Wednesday, October 5, 2016 In an interview granted to the media on Saturday, October1, 2016, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Pickstock Area Representative Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington took the opportunity to express GOB’s opinion of teachers, coming out of a UDP National Party Council Meeting to address the BNTU’s industrial action. According to Sedi, the teachers should not really be dabbling in matters like corruption and good governance and those pesky social and political issues. He told the astonished media that, “It is not my understanding that they have the remit really to take on all the issues of the country, and I don’t even know whether they have the wisdom or the ability or the competence to deal with those issues.”

The brazen insult by a senior Minister of Government is nothing new to the teachers who have had to endure vicious attacks from UDP operatives who have accused them of being “illiterate” and “money-hungry.” BNTU President Luke Palacio has been singled out for special attention, accused of misguiding teachers and persuading them to push a PUP agenda. This UDP government has continued to underestimate the teachers even as support countrywide grows and other entities have allied themselves with the fight for good governance. In a release issued today, the BCCI congratulates GOB for a decision to sign on to the UNCAC, but expresses that it is not enough. The release states that “governance reform measures need not wait upon the UNCAC. For example, the commencement order for the 13th Senator can be signed at any time. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 The Belize Times has confirmed that politically appointed CEO of the Corozal Commercial Free Zone Raul Rosado was terminated, with immediate effect, on Friday, October 1, 2016. Rosado, who ran for office under the UDP, is related through family to former Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega, and is also the Chairman of Minister of Health Pablo Marin’s Corozal Bay constituency. Reports are that Rosado’s termination is a result of serious and chronic wrongdoing which was brought to the
