In 1855, Reuben L. Partridge accepted a contract to build the first selfsupporting bridge in Union County. By 1866 Partridge was building bridges full-time and in 1872, he received a patent for his truss design. In his lifetime, he built more than 125 bridges, most of them in Union County and Ohio. In 1896, he designed a Victorian-style home in Marysville as a 50th wedding anniversary gift for his wife. This beautiful home, now on the National Register of Historic Places, aptly depicts the story of Union County’s prolific bridge builder.

This bridge, also known as the Axe Handle Bridge, was named in honor of Eliphas Bigelow, a nearby resident whose family founded Plain City. In 1990, the bridge underwent an extensive renovation, which included installing massive nail-laminated arches seated into new concrete foundations.
Length: 102 feet
Built: 1873
Builder: Partridge
Spans: Little Darby Creek
Historical Marker
This is the third bridge to be on the site. The first was a covered bridge, the second a steel truss bridge, and today stands a modern twolane covered bridge. This bridge is currently the longest single-span wooden bridge in Ohio.
Length: 160 feet
Built: 2006
Builder: Righter Company
Spans: Big Darby Creek
This bridge was originally located on State Route 4. In 1922, it was moved to its new location on Winget Road. In 1977, a runaround was constructed for farm equipment and other large vehicles to bypass the covered bridge. The original cost of the bridge was $1,375.
Length: 94 feet
Built: 1873
Builder: Partridge
Spans: Treacle Creek
Historical Marker

In 2006, this bridge was erected to replace the one lane Pottersburg Covered Bridge. This new bridge was built with a modified Pratt truss design at a cost of $1.6 million.
Length: 135 feet
Year: 2006
Builder: Righter Company
Spans: Big Darby Creek
This bridge was formerly the location of the North Lewisburg Road Covered Bridge. When Honda built their North American headquarters nearby, the one-lane bridge became insufficient for the increase in traffic. To save the bridge, it was moved on a trailer to a "rails to trails" project down the road. The Pottersburg bridge is now part of a 1.9-mile paved multi-purpose trail.
Length: 94 feet
Built: 1873
Builder: Partridge
Spans: Old Rail Bed
Historical Marker
This quaint bridge is Union County's smallest covered bridge. In 2008 and 2016, the bridge was rehabilitated after large machinery tried to pass through the bridge and damaged the overhead braces. Spain Creek is designated as an exceptional warmwater and coldwater habitat by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
Length: 64 feet
Built: 1883
Builder: Partridge
Spans: Spain Creek
Historical Marker

This steel Pratt truss bridge was built in 1914 to replace a covered bridge that was destroyed in the flood of 1913. Union County received special recognition for the renovation of this bridge in 1993. All the original ornamentation and decorative elements are still in place.
Length: 200 feet
Built: 1914
Builder: Central Concrete & Construction Co.
Spans: Big Darby Creek
Historical Marker
In 1881, a covered bridge was built in this location, but it was destroyed by a devastating flood in 1913. This modernday covered bridge is much different from its predecessor, in that it has two lanes and can carry all modern-day traffic loads.
Length: 125 feet
Built: 2010
Builder: Righter Company
Spans: Mill Creek

After years of dabbling in winemaking and receiving positive feedback from friends and family, Dale and Tonya decided to make it official. Playing on their love of wine and each other; they named the winery after the combination of their names and their location in Ohio. Located in Marysville, the winery has grown to feature wine, hard cider, mead, and beer made on location. Their “43040” brew is made with all locally grown ingredients and aptly named after Marysville’s zip code. Open Friday - Sunday (and Thursdays, May - September), this beautiful escape offers live music, food trucks, and fun!

The Happenstance Brewing Project features 12 beers on taps that rotate along with a seltzer with plans to add more in the future. The building features garagestyle glass doors, spacious outdoor patio, and porch swings. Greenery and live edge bar tops and tables emphasize their motto, “beer, nature, and community.”

The story of Ill Mannered begins as a group of homebrewers who combined their passion to create a one-of-a-kind brewery featuring a variety of handcrafted beers, cocktails, slushies, wine, cider and more. They brew their craft beer on a smaller scale to experiment and rotate their offerings, allowing the opportunity to try a new draft every time you stop in. Enjoy uniquely crafted beverages, food trucks, and events while catching up with friends.

This award-winning winery features wines and champagnes from estategrown chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc grapes. The Harris family began the vineyard in 1980 and opened in 1999. Located in Northern Union County, the winery is open every Saturday from noon until 5 p.m., or by appointment.
Founded in 2018 by two slightly eccentric home brewers and their wives, Rhetoric Brewing Company offers small-batch concoctions of wine, hard cider, mead, and beer.
