sunglasses help to reduce the UV exposure to your eyes. Choose close fitting, wraparound styles. Look for the label AS/NZS 1067:2003.

Set up a bonfire, stock up on sausages, marshmallows and skewers. Make sure you've checked fire restrictions in your area before lighting a fire. Alternative, use the BBQ.

Host a street party.

Put some fliers in mailboxes on your street asking people to bring a plate. Pick some chill music and fire up the BBQ. Have fun and get to know your neighbours.

Can't beat the beach.

This time of year is perfect to hit the beach. Bring heaps of snacks, liquids and sunscreen and make a day of it. Make sure to put in your fish and chip order to top of a great day.

Games night.

Pull out all of those games that have been in storage since last summer and get your friends and family together. Learn a new card game or play an old classic.

Bush walks.

The scenery in and around Canterbury is truly outstanding.

Find a track suitable to your skill level, buddy up and go bush.

Definitely make sure you take a camera!

Picnic.

There are heaps of awesome picnic spots around Christchurch, even Hagley Park is ideal. Fill up the chilly bin with drinks and finger foods, bring a picnic rug and ball to throw around, arvo sorted!

Local pools.

Hit up the community pools in your togs ready to swim a few laps. Make sure you've got enough sunscreen on to last the time you're standing in line for the slide. Nothing worse than beening a lobster...

Berry picking.

Icecream, you scream.

Gather up the girls and hit the supermarket for all things sweet. Fill your baskets with lollies, chocolate, biscuits, sauces, and icecream. Set up a self serve icecream bar and enjoy.

Do a quick Google of nearby berry picking farms, take a few containers and get picking. One for the container, one for yourself, you know the drill.

Watersports.

Whether its body surfing, boogie boarding, surfing, jet boating or water skiing, just get amongst it. You might develop a new hobby.

also brought along some wines from his collection to add to the mix. A birthday amongst the group caused for chocolate cake too. With all of this, we had a great night tasting wines, beers and cakes to close up the Wine Appreciation Club for another year. Our President for next year was also present to learn the ropes of it, ready for a strong year next year.

Biddy Chaffey is first on everyone’s list, if you’ve locked lips with Biddy, by an angel you’ve been kissed.

Her real name is Bridget but she prefers her nickname the most, maybe that’s why she shags people with names like Beater, Lizard and Post.

Flora Brons, she sometimes lives there, when she’s not up north being a wife. With her vegetable garden and neck scarves, she’s well ready for married life.

She swears she’s there to watch her cousins, but they’re from Taihape so I suppose that as well as the Centennial Ave boys, she’s probably shagged the Stratton bros.

Tuesday Serves Four

Healthy Burgers and Chips

Ingredients:

750g chicken, lamb or beef

750g lean/premium mince

4 wholemeal pita pockets or wholemeal wraps

4 Wholemeal burger buns/ bread rolls

Lettuce

½ Onion

Tomatoes (sliced)

Salad (Lettuce, Red onion, Tomato)

4 slices of edam cheese

Carrots (grated)

2 large sweet potatoes (kumara)

Edam cheese (grated)

Mixed herbs, Pepper and salt

Grapeseed oil

Grapeseed oil

Natural yoghurt and sweet chilli (optional) Method: 1. Cook selected meat on a pan with oil on a low heat. Once chicken is golden brown it is cooked. Once lamb/beef is brown in the middle it is cooked.

2. Once the meat is cooked use pan to heat up the pita pockets/ wrap.

You may also use the toaster to cook pita wraps. Once they are warm and starting to crisp up they are cooked.

3. P repare individual fillings.

4. Cut open the pits pockets by slicing through the middle and fill with the lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cheese, red onions and meet. Or start with the wrap open and roll up with all the ingredients.

Serves Four

Method: 1. Preheat oven to 180C on fan bake. Cut sweet potato into chips slices and microwave for 2 minutes. Spread sweet potato chips onto oven pan and lightly gaze with oil, herbs, pepper and salt. Bake for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.

2. Put mince, ½ onion diced and some oil into a bowl and mix. Roll mixed mince into four patties.

3. Cook on low heat the patties until golden brown onto and light brown in middle.

4. Prepare the lettuce, tomato, red onion and cheese.

5. Put cheese on top of the buns and toast in oven till golden. Serve the burgers with buns on top and bottom, and all the ingredient inside.

6. You may serve with low sugar tomato sauce and natural yoghurt.

Ingredients:

750g of lean/premium mince or chicken

400g can cherry tomatoes

4 wholemeal wraps

1 tbsp caster sugar

2 cans of diced natural tomatoes (no flavouring)

100ml vegetable stock

Salad (lettuce, tomato, red onion, carrot)

Dash of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce

Grated edam cheese

2 tbsp mascarpone

Grapeseed oil

Few torn basil leaves (optional)

Mixed herbs

For the dippers:

Natural yoghurt and sweet chilli (optional)

1 medium wholemeal roll, halved 1 garlic clove, halved 125g ball mozzarella cheese, shredded Method 1. Put the tomatoes, sugar, stock and sauces into a medium pan with salt and pepper.

2. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-10 mins. Stir in the mascarpone and blend to a smooth soup. Heat the grill to high and toast the wholemeal roll until golden. Rub with the garlic, season, then top with the cheese and grill.

Serves Four

Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 180C on fan bake.

2. Cut the wholemeal wraps into triangular shapes and drizzle on baking tray with oil and herbs.

3. Cook the wraps in oven for 20 minutes or until crispy and brown Cook the mince/chicken in a pan with oil until golden brown Once the meat is cooked add the cans of tomatoes and simmer till the sauce is nice and hot.

4. Place corn chips on the bottom of plate, serve the mince/chicken on top. Sprinkle some cheese and grill in oven till cheese is melted or microwave for a minute.

5. Serve with salad, natural yoghurt and some sweet chilli sauce on top.

The Rams season was once again something special. Gaining the threepeat this year really highlighted the mahi the boys put in off the field, such as Jono’s onenight-only threepeat of his own.

We won 15 out the 18 games we played.

Although we lost a few, at least we were more consistent than Matt Ral’s relationship status. In our first loss to the dark horses Linwood we played dustier than Nic Souchon on a Thursday morning.

However, this proved a handy wake up call, we all pulled our head out of our arses, and became a herd of mahi hoihos.

We slowly ticked teams off like Matt Heff and his 2017 tally, scraping through to the final like George Stratton getting a degree.

The crowd there was second only to the overly enthusiastic froth of thirsty WAGs at an after party. They had us more barred up and ready to wrestle with men than Callum Burrell after a slab of diesels.

The after party on Suva was a major highlight. We all got lit and a few become sloppier than Dom Devine’s rig. The Rams would like to thank everyone who supported us this year and we hope to see you all next year. To the WAGs who stood in the cold and pretended to care about a bunch of boofheads, you the real MVPs. We look forward to some down time that we can use to rehearse Danger Swigs and mahi walks, or whatever the next bandwagon is that we jump on.

2017 was another great season for Lincoln University Netball club. We encountered many ups and downs as all teams and sports do.

We had a disruptive start to the season as some of our premier A team players moved to a more visible platform, including Ellie Bird, Kate Lloyd and Charlotte Elley all gaining contracts with the Tactix. Furthermore, Bella James and her involvement with the Beko netball league. Courtney Miller also gained her cap for 50 games played for the LU netball club.

Once our ANZ Championship players returned and we had a full team we headed into the championship round strong.

Unfortunately after a close semi-final down to the last minute we were unable to get the win and went home 3rd place overall narrowly missing out on final yet again.

It was a season of new combinations and a chance for some younger players to get some experience and I would like to congratulate our most improved player Laura Axcell and the player of the season Kate Grant.

Throughout the season LU Netball also entered a team in the Massey Agriculture Exchange which comprised of a mix of A, B and C team players representing our University and did us proud.

After our club season was over we were privileged enough to take a side up to Auckland to compete at the New Zealand University Games which was an awesome experience for us all which included both premier A and B team players. We had a tough first pool and came 5th overall, a good effort after a long weekend with three games on the first day.

A huge congratulations to the C team who had an outstanding season winning every game that came their way, a few players even made debuts for our premier A side in the first rounds which shows the depth we have here at Lincoln University.

Finally I would like to thank all our management and support staff including Aileen Taylor, Claire Lewis, Peter Magson, Peter McInnes, Rachel Stead and Callum Brown, we couldn’t do what we do without you. Thankyou also to everyone who have supported us this season and good luck with end of exams fast approaching.
