Murder, romance AND comedy! The three best ingredients for a fun suspense-filled evening of theatre! This fast-moving, highly tense whodunit treats the audience to a remote mansion, a sleazy blackmailer, a trench coat clad detective and even a dark and stormy night. A once-wealthy mother and son struggle to keep up appearances at the old mansion but when a maid is murdered, everyone becomes a suspect.

Meet the Cast (in alphabetical order) Brian Ash (Lord Clapham, Master of the Justice, Chef Trio, Ensemble) spent almost 30 years as a performer and production manager for The Capitol Steps, Washington DC’s premiere musical political satire group. While with the troupe, Brian performed across the country and entertained thousands, including two U.S. presidents. Now he is overjoyed to be joining LTA for Something Rotten!

Extra special thanks and much love to Darlene and Perrin for picking up all the slack and letting him go a little crazy.

Marcus Barbret (Bard Boy, Ensemble) is very excited to be taking part in his first musical role in many years and is very thankful for his friends and family that were able to make it out to see this fantastic show!

Brittany Bolick (Ensemble) is excited to bob her head and shake her hiney in what is definitely her dad’s favorite musical.

Brittany is also a law student at Georgetown and recently performed there in the Georgetown Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s production of Legally Blonde as Margot. Previously, she also danced her way through Charlottesville performing in Urinetown, Sweet Charity, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Godspell and The Producers at various theaters there. Brittany is also a ballet teacher at Dance Academy of Virginia for McLean’s smallest dancers and is on the board at TAP. Daniel Boos (Peter Quince, Ensemble) is excited to be in his first production with LTA, despite having worked a bit with Frank and Chris in high school. Since then, he’s performed various roles, including the Marquess of Queensberry in Gross Indecency (William & Mary Theatre), Dev in Stupid F***ing Bird (Port City Playhouse) and a ghost in Ruddigore (Georgetown Gilbert and Sullivan Society). He thanks his family, Carolyn, Sean, Frank and Chris for their support, reminding him to keep theatre in his life. He also thanks the staff, cast and crew for being so hardworking and welcoming.

Meet the Cast Paul Caffrey (Brother Jeremiah) last appeared in LTA’s production of Oliver! (Bill Sykes) many years ago and after a few acting classes at LTA is now getting back on the stage to join some talented heathens for a brilliantly vile and offensive production. He hopes you enjoy…

Katie Conn (Portia) is pleased to be returning to the theatre and making her debut with LTA! Previously Katie has appeared as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Johanna in Sweeney Todd and Julie in Carousel. Katie received her M.M. in vocal performance from Westminster Choir College and has made vocal appearances at the Kimmel Center and cabaret performances at Don’t Tell Mama and the West End Lounge in NYC. Many thanks to the production crew for their time, dedication and wisdom in helping to bring this show together!

Jack Dalrymple (Nigel Bottom) is thrilled to be working on his first production with LTA. He currently studies musical theatre at James Madison University, and some past roles include Curtains (Frank Cioffi), Footloose (Ren) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Flute). He would like to thank his parents for their constant support.

Chuck Dluhy (Nostradamus) has been seen at LTA in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (D’Ysquith Family), The Nance (Chauncey) and God of Carnage (Michael). With 100-plus stage credits to his name, other favorites include Any Given Monday (Mick), Glengarry Glen Ross (Ricky Roma), Shrek The Musical (Lord Farquaad), The Addams Family (Uncle Fester), Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Lumière), Les Misérables (Thénardier) and A Chorus Line (Paul).

Meet the Cast (continued) Peter Fannon (Shylock) Last seen as Charles Dickens narrating LTA’s 2020 A Christmas Carol, Peter is delighted to be part of this silly, brilliant, altogether “Rotten” musical with such a terrific team, and he thanks his high school drama teacher for casting him in his first musical in seventh grade. Forever thanks, too, to LTA’s volunteer leaders for keeping the house open and the stage filled over the past two actually rotten COVID years, and for once again welcoming full-house seating with this show!

Odette Gutierrez del Arroyo (Ensemble) After a five-year hiatus, Odette is thrilled to be back onstage and incredibly happy to be in her first production with LTA! Previous credits include Anita in West Side Story, Vivienne in Legally Blonde The Musical and Catherine in Pippin. Odette would like to thank her husband, Jake, their son, Luca, and the rest of her family for their continued support throughout this process. She would also like to thank her castmates for all their hard work and dedication to this production. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Julia Hornok (Ensemble, Dance Captain) is a classically trained Texas-born actor, singer and dancer. She recently graduated from John Brown University, where she studied mathematics and musical theatre. She is a two-time Irene Ryan nominee for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for her roles as Amy March in Little Women (spring 2021) and Cinderella in Into the Woods (fall 2021). Julia has performed in master classes for the world-renowned New York City contemporary commercial music expert Jeannette LoVetri; Tyler McKenzie (Broadway’s Hamilton and Mamma Mia!); Ramone Owens (Broadway’s Beetlejuice and Motown); the Moscow Ballet Traveling Company principal dancers, Jiri Sebastian Voborsky and Ms. Sol Maisonet with Ballet Magnificat. She has trained in various genres of dance for 16 years, including classical ballet, musical theatre jazz, tap and jazz.

Matt Liptak (Nick Bottom) is excited to be returning to the LTA stage this summer after a three-year hiatus. Liptak last appeared on the LTA stage in The Fantasticks as Mortimer/The Man Who Dies. Notable roles in the DMV include Bobby in Company (MCP), Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show (LTA—LTA Award winner), Patsy in Spamalot (LTA—WATCH nominee), Bobby Strong in Urinetown (DS) and Nicky/Trekkie Monster in Avenue Q (LTA—WATCH nominee). Liptak thanks his friends, his family and Kieran for their constant love and support.

J.P. McElyea (Francis Flute, Eyepatch Man, Ensemble) is excited for his first performance at LTA. He has seen Something Rotten! on Broadway three times, and it is one of his favorite shows! His favorite past credits include IQ in Hairspray (RMT), Lucas in The Addams Family (Chalice) and Ed in Evil Dead The Musical (DS). He also regularly performs at the DC Improv with his sketch comedy troupe, Bad Medicine, and has performed comedy for audiences all over the country, including Philadelphia, NYC, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco.

Luke Martin (Tom Snout, Chef Trio, Bard Boy, Ensemble) is so excited to be onstage for the very first time! Theatre has always been one of his passions, and he was able to perform in 10-15-minute plays in high school and college. He is honored and thrilled to be making his official theatre debut at LTA in Something Rotten! Luke is thankful for the support he has received from friends and family to pursue his passion for theatre.

Amanda Mason (Ensemble) is thrilled to be performing in her first LTA production in the ensemble of Something Rotten!

She was recently seen as Edwin Drood/Alice Nutting in The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Workhouse Arts Center. Some of her favorite roles include Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte (James Madison University), Penny Lou Pingleton in Hairspray (Alliance Theatre) and Evita in Evita (Chantilly Drama). She would like to thank her friends and family for their endless love and support as well as the cast and crew of this wonderful production!

Meet the Cast (continued) Josh Mutterperl (Bard Boy, Horatio, Ensemble) is a rising sophomore who is double majoring in biology and classical studies at The College of William and Mary. Some of his previous credits include King Arthur in Camelot with Sinfonicron Light Opera Company, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet with Shakespeare in the Dark, and Posner in The History Boys right here at LTA. He would like to thank his brother Noah, who has always supported and paved the way for him, and he would also like to thank the LTA community for its generosity, passion and professionalism.

Noah Mutterperl (he/him) (Shakespeare) Recent theatre credits: Next to Normal (Gabe), Pippin (Pippin), Romeo and Juliet (Romeo), Parade (Slaton), Twelfth Night (Andrew), James and the Giant Peach (Ladahlord). Cheers to my kin and Alyssa, my heart; This blesséd cast who grace our stage with art; Enjoy this boisterous and whimsical play; If thou hast eggs, make thy omelette today. @noah_ mutterperl Eddie Perez (Bard Boy, Ensemble) has a very long and boring list of theatre accomplishments from his high school days but has not been in a full-length production for more than seven years, and a musical for more than eight. He is delighted to finally be back onstage. I owe it all to Mom and Dad. Anna Phillips-Brown (Bea) is delighted to be making her LTA debut! Previous credits: Ordinary Days (Deb, NextStop Theatre), Legally Blonde (Paulette), Little Women (Aunt March, Catholic University), Madeline’s Christmas (Miss Clavel, Creative Cauldron), Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife), Side Show (Violet, MC Summer Dinner Theatre), Side Show (Daisy), Evita (Evita, Theatre Lab), as well as performances at Signature Theatre, Arena Stage and The Kennedy Center.

Mary Rodrigues (Ensemble) is overjoyed to be joining her first production at LTA. She is a recent graduate of the Honors Conservatory at the Theatre Lab in DC and has appeared in their productions of Blood Brothers and Working. Mary is so grateful for the wonderful support from her teachers, friends and fiancé. Their positive encouragement has brought music and dance back into her life.

Andrew Sanchez (Minstrel, Snug, Chef Trio, Bard Boy, Ensemble) is excited to be in a musical after 2½ years. He has appeared in many shows at three different theatres in Georgia, including Beauty and the Beast (TM), Anything Goes (PP) and Shrek The Musical (MLT). His favorite roles have been Paul Bratter in Barefoot in the Park and Eddie Souther in Sister Act (musical). “I hope you enjoy the show! Welcome to the Renaissance!”

Lourdes Turnblom (Ensemble) is so excited to be back onstage as an ensemble member in LTA’s Something Rotten!

This will be her first performance since the lockdown, but most recently she could be found playing Gingy in Shrek The Musical and entertaining audiences as Aunt Eller in Oklahoma! Lourdes received a B.S. in marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also acted in short films and was the music director for an on-campus a cappella group. She wants to thank her amazing family and all her friends for always supporting her passion!

Evan Zimmerman (Robin, Ensemble) is extremely excited to appear in his first production with the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Currently working toward his B.F.A. in musical theater at George Mason University, Evan wants to thank all those who have and continue to push/support him in his training. Credits include Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Gerard Carrier in Phantom, Pete in Almost Maine, Truffaldino in A Servant of Two Masters and a featured soloist in Mason Cabaret. Meet the Crew (in alphabetical order) Rachel Alberts (Co-Producer) has produced a grand total of 10 shows at LTA in addition to directing, producing and writing plays for children for a dozen years. She is a three-time recipient of LTA’s Award for Excellence in Producing, served on the Board as the Governor for Public Relations and Governor for Education and is a proud recipient of Alexandria’s Salute to Women Award for Cultural Affairs.

Helen Bard-Sobola (Co-Properties Design) is happy to be working with and for LTA. She has missed the collaboration of theatre. Helen is thankful for such a great production team and wishes the cast and crew a big breaking of legs. Peace and love!

Robert S. Barr Jr. (Set Design) is honored to have this show as his first full set design! Rob has worked on multiple productions in the past as a set piece designer/builder, prop builder, painter and tech and has worked on productions including The Nance (LTA), A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (LTA), The Belle of Amherst (LTA), The Explorers Club (WAC) and multiple pieces for traveling productions.

Luana Bossolo (Co-Set Painting) has been painting LTA sets for over a decade. Past shows include Rabbit Hole, A Christmas Carol, The Full Monty, Spamalot, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Fabulous Lipitones, The Audience, Harvey, The Fantasticks and Fences. She has also worked wardrobe and set dressing and produced. She is delighted to be working again with director Frank Shutts, producers Rachel Alberts, Bobbie Herbst and Russell Wyland and the A-team set builders.

Margaret Chapman (Co-Properties Design) is excited to be back working props after most recently producing Blue Stockings for LTA. The past few years, she has been designing props and producing shows for LTA, SMP, and Fat and Greasy Citizens Brigade, including You Can’t Take It With You, August: Osage County, Sister Act The Musical, Evita and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). She also serves on the LTA Council and as the President of the SMP Board of Directors.

Sherry Clarke (Co-Stage Manager) first “dabbled in the arts” with the typical neighborhood plays as a child. Fast forwarding through her late teens/early twenties, she was firmly ensconced in high school/college plays and musicals and began a very gratifying 13-year career as a vocalist based out of Seattle, traveling north to Alaska (quite literally) and south along the western coastline. LTA provided a new home in which to explore her theatrical roots once again, and she’s very pleased and excited to be working with the amazing cast and crew of Something Rotten!

David Correia (Sound Design) has done sound designs for area community theaters, including recent productions of [title of show] and The Bluest Eye (DS); Prelude to a Kiss, Bright Star and The Revolutionists (LTA); Sweeney Todd (Rooftop Productions); and The Explorer’s Club (Lorton Workhouse).

Previous notable LTA productions include Hairspray (2011 WATCH Award for Sound Design in a Musical), Spamalot (2014 WATCH Nomination for Sound Design in a Musical), Proof (2014 WATCH Nomination for Sound Design in a Play) and The Nance (2018 WATCH Nomination for Sound Design in a Play).

Ken and Patti Crowley (Lighting Design) are excited to be working with Frank, Chris and Stefan once again at the Little Theatre. Their most recent designs include LTA’s Fences, Rumors and The Nance; RCP’s Peter and The Starcatcher, Aida and Gypsy; PWLT’s Sister Act; DS’s [title of show] and Blue Fish Cove; and TAP’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and She Loves Me. Other noteworthy designs include Curtains, Picnic, The Secret Garden, The Will Rogers Follies, Widdershins, Into the Woods, Blithe Spirit, Das Barbecü, The Teahouse of the August Moon and I Hate Hamlet. They are the recipients of numerous awards, including LTA, RCP, FCT and WATCH Awards for their lighting design. They want to dedicate their design to the audience as they return to live theatre.

Meet the Crew (continued) Jacquanna Davis (Assistant to the Director) is honored to be a part of this production and working alongside the director. She has grown up loving theater all her life and mostly participated in church drama ministry as a writer, actor and director. LTA/TAP has given her the ability to spread her wings as a rehearsal stage manager for Across a Crowded Room (TAP) and lighting technician for Wait Until Dark and Fences (LTA). Jacquanna is appreciative of the classes and opportunities our community theaters offer, and she is especially thankful for her husband’s love and support as she grows and learns her craft.

Bobbie Herbst (Co-Producer) co-produced LTA’s The Secret Garden, A Christmas Carol (X3), Company, 33 Variations, Rabbit Hole, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, The Game’s Afoot, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harvey, Spamalot and more. She is a humble recipient of LTA’s New Member Award, the Outstanding Service to LTA Award and three co-producing awards for The Secret Garden, 33 Variations and Spamalot. Meet the Crew (continued) Mary Hutzler (Co-Set Painting) has enjoyed painting theater sets at ACCT, LTA and PCP. In 2005 and 2012, respectively, her work for It Runs in the Family and Heaven Can Wait won the LTA Pearl Award for Excellence in Set Painting. She was nominated for WATCH Awards for It Runs in the Family; Heaven Can Wait; Move Over, Mrs. Markham; and To Kill a Mockingbird with Luana Bossolo. Mary also designed sets for A Christmas Carol and Anne of Green Gables. Many thanks to the producers for inviting her to join this fantastic team!

Karey Kirkpatrick (Author, Songwriter) began his career as a screen and songwriter for Disney Animation, where he penned The Rescuers Down Under and James and the Giant Peach. With more than a dozen feature films produced, screenplay credits include Chicken Run (Golden Globe nomi­nee for Outstanding Comedy), Charlotte’s Web, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Over the Hedge, which he also codirected. He directed the Paramount Pictures film Imagine That starring Eddie Murphy and co-pro­duced, wrote and performed on the film’s soundtrack.

He recently directed the Warner Brothers animated musical SMALLFOOT for which he also co-wrote the screenplay and the songs (with brother Wayne).

He has won a number of Tony, Oscar and Grammy awards and that number is zero. Other credits: husband of Nada, father of Sami, Maia and Finn.

Wayne Kirkpatrick (Songwriter) is the Grammy Award-winning songwriter of Change the World by Eric Clapton (Song of the Year). Top 10 singles include Every Heartbeat, Good for Me (Amy Grant); Wrapped Up in You (Garth Brooks); Boondocks, Bring It on Home, Little White Church (Little Big Town); Place in This World (Michael W. Smith). He is a multi-formatted song­writer with songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Faith Hill, Joe Cocker, Gabe Dixon, Trisha Yearwood, Babyface and Peter Frampton, among others. His songs have been featured in TV shows (Grey’s Anatomy, True Blood, Hart of Dixie) as well as feature films (Almost Famous, Phenomenon, Smallfoot). Wayne lives in Nashville with his wife Fran and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for 2018.

Robin Maline (Hair and Makeup Design) has had the pleasure of working on many shows in the greater DC area. Most recently, she served as a designer for Bright Star, Blue Stockings and Prelude to a Kiss here at LTA. She has been working as co-chair of Wigs and Makeup for LTA since November 2017. She would like to thank her parents, Rob and Karen, and her brother Charlie for their unending love and support as well as Susan Boyd for passing on her great wisdom. Enjoy the show!

MYKE (Set Dressing) is a forensic artist who fell into set dressing as an outlet for his love of antiquing and his many antique collections. While his latest set dressing was for The Belle of Amherst last spring, he has won numerous awards for both set dressing and design over the decades.

Myke has worked for many local theaters but prefers to call LTA his home, where he is a past president (’94-95 and ’97-98). In his “spare” time, Myke enjoys dressing his Victorian summer home in his hometown of Midland, MI. 21

Meet the Crew (continued) Jeff Nesmeyer (Co-Set Construction) is pleased to be working again with Jim Hutzler. He has been involved in set builds at LTA, PCP and DS since 2006. Jeff was nominated for WATCH awards for Anything Goes (LTA), Harvey (LTA) and Dracula (LTA). He has won three LTA Excellence in Set Construction awards for Harvey, Dracula and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. He thanks LTA for its confidence in his carpentry abilities, Jim for his camaraderie, and his wife, Diane, for her support.

John O’Farrell (Author) is one of the UK’s best known comic authors and script writers. Best-selling novels include The Best a Man Can Get, May Contain Nuts and The Man Who Forgot His Wife. Non-fiction includes An Utterly Impartial History of Britain, the political memoir Things Can Only Get Better and its recent sequel plus three collections of his satirical columns for The Guardian newspaper. O’Farrell’s books have been translated into thirty languages and adapted for BBC Radio and television. Winner, British Comedy Award. Previously a writer (and later panelist) on BBC’s Have I Got News for You and lead writer on ten series of ITV’s Spitting Image. Currently writing the sequel to Chicken Run and adapting one of his novels for Sony International Pictures.

Jennifer Rhorer (Co-Stage Manager) is delighted to be part of her first musical at LTA. She got her start stage managing Tales of the Lost Formicans at Spring Hill College some years ago. Thanks to Mom and Dad for their love and support.

Jean Schlichting and Kit Sibley (Co-Costume Design) have costumed many shows at LTA and around the DMV, winning a number of awards, including two WATCH Awards, for their work. In addition, they have worked with various school and community groups, teaching costume design and costuming events in the area. We are excited to work on Something Rotten! because what’s not to love about a show that combines Shakespeare and tap dancing! Many thanks to Frank, Russ, Bobbie, Rachel and all of our talented fabulous cast!

Frank D. Shutts II (Director) has been a member of LTA for 33 years and has directed 26 mainstage productions and taught in our education department. He is currently LTA’s President, having held that position previously (2000-04). Frank is a member of the Educational Theater Association and served as the resident/guest director for McLean and Bishop Ireton High Schools. An admitted Stratfordian and bardolater, he thanks Dorthie Kogelman for planting that seed in 1978. To his producers, production team, designers, cast, crew and Myke, Frank “can no answer make but thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks.”

Stefan Sittig (Choreographer) Stefan’s work has been seen in NYC (OffBroadway), internationally in Canada, Brazil and Uruguay, in DC at The Kennedy Center, Studio Theatre, 1st Stage, ATLAS, The Washington Savoyards, Open Circle Theatre, The American Century Theatre and Workhouse Arts Center, and for various regional theatres, universities and community theatres. For LTA: A Gentleman’s Guide, The Producers, The Nance, Legally Blonde, Anything Goes (also director), West Side Story, In the Heights, The Rocky Horror Show, Into the Woods and more.

He has received a Broadway World Award, two WATCH Awards and eight nominations, MFA Theatre, faculty GMU’s School of Theater. www. stefansittig.com Christopher A. Tomasino (Music Director) returns to LTA with Something Rotten!, having last music directed A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder pre-lockdown. He is very excited to be working once again with Frank and Stefan; our fantastic producers, Rachel, Bobbie and Russ; our wonderful stage managers, Sherry and Jennifer; and a highly talented cast, band and crew. This is the 34th production Chris has music directed at LTA. He has been honored to receive the WATCH Award for Music Direction on past LTA productions of In the Heights, Hairspray, Cabaret, Das Barbecü and The Who’s Tommy and has received the LTA Demaine Award for Music Direction on numerous productions. For over 30 years, Chris has been the music director for Bishop Ireton High School’s Theater Arts program. In real life, Chris is a vice president with Burke & Herbert Bank in Alexandria.

Meet the Crew (continued) Robin Worthington (Wardrobe Coordinator) has loved working with costumers and wardrobe crews on many LTA productions in the past 15 years. Her favorites are the musicals like Something Rotten!, helping a lively cast accomplish lightning-fast changes backstage to the beat of memorable tunes. A fan of the Bard (sorry, Nick), Robin seeks not to “go gentle into that good night and rages against the dying of the light,” preferring the beauty of LTA’s sunlit Shakespeare Garden and watching the players strutting their hour upon the brightly lit LTA stage.

Russell M. Wyland (Co-Producer, Technical Director, Rigging) has been a member of LTA since 1990. During his membership, he has volunteered for box office and front-of-house, props and wardrobe crews; he has designed sound, special effects and costumes and done set design and construction, set decoration, and his favorite, rigging. He has co-produced over 20 productions at LTA, including the musicals Hairspray and Spamalot, both of which won WATCH Awards for Outstanding Musical. Russ has served seven terms as LTA President and 10 terms as a governor, and he currently serves on the LTA Board of Financial Trustees.

The Council of the Little Theatre of Alexandria is a group of dedicated members who support financial projects for the theatre and provide numerous social events with dinners, receptions, and other member gatherings. The Council promotes and supports volunteerism throughout the theatre to ensure continued success in all areas, i.e., backstage, front of house, box office, etc.; we also provide need-based scholarship funding to support numerous adult and youth educational programs within the theatre.

The Council is proud to sponsor the Shakespeare Garden which has become a community favorite with many stopping in just to relax and “waste my time in it.”
