PACIFIC COTTAGE

Pacific Cottage is a beautifully restored Victorian coach house, located in the popular seaside town of Clevedon. Believed to date back to 1870, the period property is hidden from passers-by, yet situated only a short walk from The Beach and Hill Road with its array of boutique shops, eateries and bars.

KEY FEATURES Greeted by a beautiful wooden door and stained glass window, charm flows from room to room in this coastal home. A spacious entrance hall welcomes you with wooden floor, wall panels and a stunning cast iron spiral staircase which connects the three floors. A large sitting room is flooded by natural light through windows and French doors, whilst a feature fireplace and wood burning stove give a cosy feel and warm focal point. A smart modern utility room provides access to a stylish bathroom, home office/study and good sized garage. Down the spiral stairs the country style kitchen with Belfast sink and exposed beams provides room to cook, dine and entertain. On the top floor, a bright landing space leads you to three double bedrooms and an elegant family bathroom featuring a roll top bath, wooden floor and vintage style radiators. The main bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room, two large windows and a fireplace. French doors lead you out from the kitchen to a quaint courtyard garden with flagstones, water features and space for potted plants. To the front is space for two to three cars, a seating area and a place for pots and plants. There is also a workshop with power and lighting, accessed from the front of the building.

SELLER INSIGHT This utterly charming three-bedroom former coach house, which has been lovingly renovated and refurbished by the current owners, occupies a very peaceful, tucked-away location in the heart of the pretty coastal town of Clevedon. “The property was almost completely derelict when we bought it twenty-seven years ago, but we’d always fancied getting our teeth into a project and so when we came across Pacific Cottage, everything fell into place,” says Helen. “The building dates back to c1870 and we think it may at one time have been used to house the servants from ‘the big house’, which was owned by importers of wine and cheese. In terms of the work that we’ve done, I suppose the brief we set ourselves was to transform this lovely old building into a warm and welcoming house, with all the benefits of a modern home, yet one that retains a real sense of its history, and we really couldn’t be more pleased with the results of all of our hard work.” “We’ve added a really ornate cast iron spiral staircase that elegantly winds its way up through the house, we opened up fireplaces, restored and enhanced the beautiful old floorboards, made a feature of the exposed beams in the kitchen and we’ve added smart wood panelling in the reception hall which is very stylish. We’ve also installed a modern kitchen and refurbished the bathrooms, adding traditional twists here and there so the house is very much a modern home, but with all the character of a period property.” “The house is really nicely tucked away, so much so that people who have lived in Clevedon for many years often say that they never knew it existed,” continues Helen. “We benefit from a good amount of outside space, including a sheltered courtyard just off the kitchen, a nice seating area to the front where we’ve just added a bench and a fire pit, and we also have ample off-street parking for at least three cars.” “Each of the rooms has its own unique character and charm; they are all just lovely, but one of my favourites is actually the main bathroom. It features a beautiful claw foot roll top bath as well as an antique water heater so all in all it’s a room that really has that wow factor. I love it!” “We’ve loved living in Clevedon, it’s a fabulous place. We can stroll down to Hill Road, which is a very buzzy place with a superb array of individual shops; we have some lovely parks nearby, the pier is a big attraction and we love to take the dogs for a long walk down on the beach, which is just a stone’s throw from the house. Clevedon is a place that has a lot going for it.” “On the rear of the property there is a more modern extension, added before we came here, and in it we’ve created a home office, a bathroom and a large utility. It would be easy to put a cooker in the utility room, turn the office into a bedroom and essentially create an annex, ideal for guests, elderly relatives or even a teenager.” “The only reason we’ve decided to move is that we need land for our daughter’s horse, but if I could pick up this house and plant it in five acres, I’d do it in a heartbeat,” says Helen. “We are so proud of all of the work that we’ve done to the house, and it’s now the most beautiful home.”* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
