Welcome

Situated on the outskirts of Norwich, this easily accessible family club is an ideal venue for all your social and golfing requirements. Set in more than 190 acres of beautiful undulating Norfolk countryside, the aptly named Glen Lodge stands high above a tree lined valley, and is the focal point of this unique club.

Our 18 hole, 6716 yards, par 72 course is full of character and presents a wide variety of challenges to a golfer of all abilities, with its undulating landscape, trees and ponds with stunning views over the Yare valley it truly is worth a visit. Situated at our clubhouse, we have two practice putting greens, practice net and also a small chipping area.

Bawburgh also offers a par 36 nine hole course with a vast variety of holes, which could be played as part of a 27 hole package for the keener golfer or just simply the 9 holes for a quick round.

Further to this, Bawburgh’s Driving Range the Norwich Family Golf Centre, is one of Norfolk’s largest and fully equipped driving ranges. It boasts 28 covered range bays, most with Powertees, two private teaching bays with top technology and the choice of six qualified teaching professionals, Peter Field Golf Shop with its own fitting bay, a Bar and Cafeteria, Adventure Golf, conference room and much more! History

Bawburgh Golf Club was started in 1979 by Alan Barnard as a 9 Hole Course, designed by himself and Bert Kelly (former professional golfer) The course was a par 33 and 2577 yards in length.

Alan and Kate still took an interest in Bawburgh Golf Club right up to their final years, visiting for Lunch and helping out at the annual Barnard Charity Golf Day.

In 1991, Alan and wife Kate grew Bawburgh Golf Club further, developing into an 18 hole golf course, par 70. Shortly after, 1994 saw the addition of Glen Lodge Clubhouse.

Roberts Daughter Krissy (Business Manager) and colleague Jamie (Operations Manager) recently designed and constructed Glen Lodges new Wedding Venue, which opened in April 2019. Named the Barnard Suite in memory of Alan and Kate who both sadly passed away in 2018.

Over the years they both contributed to the growth of Golf in Norfolk. Alan provided Norfolk with the Barnard Trophy, an annual competition for senior golfers.

Alan and Kate’s son Robert Barnard carries on their legacy as Managing Director and instructed the additions of the companies 9 hole course and driving range.

If you have never played at Bawburgh Golf Club before you are in for a treat. Make the most of your trip by learning about some of the pitfalls that lie in wait and how to avoid them as you follow our hole-by-hole tour.

Hole 1 - The Valley - Par 4 - 318 Yards Pro’s Tip: A long iron or fairway wood down the right side of the fairway avoiding the hidden pond gives the perfect line into all flag positions, watch the sloping right to left green.

Hole 2 - Bunker Island - Par 3 - 136 Yards Pro’s Tip: A short to mid iron to a generous green, try to leave the approach beneath the pin to avoid a difficult putt.

Watch your back spin!

Hole 3 - Yare View - Par 5 - 551 Yards Pro’s Tip: A tough driving hole with O.O.B. left and right.

A second shot ideally needs to be placed on the plateau approach avoiding the bunker left and steep slope to the right. The pitch shot remaining needs care with a big two tier green, distance control essential.

Hole 8 - Pylon Plateau - Par 4 - 327 Yards

Pro’s Tip: A blind tee shot, ideally being placed left of the two hidden fairway bunkers, will leave a second shot with a long iron or fairway wood, avoiding the large deep bunker to the right and the overhanging tree on the left.

Pro’s Tip: A well placed tee shot avoiding the hidden fairway bunkers will leave a mid to short iron to a long thin green, the pitch needs to be well judged. Don’t miss the green right, a tricky chip awaits.

Hole 5 - The Twin Oaks - Par 5 - 557 Yards

Hole 9 - The Hedges - Par 4 - 383 Yards

Pro’s Tip: A generous driving hole but be aware of the 0.0 B. on the left. A well placed second shot leaves a short iron to a narrow two tier green. Distance control is key.

Pro’s Tip: A blind tee shot avoiding right and left fairway bunkers leaves a B downhill second shot avoiding the right hand greenside bunker, a running shot usually gives better results here. Avoid going long.

Hole 6 - Sleepers Around - Par 4 - 349 Yards Pro’s Tip: A good tee shot is the key missing the fairway bunker on the right leaving a mid to short iron over the deep greenside bunker. A sleepered bank at the back of the green provides a good backstop.

Hole 10 - Dog Leg Hollows - Par 5 - 558 Yards Pro’s Tip: A drive up the left shortens this very long hole.

The corner of the dog-leg left can be cut Fen but only with a very good second. The best approach leaving the full length of green to pitch at is from the right

Hole 7 - The Hangings - Par 3 - 186 Yards Pro’s Tip: Long iron required to a large green sloping towards the player and from right to left. A cautious approach is required as this is possibly the hardest green to putt on.

Hole 11 - The Road Hole - Par 4 - 381 Yards Pro’s Tip: A tee shot up the right-hand side missing the fairway bunker is essential. A second shot into a small target awaits. If the flag is tucked behind the large sleepered bunker it will be a risk and reward.

Hole 12 - Potters Tee - Par 3 - 226 Yards

Hole 14 - Whins Brow - Par 4 - 442 Yards

Pro’s Tip: A long par 3 demanding a wood or long iron, missing the large undulating green short and straight offers the best chip and putt save.

Pro’s Tip: Blind tee shot to the left side of the fairway will make the long second to this demanding par 4 a little easier giving a better chance of avoiding the tricky bunker short right of the green.

Hole 13 - The Scots Pines - Par 5 - 514 Yards Pro’s Tip: The ideal tee shot is right to left avoiding the left bunkers giving you a good chance to reach in two but beware missing the green left, right or long as this will leave you a very difficult pitch.

Hole 15 - Birch Hollow - Par 4 - 403 Yards A good tee shot avoiding the O.O.B and bunkers will leave a second shot to a blind green. Avoid the gorse front right of the green.

Hole 16 - Putters Peril - Par 3 - 141 Yards A lovely elevated short par 3. WRONG! Keeping your ball below the flag is a must. Many walk onto the green thinking birdie and walk off bogey. Watch the back spin.

Hole 17 - Poplars Drive - Par 4 - 318 Yards The drive needs to be on the right side avoiding the O.O.B and trees on the left, this sets up a mid to short iron to a two tier green sloping away and gathering from the right.

Hole 18 - Home and Dry Par 4 - 473 Yards

Excellent golf course, exceptionally friendly staff and first rate club house

A brilliant hole and a card wrecker.

A tee shot down the left side avoiding the fairway bunkers will leave a flat lie for the daunting second over water. Uncertainty on the second shot must be avoided. A bogey is no disgrace here, many will take more.



9 Hole Course Tour Hole 1 - Par 4 - 369 Yards A straight tee shot needed to this generous fairway, (be aware of the pond on the right hand side) will leave a mid to short iron to the green.

Hole 2 - Par 4 - 334 Yards A long iron or fairway wood aimed over the marker will leave you in a perfect position for a downhill shot into a small green with O.O.B close on the right and behind.

Hole 3 - Par 3 - 151 Yards An uphill par 3 needing a mid to long iron depending on whether the flag is at the front or back of this tiered green.

Hole 6 - Par 5 - 507 Yards The first of two consecutive par 5s. A blind tee shot aimed over the marker post will leave a choice for your second shot, either a layup short of the cross bunkers or risk a fairway wood and leave a shorter third shot into a small green, again with trouble lurking just over the green.

Hole 7 - Par 5 - 561 Yards A sweeping dog-leg with a left to right tee shot you will avoid O.O.B on the right and hidden bunker onthe left. A long second shot avoiding two well placed fairway bunkers will leave a mid to short iron to a small green.

Hole 8 - Par 4 - 401 Yards

Hole 4 - Par 4 - 281 Yards A short par 4 , where a drive aimed slightly left of the marker, if long enough, could leave an eagle putt.

Otherwise a mid to short iron is left from the top of the hill.

Beware of over clubbing as a lost ball awaits through the green.

Hole 5 - Par 3 - 141 Yards

A mid range par 4 needing a tee shot over the marker post, this will leave a mid to long iron to another small green, with danger again close through the green.

Hole 9 - Par 4 - 384 Yards A straight drive is needed, avoiding the O.O.B on the right, leaving a short to mid iron to the finishing green.

A mid iron is needed for this slightly uphill, picturesque par 3. Pay attention to the pin position as the green is wickedly undulating.

At Bawburgh Golf Club we extend a warm welcome to visitors, with both our green fees and society packages representing fantastic value for money.

Visitors are welcome to play the course during the week or at the weekend, and are invited to use the club’s other outstanding facilities during their visit. You do not have to be a golfer to be able to spend an enjoyable time with us.

You will find the course provides an interesting challenge for golfers of all abilities, with stunning views over the Yare Valley adding to the elegance of the course.

The well-stocked Peter Field Golf Shop will allow you to stock up on consumables and to browse the wide range of

golf equipment and clothing, while a full range of catering facilities is also available in the clubhouse, where you can relax with companions and enjoy the views over the practice facilities.

Although handicap certificates are not mandatory, we do prefer golfers to be of a sufficient standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course.

Driving Range

From beginner to expert, everyone is welcome at the Norwich Family Golf Centre. Our driving range has 28 covered bays with additional mat and grass bays outside.

Our floodlit driving range outfield is the largest in Norfolk and has multiple targets to practise your aim, day or night.

Each bay is individually divided and most have power tees and heating to make your practise extra convenient.

Take advantage of our Range Card system!

The Range cards work by loading money onto them at reception and scanning the barcode at the ball machine to purchase your balls. You do not need to pay for the card itself but there is £10 minimum top up required. The range card has different categories assigned to it and depending on whether you are a visitor or member and how much you load onto to the card results in what discount you receive when you scan your card.

The different categories are as follows: Visitor: No discount is given (but you won’t need to fill your pockets with change every time you visit!)

Loyalty Scheme Visitor: If you load £20 or more onto your card then you will receive 10% extra balls in your vend.

Member: You will receive 10% off the vend price when you scan your card at the ball machine.

Loyalty Scheme Member: If you load £20 or more onto your card then you will receive 10% extra balls in your vend as well as 10% off the price when you scan your card.

Feeling a bit rusty? Don’t worry!

Norwich Family Golf Centre provides one of Norfolk’s largest putting and short game practice areas. Our 18 hole practice putting green has various difficulty of angles and slopes to test your putting from almost every situation. Our chipping area has three different mats and bunkers allowing you to practise a large variety of shots onto the green. A full analysis of your entire bag, initially looking at how your existing set is made up by surveying aspects such as club length, digital frequency analysis, true loft, face angle and digital swingweight. This helps us identify the cause of any performance related issues, highlights any inconsistencies throughout the bag and what your clubs are likely to promote in their static state. We also discuss other contributing factors such as injury or physical limitations and how your clubs may be affecting performance in this respect.

Utilising an interchangeable head & shaft system, we are then able to highlight the ideal loft and shaft type. By discussing your preferences on aesthetics and feel we are then able to select a head model that will fine tune the ball flight.

The Barnard Suite can seat up to 120 guests but with further seating facilities available in our Clubhouse and Conservatory where we can accommodate more guests if required, this is also the perfect space for guests to take a quiet moment or to display sweet tables, photobooths, present tables and more.The room itself has an option partitioning wall to allow you to separate your space if required. We also have a delightful veranda and patio area with a garden that looks out over the 18th green. All of our rooms have disabled access.

All of our catering is provided by our inhouse catering team who are passionate about food. Using seasonal, local produce, our menus are carefully designed by our chefs to provide a wide selection of mouth-watering dishes. We offer a variety of catering options, including canapes, carvery, sit down meals, BBQs, hot rolls, afternoon tea and buffets.
