For this project we were tasked with re-branding an alternative or novelty museum. I was assigned The Museum of Bad Art, which is characterized by a sarcastic sense of humor and crude descriptions of their seemingly elementary work.
My logo mark, the middle finger, was created with one negative review in mind, “This museum is a middle finger to the art world.” Deciding to trust my instinct as a designer and use this motif was the most challenging part of this process, but once that decision was made, I was able to combine “the bird” with MOBA’s characteristically crude tone of voice and values to create a series of patterns, various touch points, and a quite unique brand book.
Despite being at a Christian University, this project won first place in my department. It was however banned from being showcased in my senior exhibit, for which I will forever be extremely proud and pissed off.
