History Portishead dates to Roman times with its name deriving from the ‘port at the head of the river’, although the discovery of ancient, polished flint axe heads suggest prehistoric settlements. With a long history as a fishing port, Portisheads historical architecture is dominantly Victorian, with workers cottages, detached villas and farmhouses dotted around the town.

In 1497 John Cabot departed from the port for his adventure on The Matthew and 1758 saw the capture of HMS Belliqueux – a French squadron returning from Quebec.

In 1907 one of the two railway lines opened, however 1964 saw the last of the lines close. There have been plans to bring back a railway line to Portishead which most locals are in favour of.

Greenfield itself became a listed building by Historic England in 1981 and is noted as two dwellings – Greenfield and Hazelwood. The house is said to date back to late Medieval times and be of the 14th Century. It was thought to be the farmhouse serving the southwest of the town and is one of only a handful of period farmhouses in the area.

KEY FEATURES To the first floor are three double bedrooms and three bathrooms, including a principal bedroom with shower room, a guest bedroom with en-suite shower room, walk-in wardrobe and dressing room, a further double bedroom and a large family bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle.

The charm of the Medieval property continues up to the third floor where three additional bedrooms and a cloakroom provide extra space for children or occasional guests, all with beautiful, exposed beams and some added quirk!

Several outbuildings are found within the gardens and include an attached workshop which offers potential for further accommodation, a stone-built storage shed with power and lighting and an incredible barn.

The barn is an impressive space with high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and stonework and lots of wow factor. Currently set up as an entertainment space with a bar, pool table (not included) and a TV area it offers flexibility and potential for an outside office, annex, gym, or studio.

Greenfield is a true ‘hidden gem’ with ‘bags of character’, luxury fittings and a superb location.

Portishead is coastal town on the Severn Estuary and situated just eight miles east from Bristol.
