Last weekend, Saturday Feb 29 and Sunday Mar 1, 2020, the Lumby Theatre Group was thrilled to perform their presentation of Rumpelstiltskin at the OAP Hall in Lumby. The group has been preparing for their presentation since Sept of 2019, and the cast and crew did a marvelous job.

They are looking forward presenting more productions in the future, for the people of Lumby to enjoy.

Lumby’s Youngest Dancers Take Center Stage 30 of Lumby’s youngsters took to the stage on March 2 for the Toes and Tutus 3rd annual dance recital. Ranging in age from 2 to 10, dancers performed a number of

Clean up will be huge and until almost all the snow is gone I will leave it. I have had to tie back sections of my hedge with hopes that it will grow back straighter and my poor lilac bushes, I don’t know what I’ll have to do to fix that damage but I am waiting until snow lets go of the limbs that were dragged down and buried in snow before I tackle that. I can see a lot of broken sections but until things start to green up it will be too difficult to try and trim it into any shape. In the greenhouse however things are well underway. If you think you have been financially compromised, an alert can also be put on your credit report by contacting Equifax Canada (http://www.equifax.ca) or TransUnion Canada (http://www.transunion.ca).

Fraudsters use many different tactics to get the elderly to fall victim to schemes. In Canada, thousands of seniors fall victim to scams every single year. With some education and following simple prevention tips, you can secure your finances and peace of mind.

Gallbladder and Fat

Staying on the theme of fats, what are the effects on the gallbladder? Sometimes we do very harmful things to our body for vanity or wanting the perfect body.

One of those things would be taking out a macronutrient from your diet. Remember a macronutrient is a big nutrient and micronutrients are small nutrients. They are both required to carry out essential tasks in our bodies. To recap macronutrients are: Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins and Fiber as a subgroup and they are all required for different important functions in our bodies. In general, carbohydrates feed our brains (without glucose the brain cannot function) and fats are involved in many hormonal functions along with proteins which are also the building blocks in our bodies; RNA, DNA. When we deprive our bodies of any 1 macronutrient for any length of time it puts a great deal of stress on our body. This is because it has to act quickly to adapt to make sure all the areas, functions, processes and chemical reaction that usually are taken care of through the missing macronutrient, are being met. It is almost like a generator when the power goes out in your house, it has a backup system and it is limited to how much it

Today thank goodness, a no fat diet is not as popular of a FAD as it was in the 1980’s. But in this no fat diet many people suffered the consequences especially when it came to their gallbladders. We have come to believe the gallbladder is a useless organ that we don’t really need and can live without it. This is true but ask someone who has had a severe gallbladder attack, I am sure this is not something you would want to experience.

Everything we have in our body has a purpose, even if we can live without it. First of all, there is a very important connection with the gallbladder and hormonal balance, especially with women. Your gallbladders job is to squeeze bile out into your small intestine to be processed. Bile contains mostly water, then cholesterol, bile salts and hormones. Cholesterol and hormones as estrogen and its harmful metabolites, are important to be squeezed out and processed. The gallbladder needs to do its job by getting a steady and healthy amount of fats. When this doesn’t happen, you get to start your no fat diet journey with sluggishness or immense pain as bile begins to sit around for a long time getting very concentrated with the cholesterol that forms into gallstones. When it comes to the point of removal you get to endure such things as weight gain, estrogen dominance and low thyroid function...just to mention a few.

As you can see the body’s response isn’t very pleasant as it tries to adjust for this organ’s very important job.

So, make sure to eat your fats, but make sure they are healthy ones especially if you are prone to gallbladder

It’s Almost There Hooray!

Well I looked out my back door today, and what did I see, parts of my backyard, I could even see my swing in the distance.

Great! the snow is starting to melt, and now instead of 4 or 5 small mountains there is only two small hills in my backyard. So it looks like my days of renting out the backyard for the skiers and snowboarders is now over.

They clinched the last berth to the tournament after a Wildcard Game in Merritt by defeating Hope Secondary. The team has an uphill battle as they are going into the tournament ranked 16th, which means for their first game they will go up against the top team, Credo Christian. Coach Currie and Mulholland are proud of the girls for all the progress they have made this year and just want the team to continue to play with intensity and pride this tournament. ABC’s 4G LTE Internet Service to Cherryville Completed

Rigging LTE systems for the future

ABC Communications (www.abccommunications.com), one of British Columbia’s largest privately held internet service providers, recently completed a project deploying fixed 4G LTE Internet services to Cherryville. The projects led by Falko Kadenbach, vice president of ABC Communications, were made possible with the support of the Province of British Columbia and ABC Communications.

The project was started in the summer of 2019 and was completed in the fall of 2019, providing network improvements to a large part of Cherryville.

The project criteria set by the provincial government was to supply 50 Mbps services to these communities.

ABC Communications is committed to supply up to 50 Mbps services as part of its project scope. ABC expects that these LTE systems will be upgradable into the future through software feature releases allowing for even faster services in the future.

Kadenbach added, “Once we complete projects like these and commission the systems with 50 Mbps service packages. It’s a real jump for the regions and we expect that the residents will be very happy with the new services. Our fixed wireless services differ from other terrestrial service because they are built to deliver more dedicated services to the user. These services paired with our Voice and TV solution provide our customers a total package.”

In December of 2020, ABC was successful in their application to bring their Lumby network up to the 50 Mbps speeds. Kadenbach adds that, “this project will begin taking shape in March and will be completed by this time next year if not earlier”.

Bantam Stars Bantam Lumby Stars sponsored by Bannister GM faced off on Saturday night in semi final action against Vernon 1 (Murray) in Salmon Arm. Vernon got on the score board in the first period and then no scoring for the second. The stars scored 2 quick goals back to back in the third to take the lead. Kolby English sniped the first goal from Noah Rannelli.

Grady Krause chipped in the next goal from Jace Catt. Vernon came back with a power play goal to tie the game at 2-2.

Overtime was next for 5 minutes with 4 on 4 and Vernon was able to put one in the net with 54 seconds left to win 3-2 and advance to the finals. The bantam stars players had a great season Jaida Sauvie, Kiel Hayward, Madison Blazek, Colton Young, Raye Agema, Noah Rannelli, Tori Maltman, Teagan Schober, Riley Dewhirst, Jace Catt, Grady Krause, Kolby English, Jenna Maltman and our outstanding goaltender all year long James Wraight.

Lumby Midget Stars The Lumby Midget Stars sponsored by Bannister Chev Olds had a busy playoff week where on Wednesday they faced Salmon Arm 2. The Stars and Salmon Arm Squad played a even match until 3:45 of the first period when Tye Krause and Linden Catt combined to have Krause find the back of the net to make it 1-0 Stars to end the 1st period. The second period had only one goal when D man Peter Romailler rushed and then found Zachary Young who make it 2-0. The third period the Stars got 4 unanswered goals starting with Captain Tage Kineshanko chipping it ahead and put himself on a breakaway making no mistake to make it 3-0 at 13:31. Followed by Romailler rushing from end to end to make it 4-0. Ryder Quibell added the 5th goal unassisted and then Asst.

Captain Conner Seehaver finished the scoring for the night rushing past the defence to make it a 6-0 win.

Saturday the Stars hosted the North Okanagan Knights squad from Armstrong in the last playoff round robin game. Tage Kineshanko opened the scoring off a point shot from a slide pass from Romailler to be the only scoring of the 1st. Young made it 2-0 half way thought the second period assists to Quibell and Jordyn Morris. Then 2 minutes later the Stars made it 3-0 when Catt found Kaleb Pachal who got a Beauty goal. The third period provided some excitement as the Knights got 2 quick goals to make it 3-2 for the stars before Kineshanko got his second of the day from long time team mate and fellow captain Conner Seehaver to make it 4-2 and then Catt got a tic tac toe pass from Emma Roine and Young to make it a 5-2 final and gave the Stars a spot in the semi final

Sunday at home once again against the Knights who used some wins to secure 4th and a chance to face the stars again in hopes of an upset.

The Stars last home game of the Season and the last game at the Pat Duke for Veterans Captain Tage Kineshanko, Asst Captain Conner Seehaver, Noah Clarke and Matthew Yaremcio didn’t disappoint. The game started with the 4 long time Star Teammates on the ice. How fitting it was that at 12:55 Seehaver scored the first goal of the game on a beautiful pass from Kineshanko to set the tone that the Stars came to work hard and earn a spot in the final. Just over a minute later Krause got his first of the game from Pachal to make it 2-0. Kineshanko found Quibell on a beautiful pass in which Quibell made no mistake finding the back of the net to make it 3-0. Noah Clarke got a beautiful unassisted goal after hard work to go ahead 3-0. . The second period then got a goal from Catt assisted by line mate Krause to go ahead 5-0. The second period finished when Kineshanko then rushed from end to end to breakaway and make no mistake beating the goalie to make it 6-0 to end the second. The third period the Knights got 2 quick goals to make it 6-2 before Seehaver and Catt combined to get Seehaver to make it 7-2 . The knights added another goal before Krause and Quibell to make the final 8-3 before a packed cheering house of hockey fans and families as the Star acknowledged the home town fans and supporters before leaving the ice.

The Stars travel to Salmon Arm Tuesday in pursuit of the Champtionship Banner in the champtionship game.

Big Al as most new him saw filer, gold and silver enthusiast and devoted husband and father.

Alan’s perseverance and positive attitude didn’t end at his death.

Alan was born August 1st, 1954 in Coldwater, Ohio. On August 6th, 1977 he married his loving wife Jean (nee Huwer) in Lumby, BC at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together Alan and Jean worked hard on the pig farm. Alan worked at the Lumby Weyerhauser mill while raising their four children, later becoming foster parents.

Alan never had too much luck in life with health which brought him a lot of pain and suffering.

Despite all his hardships, Alan was always kind and put others before himself. He had a strong faith which gave him a gentle heart. Alan loved Internationals, old Harleys and long road trips. He was never one to do the same things as everyone else and couldn’t help but buck the system and teach his kids his ways.

He loved his ‘Kool Bus’ and his biggest pride and achievement were his children: Matthew, husband of Lindsay (nee Kraft) with their three children Jackson, Colter and Shiloh; his second son Lucas and partner Melissa Shirley; and only daughter Angie, wife of Dane Storey, and their three daughters Malia, Raiella and Amaralis; as well as third son Gregor, husband of Amanda (nee Neal) and their children Laynee, Hudson, and Grayson.

Alan was also a father to many other children in need who he welcomed into his home. Because of Alan, Cody and Kyle Robertson, and Katalina and Travis Cotton are now a permanent part of our family.

Alan passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on the morning of Friday, February 28, 2020. Funeral arrangements have been made.

A prayer service with visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 5:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lumby, BC. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lumby, BC. Reception to follow burial at the Lumby Community Hall at 1:30 PM.
