A beautifully presented Grade II Listed, 14th Century farmhouse with generous accommodation, a separate barn, pretty gardens and a popular Portishead location.
KEY FEATURES A beautifully presented Grade II Listed, 14th Century farmhouse with generous accommodation, a separate barn, pretty gardens, and a popular Portishead location. Greenfield is a charming, detached home with Medieval origins but benefiting from all the mod-cons of the 21st century. The three-story detached house offers privacy from the road and enjoys a southerly aspect overlooking the distant hills and woodlands. Approached via a sweeping driveway hidden from the road, past parking for plenty and through a rose garden, the entrance to the house is through an old door under a stone porch. Step inside and you are welcomed into a large sitting room with a fireplace to each end, exposed beams and stonework, several windows, and French doors. Step up a couple of stairs, through an original wooden door and you are greeted by a light filled dining room with a wood burning stove, fireplace, exposed beams, and rafters. A further door leads to a smart hallway with access to a secluded study, stylish cloakroom, store and into a newly refitted kitchen breakfast room. The kitchen breakfast room features a high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, classic shaker style units with concrete effect worktops, a central island with space to sit, a Belfast sink and built-in appliances including a coffee machine. From the kitchen, there is a convenient a boot room and utility room as well as a further door to the lush gardens.
History Portishead dates to Roman times with its name deriving from the ‘port at the head of the river’, although the discovery of ancient, polished flint axe heads suggest prehistoric settlements. With a long history as a fishing port, Portisheads historical architecture is dominantly Victorian, with workers cottages, detached villas and farmhouses dotted around the town. In 1497 John Cabot departed from the port for his adventure on The Matthew and 1758 saw the capture of HMS Belliqueux – a French squadron returning from Quebec. In 1907 one of the two railway lines opened, however 1964 saw the last of the lines close. There have been plans to bring back a railway line to Portishead which most locals are in favour of. Greenfield itself became a listed building by Historic England in 1981 and is noted as two dwellings – Greenfield and Hazelwood. The house is said to date back to late Medieval times and be of the 14th Century. It was thought to be the farmhouse serving the southwest of the town and is one of only a handful of period farmhouses in the area.
KEY FEATURES To the first floor are three double bedrooms and three bathrooms, including a principal bedroom with shower room, a guest bedroom with en-suite shower room, walk-in wardrobe and dressing room, a further double bedroom and a large family bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle. The charm of the Medieval property continues up to the third floor where three additional bedrooms and a cloakroom provide extra space for children or occasional guests, all with beautiful, exposed beams and some added quirk!
Outside there is an elevated terrace with flagstones and a sheltered BBQ area, perfect for alfresco dining or watching the sunset with your favourite drink. This overlooks the gardens below and a horizon of trees to the distance. Three paths lead you down to the main garden with a large lawn and a further terrace, perfect for relaxing in the sun or shade. Beautiful established borders provide privacy and a pretty backdrop while a sheltered swinging chair sits under a canopy of Honeysuckle. Several outbuildings are found within the gardens and include an attached workshop which offers potential for further accommodation, a stone-built storage shed with power and lighting and an incredible barn. The barn is an impressive space with high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and stonework and lots of wow factor. Currently set up as an entertainment space with a bar, pool table (not included) and a TV area it offers flexibility and potential for an outside office, annex, gym, or studio. Greenfield is a true ‘hidden gem’ with ‘bags of character’, luxury fittings and a superb location.
Portishead is coastal town on the Severn Estuary and situated just eight miles east from Bristol. The large town not only offers a convenient location with easy access to the M5 Motorway, Bristol International Airport, and the city of Bristol itself, but great schools and a thriving high street with both small independent shops as well as a Waitrose, Majestic Wine, Tesco’s and Sainsburys. The town owes its recent growth and popularity to the redevelopment of Portishead Marina. Once a dock used to supply coal and goods, The Marina is now a hub of activity with 250 Pontoon Berths, Coffee shops, restaurants, food store and pub, all surrounded by a modern development of luxury apartments and town houses. Another local attraction is Portishead Lake Grounds and Lido. At The Lake Grounds you will find a boating lake, children’s play park with café and a large green perfect for picnics or watching the cricket or football and a Promenade. Built in 1962 Portishead Lido is a heated open-air pool with café. Other than swimming or splashing around, the pool has also opened as an outdoor cinema and shown screenings like Bohemian Rhapsody. The area is popular with families, commuters, and investors due to its diverse range of property types and great situation.
