Lugano Events offers a guide to the main events and venues in Lugano.

Lugano Events is produced by the Events and Conventions Division (DEC) of the city of Lugano.

DEC was created through the merger of the Youth and Events Department with the Tourism Department, and now forms a part of the Department for Culture, Sport and Events.

In addition to the events held in the city, DEC coordinates Trade Fairs and Conventions and organises the related infrastructures. In particular, DEC is also in charge of agendalugano.ch, which is now available as an app. Whereas the seasonal booklets of Lugano Events are a brief guide, AgendaLugano offers a full and detailed view of all the events.

DEC also manages the concessions offered by the Lugano Card and collaborates in the promotion of Lugano as a tourist destination with Lugano Turismo, the Lugano tourist office.

Slow Dancing

Approda per la prima volta in Svizzera Slow Dancing, una video installazione di grandi dimensioni che dal 20 settembre al 9 ottobre 2016 illuminerà Piazza Bernardino Luini accendendo le luci sulla seconda stagione del LAC. Slow Dancing è una video installazione dell’artista californiano David Michalek che celebra la danza. L’opera si compone di una serie di 43 ritratti in movimento realizzati attraverso la tecnica dell’hyper-slow-motion video ideata dall’artista.

Slow Dancing is coming to Switzerland for the first time, a larger-than-life video installation that will light up the Piazza Bernardino Luini from 20 September until 9 October 2016, casting a spotlight on the new season of the LAC. Slow Dancing is a video installation by the Californian artist David Michalek that celebrates dance as an art form.

d'autunno

Il primo week end di ottobre Lugano festeggia l'inizio dell'autunno. La festa d'autunno conclude le manifestazioni all'aperto con una grande kermesse nella zona pedonale di Lugano. Nel classico scenario cittadino in una grande coreografia di colori e sapori si potranno trovare i tipici grottini, tanta musica folcloristica e soprattutto le bancarelle dove acquistare prodotti gastronomici locali. Una grande festa per tutti per celebrare assieme l'inizio della stagione autunnale.

Lugano celebrates the beginning of autumn during the first weekend of October. The characteristic streets of the city centre are adorned with a burst of colour and tastes, where you can find typical grottos, lots of folk music and a variety of stalls selling local gastronomic products. A big party open to all to celebrate the start of the autumn season.

La Gianetti Day è una pedalata e gara popolare aperta a tutti con Mauro Gianetti ed altri assi del pedale. Per festeggiare i 20 anni della manifestazione la gara si terrà sul percorso dei Campionati Mondiali di Lugano del 1996, che diedero origine alla Gianetti Day. NATALE IN PIAZZA CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE

Dal 26 novembre la Città si trasforma e si veste di luci, suoni e colori del Natale. La festa più bella dell’anno viene celebrata con i tradizionali mercatini, un villaggio per bambini e famiglie, concerti, animazioni, la grande festa di Capodanno e tanti altri eventi che fino all’8 gennaio porteranno la magia del Natale nel centro cittadino.

From 26 November the City will be transformed with the lights, sounds and colours of Christmas. The celebrations of the most beautiful festival of the year will include traditional markets, a Christmas village for children and families, concerts, entertainment, a big party on New Year’s Eve and many other events that will fill the city centre with the magic of Christmas until 8 January.

Le numerose bancarelle del tradizionale mercatino natalizio propongono tante idee regalo, dai prodotti d’artigianato alle decorazioni, fino alle specialità gastronomiche. Dal 26 novembre al 9 dicembre vi aspettano una trentina di bancarelle, tutti i giorni dalle 11:00 alle 19:00. Dal 10 al 24 dicembre, invece, più di cento bancarelle animeranno il centro cittadino

At the traditional Christmas market you will find many gift ideas, from handicrafts and decorations to typical food products. From 26 November to 9 December there will around 30 stalls, open every day from 11:00 to 19:00. From 10 to 24 December, on the other hand, more than 100 stalls will line the city streets.

From 26 December to 8 Januar, Parco Ciani becomes a magical Christmas village dedicated to all children. Il Musical è tratto dall’omonimo film cult del 1984 con un giovanissimo e esordiente Kevin Bacon. Le atmosfere musicali degli anni ’80, le originali e incredibili coreografie fanno da cornice ad una semplice, ma incredibilmente vera, storia d’amore tra due giovanissimi che credono nel loro futuro e nel sogno americano per riuscire a superare i preconcetti e divertirsi al ritmo di balli indimenticabili, perché “questo è il nostro tempo per ballare!”.

The Musical, based on the 1984 cult film of the same name starring the young newcomer Kevin Bacon, is coming to the LAC Theatre. The music of the 1980s combined with original and brilliant choreography form the backdrop for a simple but incredibly true love story between two teenagers who believe in their future and in the American dream, who manage to overcome prejudice and to cut loose with spectacular dancing, because “this is our time to dance!”.

MusicNet is returning with a new format to expand what the fair has to offer and to bring the city to life even in winter. In order to broaden the range of its three main components, the programme will cover a period of three weeks and the events will be held in different venues that play an important role in the artistic and music scene of Lugano.

Durante la Winter Session una giuria di professionisti del settore valuta la performance dei gruppi presenti, selezionando le band che accederanno alla finale e che potranno esibirsi sul palco di Piazza Manzoni in maggio. L’esposizione è patrocinata dal Giornale del Popolo nell’ambito delle iniziative volte a festeggiare i propri novanta anni di esistenza.

Dario Bianchi presenta due cicli di opere pittoriche, realizzate sull’arco di una quindicina di anni, riunite sotto il titolo “Luoghi vangoghiani e altri omaggi”.

L’idea di rivisitare pittoricamente alcuni luoghi emblematici del travagliato iter umano e artistico di Van Gogh (e di altre personalità artistiche) fa capire quanto importante sia la presenza di maestri o di personalità significative nella personale ricerca di un artista, mai avulsa da un contesto di rimandi e di insegnamenti.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Giornale del Popolo as part of the events celebrating the ninety years since its foundation.

Dario Bianchi will present two cycles of paintings, created over a period of fifteen years, which come together under the heading “The places of Van Gogh and other homages”.

The idea of revisiting several symbolic places along the tormented personal and artistic path of Van Gogh through his paintings (and those of other artists) shows us the important role that teachers or significant characters play in the personal quest of an artist, all within a context of cross-references and teachings.
