Welcome

E

stablished in 1999, this testing 18-hole golf course is situated within the exclusive new golf village of Great Denham just outside the county town of Bedford.

The course designer David Potteridge was clearly influenced by the likes of Augusta National when he designed The Bedford with the elevating, undulating American style greens being a focal point.

We have built up a reputation, which we are very proud of, for being friendly and welcoming to members and visitors alike along with promoting a modern approach to golf.

Whether you are an established golfer or just starting out on your golfing journey, we offer a variety of membership options.

We host a number of Societies and Corporate Golf Days during the year and host the Pro Am Series during the winter months.

The Bedford Golf Club is more than just a golf club. We are open to members of the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also host a variety of social events during the year for both members and guests. We are very happy to accommodate functions such as parties, christenings, wedding receptions and wakes. We would like to extend you a very warm welcome and look forward to seeing you on the golf course very soon.

The Course

T

he golf course presents a challenge from tee to green with plenty of water hazards and well-positioned bunkers to catch any wayward shots. The course boasts the largest teeing areas in the region, which are in excellent condition all year round.

Coupled with free draining, well-manicured fairways and outstanding greens, the course presents a challenge for all standards of golfer.

We have invested in the latest machinery and in conjunction with the hardworking attitude of the staff, we present a course to be proud of.

A decent touch is required to navigate the subtle slopes of the greens and the finishing straight, Holes 15, 16 & 17, will test the best golfer especially when played into the prevailing wind.

The tees and greens are superb throughout the year and, due to the excellent drainage, this is probably the best winter course in the county, providing a full 12 months golf.

We are committed to making continual improvements to the course though the direction and efforts of our Head Greenkeeper and his team.

The golf course measures 6194 yards, white Tees 5800 yards, yellow tees with a Par 71 for men.

antastic drainage at The Bedford means no temporary tees or greens which makes it a joy to play 365 days of the year. It is a first class round of golf that any player will find difficult to resist.

The First Hole Tough opening drive, O.O.B left and right. 2nd shot is all carry, but don’t be long though.

The Second Hole Straightforward Par 5 but a difficult undulating green.

The Third Hole Don’t try to cut off too much of the corner. Good birdie chance.

The Fourth Hole First of the Par 3’s.

Very difficult when the pin is on the right.

The Fifth Hole Keep the drive to the left. Long hitters can reach this undulating green in two.

The Sixth Hole Lots of water! Long iron or 3 wood should leave a short iron to this two tiered green.

The Seventh Hole Tough Par 4 dog leg left. Drive right of the fairway bunkers to leave a long iron into a prevailing wing. Note depth of the green.

The Eighth Hole Newly converted Par 3. Straightforward, green has some very subtle breaks.

The Ninth Hole Great short Par 3.

Wide, but shallow green.

The Tenth Hole Drive right of left hand bunkers to leave shortish shot to green.

Good birdie chance.

The Eleventh Hole Straight Par 4, but don’t hit your second shot left of the green slopes off into left hand bunkers.

The Thirteenth Hole Either lay up or drive the ditch.

2nd shot to raised green so it’s all carry.

The Fifteenth Hole Good Par 3 with water on the right.

Aim between the bunkers and 3 will be good.

The Twelfth Hole Best Par 4 on the course. Water left and right of fairway, to undulating green.

4 is always good here.

The Fourteenth Hole Great Par 5. Drive short of ditch.

2nd shot to the corner or carry all the water. 3 is possible, so is 8!

The Sixteenth Hole Dog leg left. Long hitters can aim right of the pylon, or just fight of the bunkers into prevailing wind makes this a long Par 5.

Playing Golf at the Bedford Golf Club

e pride ourselves on catering for all golfing needs. We have a full competition calendar enabling all our membership categories to compete.

We have teams playing both formal and informal matches against other golf clubs, for men, ladies, seniors, mixed and juniors.

We have various roll-ups during the week, offering members the certainty of a game and the opportunity to meet other members.

We welcome individual visitors, societies and corporate golfers to The Bedford. We offer various green fee’s rates and packages.

We operate a tee booking system through the Pro Shop, enabling you to book up to 7 days in advance. This gives you the security of knowing you have a tee time and the ability to avoid the busier times.

or the majority of people the reason for joining a golf club is to test out their golfing skills against their peers.

Here at The Bedford we offer plenty of opportunities for this with competitions throughout the year for both individuals and teams and matches against other golf clubs. Saying that, we also offer plenty of opportunities for friendly competitions for those amongst us who are not as competitive.

Here’s a taste of what we have to offer our members:

he section is extremely friendly and continues to welcome new ladies into the section.

Competitions are held on Thursday, which is ladies morning. When there is no competition scheduled the ladies meet up for a social roll up. For those ladies who cannot play weekdays we offer weekend competitions twice a month.

We welcome visitors but ask that the normal rules of etiquette, and our dress code are observed. We ask that visitors check in at the Pro Shop before teeing off.

We do not request a handicap certificate, but reserve the right to refuse permission if the player’s lack of ability seems likely to spoil the enjoyment of others on the course.

Here at The Bedford we have an ideal space to hold a variety of events including birthday parties, anniversary meals, wedding receptions and Christenings.

We can create bespoke menus using fresh, local ingredients and our events and catering team work hard to ensure an event to remember!

We are also able to offer spaces for conferences, training sessions and board meetings. For large numbers, our sliding acoustic doors offer us the opportunity of creating one large conference room for up to 120 people in theatre style. he Bedford Golf Club is ideally situated on the outskirts of Bedford town centre within easy access from the M1 and A1 motorways.

Located just off of the A421 heading towards Milton Keynes it is just a 10 minute drive from both Junctions 13and 14 of the M1.

Directions to the club From the M1 Junction 14 Head south towards A509. Then continue straight onto A509/London Rd. At Tickford Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A509, go

through one roundabout. At A422/Chicheley Hill Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A422.

At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A428. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit.

At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Kingswood Way. Turn left at Carnoustie Dr. The Club is on the left.
