Thursday, 10 May 2018 Just before midnight of Mother’s Day, a mother and employee of the Belize City Council was treated to an unexpected gift, in the form of a Molotov cocktail thrown on her vehicle. Mayor Bernard Wagner and the Belize City Council has issued a strong statement condemning Wednesday night’s firebombing of the vehicle belonging to CitCo Human Resources Manager Sharlene Rudon. The vehicle was parked in front of Rudon’s home in the King’s Park area when Police say investigations reveal that two persons ran up and threw a flaming bottle with some type of accelerant, known as a Molotov cocktail, against it. The incident happened at around 11:00pm.
In its release, the Council asserts that “It was clearly a deliberate and dangerous act of arson, and there can be no doubt that it is directly related to the recent restructuring of the Council which has resulted in the termination of six persons.” The Council continues to “condemn this reprehensible act which we view as no less than domestic terrorism, carried out no doubt by an agent or agents acting on behalf of one or more of the persons terminated.” On Tuesday, six persons including City Administrator Candice Miller, who was on suspension, were terminated as a result of an ongoing restructuring of the Belize City Council.
