PROUD SUPPORTER OF
Dear Friends of the Lubbock Symphony,
On behalf of the entire Lubbock Symphony family, I am thrilled to welcome you to tonight’s highly anticipated performance, the Dreaming of You Tribute to Selena. This evening is a special occasion, not just for us as an orchestra, but for our community as we come together to celebrate the life and legacy of the Queen of Tejano music.
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez’s influence transcends generations and cultures. Her music continues to inspire, and her spirit remains a vibrant part of our lives. It is with this deep respect and admiration that we present tonight’s tribute, blending the powerful sounds of a full symphony orchestra with the timeless hits that made Selena a global icon.
Whether you are a lifelong fan or are discovering her music anew, we hope this evening resonates with you in a meaningful way.
Tonight is just the first taste of our exciting 2024-25 season. We have a year of incredible performances ahead, and I personally invite you to join us again at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences on September 19 for our Masterworks season opener, Beethoven Strikes Again.
A special heartfelt thank you to our special guest Isabel Marie Sanchez, our wonderful LSO musicians on stage tonight, and my amazing team working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this production to life.
Our board and team extend the deepest gratitude to Amigos and the entire United Family for generously partnering with us on this concert. Your commitment to the arts and bringing great artists to Lubbock and the South Plains can be seen tonight. Thank you, Amigos and United.
We’re grateful to have you with us this evening, and we look forward to seeing you throughout the season. Please enjoy the performance!
Galen Wixson President & CEO Lubbock Symphony

Isabel Marie is a recording artist who began singing at the age of two. She was born in Chicago, Illinois and splits her time between Chicago and San Antonio. Sanchez began singing professionally at the age of nine. Following her family’s relocation to San Antonio, Texas. After a few years of performing for various politicians and community events Isabel was performing at Market Square when Sabado Gigante reached out to her, inviting her to participate in the Father’s Day edition of the show. Sanchez performed “La Malagueña” on the show, winning the competition. She rose to fame at the age of 11 years old, bolstered by her participation in the third season of La Voz Kids. Where Isabel performed “Cucurrucucú Paloma”, this performance earned her the admiration of the judges and audience, eliciting a standing ovation from them. Spanish singer Natalia Jiménez was effusive in her praise of Sanchez, referring to her as having “a voice of a Goddess” and being an “exceptional vocalist”. In 2014, People en Español invited Isabel to sing the National anthem and bestow upon Don Francisco the Icon of the Year Award.
Sanchez’s recording of Daniella Romo’s, “De Mí Enamórate ‘’ caught the attention of Abraham Quintanilla. Abraham contacted Sanchez and presented her with an opportunity to record two songs . The swift recording of both songs, accomplished in just 45 minutes, culminated in Abraham submitting them for radio airplay. He then offered Sanchez a five-year recording contract through his label, Q-Productions, under his and Suzette Quintanilla’s guidance. Abraham was confident in his decision to sign Sanchez, as he regarded her as having the entire package sought by record companies, encompassing “talent, youth, personality, stage presence, and image”. Sanchez debuted her studio album, New Girl in Town, in 2016, receiving critical acclaim. The album featured “Fallaste Corazón”, “Pero Cómo Voy A Olvidar” and “Un Beso”, all of which appeared on the Tejano Gold Countdown. Isabel broke the record in being the first and youngest to have not only 1 but 3 Singles at the same time ever on Tejano Gold Countdowns Top 20. Isabel was invited to The National LULAC Convention to perform the United States National Anthem and a special tribute to the National President four years in a row. She has had the honor to perform The National Anthem for many dignitaries as well as for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
Sanchez performed at the 2016 Fiesta de la Flor, and opened the festival with a fusion of Tejano and pop songs to a crowd of “hundreds of fans”. Isabel was also invited to be one of two artists chosen to perform for the official Selena MAC- Worldwide makeup Launch in Corpus Christi, TX. In 2016 performed with the San Antonio Symphony for the Fiesta Pops Concert .She also Performed and was featured at many of the Worldrenowned Rodeo Stock shows. In 2016 Isabel Received The All Star Ambassador Award from Network For Young Artist. She also Received the Distinguished honor of being a recipient of La Prensa of San Antonio Leadership Awards. In 2017 Isabel was honored at the Texas State Capitol with a House Members resolution for her contribution to the Arts/Community Service and Leadership in the Latino Community. Isabel was honored with the title of LULAC District XV Sweetheart 2017. Her second appearance at the 2017 Fiesta de la Flor was met with widespread acclaim, with Esther Isabel
Marie Biography 2024 Hakleman of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times referring to Sanchez as a “young vocal powerhouse”.
Sanchez’s second studio album, Sígueme (2017), was “hugely successful”. Sanchez singled out her rendition of Selena’s “Dreaming of You”, featured on Sígueme, as the track that meant the most to her. She was honored to record it at the behest of Abraham. The recording session for “Dreaming of You” was an emotionally charged affair, with all those present, including Abraham Quintanilla himself, overcome with emotion in the recording booth.
At the 2017 Tejano Music Awards, Sanchez won Best New Female Artist at the age of 15, setting the record for the youngest participant of the award. Sanchez was a nominee for three awards at the 2018 Tejano Music Awards, Album of the Year for Sígueme, Song of the Year for “Porque Tu No Estas”, and Female Vocalist of the Year.
Sanchez performed at the first Tejano Music Hall of Fame Awards in April 2018, where she won Best New Artist. Sanchez won Top Female Artist at the My Tejano Awards in Mission, Texas and performed a tribute to Laura Canales. She released her third album, Xoxo - Hugs and Kisses, that same year, and reached the top-ten of iTunes’ Latin Albums sales chart. In 2019, Sanchez headlined the entertainment concert at the Viva Quad Cities event at LeClaire Park in Davenport, Iowa, where Tar Macias of Hola America hailed her as a vocalist with “powerful vocals and wide range”. Sanchez was a nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2019 Tejano Music Awards. On December 31, 2019, Sanchez released her fourth album, IV. The album included a cover of José Alfredo Jiménez’s “Cuatro Copas”, which Sanchez recorded as a duet with Kumbia All-Starz vocalist Ramon Vargas, and a Mazz medley that was dedicated to Jimmy Gonzalez. Isabel was honored to be one of the youngest artists at 15 years old to be invited to perform a full musical program with Symphonies across the country. Where she has performed the only tribute approved by Selena’s family and estate. “The Music of Selena” has sold out crowds in San Diego California, Houston Texas, Portland Oregon, San Francisco California, San Antonio Texas, Ft-Worth Texas, and Denver Colorado.
Her fifth album, 1st independent album Una Ilusion (2022), earned her a nomination for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album. Where she was a co-producer alongside Carlos Alvarez. Isabel continues to tour with her band and symphonies across the country and most recently was invited and graced the Empower Field for the singing of our national anthem for NFL team “The Broncos” in Denver, CO.
Since the pandemic Isabel Marie continues to influence her fans and inspire her fan base through her social media accumulating 368,000 fans across her social media pages. Sanchez has been active in charitable and non-profit organizations.
Here are some of the organizations Isabel Marie has helped by donating her time and her voice: LULAC ( League of United Latin American Citizens), Network for Young Artist (Ambassador), St. Jude Children Research Hospital, Salvation Army, Veterans Association, CRIT USA / Teleton USA, C.I.O.C (Cancer is one cancer), Jimenez Thanksgiving, AUEDA- PInatas in the Barrio, San Antonio FIESTA Commission, Paseo Del Rio Association, Eva’s Heroes to name a few.

For over 78 seasons, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra has been a bridge between the world’s top performers and the heart of the Hub City. Whether it’s up-and-coming talent or seasoned professionals, we take pride in showcasing the rich musical culture of our region to the world. Now, it’s time to turn up the volume and make it clear that Lubbock is a destination not to be missed.
The meaning of CRESCENDO is a gradual increase. In 1963, the Lubbock Symphony introduced the legendary pianist Van Cliburn, who performed with our local orchestra. Similarly in 1993, the Lubbock Symphony garnered attention by hosting a series of concerts featuring pop singer Tony Bennett. Since then, the orchestra has had the privilege of hosting notable performers such as Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Wynton Marsalis, Susan Graham, Renée Fleming, Boyz II Men, and Kristin Chenoweth. The Symphony has also paid tribute to renowned artists like Queen, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Wicked The Musical, and Aretha Franklin. These performances hold a special place in the hearts of many members of our community, as they are cherished memories. This is why we strive to keep creating unforgettable experiences that can be treasured by future generations.
Did you know that only one-third of our annual budget comes from ticket sales? The remaining funds mainly come from music supporters in the community, like yourself. Crescendo aims to AMPLIFY your support of our evolving mission to bring the most prominent names in music to the Hub City.
You can add your name today to the expanding list of benefactors, who are leaving their mark on the Hub City and building a legacy of performances for generations to come.
Please join us with your gift to Crescendo today!
