NATIONAL MEALS ON WHEELS DAY

National Meals on Wheels Day falls on Wednesday the 25th of August this year.

The day provides an opportunity to recognise the dedication, commitment and resilience of the 45,000 Meals on Wheels volunteers, who tirelessly support vulnerable members of the Australian community, across over 590 service locations

Having noticed a decline in volunteers over the last 12 months, we are also focusing on the urgent need for volunteer delivery drivers this National Meals on Wheels Day Essentially, Meals on Wheels needs more wheels!

This year, while celebrating and thanking the wonderful work of our Meals on Wheels volunteers across the country, we are also looking to inspire ‘the next generation’ of volunteers by collaborating with Australian primary schools.

In the lead up to, or during the week of National Meals on Wheels Day, primary school students are encouraged to create ‘thank you ’ cards, for volunteers at their local Meals on Wheels service.

If you know a primary school who would like to participate, please have them contact us at manager@mealsonwheelsbroadbeach com au

Please stay home if at all unwell and get tested - It would be appreciated if you advised our Managers if you have had a Covid Test, and the result If any of your close contacts had been in exposure sites, or are getting tested, consider also letting the Manager know of the possibility that you may also need to be tested in the coming days Advise when you have had your vaccinations!

BBMOW PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I am delighted to inform you that Broadbeach Meals on Wheels (BBMOW) has an ambassador. Lucy Cole, of Lucy Cole Real Estate, was honoured to be asked to promote the wonderful service that BBMOW provides to the Gold Coast community. Lucy is a well-respected and generous, long term business-woman on the Gold Coast and the committee believes her high exposure and extensive networks will benefit BBMOW. She has wasted no time in completing her volunteer induction paperwork and completing online training to learn as much as she can. Lucy has already facilitated a radio interview on 4CRB on Monday 26 July at 12.30pm to promote BBMOW.

Our new job share manager, Dion Vandenhout, has completed four weeks in the job and he is settling in very well. I hope you have had the opportunity to meet and welcome Dion.

The BBMOW monthly volunteer morning tea attendees are growing in numbers. I look forward to each one as I get to know more of you. On Friday 9 July, we welcomed Lucy Cole to BBMOW. Lucy was able to meet committee members, Tim Goh and Brooke Robey, along with our other valuable volunteers. The next BBMOW morning tea will be at 11am on Friday 13 August ; hosted by Care Finder Solutions, informing us about the new service they provide. You are most welcome to attend. This is a good opportunity to bring any friends or family who may be interested in volunteering.

The committee is anxiously awaiting the completion of the new BBMOW website. I will keep you updated on progress.

I wish you a healthy and productive month.

Best wishes

Mara Bennett
