• My husband is working from home and he’s still late. • Every woman working from home is doing so on a macbook air on the couch, cup of tea. Every man is at a 3-monitor setup with the loudest keyboard he could find. • My Dad and I are sharing the dining room table working from home today. He's an aerospace engineer on a conference call ordering fuselage prototypes and I'm drawing a duck. • Pro-tip for couples suddenly working from home together: Get yourselves an imaginary coworker to blame things on. In our apartment, Karen keeps leaving her dirty water cups all over the place and we really don't know what to do about her. • My wife, a lawyer, is working from home. I believe this 'technically' makes the pugs paralegals. • Me on a conference call: *Mute mic*: “Hey kids! Everyone else’s children are bringing them cups of tea whilst they’re in meetings!!” *Unmute mic* 16 yr old shouts: “Hey mum, here is your glass of wine." • My child while I'm doing chores:........... My child while I'm on a conference call: DADDDDYYYYY!!!!!! DADDDDDYYYY!!!!!!..... Hi! The Case Of The Misplaced Murderer Part II, A Dark Horse

he three friends, Madeleine Arnold, Angus McAllister and John Wilson Murray, spent a pleasant evening in Ms. Maddie’s cozy home. The dinner of boiled Partridge, croquettes of rice, seasonal vegetables and escalloped tomatoes followed by Almond pudding was evidence of the hostess’ cookery skills. The two men, eloquent in their praise, were rewarded by a rare treat, a digestif of home-made White Currant Cordial. Cordials in hand and seated before the fireplace, the conversation turned to John’s work as a detective. He amused his hostess by recounting how he’d nabbed a felonious church organist, who’d turned out to be a fraudster wanted across North America. The couple marvelled at his description of the advances recently made in the new field of forensics. Maddie was particularly interested in the finer details of how information was obtained through autopsies. Angus, uncomfortable with this line of conversation, muttered, “John, do you not think this topic is too grisly for the ears of a lady?” “Nae, Angus, “I find your lady asks intelligent questions. Truly, she’s as forthright and unsqueamish as my own dear Mary.” The men left at 9 p.m, promising to meet Madeleine at the cafe for breakfast the next morning. Deep in their own thoughts, they walked in silence the short distance to Angus’ tidy cottage by the creek. Before retiring, the men sat on the front porch, sharing old stories and enjoying a whiskey nightcap. Angus, suspicious of his friend’s unexpected arrival in Lumby Village, haltingly asked, “ya know, I’m happy to see you, John, but ye came without warning. I canna help but feel that you might be avoiding something back in Toronto. Aye?” “Angus, I’m just worn out. The tabloids have made me out to be some sort of “Sherlock Holmes,” and I canna get a moments peace in Toronto. Every time

Maddie’s an early riser, she’ll expect us at the cafe by 7.” The cafe served a real working man breakfast: bacon, eggs, home fries, plain bread with tea or coffee. Maddie loved breakfast. Coffee was a particular treat, something she never made at home. “I never seem to get the grind just right,” she offered in explanation. While slowly savouring her third coffee, an uproar from outside shattered the moment. Grabbing the cup, she ran out with the men to discover a most startling sight.

As we advance further into spring one of the most wonderful occurrences is the return of the many varieties of birds that we enjoy in our area. I saw my first Humming bird a few days ago and have put up my Humming Bird feeders, the Grouse Beaks are busy chowing down on the sunflower seed and Stellar Jays are busy making an awful squawking noise, The Robins are back in full force and the males are busy battling for female attention, I woke the other morning to the sound of something pounding on a window and when I got over to it the male Robin flew away. It had found its reflection in the window and was busy attacking it. All fine and good except for the mess it was making on my patio furniture which I cleaned and moved. Later that morning my husband showed my vehicle which had also been the subject of the same assault. Around the mirrors and windows were obvious signs of bird attack and tons of bird crap. I don’t know if the guy thinks he’s winning or defending his nesting ground by attacking his reflection with such determination but I am no longer finding it funny. I guess this is where the phrase Bird Brained must come from. Robins are one of the most determined of nesters and will build in some of the craziest places. If it is building in a spot that is bad for its offspring or your safety (as they do tend to attack when disturbed) you have to be very determined to continually destroy the nest to convince it to move elsewhere. I have had them try to build in the curtains of my gazebo and hanging baskets by the door, cute but messy! Nights are now above zero, at least in my area, and the plants in the greenhouse are coming along. I can’t remember a spring that has been as cold as this in a very long time and many areas are still freezing at night. Thank you to all who have placed your plant orders so early, the urge to get out in the garden is strong! Because of the cooler nights many of our plant pests have not appeared but one should keep a close

This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc. l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years,you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer: The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.
Colors, Colors, Wonderful Colors: I Love Color! So, most of the snow in my yard is gone now (hooray, This morning I went out in my backyard in my pj's finally) all except for a small piece that I can just walk (hey it was early and no one was around) to take out around now and this should be gone in a couple of days. some egg shells to the compost, this was exciting to me as I haven't been able to get to my compost all winter, and even though the temperature was only at zero, I stood out there and let the sun warm my face. Ah Yes, Colors, Colors, Wonderful Colors, It is so great to see such beautiful colors again. During this COVID 19 where everyone has to stay home, we are getting so much done around the house that we didn't have time for before, and all though I always loved being in my yard before, I find I am enjoying it and appreciating it even more now then I ever did. Who knew that being forced to stay home would make me be more appreciative to the things that were that were always there in front of me.
