Belize City, July 27, 2016 The scandal ridden government of Dean Barrow is stinking up the country. The good name of Belize is being dragged in the mud again and again. The latest scandal swirling around John Saldivar, both in his private and official capacities, has become too much for Belizeans to bear. If the Belmopan politician has any decency he would resign.

If the Prime Minister, the head-honcho of this stinking cesspool of corruption had any decency he would tell his Minister of insecurity to leave office now. But he cannot and will not. He himself still faces many unanswered questions over his secret deal with Michael Ashcroft costing half a billion dollars and plunging Belize into financial ruin and decades of stagnation.

This latest round of UDP dirtiness exploded on the scene following the 15th July 2016 discovery of a decapitated head in a vehicle.

That vehicle belonged to none other than the now notorious William Mason. Mason, who enjoyed full Ministerial and Police protection, refused to allow the Police to search him or his vehicle on Friday night. The BELIZE TIMES has confirmed that the search for Mason was triggered by the intervention of a foreign Embassy following a report that Mason had kidnapped a foreign Evangelical pastor along with Pastor Llewellyn Lucas.

July 26, 2016 In Pillar II of our Business Sustainability Agenda presented to all political leaders just before the 2015 general elections, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (“the BCCI”) called for measures to combat corruption and strengthen the rule of law. Those measures are more important than ever today, if we are to rebuild Belize’s economy and her reputation as a safe and stable country. Anticorruption laws, including campaign finance reform, must be implemented and applied visibly, impartially and indiscriminately from the top down and across the board.

Belize has to adopt international conventions and implement laws that instill transparency in all facets of the government. It is imperative that Government take charge of Belize’s current security crisis by aggressively implementing changes that will restore citizens’ sense of safety and change the international perception of engraved corruption and the lack of rule of law in Belize.

The decapitating of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas is the most heinous crime Belize has seen in recent history. The reported findings surrounding this case, including extortion and the ability to obtain a Belizean birth certificate illegally (or “outside of the normal process”)

POLICE BAFFLED AS MURDERS CONTINUE UNABATED Belize City, July 27, 2016 Murders continue to traumatize communities across the nation while the Government of Belize plays ostrich.

Rural Executive Division Police have no murderer and are searching for a motive to provide some clues in the brazen murder of a Hattieville resident who operated a club on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

On Friday, at around 10:30pm Nathan Underwood, 38, was shot multiple times to the back as he worked inside his kitchen at Nate’s Cool Spot located at Mile 21 in Gardenia in the Belize District. Investigations indicate that one person went around the rear of the establishment and fired at least 11 shells through a rear window. Underwood died instantly.

Police got the call shortly after, and arrived before 11:00pm. According to Inspector Juanito Cocom, Officer Commanding Ladyville, “they observed the lifeless body of a dark complexion male person lying down on the floor of the kitchen with multiple shot wounds to the back. He was later identified as Nathan Underwood, 38 years old, of a Hattieville address. Initial investigations reveal that he was alone in his kitchen when a lone gunman came from behind the building and fired several shots at him through the window causing the fatal injuries. The scene was visited, processed and eleven expended shells were recovered”.

Underwood had three children. No suspects have been detained and Police continue to investigate the murder.

Belize must do better. The survival of our economy demands better. The upholding of our rights as citizens not to become victims of violent crime demands better. It is our responsibility as Belizeans to put aside political loyalties and put Belize first. Belize’s current economic and internal security crises are not the result of one government, but of successive governments’ inability, unwillingness or lack of courage to address the fundamental issues of corruption and good governance. Now it is time for us to address the issues that affect our country in a collective, meaningful way and with a sense of urgency. The Government must give serious considerations to BCCI’s Business Sustainability Agenda. The Government must implement policies and enforce laws that will combat systemic corruption and enhance citizen safety, and the entire community must hold leaders accountable for their actions and inactions in implementing, upholding and enforcing such laws. PUP’S DEMAND FOR INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATOR MUST NOT BE IGNORED Belize City, July 26, 2016 Money makes friends and plenty money maketh powerful friends, just ask William Mason aka Rajesh Ouellette. He single-handedly was able to penetrate Belize’s toppa toppa – from Ministers to Junior Ministers to Senior Police officials to Pastors. Mason has been exposed as a con artist whose arrogance with how much power he had got him caught up in one of Belize’s most heinous criminal investigations: the beheading of Pastor Lue. Today there are more questions than answers surrounding the Mason affair like how could a conman con so many senior persons in little Belize? Like who were the Ministers playing the game trying to con a conman and who got conned in the end? Questions like how was he able to get a birth paper, a social security card, passport, bank account and bank visa card? Like how was he able to obtain his farm land? With whose money? How did he obtain land at Intelco Hill, a reserve area in Belmopan? But these are the peripheral questions. The real question is did he use his money and power to influence the Ministers in the UDP Cabinet and how?

The Opposition has called out Prime Minister Dean Barrow to not play games with the very serious investigation into the criminal investigations involving Mason and his toy UDP Ministers. The Opposition PUP has demanded that an independent body with foreign investigators be brought in to look into the full scale of wrongdoing. The Opposition also believes the Financial Intelligence Unit needs to do its job and follow the trails of dirty money moving from Mason’s hand to those of high-level UDP Ministers including Mr. Belmopan Bandit. Let there be no stones unturned and if the Prime Minister refuses, it will be up to a new PUP Government to get justice for Pastor Lue, his family and the people of Belize.

PUP Defends Cane Farmers!

July 27, 2016 The People’s United Party rejects and condemns ASR’s/BSI’s accusations being made against cane farmers indicating that the deterioration of molasses occurred as a result of farmers delivering poor quality sugar cane.

The PUP also views the decision and actions taken by ASR/BSI to charge the sugar cane farmer BZ $281,233.00 equivalent to 65% of the cost of molasses lost due to a Maillard reaction as unjust, unreasonable and outrageous.

The PUP reminds ASR/BSI that lower quality sugar cane has been milled in the past, in particular when BELCOGEN was commissioned in 2010 and the quality of sugar cane was at 12.73TCTS, the worst in the entire history of the industry; yet there was no occurrence of a Maillard reaction. This year’s quality stands at 9.8TCTS (better quality) hence ASR’s/BSI’s intention to cast blame on the cane farmers is viewed as being seriously deficient, baseless and lacking substance.

Furthermore, based on our technical and experienced sources, we confirmed that the Maillard reaction was as a direct result of ASR’s/BSI’s negligence and failure to follow standard procedures during the liquidation stage of the boiling house. Farmers are not to blame for the Maillard Reaction. The PUP further notes that this action is clear evidence of ASR’s/BSI’s continuous attempts to undermine the sugar cane farmer by creating an unfavourable and frustrating environment with the final objective being the elimination of thousands of cane farmers.

We hereby remind ASR/BSI that the agreement signed between the farmers and ASR/BSI clearly states that the sugar cane belongs to and is the full responsibility of ASR/BSI once it arrives at the scales. The unjust loss of $281,233 to cane farmers comes at a time when farmers are receiving one of the lowest prices in years, this is even though records show that the world price of sugar is at the highest in 20 years as a result of the drop in world-wide production.

The PUP hereby demands that ASR/BSI pay the hard working sugar cane farmers $281,233 for molasses lost due to ASR’s gross negligence.

In addition, the PUP calls on government and the Sugar Industry Control Board (SICB) to intervene and to ensure that the commercial agreement be honored and that cane farmers be treated fairly and with respect.

HISTORIC SWEARING IN FOR SAN PABLO VILLAGE COUNCIL

24 year old remanded for attempted murder Belize City, Monday. July 25, 2016 A twenty-four year old man was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this morning, after he was arraigned on charges of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm.

Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith explained to Raheem Marsden, 24, that he has the option of applying to the Supreme Court for bail, before she read the charges to him and told him that he does not need to enter a plea because his matter will be dealt with at the Supreme Court.

The charges against Marsden arose from a stabbing incident that occurred last Thursday, July 21, when Alfonso Castillo was stabbed during an altercation. The incident occurred through Rhaburn’s Alley, which is located off New Road, connecting with North Front Street. Castillo was stabbed twice.

The court prosecutor objected to the granting of bail to Marsden, and when Chief Magistrate Smith asked him why the court should grant him bail, Marsden replied that he was acting in self-defense.

Marsden explained that had he not defended himself, he may have been the one who got stabbed during the struggle with Castillo.

According to Castillo, Marsden pulled out a knife and stabbed him to the shoulder and to the abdomen following an argument between them.

The court prosecutor had objected to bail saying that while the offense of attempted murder was not with a firearm, the accused’s criminal history shows a pattern of violence. Marsden had been in Court on June 28th to answer to a wounding charge.

He submitted that if Marsden is granted bail at this time, he may commit another offense due to his violent history and or tendency to be violent.

After hearing what the prosecutor had to say about Marsden, who was unable to convince the court that he should be granted bail, Chief Magistrate Smith denied him bail and remanded him into custody until October 18, the date the court has set to give him disclosure of the prosecution’ evidence against him.

If Dah Noh Soh Fun and jokes aside. John Saldivar should resign as Minister of National Security. The situation with William Danny Mason Raj Ouellette Ramesh Ferguson has proven that the nastiness and filth and corruption goes way up high in the ranks of the Police Department and in Cabinet. Mark Flowers knows a lot more than he saying, but he’s still holding on to what he has because he intends to broker a deal with Prime Minister Dean Barrow when that fellow comes back to Belize. If that deal doesn’t work out, then that information will be used to keep him safe. Anything can happen in prison, especially to the former GSU man who made friends with high-up criminals but is hated by the criminals on the street. Don’t discount what Flowers is saying. He comes from the belly of both beasts. He knows. He’s just not ready for all of it to come out yet, which is smart for him.

Not Going Down Alone Just before he was arrested, Flowers told a friend that he knows his career is done. Nobody will be able to prove that he didn’t abuse that little child sexually. And if he does get off when the matter goes to Court, nobody will believe that his friends in government didn’t have a hand in it. Flowers has been a government lickey all his career, so he knows where all the skeletons in the Police and in politics are buried. But in the eyes of the public he is done, and government will never be able to keep him around because he is a liability. So the accused rapist is done. But hear this. He has said that no matter what, he is not going down alone. Flowers is borderline crazy, but he’s no fool. He says he has the goods on Saldivar and on other politicians, and we believe him. This wutless bunch of criminals in Cabinet will be made to pay the price for what they have done to Belizeans.

Bearing Gifts Prime Minister Dean Barrow comes back into the country on Friday and we hear that he will come bearing gifts. It won’t be the pretty little boxes with colorful red ribbon and lace that John-John likes so much though. Mr. Barrow, the fellow who misplaced his two-sided corruption machete right after he gave that wonderful speech, has said that he will listen to what Flowers has to say. And depending on what Flowers has to say, Mr. Barrow has indicated that he is prepared to accept the resignation of John-John Saldivar. Dismiss this if you like, but its gospel. Barrow has nothing to lose at this time. His three consecutive term legacy is complete.

Do you think he’ll allow somebody like John Saldivar to spoil that legacy? Think About it.

Dean’s Dilemma

If a man calls black black if it is seen on a small scale, but calls black white when it is seen on a large scale, then he is one who cannot tell black from white” -Sun Tzu, The Art of War Dean Barrow came to power in 2008 promising the Belizean people that he would not tolerate even the whiff of corruption. He promised that if any of his Ministers even remotely appeared to be corrupt heads would roll.

He tried very hard to give the Belizean people the impression that he was above reproach and that he would not under any circumstances tolerate corruption.

Regrettably when Dean Barrow said that heads would roll because of corruption, little did we know that it could mean “heads” would really roll. By now all of Belize knows of the tragic death of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas and his horrific beheading. Pastor Lue’s death was caused by deep corruption within the Barrow Administration. The alleged murderer was able to enter Belize, adopt a false identity, obtain a fake birth certificate, acquire property through questionable means, invest big cash in sports teams, pass himself off as an expert on everything and secure contracts with NEMO. He was shown the red carpet all the way to the Cabinet where he wined and dined and funded many, including the Minister of National Security and the Deputy Prime Minister. And he was able to do all this because of the corrupting influence of money! Cash money too!

True to form Dean Barrow reverted to his legal training in an attempt to bamboozle the Belizean people; to paint a picture that there is no corruption, “distasteful” behavior perhaps but oh no, not corruption! This is the same man who promised to deal harshly with corruption so he had to convince the Belizean people that what they were and are witnessing is not corruption. In 2008, upon taking office Dean Barrow said he would deal severely corruption. Today, despite all the evidence before us, Barrow refuses to accept that his Administration is corrupt and whether or not he intends to fix it. Using his own logic, and his sustained pattern of defending the behaviour of his Cabinet Minister as everything other than corrupt, we argue that he has no intention of fixing the problem because in his own mind the problem doesn’t exist. Why else would he seek to justify the harmful relationships between Mason and several high ranking members of his Cabinet? Why else would he say that the $10,000 gifted to Papa Mena was not an outrageous sum when ordinary Belizeans must jump through hoops to deposit that kind of cash into their accounts?

Though we are angry, we are not surprised because this is vintage Dean Barrow. It was the same Dean who explained away Penner’s corrupt violation of Belize’s sovereignty when he facilitated the granting of a Belizean passport to Won Hong

Kim. It was he who called Castro’s raiding of the Belize Airport Authority distasteful but not corrupt. And it was he who would later explained that Castro’s wholesale facilitation of more than 200 visas to Chinese nationals did not put him in the Alibaba category, even after he had previously said that 10 or 20 visas would have indicated a hustle.

The truth is that Dean Barrow cannot clamp down on corruption when he himself has acted outside the best interest of Belize. He secretly sat down with Ashcroft in a Miami hotel to give away more than $500 million of the people’s money for a company worth $100 million. It was he who without following the dictates of the Financial Orders granted, without tender, lucrative contracts for the provision of legal services to his immediate family, services that have costs the Belizean people millions of dollars. It was he who installed his unqualified son as the head of BTL. We believe that Dean Barrow has no intention of addressing the corruption that is plaguing his Administration. In February of 2008 he lied about enacting the unjust enrichment law and he lied about giving control of the Senate to the social partners.

He has refused to ensure that the Integrity Commission functions using a bogus argument that they cannot do so because no Accountant is willing to serve under the restrictive rules of the Commission. His appointments to the very important Financial Intelligence Unit have all been politically-based, first and foremost. His failure to deliver on these promises has created the environment for corruption to thrive.

The people of Belize are sure that it was corruption that led to the death of Pastor Lue but as sad as that is, the corruption of the Barrow Administration has had severe implications for the rest of us. Because of corruption we are paying more than $198 million in interest to Ashcroft for BTL. Because of corruption we can’t afford to recruit more security officers for the Coast Guard and in the process exposing or natural marine resources to theft by Guatemalans.

Because of corruption public officers and teachers will not receive their increases this year and because of corruption there is an “unofficial” freeze on new hiring in the public service.

Corruption by the Barrow Administration has us at the point where devaluation is real possibility. The reserves are down and we anticipate a spike in inflation followed by higher cost of living as basic goods become scarce. The sad reality is that Dean Barrow and his Cabinet will not be the ones to feel the consequences of their practices and if left unchecked by us all, they will continue to take us down the same disgusting and destructive path. This is what Belize has come to after eight years of “Dean is Clean” Barrow. Murder, kidnapping and extortion, all taking place under the nose of John Saldivar, Minister of National Security. The gruesome murder was swiftly followed by thousands of Belizeans taking to Facebook with comments and cries of shame against Dean Barrow. Photos and eye-see evidence of Barrow’s Ministers visiting the accused murderer Mason at his Belmopan mansion emerged. The exposé was too powerful to be ignored. Ministers crawled out of their holes to reveal a polished version of their connections to Mason.

John Saldivar was the first to blurt out that he received thousands of dollars from William Mason. He was quick to holler that the money was for his football team, ironically named the Belmopan Bandits. It turned out Saldivar had to later confess the amount was “in excess of fifty thousand dollars”. “In cash”.

Excuse us for asking, is this not a crime. Are these monies the proceeds of criminality? Were these large amounts of hundred dollar bills disclosed to the Financial Intelligence Unit? Was not this money laundering?

Was this huge so-called donation disclosed to the Integrity Commission as the law requires? Oops! Sorry, the Prime Minister has somehow managed not to appoint a Chairperson for the Commission, for years, so there is technically no likelihood of himself and his Ministers running afoul of the criminal sanctions.

Minister Papa Mena was the next to crawl out and tell the public he received ten thousand dollars for his “buy” election last March 2015. He confessed he would now return the monies. But, he wouldn’t be exactly returning it. Instead, he would open an account and use the money for some kind of unspecified charity work. Wow! How much did you get for the big November elections Mr. Mena? And while you are frightened by the sleeze unfolding around your dirty party, tell the brothers and sisters of Dangriga how much millions were directed your way from their monies from the Petro Caribe funds?

Patrick Faber, who confessed to abusing the Petro Caribe monies that belong to taxpayers, (remember his tacos and pibil jaunt in Corozal for his poor misguided supporters?) was next to own up to associating with accused murderer Mason.

Faber told the nation he was introduced to Mason by non-other than Minister of Security John Saldivar.

On the night Faber was made Deputy Prime Minister he mysteriously ended up at Mason’s Belmopan Mansion for, in his words, “congratulatory drinks”.

Godwin Hulse did make it up the hill. Not to fetch a pale of water or a bucket of cash; he only wanted “one lighthouse beer”. Although “I do not drink” said the self-righteous Minister who, ever the apologist for this corrupt government, said that the government had no Integrity Commission because “not one single accountant” in the whole of Belize wanted the prestigious position. Talk about lame and dishonest excuse.

This takes the cake.

Which now brings us to Superintendent Mark Flowers, Commander of the notorious Gang Suppression Unit, who was appointed to the post through none other than the Prime Minister of Belize. Flowers began singing like a canary when he returned to Belize from vacation and was slapped with a serious criminal charge. He revealed that his relationship with Minister Saldivar is similar to that of the gangs in Belize City, distrust and discord. Flowers told the Belize

media on Wednesday morning that Saldivar is not a good Minister. The startling allegation is that Saldivar received other very large sums of monies from con artist William Mason. Flowers further alleged that Saldivar had met Mason on other occasions and that Saldivar is not being forthcoming about his close ties to the criminal.

Flowers claimed that through undercover work on Mason, he concluded “that Danny Mason was not only a scam, but Danny Mason had the protection, in fact he had the way of scamming people provided to him by agents of government. I am talking about Cabinet Minister”.

Flowers, a die-hard UDP who continued to declare his love for Prime Minister Barrow, spoke like a man who had a dossier of dirty deeds. His revelations on Tuesday are just the tip of the iceberg, according to him.

Prime Minister Barrow, who left last Sunday to treat his chronic back pain, will return on Friday July 29th and the people of Belize will be waiting to see what he will do about big bad John. The ball is in your court PM.

HISTORIC SWEARING IN FOR SAN PABLO VILLAGE COUNCIL San Pablo Village, July 15, 2016 The new San Pablo Village Council was sworn in in a historic ceremony on Friday, July 15th, 2016, at 7:00 PM, at San Pablo Community Center at San Pablo Village. FROM GRACE TO GRASS Wednesday, July 27, 2016 Late Tuesday evening former head of the elite, US trained and funded, and some say instructed Gang Suppression Unit Mark Flowers was arraigned on two counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse. The offence is indictable so Flowers will have to seek bail at the Supreme Court level. In the meantime, the ex-boss of the GSU will sit in a prison cell just like any other common man accused of a heinous crime.

Flowers has been accused of raping a thirteen year old minor from Blackman Eddy in the Cayo District. Police are saying he did so on two separate occasions, once on January 1st 2016 and then again when he picked up the minor in his vehicle in March. The child is allegedly six months pregnant today. An investigation was carried out by Northside CIB last week before the decision was made to detain Flowers who then was still the active head of the GSU, although on holiday.

Highly-placed Police sources tell the BELIZE TIMES that an arrest warrant for Flowers was issued over the weekend when he had returned to the country from vacation. He was allegedly given the option of turning himself in to CIB personnel at the Queen Street Police Station first thing Monday morning. But up to Monday evening there was no sign of Flowers, and sources say he was then considered a fugitive from justice.

At around 2:30pm Tuesday Flowers, in the company of his attorney Dickie Bradley, turned himself in to CIB Queen Street and was processed before a charge sheet was prepared and he was hustled over to the Magistrate’s Court. Interestingly, Flowers was charged for two counts of Rape, but at around 4:30pm the decision was made to change the charge to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Flowers, for his part, has maintained that he had no contact with the minor and he is just a target in an elaborate plot orchestrated by Minister of National Security John Saldivar. Prior to his arrest, Flowers claimed that Saldivar had it in for him because of a Facebook post some months ago, featuring a picture in which Flowers was openly endorsing Patrick Faber in the race for Deputy Prime Minister.

Interestingly, Flowers has been more than just the Head of the GSU. He is known to have strong political ties to the United Democratic Party, and especially strong ties to Prime Minister Dean Barrow. Barrow is out of the country until Friday July 29th, so he has not commented on the fall from glory of the UDP’s golden cop.

Did Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega approve the corn importation permit which William Mason claimed he had gotten from senior Government officials?

DYING DIGNITY, DYING INTEGRITY! A Political Murder?

By Hilairé Bennett, Voice of the Common Man The recent incident involving Pastor Llewellyn Lucas’ macabre death has sent shockwaves within the Belizean society. It took such gruesome act to bring to the fore a gamut of criminal violations conducted over a lengthy period by the con-artist William Mason: kidnapping, extortion and suspected murder.

This shady individual of many names began to take root through politically connected, high-ranking members of the United Democratic Party.

The country’s Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, has admitted to accepting monies donated to his Belmopan Bandits Football Club; Minister of State Frank “Papa” Mena accepted finance of some $10,000 during the bye-election held in March 2016 in the South. The newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the UDP Patrick Faber cavorted in the company of the diabolic Mason at his Intelco Hills homestead in the City of Belmopan. What strange bed-fellows politics makes.

Upon the revelation that Pastor Lucas’ head was found in William Mason’s truck and that political affiliates of the UDP kept Mason’s company, the Prime Minister the Rt. Honorable Dean Barrow switched roles becoming once again a “pinch hitter” for his minions in his attempt to diminish their responsibility in the scheme of things.

Dean Barrow defended Elvin Penner during Pennergate and the Passport Scandal; and Edmond Castro during Castrogate and the illicit signing of Belize’s Airport Authority cheques to his friends and family.

Now Dean Barrow, in usual fashion, has dressed up in garb of high falutin verbosity declaring Mason was just a great con-artist and anyone could have been an innocent victim.

The glaring reality is that these “sorts of callous behaviour against better moral judgment” continue to happen under Dean Barrow’s leadership.

The administration of the Government has become a porous entity infected by insatiable corruption by the top echelons of the red party and greedy public servants.

Considering the fact that a South Korean criminal, Kim Won Hong, acquired a nationality certificate and a Belize passport was delivered to him while he sat in a Taiwan jail and now this Guyanese con-man William Mason was issued a Belize birth certificate speaks volumes to the issue of corrupt practices in two critical Government systems.

The Belizean populace must be mindful that in 2008 Dean Barrow promised to engage vigorously in the fight against corruption. This would have included the assistance of the international community in the investigating of money laundering and illegal acts committed by politicians and hav-

ing these individuals brought to justice for any and all breaches of the law.

“Words are like wind” Mr. Barrow, you have another ideal situation to honor those words. Evidence clearly reveals that high ranking members of your government received “fruits from a poisonous tree”.

These fruits bear serious international implications on the de-risking climate that is hovering over Belize. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) required the Belizean government and its financial institution to identify, assess and recognise cases of money laundering and acts relating to terrorism.

John Saldivar is a parliamentarian who has the capacity to vote on the enforcement of money laundering regulations.

To deviate from the notion that he is involved in any illegal money transaction, Saldivar has attempted to sell to the Belizean populace that William Mason is a legitimate businessman. Mason contributed “in excess of” $50,000 in cash to John Saldivar’s football organisation, Belmopan Bandits F.C. He received cash not cheque. The glaring reality is that a legitimate transaction would ensure a paper trail to these charitable tax deductibles. The movement of cash is the primary element to money laundering, hence the rationale for various laws regarding declaration of certain sums.

Could it be that William Mason was using both John Saldivar and Frank “Papa” Mena as conduits in a money laundering scheme? The trail of shady financial transactions across international borders begs the question: why wasn’t this Guyanese, Canadian, fake Belizean not red-lighted when the trail began? Considering the amounts of monies involved both the Income and Business Tax Department and the Financial Intelligence Unit should have been leading the charge on this matter. The individuals involved should be identified and thoroughly investigated and brought to justice if any law was breached.

In regards to Pastor Lucas’ death, the Belizean populace must demand the assurance from Prime Minister Dean Barrow that anyone involved in this brutal slaying regardless of political color shall be brought to justice.

Mr. Barrow, you must return the trust the Belizean citizens have bestowed upon you. Dean Oliver Barrow, you must return the dignity to the office you hold and you must strengthen that dignity with your own - Do The Right Thing! Only then Pastor Lucas’ death will not be in vain. Let this not be the sad case of John The Baptist where the King’s hands were tied by immorality. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 Police are preparing to arraign Josue Israel Ortiz, 19, for the murder of Bella Regina Williams, 34, in the early hours of Monday morning. Williams’ body was found just in front of her home in Las Flores at around 8:00am by her 12 year old daughter.

According to reports Williams, the mother of three, had gone across the street to the La Cabaña Club on Sunday night at around 9:00pm to hang out, something her family members say she did frequently.

Cordrington Carter Belize City, Friday July 22, 2016 A homeless Belize City senior citizen was sentenced to the Belize Central Prison where he will spend the next 5 years for entering and burglarizing the Mercy Kitchen.

60 year old Codrington Carter knew the Mercy Kitchen had food because it is a place where he has been getting meals from time to time for the past year or so. But on Wednesday, July 20, Carter went to Mercy Kitchen after the regular hours and helped himself to food without getting permission. Carter set off the alarm system which alerted police that someone had gained entry.

A family member told the media that “they heard some screaming but it’s always usual to us because we always hear screaming because she lives in front of a club so we would always hear shouting and we didn’t know it was her. That’s when they told us the details that it was her screaming and that’s all we know right now”.

The child screamed out and when the neighbors came out to see what was wrong, they called in the Police to investigate. Police have sent samples for further testing before a final determination can be made on the Police’s suspicions that Williams was raped.

Immediately after processing the scene, Belmopan Police commenced an intensive investigation and shortly after released the picture of the man they believe was last in the company of Williams. By Monday evening they had picked up Josue Israel Ortiz, 19.

While Ortiz was arraigned on Wednesday, the BELIZE TIMES is reliably informed that Belmopan Police are seeking one other person for questioning in the murder.

Carter had entered Mercy Kitchen, located at 1955 Mercy Lane in Belize City and damaged a pro-visual camera valued at $350, a T-home brand lock valued $31.50, a sofa, a mesh screen valued $25.00, which is property of Alexandrina Perdomo, the Manager of Mercy Kitchen.

Perdomo reported to police that around 4:00 p.m. on July 20 she locked up Mercy Kitchen and set the alarm. At 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, while at home, she received a call from security firm, KBH, alerting her that someone was breaking into the Mercy Kitchen.

Perdomo rushed over to Mercy Kitchen where she met the police along with a man they had detained. She identified the man as Carter, someone who has been frequenting Mercy Kitchen for a year.

Perdomo noticed that the intruder had caused damages and she requested court action, so police charged Carter with burglary.

In court, Carter said, “I was hungry and I gaan in there to eat some food.

When the officers came into the place, I was having curry chicken and a bowl of cool aid”.

“All I wanted to do was eat some food,” said Carter.

He begged the court to show him mercy.

But while she wanted to show some mercy, the Senior Magistrate, said that by law the offense of burglary carries a minimum of 5 years that could extend to as much as 10 years in prison.

The best she could do is to impose the minimum sentence of 5 years.

Carter was concerned about his medical condition and whether or not he will get the help he needs for it behind bars.

Magistrate Fraser assured him that there is a system in place at the prison that would assist him.

Margaret Drive. Two men, one dark-skinned and the other Hispanic, allegedly walked right into the house and straight up to Sylvestre, her daughter and son-in-law. At gunpoint the trio was ordered to lie on the floor where they were robbed of their personal belongings.

The two men seemed to know exactly what they wanted from the home, ordering Sylvestre to take them to the safe and open it.

From that safe they nabbed $50,000 in assorted jewelry, US$20,000 cash and other small electrical items

2016 including two Ipads. Satisfied with the heist which amounted to almost $100,000, the men then ran out of the home and down Princess Margaret Drive.

So why were the robbers able to gain such easy access to the home? The investigation showed that some construction work was being done, so one of the doors was open. Still, Police think the timing isn’t exactly coincidental. According to the Head of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, “the investigation is showing that yes they had some knowledge of what was in the house. Hence the reason that we have brought in several persons who were at the house and we are interviewing them at this moment”.

While the persons inside the home were unhurt, there is real concern from the community that they could be the next targets of the brazen robbers or others following their example.

The Police are aware of the concerns and in response newly appointed Officer Commanding Precinct 3, Supt. Hilberto Romero explained that “as it relates to other residences in the area, we will re-strategize our patrols in that general area and certainly the Police presence will be beefed up in that area to prevent any reoccurrence”.

Police have recovered one phone in the area of the Marion Jones Complex and are conducting searches in an attempt to close the case.

UDP Ministers in another Corruption Scandal

By Gilroy Usher, Sr. The huge corruption scandal involving several top UDP Ministers, millionaire and international swindler William Mason, and the beheading of Pastor Llewlyn Lucas again shows that we are dealing with one of the most corrupt governments in Belize.

Mason was very close with Police Minister John Saldivar, UDP Deputy Party Leader Patrick Faber, Minister of State Frank “Papa” Mena, Mark Flowers, who was then head of the Gang Suppression Unit, and a number of senior police officers among others, and he gave many of those persons thousands of dollars.

Mason was involved in extortion, kidnapping, and a wide range of other illegal activities.

Mason wined and dined many influential persons in Belize at his mansion on Intelco Hill in Belmopan for over two years. Both Police Minister John Saldivar and Junior Minister “Papa” Mena have admitted that they received lots of cash from him.

“Papa” Mena said that in 2015 he received $10,000 from the gangster on Intelco Hill for his by-election campaign in Dangriga. If small fry Mena received so much cash from Mason, you can imagine how much money powerful Ministers like John Saldivar and some others received from the swindler.

Following Patrick Faber held a party for his official Deputy Prime Minster swearing in in Belmopan at Mason’s mansion up the hill. Even Minister Hulse, the self-declared saint, was there. Mason was that big. Nobody sponsors expensive victory party for politicians free or give them lots of cash free. Life is real.

Nothing is free brethren.

For months before that particular victory party was held up the hill, all complaints of wrongdoings against Mason were brushed aside by the police, including a statement from a Mennonite that he had been extorted by the international swindler.

Even with a statement of such serious allegation the police, which is under Minister John Saldivar, did absolutely no follow-up with that or any of the many other complaints against Mason until Pastor Lucas was beheaded. The lame excuse of the police for failing to do their job is that Mason was difficult to locate, and it was too risky for them to enter his property. Total nonsense. After serious complaints were made to the police about Mason, local TV news showed the same William Mason as the main spokesperson at a press conference of the Belize City Council on Hurricane Preparedness. Additionally, pictures now show GSU’s Mark Flowers with his hand on Mason’s shoulder at Mason’s mansion in the capital city. No police wanted to find

Mason. The swindler even got a fake birth paper which says he was born in Crooked Tree. To add insult to injury despite all the stringent procedures in place for a gun license, Mason got a gun license easily without the proper documents.

Minister Saldivar said that he learned that Mason was not clean from September last year. Since the Minister of Police was aware of that information from then, why didn’t he inform the Prime Minister and his other Cabinet colleagues about such damming information before the pastor

was murdered in such a vicious way, and why didn’t the police even question Mason about any of those serious allegations? Minister Saldivar and Ma-

2016 son had a business relationship for some time, and Saldivar appears to have been the main contact person to see him.

At the end of the day the murder charge against Mason and his associates in crime will most likely fall apart. That will most likely occur because the Ministers and Police officers, who have been receiving bundles of cash for political campaigns and other things from Mason will possibly do everything to undermine the investigation. Those corrupt UDP Ministers and police officers will engage in those dirty tricks to protect Mason and their own skin just as they did with the corruption scandals involving Penner, Castro, Vega, and several other UDP Ministers.

In any other democratic country, the Minister of Police would be dismissed for having a long cozy relationship with an international swindler, who gave him thousands of dollars.

Similarly in any other democratic the top cop responsible would also be dismissed for inaction when serious complaints are given at the station against someone. Following Minister’s orders is no excuse for dereliction of duty by anyone.

Why do we keep tolerating corruption in Belize? Why? Why? Why? Why?

GOVERNMENT OF BELIZE MINISTRY OF WORKS, TRANSPORT AND NEMO

ROTTEN DEAL

All those ads trying to convince you that paying more than half a billion dollars for an outdated, mismanaged company was an amazingly good thing? Well you know who’s paying for those ads which by now have added up to a couple hundred thousand dollars?

WE ARE. It’s not a private company funding this ad campaign from its own resources, it’s the Government of Belize using more of our taxpayer dollars to convince us that putting us in debt, by more than half a billion dollars, is something we should be extremely happy about.

It’s crazy, and disheartening.

Seriously! You know how when the Council is doing work on the streets, and we are doing work on a lot of streets, there is a sign which says your tax dollars at work. Well, this government isn’t using our tax dollars for work. It is using our tax dollars for foolishness. And using our tax dollars like there’s no tomorrow.

And when they use our tax dollars irresponsibly and foolishly you know who suffers? It’s not Mr. Barrow, his family and friends. It’s not the UDP fat cats and their friends who have made plenty at the public trough.

WE ARE THE ONES WHO SUFFER. The regular, common Belizean who has to work long hours to make ends meet. The regular common Belizean who has to fork over a chunk of a small paycheck to the Income Tax Department so that this government can use it for damned foolish ads and political games.

We should all be angry. We are supposed to be confident that when we pay our taxes they will be used to better our lives. They are supposed to be used for infrastructure, and for social programs, for education and for better health service for all. But I’m not happy knowing my tax dollars are being used for fool-

ishness – not happy at all.

A huge chunk of our tax dollars were just used to pay a billionaire $200M. You know why? Because the Prime Minister of this country called this billionaire a white devil, and then sat down at a cozy private table with him in Miami and made a secret deal with him. The billionaire made many more millions off that deal. Mr. Barrow’s law firm made a lot of money from legal fees from that secret deal.

AND WE END UP PAYING. How is that fair?

At every step of the way the Barrows have made plenty. Seven years of litigation handled by Mr. Barrow’s brother and law partner. All Barrow’s people placed in BTL. Barrow’s son making HUGE money as the boss of BTL. HUGE money. AND WE END UP PAYING. How is that fair?

My friends, how have we, as a people, benefitted from paying HALF A BILLION DOLLARS for BTL? We were told that BTL was owned by an oppressor, a ruthless white devil, and now it would belong to us. BUT it never belonged to us. It seemed we simply exchanged one oppressor for another, a white devil for a black devil, so to speak.

BTL has been raped and pillaged and plundered. The real truth is that the company is going down the drain. Do you realize that the company cannot even get its act together where provision of data is concerned? They can’t even get their 4G LTE network up and running. Their service is the worst it has ever been. It’s the truth.

We as a people need to take stock of where we are and get real. It’s not all about politics.

This is about reality. OUR REALITY. And our reality is pretty bad right now and looking to get much worse.

Think about it.

FIFTH ROAD (PHILLIP S.W. GOLDSON HIGHWAY UPGRADING) PROJECT

INVITATION FOR PRE-QUALIFICATION OF CONTRACTORS The Government of Belize (GOB) has received a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (the “Bank”) in an amount equivalent to US$29,830,0001 towards the cost of the Fifth Road (Phillip S.W. Goldson Highway Upgrading) Project, and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this loan to eligible payments under these contracts. Payment by CDB, will be made only at the request of GOB and upon approval by CDB, and will be subject, in all respects, to the terms and conditions of the Loan Agreement. The Loan Agreement prohibits a withdrawal from the Loan Account for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment or import, to the knowledge of CDB, is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. No party other than GOB shall derive any rights from the Loan Agreement or have any claim to the proceeds of the Loan.

This Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Works, Transport and NEMO (MWTN), Project Execution Unit (PEU). A Project Coordinator within PEU is responsible for the day-to-day management of project activities. Engineering Consultants are retained by MWTN to assist with the supervision of the contract.

MWTN (hereinafter referred to as “the Employer”) intends to pre-qualify contractors for the following works under this project: - Section B - Haulover Bridge to Buttonwood Bay Boulevard Roundabout (4.46km) It is expected that Invitations to Bid will be issued during the fourth quarter of 2016.

The requirements for pre-qualification will include: (a) an average annual turnover (defined as billing for works in progress and completed) over the last three years of United States Dollars (US$) 6.0 million equivalent for civil works; (b) demonstrable cash flow (including access to credit) of US$750,000 equivalent; (c) experience as prime contractor in the construction of at least one assignment of a nature and complexity comparable to the proposed project activity within the last five years with a value of at least US$5.0M (to comply with this requirement, works quoted should be at least 80 percent complete).

The similarity shall be based on the physical size, complexity, methods/technology or other characteristics as described in Section VI, Scope of Works. (d) Project Manager with eight years experience, five of which have been spent in works of an equivalent nature and scope, including not less than five as a Project Manager. (e) Contractors that prequalified for Section A in 2014 shall only update their financial data unless any other information requires updating.

STOP CHANCE PEOPLE!!

I feel very strongly about the abuse of office, especially by persons who are sworn to serve and to protect members of the public. And I surely hope that this point is not lost amidst the huge noise and outcries after the bizarre and gruesome murder of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas. It can be no exaggeration for the Belizean people to feel that the government and police authorities have blood on their hands. Many people from all sectors have weighed in, particularly Pastor Louis Wade, and he has been fearless in stating that police information has not been accurate. He has stated in no uncertain terms that the Mennonite couple were kidnapped. There was no ‘attempted’ kidnapping, and a formal and comprehensive report was indeed made to the police of this kidnapping.

But let me not digress, my point being abuse of office by high officials, more specifically the head of the Gang Suppression Unit, Mark Flowers. There have been various reports of his “chancing” many people in the execution of his duties, and since he has tied his flag firmly to the UDP government flagpole and made it clear that he acts at their behest, it is very fair to observe that he is not carrying out his duties in an impartial and dispassionate way. In other words we can say that he is compromised in the execution of his work.

It only adds fuel to fire, also, that he has been shown in a photo hugging up in a warm and friendly embrace with the infamous Danny Mason a.k.a. many other aliases, con-man extraordinaire and now accused kidnapping mastermind and accused murderer. This is truly a sordid chapter that is unfolding before tens of thousands of shocked and outraged Belizeans.

About a year or more ago, I was driving home one evening on the Philip Goldson Highway. The huge line of traffic was backed up for miles, and it was almost dark. There was a checkpoint just before Mile 5, and it was being conducted by the Gang Suppression Unit. Hundreds of buses

and cars full of commuters trying to go home were waiting for close to forty-five minutes or an hour. When I approached the checkpoint, I paused to ask the officer what was the reason for such an inordinate delay. I was thinking of the many people trying to go home. Perhaps many persons, women in particular, needed to go to the bathroom. He was answering respectfully, when someone banged loudly and disrespectfully on the right side bonnet of my vehicle, shouting “Let’s go, Let’s go, Get going,” in an aggressive and belligerent way. I was able to notice that it was Mark Flowers.

I moved along quickly, but I feel that his behavior was rude, high-handed and uncalled-for.

Of course, if reports are correct, Mark Flowers has done much worse, and to many people. This latest report about his alleged sexual abuse of a thirteen year old girl calls out for swift and decisive action by the police. UDP Channel 7, in their usual “muddy the waters” way, has reported that someone else allegedly abused the same girl and that the alleged offences took place in both the Cayo and Belize Districts.

I say “matters be.” The police need to do their work without fear or favor. There must be no special treatment of Mark Flowers!! The 12:30 pm Love FM news on Thursday quoted Assistant Commissioner Blackett as saying that if there is “substantial proof” the police will move against Mark Flowers. That is all wrong and completely unacceptable. Mark Flowers must NOT be held to a different standard, nor must he be treated with kid gloves.

If a credible report of unlawful sexual intercourse has been made against him, charges should follow right away. Having substantial proof is a matter for the Court at trial. In order to convict someone of rape or carnal knowledge proof beyond reasonable doubt is required. The police must not in any way seek to protect one of their own. To conclude, I say again that the abuse of office by officials who should be serving and protecting has to be deplored vehemently. To Mark Flowers and to all others who are engaged in abusive conduct the word is a firm and unequivocal “Stop Chance People !!” I say so.

This fire is burning out of control and has engulfed the nation in a state of fear, apprehension and suspicion. In an interview aired on Tuesday night, Mark Flowers made comments which completely contradicted earlier statements given by his boss, the Minister of National Security John Saldivar. Saldivar’s name has been regularly called in a very disturbing chain of events which involves kidnapping, extortion and murder.

At the centre of the controversy is a supposedly master conman named Raj Ouellette, who hails originally from Guyana. Ouellette it seems arrived in Belize quite mysteriously a few years ago but since then, has been able to wiggle himself into some very prominent circles.

The man who also goes by the names of William Mason, Danny Mason, Ted Ouellette and a host of other pseudonyms was able to establish himself as a legitimate businessman and become a major contributor to the United Democratic Party. Along the way, Mason was able to acquire a Belizean birth certificate which shows him born in Crooked Tree. He was also able to acquire several gun licenses, a sprawling estate in rural Belize and a mansion that sits atop an archaeological site outside of Belmo-

THE BELIZE TIMES ference began however, it was obvious that the only thing on everyone’s mind was this beheading and “matters connected therewith and incidental thereto”. Interestingly enough, no plans to replace Mark Flowers were announced.

At the press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police Russell Blackett admitted that the discovery of the head was purely coincidental. According to Blackett, they were investigating Mason in connection with another very serious crime of which we the general public had no knowledge. That crime, to which he referred as an “attempted kidnapping”, turned out to be anything but, as information reveals that Mennonite farmer Lloyd Friesen and his wife were in fact abducted, tied up and threatened.

According to reports, Friesen had struck a deal with Mason, who had been introduced to him by a trusted Minister of government, to import corn from Guyana. The corn would cost $300,000 and trusting Mason, Friesen paid half of the money up front. When Mason did not deliver, Friesen visited Mason to recover his deposit but was instead tied up and informed that not only would he not get back his money but that he would have to pay a “protection fee”

At a prescheduled press conference on Monday July 18th, the Police revealed information which seems to have led to more questions than answers. The press conference was initially called to announce new plans to beef up the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) and reveal new strategies for addressing the increasing crime in Belize City. THE WONDEROR AND THE PRICE OF SUGAR

The sugar cane industry has a long history in Belize. The Mestizo first in the north, then the British and then the Confederates after they abandoned USA after losing the civil war. The confederates were used to slavery so they were very successful while in the USA. Who wouldn’t? They came to British Honduras with money and knowledge. Several of them purchased several huge chunks of land around Belize to grow cane and do other farming. They were unsuccessful because they had to pay for labor as slavery had been abolished by their mother country. They were the ones who actually introduced indentured labor in Belize, but they still failed in their cane farming operations.

They were only used to slavery.

They eventually packed and left.

Young PUP stalwarts from the North assisted in developing the cane industry. First Libertad at Pembroke Hall, then Tower Hill at Orange Walk. The PUP caudillo (Mr. PRICE) was the one who nationalized the cane industry and gave all the farm lands to the “Norteños”. The photos below are our history, the history of the Mestizos of the north, carved by the PUP. Great history!

It was a pity the cane farmers wanted nothing to do with the milling operations, they were interested only in farming and owning the land. That was their mistake because Price was offering it to them. BSI was formed and then years later because of mismanagement it was placed to the highest bidder. There were many possibilities. There was one where the farmers could have borrowed money and owned it, but Barrow preferred his buddies from ASR to own it.

From the beginning of the takeover I wandered around the internet and investigated ASR. I also wondered and wondered and came to the conclusion that ASR’s long term goal is to take over all

the lands from the Norteños eventually. They will frustrate the cañeros and eventually takeover all their land and dominate the cane industry as they do elsewhere around the world. This is what ASR wants to do in the North. It’s a long term plan but they always get what they want, especially with the help of this present corrupt government!

The major shareholders in ASR are the Fanjul brothers, Rich Cubans who migrated to Florida with Daddy and Mommy after Fidel took over. They now own a sugar empire including Domino Sugar, Florida Crystals (now ASR), C&H Sugar, Redpath Sugar, Tate & Lyle Sugar, Lyle’s Golden Syrup, Sidul, Zing Stevia, banks, resorts, casinos, airport, securities...etc. They influence the US government. One brother is Democratic and the other is Republican. They always win. They are already winning here in Belize, by influencing the UDP. Wonder how?

These people believe in control of governments. They abused the Haitians at their cane fields in the Dominican Republic. Look below and see the working and living conditions of the Haitian cane cutters and families at the “bateys”. They own one of the five largest sugar companies in the Dominican Republic, along with La Romana International Airport and one of the largest resorts “Casa de Campo”. Here they exploit the poor Haitians working for little or no pay, no water, no sanitation, no electricity, no education... etc. In their cane fields they even have armed Security on horses to make sure the workers remain on the fields for 16 hours a day. Do we want this in Belize! Do we want to

go back to what the USA Confederates wanted to do with us? The PUP gave us land, work and liberty. The UDP want us to lose it all! Belizeans please google the Fanjules or Punch in “YouTube - The price of Sugar”.

ASR has already helped to disband the largest association.

The cane price they want which will always be below what they can produce cane meaningfully. Eventually the cane farmers will be disenchanted and ASR would offer to buy all cane lands from every cañero. Look at the newspapers this week, last week and see how much Belizeans are losing their properties. Eventually they will own everything and the cane farmers will be workers of ASR. Is that what we want! That is what UDP want but not us the Norteños! The US buys the sugar produced in the Dominican Republic at 3 to 4 times the world market price even though they know that the sugar cane planted there is fertilized with blood of the Haitians.... the sugar is then taken to Florida for refining and for the American market. Do we want our cane fields to have the Blood of our Belizean Brothers? The cane in the republic is treated better than the people who harvest it! It’s coming here.

The ownership of the cane bagasse and energy plant was never solved to the interest of both parties. ASR won, blessed by Barrow.

Today now it’s molasses. They are refusing to pay the cañeros because they claim it’s their fault. That’s how the Fanjules operate. A great concern of mine is the contamination which this 3,900 tons of damaged molasses due to Maillards Reaction will cause. BOD5 or Biological

Oxygen Demand is the most widely used parameter of organic pollution. This determination involves the measurement of the dissolved oxygen used by microorganisms in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter. The average BOD5 for molasses is about 900,000 mg/L. The average BOD5 for wastewater coming out from our homes is about 350 mg/L. This means that the strength of pollution of the molasses is about 2,500 times stronger than our wastewater from our homes.

The present effluents coming out normally from the sugar processing would have about 3,000 mg/L BOD5. The company sometimes can’t even handle this which is 300 times weaker than the molasses. So you wonder why there is a lot of fish kills in the new river.

It’s due to milling contamination that the company cannot manage from time to time. How will they handle almost 4,000 tons of molasses….Dig a hole and bury it? DOE and ASR better be careful, because if you do that you will regret it in the future. Your existing treatment ponds can’t handle that capacity. So you better think.

What’s funny is that the ASR staff are saying that DOE is advising them on what to do…that is not DOE’s job…they don’t even have people with the capacity to determine that action. ASR must find solutions provided by capable scientists before a decision is taken.

DOE must also contact other organizations that can assist them.

We are not taking this possible contamination seriously and how it can affect us Belizeans! ASR is known for contamination in the Florida Everglades. In 1994 it cost the Florida authorities about 1.8 billion USA dollars to do cleanup caused by the cane industry. The Fanjules owned about 40% of the cane industry in Florida, the cane industry pledged 300 million for the cleanup. BSI has had a long history of contamination also.

Now it’s BSI/ASR. Belize is probably the only country where small, medium and large cane farmers still exist.

Superintendent Mark Flowers is this week in jail and Minister of Police John Saldivar may be facing an F.B.I investigation, if he is not already the subject of U.S Embassy investigators. After Mark Flowers, a die-hard UDP, handpicked to be in charge of the Gang Suppression Unit, released his information against Minister Saldivar, the people of Belize got a further insight into how these high and mighty politicians are conducting themselves.

Minister Saldivar has acknowledged that he took in excess of fifty thousand dollars from William Mason, now in prison on a charge of conspiracy to kidnapping and murder. A gruesome, horrible murder in which a man’s head was severed from his body. Mason was driving around with the head when Police caught him. The body was burnt at Mason’ farm.

Mason, according to Mark Flowers, had given Minister Saldivar over one hundred thousand dollars to be his partner in owning the Minister’s football team. As Minister of National Security, how could Saldivar have failed to request a background check into a character who could dish out fifty or one hundred thousand dollars, in cash.

What kind of security apparatus is in charge of securing and protecting our country and its people? Look how many F.B.I. most wanted have been turning up all over the place in Belize.

How could Mason be rubbing shoulders with Ministers and be in bed with two or three of them and there is no background check regarding security?

The more we see, the more we hear and the more we get to know, we realize how vulnerable and how poorly we are governed.

The saga of Mark Flowers versus John Saldivar may have just begun.

WHERE IS THE COMMISSIONER? Where is the Commissioner of Police?

Why is he not back at his desk in this time of crisis in his Ministry and in his Department?

Do Belizeans know that the Police Commissioner is on vacation leave until the middle of August?

Do Belizeans know that Russel Blackett who is holding over as Police Commissioner has been legally retired over two years ago?

The laws governing public officers states that it is unlawful to by-pass whoever is next in line and go back for a retired officer to “hold-over” as the nation’s top cop?

On a similar note, a public officer, who our sources say was very helpful to Minister Saldivar when that officer was at the Public Service Ministry, has long since retired and the Minister has him as the head of personnel affairs at the Police Department. have gotten a loan of three hundred thousand dollars to replace manhole on sidewalk.

This money comes from the Social Security monies. It is more than likely an illegal use of Social Security monies. The law allows for S.S.B to invest in very sound projects which will bring in a handsome profit.

Outright use of the S.S.B monies to a City Council is illegal.

It is also immoral. City Council borrowed twenty-million dollars to build streets. City Council got another twenty million dollars for some suspect projects in the city. The City Council is yet to provide full accounting and transparency for these many millions which have long since evaporated.

What is worse, the City Council is bloated and top heavy with staff who are mostly UDP cronies and hang-ons. There is also the scandalous situation where the Mayor works as the full-time lawyer and part time Mayor but pays himself as a full time Mayor.

He also does the same for all the City Councillors. None of them are full time employees, but are all getting huge full time salaries.

BIG GUNS AT BURIAL GROUND The funeral for slain “gang” youth Kent Brooks was held at the mile 13 burial ground several days ago. It ended hastily and in chaos.

At the funeral, a van rode into the compound and out jumped known members of the George Street gang. They were fully strapped, not just pistols, big guns and automatic machine guns. Pandemonium.

A group fleeing the scene said that on arriving in Belize City they saw a pickup of GSU racing up the Western road. No doubt too late.

How could there not have been any security surveillance of that funeral?

PEPSI IN BELIZE Pepsi Cola arrived unannounced in Belize. More sugar, more diabetes. More competition for Coca-Cola and Bowen.

Bowen & Bowen has their Belikin logo on the UDP TV station which broadcasts the worst show in the morning. The show is low-grade, scandal mongering of the worst kind. Anyone who is not a UDP is belittled and scandalized. Bowen & Bowen as a responsible corporate entity is dishonouring the great Barry Bowen by being associated with character assassinations and slimy personality attacks.

Bowen may want to assist in improving public discourse by promoting some sensible, educational program.

We urge Belizeans to drink only local products and fight against the increasing entry of foreign foods and beverages into our economy and diet.

PRAY POWER Every Belizean watching the daily TV news knows that the devil is let loose in our country.

The power of prayers was at work for the past few days. Evangelical prayers that is. The traditional churches have kept away from the sins of today and are talking old testament while Pastor Wade, Pastor Stirm and many others confronting the wicked upfront.

Battlefield Park was the scene of gathering under the two big banners-Righteousness Exalts a Nation, but sin is a reproach to God. The gathering was praying for the mighty hand of God to move this nation in the right direction. The Evangelical were particularly and specifically concerned with a pending decision in the Supreme Court in which gay activist Caleb Orozco is challenging the sodomy laws of Belize. Orosco has huge support in high places, including the US Embassy, the Prime Minister, the Police Minister, the Education Minister, and the Mayor of Belize City and a host of others.

There may be bad news for Orozco et al as the Caribbean Court of Justice turned down homosexual activist Morris Tomlinson who was challenging Belize’s Immigration law that forbids homosexuals from entering Belize.

The Supreme Court of India also declined to interfere with India’s sodomy laws which are similar to Belize’s.

The U.S Supreme Court has ruled that gays, and possible transgender persons, can marry and are entitled to the equal treatment like other human beings.

COASTGUARD-NO MONEY The prestigious Coastguards, which are part of the U.S Military machine in the region and are more focused on fighting America’s losing drug war than on protecting Belize’s fishing and marine products, received a set-back this week.

The UDP government which is sinking in a cesspool of corruption and incompetence and is seriously short of money had to announce that it cannot finance the new recruits. Recruitment, already at the interview stage, has been put on hold.

An embarrassed Minister of National Security told the nation two days ago that there was no money and the whole recruitment process is on hold.

This is the same Minister who allowed Guatemalans to construct Belize’s military base at Hunting Caye, until Wil Maheia and Mose Hyde exposed this most treasonous venture.

MAYA MONEY GONE The Maya of Belize are under attack by the Prime Minister of Belize. It is about land and oil. The government has promised big oil companies they will be allowed to dig for oil in lands which belong to the Maya.

The Maya have rights over their lands.

This historic ruling was first laid down by former Chief Justice Abdulai Contech and upheld by the Caribbean Court of Justice.

It was a huge defeat for the Prime Minister and possible oil clients at equity house.

But oil represents millions and the Maya represent a nuisance to the government. So Maya rights and the protection of their land is not being honoured by the government.

In an error of judgement the Maya leaders, wanting to show good faith agreed to a Consent Order with the government over one of their cases and the Caribbean Court. The government has no intention of honouring the Agreement.

Out of sheer disappointment the government appointed a former unpopular Minister of their government to head a Commission set up under the aegis of the Court. Three hundred thousand dollars was budgeted to start a serious consultation and way forward for the Maya.

No Maya or genuine Maya approved representative is on the commission.

A few weeks ago, the Maya leaders found out that the former Minister spent all the money on salaries, vehicle, furniture and so forth.

2016 Three hundred thousand dollars gone and the Maya Village got not one single red cent.

The government did it deliberately.

Spiteful.

BLACK PEOPLE MATTER In the U.S.A black Americans earn less than half of the national wages and salaries. Black infant mortality is twice that of white infants. Black household wealth is 13 times smaller than that of white households.

Thirty eight (38%) percent of America’s prison population are black Americans compared with thirteen (13) percent of the whole rest of the American population.

Are those brothers and sisters in America sure they were freed from slavery?

Sound like they still in economic slavery.

Back home here in the land of the free by the Carib sea, we need to see some statistics.

SLAVERY IN BELIZE Slavery in Belize will get little attention on Monday 1st August.

In 1838 on 1st August, slavery in Belize was abolished.

Some successful Belizeans like Dean Barrow, Colville Young, Rodwell Williams, Michael Young and many others like them are ashamed of the black heritage. They celebrate the Battle of St. George’s Caye which is a white man/Baymen myth. For this reason, every year the Emancipation of our forefathers and great-grandmothers from slavery get no attention.

Big up Emancipation Day. A people without their history is like a tree without roots.

LINDSAY BELISLE Lindsay Belisle is a career public officer and professional surveyor who reached the highest level in his area in the Ministry of Lands/Natural Resources.

Recently Lindsay has been on radio and television shows in his professional capacity as an expert on mapping.

Lindsay has been sharing his professional views on the Sarstoon saga and the I.C.J. He does not support going to the I.C.J. Let it be said Lindsay is not a PUP. He is a strong supporter and personal friend of Dean Barrow from way back.

It is rare for a UDP to speak from his or her conscience.

As such, much respect is due to Mr. Belisle.

A HUNGRY MAN A hungry man could not wait and so he broke into the Mercy Kitchen. It triggered the alarm. Police came and took him away and charged him for burglary, a serious offence.

The hungry man told the Magistrate he was very hungry and he ate a piece of curry chicken. Under the law, burglary must be dealt with imprisonment. It’s one of the many harsh laws Dean Barrow and his Belmopan Bandits have passed against poor people.

The Magistrate had no choice but to impose five years in jail. We call on the Chief Justice to review the sentence and reduce some.

Blood suckers who are getting rich off doing illegal work for the UDP government should search their conscience and enter an appeal and challenge the mandatory sentence.

Azueta was a teacher at the Belmopan Comprehensive School who was at home in Orange Walk spending the summer holiday when he was killed at around 3:00am Sunday morning. The body was discovered hours after with a single cut wound to the neck on St. Peter’s Street near the market.

Police have only sketchy information to go on at this point, but it is believed that Azueta was out drinking when he was attacked and murdered. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Selvyn Tillett, “someone who was passing by heard a loud cry coming from the area where the body was found. Shortly thereafter, he saw two male persons riding off on bicycles”. MOVEMENT PROTEST CORRUPTION & CRIME City of Belmopan, July 26, 2016 A people’s movement meant to brace the high levels of corruption and criminal activity in Belize involving Government officials kicked off with a special vigil on Monday night held in memory of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas. The movement, initiated

by Pastor Louis Wade, PLUS TV news director and Rise and Shine morning show host, goes by the hashtag name #iwantmycountryback.

The vigil saw a large crowd of supporters and sympathizers turn out to march through the streets of the city of Belmopan on Monday night with candles in their hands.

On Tuesday morning, members of the group re-gathered once more in front of the National Assembly for a two-hour protest through the streets and onto at least the front steps of various Minstries including the Ministries of Finance and National Security, to declare their dissatisfaction with the lack of justice and security in Belize.

The movement is calling for an international investigator to lead the criminal probe into the murder of Pastor Lucas and the wave of serious scandals involving Cabinet Ministers and senior Police officials.

While some of his belongings were found with the body, Police have been unable or unwilling to disclose whether there was a large sum of cash missing when they got to the scene.

Azueta is the third teacher that the Belmopan Comprehensive School has lost in the past weeks.
