Dangriga, September 10, 2016 Defending champs Police United, FC Belize and Verdes FC all posted their 2nd wins in Week 4 of the Premier League of Belize’s opening season tournament; the Police handing Wagiya FC their 1st loss: 2-1 at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Saturday. The Police goals came from John King in the 5th minute and Harrison “Kafu” Roches in the 59th minute. Wagiya’s Alton Kerr scored in the 86th minute. Verdes FC upset the Belize Defence Force by the same score: 2-1 at the Norman Broaster Stadium on Sunday, with Richard “Cheety” Jimenez scoring in the 8th minute and Gilroy “Bredda” Thurton in the 47th minute. Shane “Chucky” Flores scored the BDF’s only goal in the 28th minute. FC Belize won 1-0 vs. the Placencia Assassins at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence last Saturday night from a goal struck by Hector Martinez in the 20th minute. It was the Assassins’ 2nd loss. The Paradise Freedom Fighters posted their 1st win: 3-1 vs. winless PLB rookies Orange Walk United at the People’s Stadium on Sunday. The Sugar City squad drew first blood when Hipolito Andrade scored from a set piece in the 15th minute. The visitors locked up shop after that and Jaren Lambey, who was Julian Cho High’s top striker at the National Secondary School Sports Association Championships in February, dished out 2 goals in the 23rd and 28th minutes. Kenroy Arthurs scored a 3rd goal in the 75th minute. The BDF host the Freedom Fighters at the MCC Garden on Saturday, September 17, while the Belmopan Bandits visit Orange Walk United at the People’s Stadium on Sunday. The Placencia Assassins visit Police United at the Norman Broaster Stadium on Sunday, while FC Belize awaits Wagiya FC at the MCC on Sunday.

Roaring Creek Grace Kennedy Wins 2016 Cayo Women’s Softball Championship Roaring Creek Village, September 4, 2016 Roaring Creek Grace Kennedy won the 2016 Cayo Softball Association’s Raymond Garbutt women’s softball championship in Roaring Creek Village on Sunday, September 4. In Game 1 of the finals, the Unitedville Rebels, led by pitcher Francine Salazar, won 7-6 against Roaring Creek, as Roaring Creek pitcher Leyandra Guy struck out 1 batter but gave up 7 hits, allowing Patricia Spain, Shadine Salazar and Shamira Wade to score 2 runs apiece while Lynette “Panchy” Gabourel scored 1 run. The Rebels left 3 runners on base. Salazar struck out two batters but gave up 10 hits, allowing Shadalee Ho and Shanelly Ho to score 2 runs apiece, while Karlee Bradley and Stephanie Francis scored a run apiece. Roaring Creek made 3 errors and left 7 runners on base. In Game 2 of the Finals played by the Paige system, Roaring Creek won the championship: 8-4 vs. the Rebels.
