Cold Snap Every year we seem to get that one week of nasty cold weather and I guess this year will be no exception to the rule as you all have experienced this week.

Not the worst we’ve ever received but bad enough.

I’ve been talking to several members of my family who live in the Edmonton area and also in Regina and we really have it made. Edmonton’s temperature on Sunday morning was minus 41 and that was with no wind chill which is rare. The one good thing that I can think of with our modest (in comparison to other areas) cold weather is that we shouldn’t get any snow.

The ground hog supposedly didn’t see its shadow, so that is good. I think that it is time for Lumby to get its own ground hog,I would be very happy to raise the little critter with a little direction. Obviously winter isn’t over yet. As you can well see by my remarks since the onset of winter I’m not the biggest fan of the season. I do keep a room with lights and plants which are blooming nicely (I hope to have some nice bouquets at the Monashee coop for Valentines Day) and I can work in my greenhouse planting but I still have to dress like the Michelin Tire Man to get there. The best thing I can say is that we have had a nice spatter of sunny days which we so badly need and so rarely get in the interior. All in all, we still for Canada the true north strong and free have it made in our area of British Columbia.

I hope everyone is staying safe and well. This last leg of this pandemic will be more trying to our patience than ever, we have all had enough and are weary, lonely and want to feel safe. Support for Pain

It is estimated that one in five British Columbians live with chronic pain. Pain can be a daily unwanted companion brought on as a result of surgery, injury, illness and sometimes even from an unidentifiable cause. If you or someone you know is living with persistent pain, then you realize that it is complex and difficult. Getting pain under control may require a multitude of things such as physical therapy, counselling and in some cases, medications.

People living with pain can also be struggling with immense loss; of perhaps their work, confidence, mobility and simple enjoyment. It comes as no surprise that they are, in turn, more likely to fight depression.

It takes a lot of resiliency to live with chronic pain and living with someone experiencing this can be equally as difficult.

It is important to know that you are not alone in coping with pain or caring for someone that is. Being connected to others that understand can make the world of difference. Pain BC is a collaborative non-profit organization consisting of people living with chronic pain, industry leaders and health care providers. They strive to provide tools, support, community connections and education for people grappling with ongoing pain and for those close to them.

A reminder about the changes to donation times and locations: The building we were using as a donation drop off on Vernon Street has sold. This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc. l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years,you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer: The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

Wow What a Game Did you watch the SuperBowl this past Sunday?

We did.

Usually for this day, the Legion would have the game on the big screen, and have a Chili cook off, but of course this year was very different for all us.

When at the Legion we don't usually sit and watch the whole game, we are usually socializing with other people, having the chili judged, etc.

Here's what happened this year at home: It was just the two of us.

We had picked up our stuff earlier in the week. Before the game started we were planning our snacks.

We made up some chicken wings in our new Ninja Foodie compact, (yum, they are tasting better all the time) it comes with a great easy recipe for Chicken Wings which we change ever so slightly.

So, we had Chicken wings, slices of Carrots, and Celery. We also had Nacho Bites from Superstore, if you haven't tried these yet, you really should they are awesome. Then we had Beef & Cheese Taquitos. Tim made me a virgin Caesar, and made his with Vodka. We pulled out our TV trays, sat down with our snacks (which was also our dinner earlier than usual) and watched the game. It was a good game! We are not usually the people that will sit down and watch a whole football game, as that is not what we do, but this year was of course different.

Half Time came, wow what a showman. We had never heard of "The Weekend" before, but he had a

good voice.

It turned out to be a good Sunday, making great snacks together, watching a whole game of Football, just the two of us, not worrying about anything, it was a great day.

Even Though we had fun with just the two of us, we did miss seeing everyone at the Legion, watching the game and tasting the great Chili that everyone would bring. Maybe Next Year!

Preheat oven to • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Maple Bacon Flavor 350°F/180°C. Lightly • 3-4 tbsp/45-60 mL whole milk grease doughnut baking • 5 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional) pan.

Doughnuts: In a medium bowl, whisk together Doughnuts flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and • 1 cup/250 mL all-pur- sugar. Set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, egg, buttermilk, Maple Bacon Flavor and pose flour • 3/4 tsp/4 mL baking All Natural Original Gourmet Baking Vanilla®. Add wet ingredients to medium bowl with dry ingredients. powder • 1/4 tsp/1.25 mL bak- Stir together until well combined. Transfer batter to a pastry bag or plastic sandwich bag. If using a sanding soda wich bag, cut small corner of bag with scissors before • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL salt adding batter to bag. Add batter to lightly greased • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Organic Ground Cinnamon doughnut baking pan. Make sure each mold is ¾ full • 1/3 cup/80 mL granulated sugar with batter. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove pan from • 2 tbsp/30 mL unsalted butter, melted oven and let cool in pan before removing doughnuts.

• 1 large egg Glaze: In a medium bowl, mix together powdered • 1/2 cup/125 mL buttermilk sugar and Maple Bacon Flavor. Slowly add milk un• 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Maple Bacon Flavor til desired consistency. Spoon glaze over each baked • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL All Natural Original Gourmet doughnut. Optional – Add bacon crumbles on top of Baking Vanilla glaze when glaze is still wet. If desired, decorate with Sprinkles & Sugars.

Changes To Garbage Pick Up The Village of Lumby has contracted a new company to pick up your household garbage. This change was effective January 1, 2021 with SCV Waste Solutions receiving this contract.
