Jake Rowell Jake Rowell graduated in August 2017 and is a native of Beaumont, Texas. He recently accepted a new position with Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Texas as the head baseball coach and Physics and Chemistry teacher. Jake obtained his bachelors in Health Sciences at the University of ArkansasLittle Rock while playing 4 years of baseball for the college. While completing his masters at LSU he was working at East Central Community College as an assistant baseball coach. Right now Jake enjoys being a high school baseball coach, and he looks forward to his future of becoming a college head baseball coach or athletic director of a high school. Congrats Jake and Good luck!

Alumni Update! Tyler Burke Tyler Burke is in her sixth month working for the Minnesota Vikings as in intern in the Leadership Rotational Program. The rotational program is designed to provide leadership while working in several different departments such as; Public Relations, Premium Seating, Ticket Sales and Marketing.
Chantae Haliburton Chantae began as a student worker for the Directors Office in Athletics during her undergraduate school years. When she began Graduate School, she was received a graduate assistant position where she assisted with business office needs. Upon graduation in May 2017, Chantae secured a full-time position in the Business Office as the Business Coordinator. As the Business Coordinator, she assists with athletic auditing, team travel and billing along with athletic departmental expenses.

Student Spotlight: Ashleigh Keller From Reserve, Louisiana, Ashleigh Keller graduated from LSU with a B.S. in Mass Communication, emphasis in Political Communication. She has been working with LSU Football Operations, and has some experience with Recruiting. In spring 2017, LSU Sport Management hosted the Applied Sport Management Association Annual Conference. Ashleigh was one of the students representing LSU in a case study competition at the conference. With the help of Dr. Mike Martinez and Dr. Chris Barnhill, this bright group of graduate students won the case study competition. Ashleigh likes the low faculty to student ratio for a better learning experience and faculty-student relationships.

Alumni Spotlight: Riann Elliott Riann Elliott is one of our recent graduates. A native of Colorado, she currently resides in Denver. She works with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment at the Pepsi Center, home of the Denver Nuggets. Riann joined the LSU online program in January of 2017 after her immediate supervisor encouraged her to consider LSU after explaining that he had a friend who participated in our program. She loves the flexibility of our online program allowing her to complete her studies around her work schedule and appreciates all that Dr. Martinez does for the online students. She completed the program in December of 2017 and hopes to continue on full-time with Kroenke Sports and Entertainment Group. Congrats Riann!

We congratulate Dr. Barnhill on his new position at Georgia Southern University, where he returns as an Associate Professor and undergraduate program coordinator. Barnhill starts the position in August 2018, after serving for three years on the faculty at LSU. Throughout his time in Baton Rouge, Barnhill was a valued faculty member and colleague, teaching courses in Sport Finance and Economic Issues both on-campus and online, as well as collaborating with other faculty members on several papers and presentations.

At the 2018 Applied Sport Management annual conference, LSU College of Human Sciences and Education Dean and LSU Sport Management Faculty member, Dr. Damon Andrew, was honored with the Lifetime Academic Achievement award. Dr. Andrew was one the highlighted speakers on the final day of the conference, which was hosted by Baylor University in Waco, TX.

SEC Commissioner Visits LSU Students
Spring 2018 Sport Management Research News As always, the LSU Sport Management faculty and students have been busy traveling to conferences across the country and internationally to help promote their individual research and LSU’s program. The following are highlights of those activities:
Dr. Chad Seifried led the Works-in-Progress Session at 2018 Applied Sport Management Association Conference, while Dr. Michael Martinez was presented his research in that event.
Dr. Per Svensson and Seungmin Kang (PhD Student) will travel to Columbia, SC in late March to participate in the 2018 Southern Sport Management Doctoral Symposium.
In March, Chad Seifried participated in the 2018 Sports Communication Summit- More than Just a Game: A Look at Public Funding in Sports
In March, Per Svensson was invited to present his research on sport for development to the LSU College of Human Sciences and Education’s Peabody Society.
In April, Drs. Barnhill and Seifried, along with Marcella Otto (PhD Student) will travel to the College Sport Research Institute annual conference in Columbia, SC.
In May, Dr. Chad Seifried and Benjamin Downs (PhD Student) will present at the North American Society for Sport History Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
In early June, Drs. Agyemang, Andrew, Barnhill, and Martinez will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, for the North American Society for Sport Management annual conference.
Dr. Chad Seifried will be in Chicago during August to attend and present at the 2018 Academy of Management Conference.
Service • In February, Mike Martinez completed his 3-year stint as Past President of the Applied Sport Management Association.
Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey visited with LSU Sport Administration and Sport Management students during a campus visit to LSU January 30. Commissioner Sankey provided the students with an inside look at the day-to-day activities of the SEC, as well as his viewpoints on what it takes to succeed in the industry.
