Gaming Grants Help Keep Students In Extracurricular Activities Kids in B.C. will benefit from participation in a wide range of school activities thanks to Community Gaming Grants funding that is going to more than 1,300 school advisory councils. “We’ve been through so much over these past couple of years, and parents have been champions in our schools, working hard to keep kids connected with safe and rewarding extracurricular activities,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Activities like these provide tremendous benefits for children’s health and well-being, and they help keep students active and engaged in learning.” In total, nearly $11 million in Community Gaming Grants is supporting parent advisory councils (PACs) and district parent advisory councils (DPACs) in the 2021-22 school year. Schools in British Columbia receive funding each year through PACs and DPACs for activities that benefit students’ social, cultural and physical health. “Extracurricular activities are so important for students so they can connect with their friends and maintain their physical, social and mental health,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education. “Through Community Gaming Grants, PACs and DPACs across the province provide a wide range of extracurricular activities for students, allowing them to build new friendships, develop life skills and share more experiences together.” Schools offer many extracurricular experiences for K-12 students, including sports and playground activities, drama, writing and music programs, and graduation ceremonies with support from Community Gaming Grant funding. PAC groups use the funds to put on music, dance and theatre performances, purchase computers for extracurricular activities such as robotics, yearbook and photography clubs, and holding social gatherings such as movie nights. “The ongoing pandemic has severely limited the ability of parent advisory councils to raise funds in support of numerous school programs,” said Andrea Sinclair, president, BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils. “Parents are grateful that Community Gaming Grants will be distributed to PACs throughout the province, thereby ensuring that the students' experience at their school will continue to be enhanced while reducing the burden on families.”
The Community Gaming Grants program has put British Columbian’s health and safety first by requiring that all grant funding complies with the provincial health officer’s orders, while continuing to provide flexibility for those organizations whose programs and services have been affected by the pandemic.

Christmas Crack Recipe
It is a type of candy made with saltine crackers coated in toffee and topped with chocolate. It is one of the easiest methods of making candy because you don’t need a candy thermometer or exact measurements. You just need to cook the toffee long enough for it to

set. Please note that the toffee is not a hard toffee. It’s firm but when you bite into it, it’s got a soft-sugary texture to it. 1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a large baking sheet with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Spread the saltine crackers out in a single layer and fold up the edges of the foil to box in the crackers. Set aside. 2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat on the stove top. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it continue to boil for exactly 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3. Quickly pour over the crackers and spread to cover evenly. 4. Bake for 5 minutes (minimum) in the oven or until bubbling. The crackers will expand slightly and shift around a little. 5. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let stand for 1-2 minutes until about half of the chocolate chips
look shiny 6. Once the chocolate begins to look shiny, it is soft enough to start spreading over the toffee. 7. Top with any additional toppings if desired and place in the refrigerator for about 2 hours for the candy to harden. 8. Once it has set, peel away the foil. Break the candy by hand or use a sharp knife to cut into pieces. You can store the cracker candy in an airtight container for up to a week refrigerated. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months.

This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc. l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years,you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer: The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.
It's Cold Outside, all the Crawlers are coming inside So the other day, I went into the bathroom and there was this huge spider on my floor. I mean a big spider Yuck! This one was not as big as they can grow, which is about 3 cm, but still big enough for me! So of course I took his picture. This is a Wolf Spider, in different articles I have written about other types of Spiders, and with over 40,000-45,000 species of Spiders in the world I was bound to write about the Wolf Spider at some point. They are rated # 6 on the list of the 9 deadliest spiders (Funnel Web Spiders from Australia are # 1) A Wolf Spider will not bite a human unless it feels threatened their venom will hurt you and could cause some swelling, and if you are allergic to Spider Bites ( like Tim is,the bites he gets from spider bites swell up a lot on him making them look like a small goiter,) you might feel dizzy, nauseated and have a faster heart rate. and be quite itchy around the bite. The bite can feel like a Bee sting Wolf Spiders get their name as they will chase and then pounce on their prey just like a Wolf would do. Unlike other Spiders, most of the Wolf Spiders do not weave a web, they are classified as "ground dwell-

ers" instead. Wolf Spiders are native to Canada and very abundant here in BC. And boy, are Wolf Spiders ever fast. There are approximately 125 species of the Wolf Spider in North America, and possibly about 50 species in Europe. A female Wolf Spider will carry her eggs in a sac that is attached to her producing organs which looks like she could be dragging a huge ball around. When the eggs are hatched the spiderlings will be riding on the mother's back for a few days. Awhile back someone told me to put Chestnuts in the corners and that would help to keep the Wolf Spiders out, I didn't find that helped so I got rid of the Chestnuts, and then after I don't have the chestnuts anymore someone told me that I have to crush the chestnuts then put them in the corners. Now I need to find more chestnuts to see if that will work. The Spiders are not the only ones crawling into my house at this time, remember sometime ago I wrote about the ugly stink bugs, well I don't know how many I have got rid of in the last month or so. The other day I was on my computer and there was one walking across my computer desk. So Gross! I took out a kleenex and squished that ugly bug. I have been finding them hanging out on my door frame, in my kitchen, in the bathroom, basically every room. It just seems that we will probably never be without

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year from all of us at the Monashee Arts Council and Village Gallery Don’t Miss out on your Christmas shopping needs! As the world continues to reside in the uncertainty brought about by the events of the last 2 years, but that hasn’t stopped the Monashee Arts Council from bringing together over 25 local artists and crafters of our community with the Christmas Store at the Village Gallery. The Christmas store is located at the Village Gallery at 1975 Vernon Street (hwy 6) and will run November 15th to December 24th (Extended to January 29th) , Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. We ask that you do not shop if you are feeling unwell, and please wear a mask while in the gallery and use the hand sanitizer that has been provided. Let’s all do our part to ensure this is an enjoyable Holiday season!

For anyone who found it just too hectic to shop or before Christmas or perhaps you had your eye on something you really want, fear not! The Village Gallery will continue to show a wonderful array of treasures and surprises until the end of January!
Call for Artists – “Macro – unusual ways of seeing” A new year, a new perspective. Our first new show of the New Year in Febuary is "Macro - unusual ways of seeing". Often found in photography Macro has come to mean a close up or enlarged shot of a subject, but macro can also be large scale or the Big picture. What is your unusual perspective that you express through your art? Micro subject, mini size or something vast being represented, all are welcome to this new show. All Mediums are welcome! So if you have a piece of artwork that you would like to share in the show, please come into the Monashee Art Gallery on or before January 31st/ 2022 and fill out the applicable forms. Memberships may be renewed/obtained at time of delivery. MAC will need the following information for each piece of work: Title, Medium, Size, Price (if selling), Description (how, why, when or where), Name of Artist.
