INTRODUCTION The project "Other, Alike, The Same" was carried out by four schools from Spain, Greece, Romania and Italy (the last one as coordinator).

The whole project's pathway, meant for the final classes of Primary school, has developed themes aimed at increasing the sense of belonging to the European Union and at the integration of refugees.

The

students

carried

out

activities

with

the

help

of

innovative

methodologies; they spent weeks of mobility abroad where, together with the teachers, developed profitable exchanges and improved the English language

skills.

Meetings

and

workshops

with

experts

gave

their

contribution to knowledge and competence.

We strengthened the awareness of the idea of European citizenship, as belonging to a culture, values, history and common path, through the study of many countries of the Union (history, habits, languages and traditions).

Moreover, through interviews carried out by the students, our school communities knew stories of migrants and refugees living in our local communities hosted in Assistance Centers or assisted by Caritas: these activities made clear to the students that due to war and violence lot of people leave the places of birth to migrate to safer places.

In this regard, we worked on the idea of diversity as value and item of respect and acceptance of the "other" and therefore openness towards "the stranger".

We believe that radicalism can be defeated only through a great cultural effort aimed at strengthening the sense of belonging to the European Union, supportive, rich of diversity and cradle of humanity.

A1- Project Logo Competition In October 2016 we started our first activity, everybody was anxious to start. Each teacher explained the aim of the activity to pupils of different classes of Primary; we told them to think and draw a logo for the project something that represented the theme of our project about integration of people respecting their own differences and cultures.

The

teachers relied on

the principles of individual action, trust,

encouragement, diversity, freedom of expression, respect of personality, motivation,

reward

and

positive

classroom

environment.

The

teachers

motivated the students working as they like, but they explained them that probably would try working together in groups for a better work. The results were amazing. The imagination of the students created works of art.

The teacher of the visuals worked a lot. She guided the children about what and how prepare their work, the materials to be used (papers, paintings, shears, glue etc.).

Different techniques were used: markers, crayons etc. Pupils were yearning to take part in the new adventure and they worked really well. Our schools were transformed into a painting workshop.

All the drawings were showed at the Erasmus corner and a selection of three was made by teachers and pupils. These three pictures were sent to the Italian coordinator; they were voted by an online polling by every students od the Italian school during our first Transnational Project Meeting.

The first prize was for the Romanian team: a sunflower with the different flags as leaves.

A2: Brochure with Citizenship words from all partners country In November 2016, we wanted to make a mini dictionary in the 5 languages of our partnership (Italian, Spanish, Greek, Romanian, and English) with words of everyday use. We identified 23 sections or topics (for example "Months of the Year", "Numbers", Colours "etc.): each section contained several words, all translated into the 5 languages. Each school created 4 or 5 sections.

First of all, we selected the most suitable words for each section, then we searched to translate them into other languages through online translators.

Each word had to be accompanied by an image or hand-drawn design. After that, every single school has corrected the whole work relative to the part of its own language.In order to enrich the dictionary, each school provided an illustrated tab of its alphabet and a map with the most popular words of its language in the world.

Pupils and teachers have accomplished the activity by using programs such as Word- Paint- Google Translator- Reverso and used different techniques for the hand made drawings.

Italian, Spanish, Romanian and English pupils were able to know the letters of the Greek

alphabet and

some

similarities between

the different

languages.

A3-Light of Christmas –festivals, theater, carols, workshops with parents and other stakeholders

In December 2016, for Christmas we played the Nativity scenes in the school theater, in the Orthodox Church of the village, in a masseria: there was an active involvement of the local community with parents and grandparents of our pupils. Some groups of students wrote the script and the poem, other students students worked for the carols and the music of the play.

The pupils from V grade performed in poems in Romanian, English, Italian, Spanish and Greek languages, contributing fully to the feeling of unity in diversity of the European Union and to the fact that their effort will be successfully integrated into a much larger and collaborative didactic product . The message sent by the students had an increased impact in our local community, infact in our schools, through the domino effect were realized other plays with the same subject.

The teachers' role was to guide them in achieving this performance and to convey the pure emotion of the Christmas celebration to the audience and to those who would have watched this moment as a filming example for a European-impact teaching film. Teachers and parents designed and made the scenery grandparents created the students 'costumes. The rehearsal

church

and

the

parents'

association contributed to that moment of unity among the students of our school, visibly supported by all stakeholders in this strategic partnership.

The theatrical performance was great! Everyone was satisfied.

This activity was an amazing activity for students, teachers, parents because non-formal activities are important for the learning and holistic training of students at early ages.

A4- Festival- drama theater with themes from European and other cultures The A4 activity was about a traditional fairy tale. Every partner had to prepare a video 12 minutes long, written in own language adding subtitles or acted in English.

Greece has a tradition about the “S h a d o w Theatre'' with “K a r a g i o z i s i s”. K a r a g i o z i s i s is a lovely and famous character for all the Greek people. His adventures began 200 years ago,

when

theTurks

were

in

Greece, so the Greek team of Erasmus decided to make a video on shadow theatre. When the teachers shared this idea with their students , they were full of enthusiasm.

An old student of our school (his name is Dimitrios Papikas), who is involved with the shadow theater, gave some informations to the pupils of the 5thGrade about it. Teachers, students and Dimitrios chose the fairy tale: The Bad-Hearted giant and the Hop-o'-My-Thumb". After that we began writing the script . We thought that one part of it should be written as a text with the figures on the movie and the rest normally as the shadow theatre.

The teacher of the I.C.T. helped us a lot on that.

The next step was about the design of scenes and figures. Dimitrios showed to the students and teachers the special materials that we needed . We had an hard work to do, but in a few days we were ready.The last step was to prepare the scene of the shadow theatre with the white cloth. We asked the help of the parents. Dimitrios had some pieces of the scene, but part of work was done by the parents.

Now the pupils had to learn how to handle the figures (move, enter and exit the scene, etc.).Dimitrios helped the pupils a lot and we started the rehearsals. In a few days we were ready.The theater was filmed, mounted and subtitled. Teachers and pupils, were very proud of the final result.

For all schools this crosscurricular activity required considerable effort (writing scripts, acting, creating stage clothes) but also had a significant impact from the historical and interculturapoint of viewl .

A5- How to be a European? Interviews with migrants, refugees, stakeholders, NGO-s.

In march 2017,each school organised meetings with people who help the migrants (volunteers and ONG) and with people who lived or still live as migrant.

Students guided by their teachers ,asked questions in order to better know the guests.The frequent questions were :Why do you leave your country? do you miss your country? How do you imagine to live here in Europe? What are your dreams?

We gather evidence of migration from Nigeria, Venezuela, El Salvador, Guiana, Zimbawe, Afganistan, Kazachistan, Romania and also from Italy. We knew the work and the passion of the volunteers who assist the refugees (Caritas/British Red Cross/Accem). We also heard the story of a family from Salonicco who for several months accomodated a Syrian family.

This activity had a major impact on our pupils and on the students' parent involved in the project because they presented in the form of an interview the integration process of some migrants. Migration is an important demographic factor in the European society and contributes to enhancing the liberal and tolerant identity of common consciousness.

The message of this filmed interview was important in the further evolution of student activities within this strategic partnership to realize the importance of tolerance, understanding, respect and multiculturalism in the European space. Every culture and national civilization adds value to the feeling of being European and contributes to enrich the knowledge of modern and contemporary democratic history.

This activity was also emotional for children, parents and teachers because they learned the good feelings that are particularly important for the emotional development of children. in conclusion,the students understood that people leave their country in search of freedom, in order to have a better life and very often getting away from the wars.

The students payed a lot of attention to the interviews showing great 13

A6-European Thoughts-collection of QR codes made by pupils

The active combination of historical, geographic and cultural inform actions about monuments in and out the country with digital technology created the QR codes: it has been one of the most important and enjoyable moments in working with our students.

The fourth grade pupils selected and chose ten images in digital format of

They worked with the computers looking for information of the monuments adding the name and a brief description of each monument.

For designing QR codes, we involved the older mates from fifth grade and sixth grade and, helped by several teachers to operate in Digitaliada lab, the students found out about QR codes, what they look like, what they are made for.

QR codes were created to be discovered by their colleagues of the partner countries with different QR codes makers/readers: Aurasma, QRStuff etc.

The importance of this activity was complex because it involved creatively English skills, history, civilization, technology and IT, the students were attracted by this game.

The result of this activity was of great impact; one girl said that was like a visiting card or a photo album of our country. The students discovered or rediscovered informations about the cultural, natural or tourist attractions of the other partners' countries.

The posting of Erasmus corner brochures with QR codes contributed by the domino effect to the propagation of this activity at all levels of education and to the increased visibility of the project in the school and local community.

Each school also prepared 10 QR codes for codes hunting carried out during the Greek LTTA and the British Transnational Meeting.

A7- Our European World – summer school, study visits with pupils

In June 2017, at the end of our first year project, to learn more about our Europe, we carried out this activity, sharing the photos of journey or school trips: it has given a sense of inclusion, and the students felt motivated by it.

This has also given the opportunity for the students to know about other

In order to raise awareness of the Erasmus Program activities, we decided to use Twitter as the social media to share the school trip photos and describing the places in a synthetic way. Our project has its own Twitter account, it's: erasmus+ @Otheralikesame and for many students it also was #myfirsttweet.

The fifth grade students who are taking part in this Program brought in their photos of the school trip of this year. They selected the winning photos by public vote and uploaded on Twitter with the assistance of the ICT teacher.

The students were very excited about this project and shared many photos of the trip.

Through the different posts we knew the places of greatest interest of our countries such as monuments, castles, museums, bridges and even...a salt mine!

Pupils are always attracted by using tablets, mobile phones, or computers and using the social platforms; teachers also try to get more stimulating lessons through the use of ICT in learning.

A11-"We play with Europe": collection of games from all partners' cultures and immigrants

In October 2017 all the countries involved in the project worked on this activity. Each school should include a video about 5 to 8 minutes long in MP4 format with the explanation of one typical game from its country and another one from an immigrant (the games were played by our pupils).

At the end of the video,was included a written explanation in English and in the other language with: number of players, equipment needed and instructions.

It was a funny activity for the students, as they could work in the playground or gym and could learn and practice games from different cultures.

A12- International exhibition Cradle of Jesus with art-crafts, cards for Christmas and New Year. Christmas market In December 2017 each school from the project organized a Xmas market, selling different objects such as books, handcrafts, cards and different stuff in which our pupils, parents and stakeholders took part .The money collected was given to different immigrant associations such as –Caritas, Red Cross, ACCEM. Apart from all the market, the pupils made a Nativity crib with different materials, and different workshops were ready to work with younger pupils Each country prepared ten Christmas paper cards , made copies and sent them to each country by ordinary mail. These cards were part of an exposition.

Pupils, teachers and parents were all deeply involved on this demanding activity: this activity aimed to show our children, how lucky they were to have enough things for their daily lives and teach them to help people; not only with money but also with their work.

A13-European Citizenship 2018 Calendar At the beginning of the year 2018, all the schools in the project prepared 12 drawings, one drawing for each month of the year. The aim of the activity was to realize the European Citizenship 2018 Calendar that each school would printed on A3 size and distributed to their class groups.

The partner-school freely chose the topic of its drawing of the month (the season and the landscape, a festivity, a National holiday, an International or an European Day) and added short captions in the drawings.

Each calendar's page contained : 4 drawings (one for each school)+ the days of the weeks of a single month, the schools' logos, the project code and the Erasmus+ logo.

All the drawings were made with free technique (by hand, Clipart etc).

It was an experience that allowed the students to express themselves through images, to enhance the knowledge of traditions and festivals of other European countries.

The calendar created was a highly appreciated outputs in our school communities, for originality and colours.

A14-"European Identity"-collection of postcards selected drawings of children with Europe theme The purpose of the activity was to put in evidence the creativity of the pupils of European schools involved in the project (Italy ,Spain, Greece and Romania) by creating a collaborative, sustainable and easy to use product with attractive content for both students, teachers and parents. The postcard has always been a messenger in European culture and we wanted to build friendly and collaborative relationships between our civilizations and cultures by finding common solutions and directly involving students in these activities. The artistic messages delivered by our students had a great impact on school and regional communities by raising awareness among pupils, teachers and other stakeholders about the mechanisms of migration and European identity.

The Union's motto Unity in Diversity was the main theme of this pupils' gallery creations that turned into 40 postcards with messages of peace and awareness of relations between different members of the European Union.

The role of teachers was to select the most representative drawings to scan and edit them graphically to be printed.

The cover of the book was edited as a collage of the most four representative artistic creations in each partner country. The work was enjoyable for children because they saw the transferability of own products to a European project and a much larger scale impact. The products printed by the Romanian team have been distributed to associated schools to familiarize students and teachers with important common

European identities and migration

reality.

This activity has been emotional for children, parents, teachers because they have learned that positive feelings are what characterize us as people and emotional development at early ages is particularly important.

A15- Creation of a digital timeline about the history of each our country in the E.U. In March 2018, the partnership made a digital timeline. The goal was to realize one timeline per each school organization and one common timeline using the program https://time.graphics/ It needed to create an historical event by a description and pictures or video, chart etc.

Each school choose the main events of own country in EU and pupils studied and searched for topics to be selected and be placed on the own timeline (for instance: year of entry in the EU, birth of the Euro). After choosing the most significant historical events, the students created the digital line with the support of their teachers. Each school choose a different colour as background of the captions.

The result was amazing! Try to use the digital line in your History lessons and add other events with your students ... it's easy and fun!!!

A16: Europe's got talent-contest of songs and dances Thepurpose of this activity was to introduce songs, dances, gymnastic demonstrations or something else in which the students' talents appear.

The goal was to involve the teachers and the students in the activity and to present to the schoolmates of other schools (Italy, Romania, Spain and Greece) something that comes out of the culture of each school, activities, music, singing, dancing or something through a gym lesson or anything else.

All schools tried to give a solemnity and this was shown by the presentation where the children were uniformly dressed or wore traditional costumes. The events took place in gyms, music halls and multi-purpose rooms.

The students showed great enthusiasm because all together wanted to show their abilities with what everyone is doing both inside and outside school, such as athletic and cultural clubs.

Each school filmed the activities and created a video with the school details and sent it to Greece that was responsible for gathering the videos. Then a movie was created with all the activities.

This activity continued. We decided to introduce this activity during our visit in Monopoli (Italy) in May 2018. We organized a competition with similar prizes: three cups of different size. Every school had a committee of four students, who they would vote what they liked most. The excitement was great. At the end, the awards were given. All students applauded themselves and everyone was happy because there were no winners and defeated.

This activity was one of the best, because the pupils' participation was great. It was not limited to a single video, but it was followed by the vote.

The children felt the feelings of friendship, love , joy, cooperation. The different cultures united, became a culture, what we call European culture.

A17: "The Treasure hunting, Where are you?"

The A17 activity was the last one in which the students would participate, because the project would finish. The thought of all the four schools (Italy, Spain, Romania and Greece) was to play a game at the school that would be enjoyable, interesting and it would be relevant to Europe, the EU, and the program Erasmus. . The "Treasure Hunt" was the best way to finish the activities. This game is popular in all countries. There may be some minor differences, but the rules are the same.

Each school would prepare a video of the game and send it to the Greek school to become the final video of the activity.

We let each school free to decide how to play the game. But we put some terms, rules to make a joint result. Some of theme were: -The treasure to be a sweet (candies, chocolates etc with a nice package) -The pupils will play the game at the school.

- They will answer questions related to Europe, the EU and Erasmus.

-They will have to form a word or expression that is relevant to Europe.

-The hidden letters will be the letters that will form the words and will be placed by the teachers.

When it was announced to children that we would play the game: "The treasure hunting", it prevailed an enthusiasm between them: For some hours there was a lasting move at school: In the yard, in the halls, throughout the school building. The treasure, of course, was found and the kids enjoyed a nice sweet.

The goal was achieved: The students enjoyed the last activity of the programme

with

the

best

way:

playing.

Through

this game,

they

"measured" their knowledge of Europe and the EU, worked together, helped each other, created groups of different ages, enthusiasm, joy and generally a joyful atmosphere among students.

The activities of our project with the students ended with the best way.

Citizenship and Integration during the mobilities The LTTAs had been an opportunity to learn more about the refugee reception system in the countries of our partnership and to increase the sense of citizenship and respect for others. In Siguenza (Spain) we spent a day at the ACCEM Center (Asociacion Comision Catolica EspaĂąola de Migracion), a nonprofit organization that that provides attention and reception to refugees and immigrants in Spain promoting their social and labour integration. The sources of funding are public funding through projects at local, regional, state and European level. Here our students participated in brainstorming and created posters together with the volunteers and the guests of the center coming from Afghanistan, Venezuela and other countries of the world.

In Thessaloniki, Greece, Arsis volunteers showed us the unaccompanied refugees Center aged between 14 and 18 years. They explained that Arsis is an NGO and is funded by UNHCR. The students listened to the tellings of the guests and asked questions as the stories heard stimulated their curiosity and desire for knowledge. All the people present planted in the garden an olive tree as symbol of peace and in memory of the day. We also created together a tree painting as a sign of unity.

During the Italian LTTA organized by the I.C.Bregante-Volta held in Monopoli (Ba) in May 2018, we met Bilal Khan. He is a Pakistani Squash player, now member of the Italian national team and coach at the Squash Center in Bari.The local school community and the Erasmus + participants from Spain, Greece and Romania listened to the testimony of Bilal, young man who escaped a few years ago from Peshawar (Pakistan), a city under siege of terrorists. All those present at the meeting were deeply involved in his story.

At the end, Bilal signed autographs and played Squash with students who were delighted to have spent a "special" day at school.
