COUNTRY LOCKDOWN Peyrefitte Puzzled-Country Confused Thursday, 02 April 2020 It is crystal clear from what we’ve seen so far that those making decisions in the Government of Belize are not the brightest bulbs in the tool-shed. After Minister of Confusion and Everything Mike Peyrefitte made another appearance on Ask the Experts Thursday afternoon, Belizeans were left, as usual, with more questions than answers. At a time when engines must be running on all cylinders, Peyrefitte and his boss, Dean Oliver, seem stuck in first gear. On Wednesday, it was announced that Brad’s Gaming Company had gotten an extension of three months to operate during the State of Emergency. Not even twelve hours later, it was announced that Boledo/ Lottery would be suspended for the duration of the SOE. On Wednesday, it was announced that hardware

stores would remain open during the SOE. By Thursday, it was announced that hardware stores would need to be closed down. The situation is much the same for essential workers. On Wednesday, the Government Press Office reached out to the media and to the general public to ask them to submit names for passes which would allow persons to be out during curfew hours, performing essential services. But even as companies prepared to submit names, the Minister of Confusion announced today that nobody would be allowed out during curfew hours and that companies would need to re-adjust their employees’ schedules so that nobody is out at that time.
