What You Need to Know LO QUE DEBES SABER

CLIMA La temperatura máxima llega a los 33 °C y la mínima es de 24 °C. Tiene una humedad relativa del 85 % y cuando cae la noche, el viento toma velocidad para acariciar y refrescar a los turistas. De diciembre a marzo hay bastante brisa y el clima resulta muy agradable. Usa siempre protector solar. ALTITUD Y LOCALIZACIÓN Cartagena está a 2 m sobre el nivel del mar y su localización es de 10° 26’ latitud norte, 75° 33’ longitud oeste. Ubicada en la costa norte del Caribe colombiano (al norte de Suramérica), su acceso es muy fácil, ya sea por vía aérea, terrestre o marítima.

PICO Y PLACA Para evitar la congestión del tráfico, de lunes a viernes de 7 a. m. a 7 p. m. existe Pico y Placa, una medida de restricción vehicular que opera cada día según el último dígito de la placa del automóvil. Infórmate en transitocartagena.gov.co TAXIS Aunque hay muchos en la calle que estarán pendientes de que levantes la mano, la 14

opción más segura es solicitar el servicio de taxi vía telefónica o con una aplicación para moviles. La carrera mínima es de $6.000 pesos (por ejemplo del Centro y en sentido contrario a Bocagrande); y del aeropuerto o en sentido contrario, entre $10.000 y $17.000 pesos. TRANSPORTE Existen rutas urbanas de buses, busetas y colectivos; sin embargo, lo más recomendable es que tomes taxi, alquiles un auto o solicites un servicio especializado turístico. Para disfrutar de la ciudad puedes hacer el tour en el bus rojo (citysightseeing. com.co) o rentar una bicicleta, un gran plan en horas de la tarde cuando baja el sol. SEGURIDAD Como en toda ciudad turística, debes cuidar tus objetos personales, cambiar dinero solo en casas de cambio oficiales, llevar contigo una copia del pasaporte y dejar el original en tu hotel y, cuando contrates servicios de transporte, hacerlo con una empresa reconocida y confiable. La Policía Metropolitana y la Infantería de Marina trabajan por la seguridad de ciudadanos y turistas.

POBLACIÓN Cartagena tiene una población aproximada de 1’030.149 habitantes. En total, 205 barrios forman parte de los 623 km2 que tiene la ciudad. La composición étnica de Cartagena resulta de la fusión de tres etnias: la indígena (los nativos calamarí); la blanca, de España; y la negra, traída esclavizada de África. La población hoy día es predominantemente mulata, mestiza y negra. WEATHER Average daily temperatures range between a high of 33°C and a low of 24°C, with a relative humidity of around 85%. The wind picks up around dusk (a breath of fresh air for tourists) and there’s quite a breeze from December to March, making the weather at this time of year very pleasant. ALTITUDE AND GEOGRAPHY Cartagena is located at a latitude of 10° 26’ North and a longitude of 75° 33’ East, on the northern coast of the Colombian Caribbean (in the northern part of South America). Una casa colonial frente a la Plaza de Bolívar atesora las hermosas joyas y objetos prehispánicos, pertenecientes, en su mayoría, a la cultura zenú. La colección está tan bien iluminada que dan ganas de examinar pausadamente cada pieza. This colonial house facing the Plaza de Bolívar guards glittering jewels and pre-Hispanic artifacts, most of which belonging to the ancient Zenú culture. The lighting and presentation of the exhibit will make you want to examine each piece in detail, so take your time.

Constituye una de las construcciones más sobresalientes de la época colonial, donde se condenaba a los enemigos de la Iglesia, de ahí que puedas observar en tu recorrido instrumentos de tortura, documentos y pinturas de la Inquisición. MONUMENTO A LA INDIA CATALINA

Fue inaugurado en 1886 con diez estatuas de los próceres de la Independencia, hechas de mármol. Está enmarcado por el Parque del Centenario, la Torre del Reloj, el Muelle de los Pegasos y el Centro de Convenciones; es un sitio de tertulia y encuentro para muchos cartageneros. A meeting and gathering place for many ‘cartageneros’: inaugurated in 1886 with 10 marble statues of the heroes of the Independence, it’s ringed by the Parque del Centenario, the Torre del Reloj, the Pegasos pier and the Cartagena Convention Center.

La indígena que acompañó a Pedro de Heredia en sus andanzas por el nuevo reino, y que influyó en la fundación de Cartagena al ser intermediaria entre nativos y españoles, es una de las estatuas de bronce más fotografiadas por los turistas. Catalina was an indigenous woman who accompanied Pedro de Heredia on his travels through the New Kingdom. Además de graduar a la primera promoción de primaria en 2014, Nathalie sigue dando pasos enormes con este proyecto, ya que al colegio ingresarán niños con discapacidad leve, ya sea física o mental, pues su objetivo también es ofrecer educación inclusiva. Por medio de la recolección de fondos en Europa y, por supuesto, en Colombia, Lure Media le brinda su respaldo a La Vecina y crea mayor conciencia entre visitantes y el exterior acerca de la magnífica labor que realiza de la Fundación en beneficio de la niñez.
