Prime Minister Barrow, Today, you announced that you have advised the Governor General to dissolve the National Assembly and to fix Wednesday November 4, 2015 as the date for the next general elections, and Friday October 16 as Nomination Day. The decision comes only weeks after the close of the annual transfer period for Electors and days before the commencement of the process for the annual revision of the electoral lists. The election date of November 4, 2015 will not allow for the electoral lists to be revised for 2015, which is vital to an already bloated list.

For this and other concerns for a free and fair elections, we insist that Electoral Observers be invited to witness Belize’s election process on November 4, 2015. I therefore anticipate that you will invite the OAS, the Commonwealth or CARICOM to be present in Belize as independent monitors for this upcoming General Elections in Belize.

They say when you tell a lie, your nose grows longer and the more lies you tell, the longer and longer it grows. Remember the story of Pinocchio? They also say that when you start telling lies, you will continue to tell more and more lies.

I want the Belizean voters to remember what Barrow said in a speech he made some years ago, before he became Prime Minister.

He said that he will get a machete sharpened on both sides, and at the slight whiff of corruption he will cut its ugly head off. I am still waiting for him to start cutting off those heads.

I guess they are so many, he is now confused.

On another occasion, this time speaking to the media as Prime Minister of Belize, he said “I do not lie”.

Well, that was one of the first lies he told, and so many more thereafter. So many, I have lost count. A few months ago, before the BUYelection in Cayo North East, he told the people that he will give them schools, culverts, drains, streets… you name it, you got it. He boasted he has millions upon millions of dollars. His party won the election, the people are still waiting for those promises to be fulfilled.

After the CitCo elections, he was asked by the media if he will call early general elections. He responded by boasting to the nation, that he has so much work to get done in the country that he is not at all thinking of elections. He even suggested then, the amount of projects he has to carry out, five years will catch up on him.

On Independence Day, exactly one week before he announced that the date for the general election is November 4th, 2015, Prime Minister Barrow wrote off the debt owed by the public to the KHMH in Belize City and the public hospitals in the districts. Many of those debts were for small amounts of $200 or less. The relief to the poor was good, but it was also an election gimmick to divert the people’s attention from the crumbling state of the public health service. Under this administration with a billion dollar national budget and millions of dollars from Petrocaribe, 13 innocent babies died at the KHMH as a direct result of unsanitary conditions in the neonatal clinic. Not a single person was punished for that unnecessary tragedy.

In fact the contract of Dr. Gary Longsworth, then C.E.O. of the country’s main public hospital was later renewed, although he said he learned of the terrible neglect of the neonatal clinic and the death of the 13 babies on the evening TV news. the Western Regional Hospital was discarded after it was discovered that the pantry was heavily infested with disease-carrying rats. Following that incident, a snake bit a nurse in the same hospital and a rat later bit a newborn baby in an incubator at the same health facility. The public health service across the country has been so neglected for the past eight years, that many of their patients become more ill or lose their lives due to the lack of resources available to the nurses and doctors to do their job properly.

When the government confiscated BEL and BTL six years ago, it refused to pay compensation to the owners, Fortis (BEL) and Lord Michael Ashcroft (BTL). It also refused to repay a loan of $45 million that BTL had obtained to expand its operations. In another election gimmick less than a month ago, Mr. Barrow tried to cozy up to Belizeans by announcing a settlement with the two companies. But he tried to conceal the real cost of what turned out to be secret sweet agreements with Lord Ashcroft. Years of unnecessary delay in settling those matters have cost the government, really the taxpayers, millions and millions of dollars in legal fees that went mainly to the P.M.’s family. Due to the long delay in the payment of the compensation, the people of Belize have paid over a $100 million alone in interest.

The P.M. then forced the approval of a scandalous blank cheque at the National Assembly to pay Ashcroft millions and millions and millions of dollars more for BTL following the ruling of a yet incomplete arbitration tribunal without disclosing the amount to the nation.

he was again asked by the media if he will call an early election. This time he suggested early next year, sometime before March 2016. On Monday 2016, PM Barrow announced to the nation of Belize, that General Elections will be on 4 November 2015.

Belizeans, Barrow has been lying and lying to us. He has not been truthful to us. If he can lie about simple things like these then what about more serious matters? Just imagine the amount of lies he has told us that are not yet aware of. It is time for you to go liad Barrow.

PUP will enforce the 13th Senator!

Belizeans will decide on November 4th elections

Belize City, September 30, 2015 November 4th 2015 is the date set for general elections, but the day will also be one of unofficial referenda on important issues affecting our democracy and sovereignty. One of those issues is the implementation of the 13th Senator – a proposed feature of good governance and a strengthened democratic system which Prime Minister Dean Barrow has rejected over and over despite promising it in their election manifesto seven years ago.

The 13th Senator would allow the balance of power in the Senate to shift from the Government Senators (6 Senators) to the Opposition (3 Senators) and Social Partners (Union 1, Business Community 1, Churches 1) by adding a Non-Government Organisation representative. This would give the Senate real powers keep the Government in check and carry out its functions as a watchdog against wrongdoing by public officials.

As it stands, the Senate is controlled by the Government, which also appoints the President who acts as a tie-breaker when votes are in a deadlock. Over the past three years, the Senate has attempted to exercise its powers to pass motions to

strengthen the Public Accounts Committee, to inquire into the Immigration scandal involving corrupt UDP Cayo North East area representative Elvin Penner, and to investigate Petrocaribe spending. All attempts were blocked by the Government Senators, led by the so-called champion of reform, Godwin Hulse.

This is why Prime Minister Barrow has vehemently refused to allow for a 13 Senator despite passing it into law, in Sections 7 and 9 of the controversial Sixth Constitutional Amendment in 2010, “It ain’t going to happen,” has been his constant arrogant response.

The PUP, on the other hand, is committed to enforcing the expansion of the Senate by adding an NGO Senator. Opposition Leader Francis Fonseca has pledged that his Government will enforce the 13 Senator on the first day of office, following the November 4th elections.

In May 2015, the Opposition Leader attempted to compel the Prime Minister to keep his promise, by launching a legal challenge to Barrow’s obstinacy before the Supreme Court. The Court was to hear the matter on Wednesday September 30th but instead, with elections just 34 days away, the Court has decided to allow the Belizean people to

pass their verdict on the matter.

Voting for the UDP will mean that you do not support expanding the Senate to allow an NGO representative to have a seat, and do not want a Senate that will be able to keep the Government in check and investigate wrongdoing.

Voting for the PUP will mean enforcing the 13 Senator on the first day of office (November 5th), expanding the Senate to allow an NGO Senator, ending the Senate’s rubber stamp nature, and giving the Senate more power to challenge the Government.

The Supreme Court recognised that on November 4th Belizeans will be the ultimate judges on the matter, and in consultation with the Opposition Leader and the attorney for Prime Minister Dean Barrow, agreed to postpone further consideration on this issue until November 30th.

Opposition Leader Francis Fonseca is on a mission to restore Belize’s democracy.

“The Party supports greater accountability and transparency in Government finances and activities and continues to strongly maintain that it is vitally important for Belize’s governance and democracy that the 13th Senator be appointed as a matter of urgency,” affirmed Hon. Francis.

Governance reform is a must! The People’s United Party is committed to strengthening democracy through a reformed Senate.

BTL Profits Down Shareholders concerned about $97m liability to Ashcroft Belize City, September 30, 2015 For a second year, the government-owned and managed Belize Telemedia Limited has reported lower profits to its shareholders at the Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday night in Belize City.

The BTL Board headed by Nestor Vasquez and Anwar Barrow informed shareholders that the company’s profits dipped by 2.1 million dollars in the 2014-2015 financial year to a total of $17 million.

In the previous financial year (2013-2014), BTL saw a 7% reduction in profits, from $21 million to 19.6 million.

One of the controversial issues raised by shareholders was the enormous liability created by Prime Minister Dean Barrow who, after taking over the telecommunications company, refused to settle a $45 million dollar loan with the British Caribbean Bank. Over the past six years, the non-payment caused the interest to increase. The debt to BCB is now $97 million because of one man’s wrong-headed decisions and BTL will be footing the bill.

Barrow and Vasquez tried to confuse shareholders that BTL will not be dealing with more than $45m, because GOB is placing the other $52 million on an “indefinite moratorium”.While that sounds nice before the elections, shareholders will see after the elections how quick that moratorium will be lifted.

EDITORIAL The Future is Francis & the PUP

A

n election in a proper, functioning democracy should never be about who can buy and bribe poor voters to cast their ballots for a few dollars more. That is the Dean Barrow, UDP way.

The proper, moral thing that an election should be about is the caliber of the candidates and the quality of their ideas.

Hon. Francis Fonseca and his team for a better Belize has invested many hours listening and consulting with the people of Belize. From this honest and humble democratic exchange has emerged a clearer view of the kind of country and the type of government the people of Belize are hoping for.

Here are some of the ideas to which the Hon. Francis Fonseca and a new PUP government are committing itself to do.

The false belief that democracy in Belize only takes place once every five years when the people vote and thereafter have no say in the running of their country will be radically changed.

The law making body- the House of Representatives will be wired to the internet to be able to communicate with the citizens and students. Any recommendation or proposals from any quarter of society receiving more than ten thousand supporters will have to be introduced for debate and possible policy or legislative action.

The Senate will get a thirteenth Senator to balance discussions and properly review laws.

A major law revision will be conducted in open public forum.

The unjust and cruel firearms act that sends innocent Belizeans to jail will be changed.

Weekly Cabinet debriefing will occur every Tuesday in the open with the media.

All laws that give Ministers the ultimate say in whatever matter will be subject to amendment. Wherever a law places the ultimate power in the hands of a Minister, it will be subjected to overrule.

Ministries like the Ministry of Lands will not be ruled by a politician/Minister. Instead, a commission of citizens will act as a Board of Directors with the final say over how and who are granted the lands of the country. Composition on this important Board/Commission will include representatives from the students unions, labour unions, churches, chamber of commerce, the media, artists and social activist groups. The days of Gapi and the gangster form of government will come to an end.

Similar Boards of Citizens will oversee Immigration, Customs, Hospitals, the grant of citizenship, Police Abuse, Forestry, Geology, B.T.L, B.E.L and any important government department or agency.

This is what power to the people is all about.

This is what Hon. Francis Fonseca is all about.

The Boledo, Lottery, Fantasy 5 and other forms of gambling will be nationalized. The proceeds and profits will be placed in a special fund under the consolidated fund and used for single mothers to be taught skills and provided with employment.

Every child whether in Toledo, Belize or Stann Creek will go to college free of cost. Their parents must attend parents/teachers

meetings and be an active part of their children’s education. The same policy applies to Cayo, Orange Walk and Corozal. Every young person must get a college education. Every young Belizean preparing a family will be entitled to a piece of land. Our land is our birth-right.

Internet access will be free for every college and sixth form student. Resources will be made available to encourage every primary school child to attend Sunday school. Likewise for girl guides, boy scouts and sea scouts. Each school is to have a marching band and teach music and drama. It will make for disciplined young people and better citizens.

Territorial Volunteers and Belize Defense Force Volunteers will be allotted with resources to provide for those who wish to show their patriotism and participate in community and voluntary activities.

Southside Belize City will be legislated as an Economic Upliftment Zone. Anyone opening any business will benefit from tax breaks. The government will assist in providing loans, business advice, training and operation and management support.

Similar Economic Upliftment Zones will be established in the Districts. Every Belizean desirous of becoming a farmer will be allotted farm lands with crops or animals and have access to loans and heavy equipment. We will feed our nation and export the excess produce.

Back-yard farming will also get special attention from a renewed Agriculture Ministry. The spill- off will be a healthy citizenry but also local juices, jams and jellies from Belize’s abundance of fruits.

There will be special housing projects for police, nurses, army, and teachers for very affordable houses. It is the right of every Belizean to own a land and a house. Public officers will have better conditions of service.

Belizeans must now be motivated with a new vision of individual and family prosperity and economic independence. This is the quest of the Hon. Francis Fonseca and the new People’s United Party.

The George Price practice of having Wednesday Clinics will be the policy of the new PUP government. Every Minister must set aside Wednesday to meet the people on matters concerning his portfolio. We are serious about giving power to the Belizean people.

The Prime Minister by law must hold a town hall style meeting once a year in each district and answer directly to the people on any and all matters raised by any citizen.

Compare these sacred commitments of the Hon. Francis Fonseca to what Dean Barrow has done for the last seven and a half years. Victimization, corruption, enriching his family and cronies, using government resources for their personal gain and bad government with secret deals.

It is time to change government. Five more years of Dean Barrow and the UDP will be a horrible disaster.

“Daddy” & “Son” in Trouble at BTL Belize City, September 30, 2015 Like a pig wearing bright red lipstick, Prime Minister Dean Barrow has tried to paint a pretty picture of his secret travels, private meetings and dreadful deals with the man he once called the devil.

In an attempt to quell a wildfire against his administration, the lip-glossed pig rushed to meet with the workers of BTL on Wednesday September 30th afternoon, after the employees’ union issued a stinging release indicating their “disgust” with the Prime Minister and his arbitrary actions and decisions over BTL. The Belize Communications Workers’ Union were incensed that six years after he snatched away Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) from its previous owners, on the basis that his Government and the people of Belize could not afford a prolonged legal battle, Barrow returned to Ashcroft, cap in hand, to settle the dispute and agreed to outrageous terms that will see the Government, the company and taxpayers pay hundreds of millions more than it would have had the dispute been settled six years ago.

The BCWU’s release stated: “…Barrow Administration has done worse by saddling all Belizeans, from the cradle to those on their way to their graves, with a whopping $162 million plus of Belizean sweat dollars to the national debt, a figure that represents more than 15% of the national debt, and that is not the final figure due to Ashcroft!!! This money will come from dividends due shareholders, Social Security contributions, and the hard earned dollars of BTL’s customers. All this was done in secrecy to make Mr Ashcroft happy and a bunch of lawyers millions of dollars richer while

we the taxpayers of Belize and workers of BTL must now carry this increased debt burden with us every day. This is a slap in the face of all Belizeans!!!”

The Union also blasted the Prime Minister’s cosseted son, Anwar Barrow, who was handpicked to head BTL’s Board shortly after Barrow became Prime Minister. Apparently, Barrow had met with the BCWU before the Prime Minister made his grand announcement, but the boy Barrow “was not brave enough tell the union that Daddy was calling a press conference less than two hours later to announce that the government had arrived at a settlement with the Lord himself”.

For six years, BTL has been Barrow’s prized political possession. He got away with pretending the takeover was a bold patriotic move. The devil had been defeated, claimed Barrow. But it has turned out to be nothing but a calculated political gimmick, and a deliberate move his family in strategic financial positions. Barrow announced that his son would become a Board Director, and later Chairman, while his exwife was legal advisor. BTL had become Barrow’s Telemedia Limited.

Nationalisation was supposed to mean that employees and consumers would benefit. But the result has been the contrary, according to the BCWU. They claimed, in their release, that they have been disrespected over and over by the Prime Minister’s pawns. “…the BCWU has been a silent pillar of support, convinced that the Prime

Minister’s decision to nationalize the company was for the greater good of Belize and the BTL employees. …the nationalization was all a charade and we believe that the Prime Minister knew eons ago this is how it would have ended.

Do we really believe now that the Prime Minister could have humiliated Mr Ashcroft and win, much less get away with it. Is campaign money moving behind this settlement? All the substance of these “secret negotiations”, including campaign money must be disclosed. The people also need to know what else Ashcroft will get as a part of the settlement when Barrow wins his third term. You have taken us for fools Mr PM and we are disgusted”.

Prime Minister Barrow and the boy Barrow have responded to the BCWU’s release, calling it “outra-

geously derogatory” and “absolutely reprehensible”.

And, like children facing punishment, on Wednesday the employees of BTL were made to sit in silence as the chief pig grunted away in a meeting set up by the Board, claiming that his secret meetings with Aschroft

and decision to pay him $162 million as initial payment in an unresolved settlement, was all in the best interest of the country.

The BTL workers have had enough of Dean Barrow and his deceit. Their message after meeting was da fool di talk, but da no fool di listen.

Veteran Journalist Sues Malpago Mayor

By Roy Davis My last encounter with that wretched mayor, Darrell Bradley, was on Monday, August 31. He had gone to the magistrate court to represent a man who was charged with 54 counts of forgery and forgery related offences. He was accompanied by his secretary who works at his law firm, Lavender Chambers, located on Regent Street. Aldo Ayuso, a brotherin-law of the accused, was also present. I decided that this was a good opportunity to confront the mayor and let him know in no uncertain terms that I was going to sue him.

When I told him of my intention to sue him he assured me that it will not be necessary, that he was going

to save himself the embarrassment.

He admitted that over 2 months have passed and that payment was long overdue. He told me that I should go to Lavender Chambers the following day, Tuesday, September 1, at 2 p.m. and I will be paid.

I told him that we could make things quite easy, that if I don’t get there by 2 he could give his secretary the money to give me. He assured me that he would do so. All of this was said in the presence of Ayuso and the mayor’s secretary. Of course, based on past experience I had difficulty believing the mayor. But I decided to go anyway, even if only to prove him a habitual liar.

WOMAN IN THE HOUSE

THE POPE Pope Francis has just completed his visits to Cuba and the United States of America, to tumultuous welcomes and enthusiasm and much to the delight, no doubt, of Roman Catholics the world over. Last week Sunday it was brought to my attention that the music of the Cuban orchestras at Pope Francis’ Masses in Havana and Holguin was absolutely exquisite. I did get the opportunity to watch and hear the repeat of the Havana Mass, and I agree that you just cannot beat the Cubans for beautiful indigenous music in whatever format and for whichever forum.

There are two (perhaps more, but I will focus on two) outstanding themes that I have gleaned from his sermons and speeches during his visits to our two sister nations. And I was very cheered to hear Father Leslie reiterate these two vital messages delivered by

Pope Francis during his Sunday Mass sermon at Our Lady of the Way Church in Ladyville this past Sunday.

The first theme is what is so well known as the Golden Rule. In formal British English it goes like this: “Do as you would be done by.”

More colloquially or in another manner we know it as “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” In other words, we should always treat other people as we ourselves would like or prefer to be treated. This rule for living and for all persons of faith is fundamental to how any civilized community must conduct itself. And if we just remember this rule, then many actions of those in control can be judged, as we hold our leaders accountable.

The second major theme which emerged was that we must protect and preserve our environment. There is no more debate on the reality of global warming and the responsibility

of everyone, especially wealthy and powerful nations, to take urgent action to save our planet and protect it for generations to come. It is not an option to leave action to future generations. The imperative to act decisively is for today and for right now.

And this includes keeping our own small communities clean and habitable and assisting wherever there is need. Also, we must stop throwing garbage all over the place and polluting our land, sea and waterways.

Naturally, I have to relate these two essential themes to what is happening in our own neck of the woods these days. In Belize today are our leaders following the Golden Rule?

I think not when there are so many failures on the part of government to look out for the most needy and vulnerable in all our communities. We just witnessed in the past two weeks the workers of Belize Telemedia Ltd. having to take to the streets to make public their displeasure and pain. The company has been telling them to have patience and that salary increases and better working conditions are not possible at this time.

Yet, we hear of handsome remunerations for the top, top managers like the PM’s son, who reportedly is hauling in to his personal bank account perhaps over $20,000 each month. Did we also hear that monies paid to Brother Barrow and his family can be as much as $10 million, so much so that early and wealthy retirement is being taken? What about the sixty employees of First Carib-

09 9 bean Bank? The Golden Rule has been thrown out the door!!

Do we see the million dollar roundabouts being constructed, the squandering of Petrocaribe monies on parties and fiestas and partisan events? What about prudent investment not only in environmental protection, but also in programs that will benefit our poorest and neediest people in the long run? We need sound investment in job creation that will not exclude many; investment for economic and social reform for a better future for our children; investment for education and health infrastructure and meaningful services for Belizeans.

I do not think that we can go wrong if we follow Pope Francis’ Golden Rule and as well resolve that we will do all that we can to use an environmental preservation mantra to create desperately needed changes for the betterment of all Belizeans, in particular those among us who are in most need.

Pope Francis’ message of protection of all aspects of our environment, as well as referring to the Golden Rule in every single endeavor must resound in each person of faith. It must to resound in persons of no faith. But most importantly it has to resound in everyone who seeks to serve in the political sphere. I believe we have to listen to and heed these messages of Pope Francis, our twentyfirst century Pontiff.

Cayo Karate Clubs Shine at Central American tournament

Orange Walk Town, September 19, 2015 The Cayo Shotokan Karate Club (San Ignacio) won the most gold medals (21 total), while the Cayo Shotokan Karate Club (Belmopan) dojo won 20 in the 7th annual international invitational karate championships hosted by Cayo Shotokan as it celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio on Saturday.

45 karate athletes of all ages from Guatemala, El Salvador and Belize competed in form exercises, kata, and in individual combat, kumite. The Dangriga Shotokan Karate Club and the Belize City Centre Karate Dojo also represented Belize.

Politicians that would not even look your way for the past four years will now greet you by first name and stop long enough to listen to the smallest details of your every concern.

For the next month, our cities, towns and villages will be transformed into a circus of political flags, banners and colorful billboards. Young men who were idle and practically naked for the entire time of this government’s term in office will suddenly be busily engaged hanging signs and looking sharp in their brand new tee shirts bearing name and image of whichever politician gets to them first.

It is an amazing phenomenon to behold.

On Monday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced to the nation that he had advised the Governor General to dissolve parliament and set November 4th as the date for General Elections. It will be the fourth time that Belizeans will be going to the polls this year, hav-

Indeed we’ve got to be able to program the funds and in terms of capacity, there is just no way we can spend all that money in the next few months.” I guess he must have found a way to spend it all after all.

We know that the Petro Caribe money which has been holding this government afloat is coming to an end and the road ahead will be rocky. The recent events in neighboring Guatemala have also no doubt, given this administration jitters since the same type of corruption and abuse that brought that government down is prevalent with this crowd. Belizeans have not forgotten Pennergate nor Castrogate nor Gapigate. The much touted settlements with BEL and BTL did not go over as smoothly as hoped for and few Belizeans are happy with the high costs of reconciliation and in particular litigation. Some believe that one reason for the early call to the polls is because the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) might very well rule in Ashcroft’s favor, giving the British millionaire as much as ten times more money than the Prime Minister is reporting that he settled for. Remember, there is still a blank check that was issued.

So far, Barrow has been able to sweet talk himself out of many a pickle but it has to be obvious to all, that the jig is just about up.

His Excellency the Governor General has issued a Writ of Election for the holding of a General Election to be held on Wednesday 4th November 2015. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. Nominations for persons wishing to contest the election will be received on Friday, 16th October 2015 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the various Nomination Centers, Countrywide.

Section 57(1) of the Representation of the People Registration Rules states “The persons entitled to vote at the election of a divisional representative shall be those persons whose names appear on the register for that division as existing on the Nomination Day.” With nomination day being the 16th October, 2015 only persons who registered on or prior to 10th September 2015 are persons whose names appear on the register and are therefore eligible to vote in the General Election. This is in conformity with the time table mandated by the Representation of the People Act to ensure that the period guaranteed by law for making objections and the hearing of appeals by the Revising Officer is complied with. We need to lower the cost of education from pre-school to university; our people need proper housing; our people needs job; our policemen and B.D.F. soldiers need proper resources to protect our borders and combat the raging crime situation across the country especially in Belize City; and we need human resources and equipped offices to combat widespread corruption in many ministries of government.

We need a government that will address the needs of the people throughout the year instead of only a couple months before an election. Belizeans need good governance not election gimmicks.

UDP turmoil in Albert Traitor Mark Espat to replace Tracy Taeger Belize City, October 1, 2015 UDP sources are indicating that Tracy Taeger’s days are numbered as Standard Bearer in the Albert Division. THINK ABOUT IT THE PUP WILL WIN The People’s United Party will win the general elections. The people of Belize deserve better than what the UDP has been dishing out to them. Lies, deceit, incompetence and corruption have become the hallmark of the UDP government. When a government reaches that level it is time for it to go.

Matters of substance which are important to a nation have remained at the same low level for the past eight years of Mr. Barrow and his motley crew.

Take the issue of Guatemala. It is now clear that no serious thinking has taken place regarding how Belize could best protect its territorial integrity. It is almost as if some foreigner is suggesting how our government should conduct itself and our government is blindly following wrong advice.

Where has it gotten us? Barrow and Elrington in 2008 (the same year they won the elections) signed a secret compromi agreeing to go to the International Court. They refused to consult the people of the country. They were all gung ho to go to court. They did not even consider if that course of action was in our best interest.

Guatemala and Belize were to hold simultaneous referendums in October 2013. Guatemala politely ignored the agreement. Then Guatemala said she wanted to hold her referendum by herself. Belize agreed. It was to be in September 2015. Guatemala again took the UDP government for laughing stock.

But what is not a laughing matter is that Guatemala has seized the whole Sarstoon River and effectively taken over territorial waters belonging to Belize.

They are enforcing Guatemala law on the whole river and will soon be doing so the same in the seas outside Toledo.

Take the Petro Caribe monies. Belizeans have always struggled from year to year with limited funds from taxes which are never sufficient to finance the more important aspects of national development. For Belize to make substantial strides forward it needs to tackle poverty, education, health, agriculture, manufacturing and crime.

It is to the shame of Mr. Barrow and his government that poverty has increased to the shameful statistics of 46 percent of our population. With an additional 14 percent living in the margins of becoming poor. How could the government sit back these past 7 ½ years and allow this to happen?

How could the government fail so miserably in allowing thousands of young Belizeans to be deprived of a college and sixth form education?

The hospitals and healthcare for our people has reached world shame status.

Citizens have died in the hospitals. Innocent little babies have perished. The medicines are expired and no good and yet Belize’s most incompetent Health Minister remains in charge.

Belize’s agriculture and manufacturing base is dismal. It suffers from a lack of any concern by the government.

Since 2008 an average of 120 persons has been murdered in our country.

That is a total of 1000 persons having died senselessly. Nowhere does the utter and appalling incompetence of Mr. Barrow and his government been mani-

fested than the insecurity in our society.

There are serious side issues in the way the government has mismanaged our country. The rank nepotism and enrichment of family members says it all.

The UDP has taken the unions, the private sector, the public officers, the churches and the citizens for fools. The laws requiring accountability and transparency have never been followed. Millions of dollars are unaccounted for.

Millions have been wasted and millions stolen. Just like that.

Apart from taxpayers’ dollars, the Petro Caribe monies could have sent every child to college. Every farmer could have had land, seeds and access to ploughs and tractor.

Quality hospitals could have been ours. Instead, we are shown some streets and buildings and told three hundred million dollars have disappeared.

It is time for the UDP to be gone.

Better must come.

Belizeans deserve to live better.

HOW THEY STOLE MILLIONS Ever wondered how they stole millions of dollars?

Let us look at what happened in Belize City.

There is the National Stadium, where 30 million has been spent since 2008 and the place can’t finish as yet.

Look at Battlefield Park on Albert Street. Almost 2 million dollars was the bill for cement and an oven like material, grass and a pipe spurting water (not a fountain). There are less than ten benches and two small plycem structures.

There is Memorial Park. Almost 4 million dollars for some imported plycem shacks, twenty truckloads of sand to raise a portion of the ground and a stage.

Four million dollars wasted and stolen, just like that.

A park in Belama was done over.

No one knows how much millions went missing.

How are monies stolen and wasted?

Take Mayor Darrell’s streets and it becomes clear. Cement is dirt cheap in Guatemala. So is steel. These two items along with sand and water from Belize are used to make the streets. The Mayor says he has done 100 streets for twenty million dollars. There is no accounting for each individual street. How much for materials and how much for labor?

Not one single street has been properly accounted for. Incredible but true.

Minister Santino says government gave the Mayor an additional 20 million dollars. It is all gone. ALL GONE. No public explanation. No detailed audited accounts. No transparency.

Do a little arithmetic. Stadium 30 million. Battle Field Park 2 million. Memorial Park 4 million. Belama Park 2 million. BTL Park 6 million. To bruk down City Centre 1 ½ million. Some cement streets 20 million/plus another 20 million. Total 85 ½ million dollars.

85 million dollars!

316 million dollars from Petro Caribe monies are gone. And the government has a few buildings, Chetumal bridge and two round-a-bouts to show for it.

And 15 rats in the food pantry in Belmopan in April and a rat biting a baby in an incubator last month.

Wow!

OILY MEN In June last year, the international price of petrol started to fall dramatically. By early 2015 the drastic drop was heading for a fifty percent reduction. By June 2015 oil was selling for its cheapest ever.

In Belize the price of super is nearly ten dollars. Regular in nearly nine dollars. For over a year the government has been ripping off Belizeans.

The sad thing about deliberately keeping oil prices high is that it keeps the cost of living high. It keeps most people from having disposable income.

Every dollar is to pay bills. Food, water, light, cable, petrol and cell phone and no money left for improving our lives.

It is a worthless government that does this to its people.

WATER ON MARS The huge announcement has been the discovery of water on the planet Mars.

Scientists are careful to say that they are not certain it is liquid water just under the surface of the planet.

Their powerful telescopes on spacecrafts circling the planet are indicating what is probably liquid. But they are not sure.

If water is eventually discovered on the planet, there is a possibility some form of microbes was living or is living on the planet. Microbes are a primitive form of life. This would turn out to be the greatest discovery in the history of our existence on our planet earth.

A cartoon is showing that the big question- Is there intelligent life on Mars- was turned around to- is there intelligent life on Earth?

RUSSIAN WAR PLANES In a shock event to the USA and its European allies, Russian war planes attacked several targets in Syria. This is a major development in world affairs.

Russian, the second most powerful military country in the world has decided it has had enough of the USA, British, French, Germany and others meddling in countries which are supported by Russia.

The USA and some of its allies, under the guise of fighting ISIS and terrorists have been trying to bring down the government of Syria. So far, the war mongers have succeeded in attacking and occupying Iraq and Afghanistan. Then they bombed Gaddaffi out of power in Libya. They are also in the process of destroying South Sudan and Yemen.

For the past 4 ½ years a war against the government of Syria is going on. America has been training various groups to overthrow the Syrian government.

On Wednesday, 30 September 2015, the world became a more dangerous place. Russia unleashed a part of its war machine to help the government of Syria defeat its USA backed enemies.

Russia is back.

2015 We also support the decision of the Palestinian people that since Israel has repeatedly violated the 1993 Oslo Peace Agreement the Palestinians are now looking beyond that dead Treaty.

They want to be protected by the U.N against their occupation neighbor Israel which has shown no intention for the millions of Palestinians to become an independent nation.

All people deserve to be free.

We denounce the occupation of Palestine and believe that Israeli official presence in Belize should be terminated until they learn to act as Christians and threat their neighbors with justice.

THE PEOPLE ‘S POPE On Friday 25 September 2015, Pope Francis addressed a packed United Nations audience of world leaders.

He called on the world leaders and the International Community to renew every effort to tackle poverty and injustice. He called on the banks to reform in order to make the world a more equitable place.

He spoke out against abortion.

He spoke against homosexuality referring to the “moral law written in nature itself” insisting on the “natural difference between men and women”.

He condemned the unrestrained capitalism of the present economic order which is trampling upon the rights of the weak and the poor, and is destroying the environment.

The Pope also condemned “selfish and boundless thirst for power and material prosperity”.

We believe the Pope’s speech is important enough that it should be studied in our colleges and sixth forms.

RAT IN INCUBATOR No, it is not true that the Pope condemned the Prime Minister of Belize for his lust for power and material things.

Neither did His Holiness condemn Minister Pablo Marin for his utter slackness in causing a rat to enter an incubator and bite a baby.

If the Pope is informed of these things he would condemn them.

STONING SATAN Each year millions of pilgrims from all over the Muslim countries travel to Saudi Arabia to visit Mecca and other Holy sites in an effort to strengthen their faith in God, whom they call Allah.

During this pilgrimage or El Hajj, one of the rituals is the throwing of stones at a pillar which represents the Devil. In our Christian religion, the closest thing is the remembrance of Jesus telling the devil, “get behind me Satan”, during the 40 days and nights of fasting and prayer in the wilderness. We Christians mark the event with Lent.

In Belize, on 4 November, we have an opportunity to throw stones (our votes) at one of the devil’s disciples.

You know who it is. It is the one who never goes to Church. Has no place for God in his life. Is all for himself and his family and has condemned half of the Belizean people to poverty and a life with no future.

A STEP FORWARD We are glad the United Nations has approved Observer Status for the people of Palestine. The Palestinian flag now flies proudly at the U.N compound in New York.

Power to the People Tour in San Narciso Village, Corozal District - 5000 strong

Belize City, September 29, 2015 The People’s United Party is ready to work for a better Belize.

The blue machine has been moving in steady gear for the past months and is ready to rev things up with the announcement of early elections on November 4, 2015. PUP Leader Hon. Francis Fonseca has been leading the Power to the People tours countrywide and the formulation of progressive policy ideas that have kept the Party in touch with Belizeans across the country and in tune with their concerns.

Speaking to media houses on Monday afternoon, the Party Leader explained that the countrywide visits have “energized” the PUP base.

The tour has travelled to the Cayo District (San Ignacio Town), Toledo District (Big Falls Village), Stann Creek District (Hopkins Village), Belize District (Sandhill) and Corozal District (San Narciso Village) and has been attended by thousands of Belizeans who desire better for the country. In two weeks, on Sunday October 11th, the informative consultation tour will move in the Orange Walk Town.

Party will continue in the weeks leading to the elections.

“Over the next five weeks we will be travelling across the country. We will be holding public rallies in each district. We will be unveiling our policy papers on health, on economic reform, on governance reform... [and] we will be unveiling our manifesto,” said Hon. Francis.

The PUP’s message is about giving power back to the people, through much needed reform of the governance structure in our country. The PUP will appoint a 13 Senator, reinstitute the much needed Integrity Commission and allow the proper operation of the Public Accounts Committee to act as an adequate check and balance on public spending. The PUP will also remove the discretionary powers held by Ministers of Government, among other pledges.

“We believe the last eight years have been about the power of one man, Dean Barrow, running this country. Now it is time for the Belizean people to stand up and rise up and take back power from that one man,” urged Hon. Francis.

That one man has run Belize like his personal fiefdom. After the 2008 elections, his family was first in line for major

appointments. His ex-wife Lois Young Barrow was bestowed post after post – Social Security Board, BTL Board, BEL Board. After making a few millions from legal cases for the Government, she was named Ambassador to New York where she lives a lavish lifestyle at the expense of tax payers. Anwar Barrow was named King of BTL. Shyne Barrow, a once-popular rapper who was convicted on firearm charges and who was deported to Belize, was given the title of Music Ambassador over much-deserving Belizean artists.

Over the years, Barrow has ruled over Belize – having the only and final say over matters of grave importance.

Anyone who dares stand up to him will suffer the consequences. Those who don’t listen are discarded. Those who obey him, no matter how wrong their actions, like Edmond Castro and Elvin Penner are protected and given immunity.

November 4th is a day to free Belize’s democracy from the clutches of the Barrow Administration which has abused its power while in office and dragged the nation into an abyss of incompetence, corruption, nepotism, abuse and near economic collapse.
