Cover art by 2024 Featured Artist Dyan Newton
Dyanlives in Abernathy, just north of Lubbock, Texas, and has been painting for over forty years. Her favorite media are watercolors and acrylics.
Throughout the years, after studying with many well-known artists, her art has evolved into an impressionistic style of painting, noticeably by lively brushwork and bright, vivid colors. She strives to create lots of energy in her paintings, keeping the paintings looking bold and fresh and not overworked, applying intuitive brushstrokes and also developing strong values. Many viewers say they like her paintings because the paintings make them feel “happy.”
She enjoys creating paintings from images she has taken of old mundane dwellings, quaint adobe villages and churches and remote scenes that are fast fading away. She feels like she is bringing them “back to life,” with her bold and complementary colors. She also loves painting beautiful landscapes, colorful beach cottages, mountains and florals.
Presented by:
Dyan has won numerous awards throughout her career and her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and internationally. She teaches classes in her studio and workshops in Lubbock and throughout the United States. She has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector and Lubbock Magazine. Her art is currently being represented by The Adobe Fine Art Gallery in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and Broadway Contemporary Fine Art in Lubbock, Texas.
Hailing from Nacogdoches, Texas, Jeffie Brewer is an artist whose unique background has profoundly influenced his creative journey. He grew up in a charming rural town in East Texas as the son of unconventional junkyard owners, where he learned to see beauty in everyday things, developed various industrial skills, and discovered his natural talent for drawing. These early experiences have left a lasting impact on his art.
Jeffie Brewer has an impressive academic background, holding a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in sculpture and metals, a Master of Arts (MA) in sculpture and painting, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in drawing, printmaking, and jewelry making. He also spent over 20 years teaching a wide range of art courses at the undergraduate and
graduate levels, covering subjects like sculpture, typography, and expressive drawing.
Since his first exhibition in 1998, Brewer's art has been featured in solo and group shows across North America, as well as in Mexico and Japan. His work has graced the intersections of Lubbock and found a place in renowned institutions like the Crystal Bridges Museum of Modern Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
For the Lubbock Arts Festival, Jeffie Brewer envisions an art exhibit entitled “Jeffie's Color Carnival.” This exhibit promises a captivating experience, featuring sculptures, illustrations and inflatables – taking visitors on a unique sensory journey.
n This exhibit is made possible by the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. Viewing of the exhibit is included with general admission.

Glory Hartsfield, a multimedia artist, initially explored her passion for metalwork during her time at South Plains College from 2007 to 2010, specializing in Jewelry/ Metalsmithing. However, her priorities shifted when she became a mother in 2010, causing a temporary hiatus in her artistic pursuits.
From 2013 to 2016, Glory completed her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at Midwestern State University, focusing on Sculpture as her major and Metalsmithing as her minor. In 2017, her professional journey in public art began as she assisted Patrick Marold Studios in installing “Contrails” at Dallas Love Field in Dallas, Texas. Since 2016, Glory has actively built and exhibited her own sculptures, alongside creating jewelry, all while navigating and conquering various external and internal challenges.
For the Lubbock Arts Festival, Glory has created four sculptures called “The Delightful Fantasy Flowers.” Each flower measures over 13’ tall and has bright, colorful petals and multiple heads and stems. According to the artist, “The ‘Delightful Fantasy Flowers’ are made of steel and imagination, brightly painted to bring joy and wonder to everyone who sees them. Their shapes are reminiscent of flowers found in nature, but these flowers are alien to the planet, with their origins only found in dreams.”
Following their showcase at the Arts Festival, these sculptures will be “planted” on concrete pads at various major highway intersections in Lubbock as part of the Public Display of Art (PDA) project by the Lubbock Arts Alliance. These “Fantasy Flowers” will grace the cityscape for the next two years.
n This exhibit is made possible by the Sessions Family Foundation. This project made possible in part through a grant from the City of Lubbock as recommended by Civic Lubbock, Inc. Viewing of the artwork is included with general admission.
Growing up in New York City, Clayton Stephenson found musical inspiration in community programs. As he describes it, the “Third Street Music School jumpstarted my music education; the Young People’s Choir taught me phrasing and voicing; Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program introduced me to formal and rigorous piano training, which enabled me to get into Juilliard Pre-College; the Morningside Music Bridge validated my talent and elevated my self-confidence; the Boy’s Club of New York exposed me to jazz; and the Lang Lang Foundation brought me to stages worldwide and transformed me from a piano student to a young artist.”
Clayton graduated from the Harvard-New England Conservatory (NEC) dual degree program in spring 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in economics at Harvard and a master’s degree in piano performance at NEC under Wha Kyung Byun. And his accolades along the way have been bountiful: his appearance at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition was lauded for his
“extraordinary narrative and poetic gifts” and performances that were “fresh, incisive and characterfully alive” (Gramophone), earning him a spot among the finalists. He has also been named a 2022 Gilmore Young Artist; 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts; Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist; Gheens Young Artist; and Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation.
On the 69th United Nations Day, Clayton played with the International Youth Orchestra at the U.N. General Assembly Hall. He appeared in the “GRAMMY® Salute to Classical Music” Concert at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.
