Guns To the Editor, Interesting to note, as I heard a Lawful and legal Gun Owner state, “..all those “ANTI-GUN” NUTS....WHO CLAIM IT IS SO EASY TO PURCHASE A GUN ARE NOW FINDING OUT JUST HOW HARD IT REALLY IS TO BUY A GUN.!!

First you need a “PAL”, and now its taking months, along with a waiting list, before you can acquire one so you can purchase a fire arm legally.

If you do not already have a “Possession and Acquisition License”, then you are probably are out of luck

as facilities that offer the required training, are now closing because of the present Pandemic.

Local Gun shops are probably selling more guns to legal firearms owners, in the last few weeks, then they had during the entire weeks of Fall.

Legislation to ban and remove guns from legal, law abiding gun owners, has got to stop.

Now with the threat of this Pandemic, the question will be just how early, and what causes become evident, until we see removal of some of our most treasured Charter rights.

God Made Rainy Days So Gardeners Could Get The Housework Done!!

Samantha Nason BS Ranch & Greenhouses I watch everyday in utter horror and fascination with the on going world wide pandemic. Life as we know it will change. We are fortunate that the powers that be will make it as livable as possible. We are fortunate to have a population that is willing and able to ensure that the most favourable outcome will be obtained by practicing social distancing and following the practices that will ensure everyones safety and well being. With my first trip into Lumby in over a week I was happy to observe that people were indeed prac-

Everything is growing well in the greenhouse. I am a little unhappy with some chilly weather that we’ve had earlier this week but that is spring and is probably better for the snow pack not all being melted too rapidly. I have given my first taste of fertilizer to plants that have developed their second set of true leaves and now have fans going to strengthen the plants by causing them to develop more cells In their stems. This is a mild breeze but is crucial to healthy plant development. If you will be growing lettuce, kale and spinach you can start these in your house now to give you a jump start when you are ready to plant the seedlings into your garden. These are cool weather plants and can be some of the first things that will be able to go out into the garden and provide you with your own tasty fruits of your labor. If you are going to grow Cantaloupe you should start them now as they will benefit by an early start and plenty of sunshine. By the end of the second week of April you can start your squash, cucumber and watermelon.

Fortunately it is a little too cold and early in the season for most pests but do keep a spray bottle of soapy water on hand for when they do rear their nasty heads as they are sure to do. Nothing like a susceptible new grown plant for them to feast on. My bees are out and are finding a few plants and trees that are available however I am still ensuring that they have adequate feed.

Next week my article will be short but I will be adding a list of plants that I will have available by the end of April.

Lock Down Lessons It can be difficult when life takes an abrupt turn and structure is changed, routine is upended and uncertainty is suddenly a daily companion. But perhaps there are some valuable lessons that can be learned from “living in lock-down”. The website called Ladies Pass It On recently posted some interesting points to ponder while we negotiate our days in the pandemic.

• Maybe we don’t need as much as we have come to believe and a little really can go a long way.

• We are kinder than we thought and when push comes to shove, most of us care and will share.

When it comes to the immune system, your best defence is to keep healthy through good nutrition, exercise and a healthy mind. During this time of Covid-19 many are scrambling to buy different vitamins and or natural supplemental products to hopefully stave off this virus. There are many studies that support these supplemental products and many that discredit them when it comes to their benefits with certain things. It all comes down to, does it work for you? I have had many clients that have different ailments and have had great success, despite studies or research that say they have minimal benefit about different supplements or natural products they are taking. However, it is good to research the product you are thinking of supplementing with, look for double blind or large population studies, a reputable body that has distinct facts and long-term use of the product. For example, Vitamin C, Echinacea, Reishi mushroom, Zinc, Vitamin D, Oil of Oregano, to name a few, all have validity to them. There are many products that are marketed very well and are convincing but simply don’t work, that take your money and in some cases cost lives.

It is best to use these products after discussing with your health practitioner(s). There are also lots of other methods not even mentioned here that have been used for hundreds of years and still remain in practice today, that certain cultures stand by. It is important to note what might work for one person may not work for another and that could be an answer to why there are so many methods today. Remember most of these measures are not intended as cures but rather used as preventative measures or as aids to help you get through your ailment easier and or faster.

Another key to this, is the brain. If you believe something is working it probably will. Like I mentioned last week the brain is powerful not only in our thoughts but in how it affects our body’s chemical reactions. The brain seems to have a direct effect on stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol. These

This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc. l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years,you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery.

Photography is my passion. Disclaimer: The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

Goals Part 2: So last week I wrote about different goals that I had made for my self.

So here is some of them that I have been doing. (not necessarily in the order they are written) If you look at this week’s picture you will see that I have a Monochrome ( Black & White) photo that I have added color to.

This is something new for me, I have never tried this technique before (so bear with me while I try to perfect it), this is always something I have wanted to try for quite some time.

So far working with some of my pictures to do this new thing, I have found that some of them turn out great, and the others not so good, but this is okay as it is new to me and a good learning experience.

I told you that I would try to do some new art, well even though I have done Zentangle before, this time I did it differently.

Yup, I went online with my instructor and ten other people from as far away as Anchorage Alaska.

There also was people from Texas, Australia, California, and of course Lumby. We st did our class online using Zoom. I had never heard of Zoom Video Conference before, it worked pretty good if you have a good broadband mine cut out once,

but brought me back in after a second or 2. I am thinking this will be a good way to talk to my friends and family using Zoom or Skype at least i will be able to see them not just talk to them on the phone or by email.

Yup I have been keeping up with my walking, and taking 4 - 15 or more pictures a day, even if they are indoors. The hill is still a slight issue, I still run out of breath but not as bad.

I am still waiting to get into my yard, so no yard work yet.

Nope I haven’t played with the Wii games yet, or caught up with my Netflix and Crave shows, but there’s always lot’s of time for that.

We got the dining room painted, and cleaned out some of the cupboards (it is amazing the things you find that you have’ t seen for awhile, or even remembering having them) So how about you? Have you been working on trying out new things? Did you and or your kids print out the heart template from the Lumby Valley Times that Andrew so thoughtfully had put in the paper? (thank you Andrew it was fun) Have you caught up on different things that you didn’t have time for , MLA before?

Monashee Toastmasters Holds On-Line Meeting

Monashee Toastmasters in Lumby held the first on-line meeting in this area on Tuesday, 24 March as a replacement of our regular face to face meetings caused by the Covid19 virus. The theme of the meeting was, appropriately Changes in Our Lives. President Louise Wilcox and VP-Education Marena Legare set up the meeting and ensured all the members and some guests would be able to participate. It was a great success and our members are so pleased to be learning a new skill. The system we used was Zoom.

The highlight of the meeting was a Pathways Research and Presentation project by Julie Richardson, “Is it ready for the Pot?” In which she told us a lot of information about pullets, laying hens and how to know when they had laid their last egg. It was an entertaining as well as informative presentation.

RDNO Implementing Social Distancing Measures at Diversion and Disposal Facilities

The RDNO’s Diversion and Disposal Facilities (DDFs) continue to be open to serve the residents and businesses of the region during the current Covid-19 pandemic. These facilities are seeing a significant increase in customer traffic due to spring cleaning and yard maintenance.

The RDNO has asked customers to consider whether a visit to a DDF is truly necessary at this time and to abide by the orders of the Provincial Health Officer during their visit, particularly as it relates to social distancing. Unfortunately, many customers are not abiding by these requests and as a result are placing landfill staff and other customers at risk.

The RDNO will be enforcing the social distancing directive of the Provincial Health Officer at all facilities effective Friday, March 26th. What does this mean?

• The number of customers permitted onsite at any given time will be limited and any customers not following the social distancing order to

stay 2 m apart from other customers may be asked to leave the facility or may be issued a bylaw violation ticket • Customers can expect a significant increase in line ups and wait times at all facilities, wait times of up to 60 minutes should be expected during peak times • Customers will be expected to abide by the direction of DDF staff while onsite Residents are strongly encouraged to utilize the curbside garbage collection service provided to residents in most RDNO member municipalities. Please contact your local municipality if you have any questions regarding curbside garbage collection.

As long as DDF customers are patient and follow the directive of the Provincial Health Officer, RDNO DDFs will continue to provide service to all customers, however if customers fail to abide by these directives, the RDNO may consider further limiting access to the facilities and the services provided including closure to the public.

Real Estate During COVID-19

Ashley Prenioslo, Coldwell Banker 4 Seasons Real Estate I have taken some time to gather information and my opinion on the current state of the real estate market.

Real Estate Facts: 1. British Columbia has deemed Real Estate Services as essential 2. Realtor’s can & will sell homes with minimal face to face interaction (& can maintain the 6 ft rule with any interactions) 3. Technology is pretty cool & allows us to write offers, provide full virtual tours/showings, FaceTime & complete a deal electronically 4. Appraiser's, home inspectors & banks have all made

required & necessary changes to continue to provide their services needed.

5. Inventory is low & interest rates are at a record low.

6. People need housing & it is my job to make sure real estate trading is done in a safe environment.

My two cents is this; The real estate market in the North Okanagan may see a slight dip for a bit before it rebounds back just as strong as it was before Covid-19 hit. At this time we do not have the inventory of housing needed for buyers & it continues to be a sellers market. The record low interest rates & reduced stress test released also support a strong market. Our local real estate board president released a statement earlier this month; “The residential

market continues to recover from the slow start experienced last year,” says OMREB President Michael Loewen, adding that “it will be interesting to see if factors such as recent interest rate changes, uncertainties of the U.S. elections and the impact of the coronavirus on the economy will have much effect on the local market, if at all.”
