Christmas message by

Dear Friends in Christ, We have come once again to the joyful season of Christmas. It is a time for families to gather and for the Church to celebrate the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The Son of God became human in humble circumstances to bring the Good News of God’s love for all humanity. Jesus was not born in a palace or any other sort of elegant home. He came into the world in the humblest of places, in a manger, a home for animals, because there was no room at the inn.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the Holy Family were pilgrims, away from home. According to Matthew’s Gospel, they could not even stay in their own country of Israel, as King Herod wanted to kill the child, so they fled into Egypt. They spent a number of years there until they heard of Herod’s death, and returned to Israel. The Holy Family’s journey to Bethlehem then to Egypt, seeking safety, unites them with refugees around the world who have to flee their homes to seek safety or employment.

Our society has a strong tradition of remembering the less fortunate at Christmas time.

Christmas baskets help many families to have a special meal on Christmas. Various churches and organizations have celebrations during the Christmas season for children or the elderly. It is a time when we remember that Jesus the Christ, the Emmanuel, was born to teach us that God is with us always.

One challenge we face at Christmas is how we keep Christ in the season. Remember with our gift sharing that we imitate

God’s gift to us, the gift of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. Gather with the Church as we pray during the Advent and Christmas Seasons, singing God’s praises, and thanking God for the gift of Jesus. A second challenge is to keep the spirit of concern for the poor alive throughout the year. I give thanks for many Catholic organizations that make it their business year round to remember the poor: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mercy Center, Hand in Hand Ministries, St. Francis Xavier Social Service, Mercy Kitchen in Orange Walk, Matthew 25 Group in Corozal, the Social Concerns and Social Justice Team of the Pastoral Life Commission, the Socio-Economic Outreach of St. Peter Claver Parish, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel FIHP Families into Homes Project.

These arms of the Church work to serve the needs of the poor every day.

As we celebrate this Christmas Season it is also good to remember the proclamation of praise of the angels to the shepherds, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Lk. 2, 14). May all that we do throughout this Christmas Season and during the coming year be a song of praise to the glory of God. We pray that the peace of the new born Christ child, a peace that only Christ can bring, will bless our world, the people of Belize, our villages, towns and cities, our homes, and our hearts. This Christmas the joy of the Good News of Jesus Christ rings throughout our communities.

May the joy and blessings of Jesus Christ be yours this Christmas and throughout the New Year 2015.

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ,

and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

This chosen passage of scripture might not readily sound like one that belongs to the Season of Christmas given the almost romantic attachment we have to the scene of the manger, the shepherds in the field, the choral angels, and the star in the East, thanks to popular Christmas card covers. However, in actual fact, this passage contains the very essence of the Christmas Message; the Good News - the Gospel.

In much of the Christian world, what is commemorated every December 25th is a decisive moment in earth’s history when God entered that history like never before; to usher in, like never before, His act of redemption. The birth of the Christ Child, the Incarnation of the God-man, was to ultimately lead to that awesome scene on Calvary’s Hill when it appeared that heaven and earth had violently met, and the forces of evil staged their greatest attempt to undermine the purposes of God. In the midst of this event that we must assume was of cosmic proportions, God was doing His thing; God was securing humanity’s redemption which we now have the opportunity and privilege to receive, and also in which we can now participate. God, as St Paul puts it, ‘was reconciling the world to Himself’ in the life of Jesus even as it tragically ended on the slopes of Calvary, and God was doing so in a manner which defies human logic and comprehension.

So the baby in the manger was born to one day restore the relationship between God and humanity (and all creation, for that matter). The baby grew up to show us through his life, message and ministry, what that restored relationship with God (reconciliation) looks like in real terms. In the Gospel narratives Continued on page 11

INSULTING El CAYO

he UDP is insulting the people of San Ignacio, Santa Elena and El Cayo. This insult is open, up in their faces, typical arrogance of the leader of that party. The insult is straightforward: we have millions of dollars and we will bribing every voter who is desperate for money.

These days desperation is everywhere and growing. For the month of December, the desperation has doubled and tripled. In addition to the usual stress and pressures of fighting the cost of living, there is the pressures of Christmas and the re-opening of school in early January.

The Prime Minister has set the bye-election for Cayo North for 5th January 2015. This early date allows him to use the Christmas give-aways as part of his election bribery tactics. This way he does not have to give voters anything as he will be forced to do if the bye-elections were held in February. So while he is pretending to be generous he is as means and heartless as ever.

The idea that Mr. Barrow can reappear in Cayo and ignore what his protégé Penner had done and what Castro, King and a string of his inner circle colleagues are accused of smacks of disdain for the people of Cayo.

The UDP candidate for the bye-elections is such a wishy-washy fellow that asked or public television what plans he is proposing to the voters; his response was there is no need for any plans as a General Election is due in three years’ time. So the next two years don’t count.

He could not even repeat his party propaganda that “more” will come to the area. Perhaps that more is being the corrupt and wasteful spending of Petro-Caribe money with all the baggage of corruption and lack of accountability that have been smearing Mr. Barrow and his government.

Mr. Barrow, as has been pointed out before, has become quite a slick, some would say quite sick, when it comes to using poor people and abusing public funds. For him, winning elections is about fooling and hoodwinking the people. It is about hand-outs and bribery. For these he has much experience in Belize City. Having done nothing for the residents on the southside of Belize City, he can show the election results. His party has won in areas where it is heart-rending to see the physical and personal conditions in which people have been condemned to live. Some of these people have been given a small amount of weekly groceries and a few dollars here and there. These desperate people, an hundred here and a hundred there, by their numbers tip the scales sufficiently to override the wishes of others who vote genuinely for change.

UDP WILL TRY TO STEAL CAYO NORTH ELECTIONS

It is six years since Mr. Barrow is the Prime Minister. In 2008 he rode on the backs of the trade unions, public officers and civil society claiming he would bring about better form of governance.

He never did.

By 2012, having bought two PUP constituencies, he called a snap elections. He got the shock of his life. The good people of Belize were voting to get rid of him. From a huge majority he was facing defeat and would have been driven from office, were it not for the two constituencies.

On election night, with tears in his eyes he promised he would listen to the message sent by the country and would do better.

But as the saying goes, leopards cannot change their spots. Mr. Barrow got worse.

The constant corruption that has emerged under his nose at the Ministries of Health, Lands, Petroleum, Customs and with a growing number of his Ministers, has become unbearable to Belizeans. Mr. Barrow’s arrogant responses to cries for improvement and public accountability have angered Belizeans. They have seen through Mr. Barrow, he will not change and he will not do better.

Flushed with Petro-Caribe money he will teach Belizeans a lesson if the people think they will vote out Barrow, he will show them what money can do. He intends to embark on the biggest buy-out, the biggest bribery of voters ever witnessed in Belize. He knows there is growing poverty and desperation in the country.

He knows poor people are only too willing to accept money and hand-outs. He believes that he owns those who accept his hand-outs and money. He is counting the number of persons in each constituency who are accepting bribes. He is making his calculations and grinning with satisfaction.

The good people in Cayo North will be his first test case. He is satisfied they can be bought. The bye-election is not going to be about issues or ideas, or how best the people can benefit. It is solely about money, and the love of it – which incidentally is the root of all evil.

Cayo will be the testing ground and the lessons to be learnt will teach the country how to rid itself of Mr. Barrow and all the things he stands for.

Editor’s Note: We share in the joy of the people of Cuba who have suffered for fifty-three years under an unjust embargo by the U.S.A. The bold decision of both Cuban and U.S. leaders to roll back a cold war policy and allow some prosperity to become available is welcome news.

We also take this opportunity to wish all our readers, supporters and their families a Blessed, Safe and Wonderful Christmas, and New Year!

6 06 KAREN’S CIRCUS AT BTB Belize City, December 17, 2014 “Tourism is a business” - these were the words that Director Karen Bevans said in her speech at BTIA’s recent Annual General Meeting. Well what it has turned out to be under the UDP is a real circus. We just don’t know who is the circus clown as it seems to change on a weekly basis.

The UDP unceremoniously kicked out the former PM’s daughter, Laura Esquivel, who, at least, had a tourism background, and replaced her with their very loyal BTL stalwart, Karen Bevans who is totally green to tourism but very much in tuned with travelling, cocktails and the glitz and glamour of the job.

Just like her mentor Dean Barrow, Ms. Bevans is all glitter, but no substance. This, of course, after the BTB paid handsomely for a full page self-promoting piece of the Prime Minister’s wife (a dear friend of the Director of Tourism) which had less to do with Belize as the tourism destination but more with Mrs. Barrow as a wanna-be fashion model.

In the 6 years of government, the UDP has not improved tourism - not for the hoteliers, not for tour operators, not for the guides, the artisans nor the tourism destinations.

Then with Karen, they brought in the UDP’s most faithful economic expert, Carla Barnett, to serve as the Chairman of the Board. Both of these top positions would be supported by the darling of all UDPs, Tracy Taeger Panton, the CEO in the Ministry of Tourism.

So with all these so called experts and no nonsense business minded UDP professionals, how is it that they would miss the most important procedure of hiring for any senior Director position: a thing called due diligence.

Surely the BTB stacked with so many departments and units could have done a proper check as part of their interview process. One day a press release is issued by Karen Bevans that Clive Myers is their “new dynamic” Director of Marketing and less than 3 days later, he resigns because he was exposed as having misrepresented his CV. So since 2011, just under 3 years of a UDP tourism board, the UDP has seen two Directors of Tourism come and go, two Directors of Marketing come and go, one person who got appointed as the Director of Marketing on the basis of misrepresentation as to his credentials, and now no Director of Marketing. The now acting Director of Marketing is a statistician or an IT expert. So why is it that they didn’t let the person filling this new gap be someone at least out of the Marketing Department… more UDP circus tricks.

Under Karen Bevans, Carla Barnett and Tracy Panton - it is UDP-style mismanagement, confusion and lies. To make tourism statistics look good, they have to include the cruise visitation because without it, they struggle to talk about what they have done for the overnight sector - the bedrock of the industry.

And as for the cruise sector, which is a relevant sector of the industry, this government doesn’t engage or consult, resulting in frequent protests and press conferences crying for a solution to the port crisis, to the severe loss of jobs with the NCL ships going south and an equitable approach for all operators.

The UDP Government is clearly not serious about one of the most important industries in Belize.

Guatemala PUP demands responsible governance December 17, 2014 The People’s United Party (PUP) advises Belizeans that on behalf of the Nation, the Government of Prime Minister Dean Barrow has signed 13 Bilateral Agreements with Guatemala, today in Placentia in the presence of the Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza.

The Agreements are on Prisoner Exchange and the Serving of Penal Sentence, Operating Hours At Legal Terrestrial Entry Points; Program on Seasonal Workers; Protection, the Recovery And Return of Items of Cultural And Natural Patrimony, Visa Waiver for Stu-

dents, Deportation, Electric Power Trade, Transmission Interconnection And Grid Connectivity; Mutual Recognition of Driver’s Licenses; Movement of Students via land entry points; Protection Of the Environment and the Sustainable Use of Resources; Degree Equivalence and Recognition of Education documents; Sustainable Tourism; and Stolen Vehicles.

The Representative of the Leader of the Opposition, participated in the bilateral discussion and negotiation of these Agreements in early November of 2014, on the clear basis that any Agreement signed by Belize with Guatemala, first needed to be consulted with the people of Belize, prior to any such Agreement being signed.

The People’s United Party takes the position that because of the unjust and unfounded claim of Guatemala to Belizean territory, any bilateral Agreement between Belize and Guatemala should have been made known to Belizeans and discussed prior being finalized and signed.

We call upon the Government of Belize to act responsibly and in the interest of national security and sovereignty to ensure that the remaining Agreements on Joint Exploitation of Hydrocarbons and an Air Transport Agreement; and any other bilateral Agreement made by the Government of Prime Minister Barrow with the Government of Guatemala, be fully made known to Belizeans, and consulted before the same is finalized or made.

Where Petro-Caribe is NOT Rolling!!

San Ignacio Town, December 15, 2014 The Barrow Administration was hugely embarrassed by PUP supporters on Monday, December 15, 2014 when it was revealed that while the Government is rolling in “millions and millions” as boasted many times by Prime Minister Dean Barrow, San Ignacio lacks simple and basic needs like a Belizean flag for its Police Station or functioning ambulance for emergency response for its residents.

The San Ignacio Police Station has been lacking, of all things, a Belizean flag. For over two months, the Police precinct has been requesting from the Government a flag to fly outside the building. There has been no response, even though the Government has been spending millions on political gimmicks.

Continued from page 2 we see Jesus, on a daily basis, mingling with the poor and outcast, bringing hope to the despondent, healing and making whole those broken in body, mind and soul. So often those individuals touched

by Jesus had become the ‘victims’ of marred and shattered relationships, not the least of which was their relationship with God Himself. No small wonder then that, before healing many of them, Jesus would say, “your sins are forgiven”, meaning, ‘your relationship with God has been restored.’

This same Jesus, the God-man, the baby in the manger, now looks to you and I who desire year after year to celebrate his incarnation, to do the same. He looks to us to live out this life of reconciliation with each other – on a daily basis. Once again, St Paul gets it right when he says, ‘All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.’ Indeed, we have been given both the ministry and the message of reconciliation to share with the world. It is a world so desperate for such a message and ministry. The stories that make the daily news headlines, the circumstances under which too many people live in too many parts of the world, the conflicts among individuals, communities and nations, the barbaric actions of misguided and evil groups and regimes, the pictures of the suffering of the innocent; these all undeniably point to a hurting and fractured and sad world. Into such a darkened and desolate world must shine the light of the Gospel of Christ. We are those Gospel-bearers when we do what God has called us to do.

May the gifts we share this Christmas and throughout the rest of our lives be not only those that come wrapped in paper and perhaps placed under the Christmas Tree, but more importantly let them be hearts ready to forgive, ready to receive forgiveness, ready to embrace reconciliation; and may such hearts be wrapped with the very love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

PUP senior leaders Hector Silva, a former elected representative of the Cayo District, turned up with a flag and along with PUP Leader Hon. Francis Fonseca, he handed over the new flag to the Officer in Charge of the San Ignacio Police, Superintendent Dinsdale Thompson. Thompson expressed his gratitude and proudly hoisted the flag, to restore national pride at his Police Station.

Then while supporters waited for Harrison’s nomination process to conclude, the unimaginable occurred. An ambulance responding to an emergency in town shutdown along the street, and was not

able to start. The PUP supporters came to the aid and gave the ambulance a handy push to get the engine going!

San Ignacio and Santa Elena residents say the ambulance is the only one in town, which is totally inadequate. But their problems don’t end there. Bad town infrastructure, poor security, slow economic activity, unemployment, lack of skills training for residents, and increasing cost of living could be added to the long list.

Petro-Caribe may be rolling for the UDP and their special-interest cronies, but in San Ignacio and Santa Elena and surrounding communities, the only rolling are the UDP’s empty promises. Resident agree that it’s time to roll them out of office.

But this plan has turned streets and neighborhoods into disaster zones as the construction did not include drainage and now streets are becoming rivers. The city is a flood zone. Bradley has been a huge disappointment to Belize City residents. He has done little to impact the lives of residents, and instead has pressured the poor and downtrodden with increased taxes ever since he took office. According to Bradley, if resident can’t pay they can’t access any services offered by the Council. How cold and chancy he has been.

Reid Playing “Chicken” in the Sugar Industry

Michael Reid “Since the nuclear stalemate became apparent, the governments of East and West have adopted the policy which Mr. Dulles calls ‘brinksmanship.’ This is a policy adapted from a sport which, I am told, is practiced by some youthful degenerates. This sport is called ‘Chicken!” ~ Bertrand Russell The game of chicken is played with two different sides in an activity that will result in serious harm unless one or the other backs down. The original version of this game was played with motor vehicles whereby both participants drive a vehicle of some sort in a straight line towards each other. The first to swerve loses the game and is considered a “chicken,” or a coward. While that version of the game was played primarily amongst adolescents or aggressive young men, there have been instances where this same game has been played at very high levels by very big people with major consequences at stake.

It was welcome a relief to hear earlier this week that some sort of compromise had been reached and that the cane trucks of our northern districts would once again be rolling. Had the cane farmers not decided to be “chicken” and give in to the demands of those bullies from ASR, it would have devastated that industry. Politically speaking, that would have, without a doubt, accelerated the demise of this current UDP administra-

tion. As it is, many farmers are proceeding reluctantly and when the pain of the “bukut” finally sinks in, there will be hell to pay.

Right now the farmers are only concerned about getting their cane harvested before they lose their investment. After all, the real investors in this industry are the farmers who spend the entire season expending resources for fertilizers, pesticides and caring for their crops. Cane farming is hard work and requires long hours of tedious labor.

The ideal scenario, and one which would have offered the best results for the cane farmers, would have been for them to stick to their guns come hell or high water. They are absolutely justified in their demands but in spite of that, they have shown a noble spirit of compromise; perhaps to a fault. The problem is that in this particular game of chicken, the farmers are driving their cane trucks but ASR/BSI is a huge cane crusher fueled by an unending supply of “big money”.

The farmers have mortgages to service, overhead expenses to meet and families to feed. ASR on the other hand, came in and was handed the sweetest of deals. All they do is sit and wait, sell the cane and make easy money. They have the full blessings and backing of the very government that is supposed to be standing up for the people. In the words of a song from the band Third World, “children beware, they play the game unfair.”

Most right-thinking Belizeans are happy to see this season get underway; for the sake of the farmers and of this industry so very vital to the well-being of our nation. With the Petro Caribe money now starting to dry up, Belize will again need to squeeze every penny it can from its sugar, citrus and tourism industries.

The start of this year’s sugarcane season comes a full month late and follows what seems to have become a trend. Last year the season also started late and for pretty much the same reasons.

The two sides in this ongoing tug-of-war, the cane farmers of Belize on one side and the ASR/ BSI bigwigs on the other side, have been staring at each other since ASR took control of this company in 2012. One might say that last year the cane farmers blinked and gave in on a promise that negotiations would continue

and an agreement reached before the end of the season. Well, the season came and went and when ASR showed no indication of fulfilling the promise, the farmers again tried to force ASR’s hand. It is not advisable however, to attempt a dance with the devil in the pale moonlight.

This year, the game was ratcheted up a notch when ASR threatened to bypass the farmer’s association and deal directly with the farmers. ASR also threatened to cut the amount of sugar they would process by as much as 90 percent. For a while, it seemed that the farmers would not be fazed and they threatened industrial action if their demands were not met; it looked like no one would swerve.

ASR/BSI seemed to have deployed a deadly strategy in this sport however, which left the farmers with little choice but to give in. Sometimes in this game, one driver disables their steering wheel before the match making it obvious that they would, under no circumstance, be the one to surrender.

It was obvious that this is where ASR was at.

syndrome couldn’t contain himself and is promoting himself as savior of the situation. Interestingly enough, it is a situation which he himself has created.

After years of control by the foreign owned Tate and Lyle Company, Belizeans assumed control of the company in the late nineties. When BSI ran into trouble, the farmers proposed a plan to buy the company and keep it locally owned. The Prime Minister however, while spouting nationalism out of one side of his mouth brokered a deal that put the company right back into the hands of the very Tate and Lyle.

How can he now with a clear conscience be patting himself on the back and taking credit for breaking the impasse. What has he to feel proud about?

The cane farmers lost in this game of chicken and lost the opportunity to broker a better deal for themselves. It is difficult to blame them however, for the odds were hugely against them. It must not be nice to look across and see that the very government that is supposed to have your back is the one driving the oncoming car. Better luck next time fellows!

(2) Every person who is the holder of any hotel licence, special hotel licence, restaurant licence or licence to sell liquor in any premises not solely maintained for that purpose, granted under the provisions of any Act authorizing the sale of intoxicating liquor shall take all necessary steps to prevent the sale of intoxicating liquor at any time upon election day between the hour appointed for the opening of the poll and the hour appointed for the closing of the poll.

(3) Any person who contravenes this section is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction with a fine not exceeding two hundred and fifty dollars or with imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.”

THINK ABOUT IT GIVING AWAY MONEY For the past two weeks, the National Bank in Belmopan has seen a huge increase in the number of persons lining up to collect money.

The so-called National Bank is a UDP political gimmick. There is nothing nationalistic about it. Everyone who gets money from the so-called National Bank knows that they don’t have to repay those monies and there is nothing nationalistic about it.

Everyone knows that the loans being approved to party loyalists and cronies will not be required to be paid back and will be written off just prior to the next general elections. The crowds outside of the Bank waiting to get in last week in rain and the week before in the flooded grounds were being handed cheques for three thousand dollars and five thousand dollars.

This month is also when ALL persons with housing loans of up to one hundred thousand dollars will see the government giving them back what they pay as interest.

It’s illegal to use taxpayers’ money to pay private citizens’ personal bank loan interests.

But if one Minister can burn up millions of dollar worth of rosewood in Toledo even as another minister is buying millions of dollars of imported plycem to build some two by four houses, anything can happen with this government.

One thing they are overlooking. The Beatles put it in a song years ago- “Money Can’t Buy Me Love”.

CANE FARMERS DEFEATED The cane farmers of Orange Walk are facing defeat. Their noble stand for fairness and justice has been crushed by A.S.R./B.S.I. The cane delivery and factory grinding season was to start on 8th December. It didn’t happen because ASR used the desperation of the cañeros to grind them to the ground. To teach them a lesson and to hurt and humiliate them in the process.

These strong men and women of Orange Walk had resisted the blandishments of the ASR which had sought to go around the Cane Farmers Association and sign up individual cañeros to deliver cane and to undermine the Association. Unity and moral courage kept the cañeros together.

But with Christmas less than two weeks away and school expenses and cost of living facing them, the cañeros wished to deliver cane in time to collect December monies as early as possible.

This is where A.S.R. had them over a barrel.

ASR is a wealthy branch of ASR international. They can afford to wait as long as necessary. The cañeros cannot. In an effort at compromise and a signal of weakness, the Committee of Management of the Cane Farmers Association with support of its members agreed to back down.

They agreed to most of ASR’s demands with some adjustments. They agreed to sign to deliver cane for three years (ASR wanted 7 years). They agreed to accept 51 cents for baggase. They agreed to give ownership of their cane to ASR. ASR has not yet responded. In other words, let the suckers suffer and sweat.

Let them wait till we are ready. Let them punish.

The Prime Minister is pretending to be negotiating with ASR for the cane farmers. What a bitter joke. He is the one who refused to lift a finger to help the cane farmers to own the sugar factory.

He is the one that oversaw ASR take over the sugar factory, instead of lending the cane famers or at least guaranteeing a loan to the cane farmers to buy the sugar factory.

The Prime Minister already knows ASR will agree to the cane farmers’ weakened position in the next couple of days. He is hoping to play hero and take credit for the situation.

He is hoping. But his hope to be a savior and to be a hero won’t work. He is in the process upstaging the Minister of Agriculture who in all this, has looked weaker and silly.

The cane farmers know who their real friends are and who the real enemy is. The Prime Minister is not among their friends.

DIVERSIFY OR DIE ASR has bought lands and has planted cane. In two to three years’ time they will have no need for the present cane farmers or their Association. Mechanised cane cutting will be introduced.

The special treatment of getting particular prices from Europe will end in 2017.

Because there is no leadership in government, nothing is being done to prepare the cañeros to start growing other cash crops.

Additional lands should be made available. Soft loans should be granted for corn, papayas, cashew, coconuts or whatever is considered.

A special Advisory Commission headed by persons like Denzel Jenkins and Dan Silva should be appointed to advise the northern farmers on alternatives and the way forward.

Where there is no vision the farmers and their families will perish. So shall it be written and so shall it become.

HOW DARE THE MAYOR Every time this gyalish Mayor gets annoyed, he starts throwing petty tantrums.

Remember how he behaved when he was told that he would not be allowed to challenge Santino Castillo in a convention for Caribbean Shores?

Remember how he couldn’t care less about drains and inconvenience to motorist and other citizens? His only agenda was to borrow TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS, concrete some streets and then jump into the “big time” as a

His latest tantrum is over the city councilors. They are tired of being pushed around and treated with disrespect, and have stood up to the Mayor who had unilaterally made some wrong moves. The Mayor packed up things from his office and muttered words taken to mean he is leaving.

He can leave all he wants. No one will miss him.

What he can’t do is go over to his law office and work anytime between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. He is collecting a full time salary to do a full time job at the city council. Anytime he is in court and anytime he is at his law office, he should not collect city council pay for those periods because he is committing a crime.

That crime is collecting money under false pretense.

How dare the Mayor tell the media that he has a right to do as he pleases because he is a father, a family man and a professional who can go to court as much as he wants? Wrong!

Anytime he goes to court from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., he is stealing tax payers’ money for work he is not performing on the job at City council.

There is another aspect to the Mayors antics. Not once but twice he has publicly disrespected his Prime Minister.

On both occasions he directly contradicted a policy decision by the leader of government. The Prime Minister has told the nation publicly when the sanitation workers of a private company lose their jobs they will be employed at the City Council. The Mayor keeps saying publicly that can’t happen.

Where is this disrespect for the Prime Minister coming from? It is coming from the financial backing the Mayor is allegedly getting or will get to proceed to challenge Santino in the Caribbean Shores.

There is more to this story and that will be told another time.

KIM IS BACK Supermodel, First Lady, wife of the Prime Minister is back- in the news. Kim surfaced last Wednesday evening at her own one million dollars Inspiration Center

giving a speech and giving out inspiration calendars.

It was an event for children with disabilities.

Guess who came along? No other than the Minister of Education who has done nothing for disabled children. In different circumstances the Minister would have been the subject of protest for the allegation of beating up a woman. There was a seminar against women beaters elsewhere in Belize City. The Minister used Kim’s event not to show his face at the Women Against Violence seminar.

Kim is also a Special Envoy for Women.

We want to ask her to use her enormous influence to help Miss Olympic King. Miss King who could not afford a lawyer went to court on a charge of having one weed tree and one pipe at her house. This is drug trafficking and she was found guilty. She faces 3 years in jail and a fine of ten thousand dollars. That is the minimum for drug trafficking. She goes to court on 5th January, 2015 to learn her fate.

How can one weed tree be drug trafficking? Why should a woman and a mother go to jail for that?

A MAN WITH NO PLAN San Ignacio Town, December 16, 2014 UDP candidate Omar Figueroa has shown little regard or respect for the people of Cayo North. So low is his view of the constituents that he apparently believes that he can campaign simply on the coat tails of his Party and not on addressing the real issues.

Figueroa has implicitly rejected the idea of a debate of the issues in Cayo North. The PUP’s impressive candidate Richard Harrison, who by comparison outmatches and out-performs the UDP’s pawn, challenged Figueroa to a debate two weeks ago. Figueroa has pretended not to have heard this challenge, but individuals in his campaign team have reported that he has no interest in a debate because he doesn’t want to be put to shame.

Now, Figueroa has even rejected the idea of presenting a plan for Cayo North.

When asked by the media, this week, why he hadn’t put forward a plan unlike Harrison, who has been sharing his progressive ideas for the area following

his consultation with residents, Figueroa scoffed and said that a plan “makes any sense”.

Figueroa also revealed his difficulty with rational thinking, as he explained that he will not present a plan because the “by-election” is only for “two years”, after which, the people will decide whether he is meeting their needs or not. We are still not sure what he meant by this, but it is proof of what PUP Leader Hon. Francis Fonseca has said about Figueroa, that he will join a sinking ship that does not put the people of Cayo North as priority.

The residents of Cayo North deserve better than a politician who shows such little interest in the improvement of their lives. The residents of Cayo North deserve a leader who will think about their lives and future every day, and Richard Harrison has shown that he is the better candidate for this.

Even the Bible warns us of pseudo-leaders like Omar Figueroa…Proverbs 29:18 says it clearly: Where there is no vision, the people perish.
