LEESBURG COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS

Curtis Wynn

LEESBURG CEREMONY COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER

Donna Davis

Curtis Wynn became SECO Energy’s CEO in December 2021. SECO Energy is the 7th largest electric distribution cooperative in the country. Wynn’s energy industry career is rooted in Florida. From 1981 to 1997, he worked at West Florida Electric Cooperative. His tenure culminated there as Vice President of Member Services, Information Technology, Marketing and Economic Development.

Wynn also served for 24 years as President and CEO of Roanoke Electric Cooperative in North Carolina before making the move to SECO Energy. Through this assignment, Wynn became the first African American in the United States to hold the position of Chief

LEESBURG CEREMONY STUDENT SPEAKER

Donna Davis, a proud Leesburg resident, found her passion for learning and

leadership during her time at Lake-Sumter State College. Throughout her journey, she earned recognition on the President’s List, was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and was selected as the 2025 student commencement speaker for the Leesburg campus.

At LSSC, Donna pursued her interests in both science and art, majoring in environmental studies while actively participating in the Student Art Society. She also balanced her academics with a role at Sprouts Farmers Market, helping others lead healthier lifestyles. One of her favorite memories was attending the Halloween Bash, a creative and fun way to connect with fellow students.

Executive Officer of a rural electric cooperative.

With a cooperative career that spans over 43 years, Wynn’s resume reflects a long list of ‘firsts’, awards and accomplishments. Throughout his career, Wynn has demonstrated his ability to bring forth diverse thinking, while deploying creative solutions that turn the challenges of the energy industry evolution into major opportunities. Service to other organizations is also an integral part of Wynn’s cooperative career history.

After graduation, Donna will intern at Lubee Bat Conservancy and continue her studies toward a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. She credits supportive faculty like Janice Gerrard, Raymond Wright, and Dr. Elizabeth Terranova for encouraging her growth and success.

Donna’s advice to new Lakehawks: “Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself—you’ll discover strengths you didn’t know you had.” She was most surprised by the personal support and community spirit she found at LSSC.

ACADEMIC REGALIA

Faculty Marshal

Serving as the faculty marshal at Lake-Sumter State College holds a special significance, marking years of services to the institution. The longest serving faculty member serves in this role and represents a legacy of commitment and service. The current faculty marshal is Nora Rackley, a Librarian who has served the College since 1995.

In ceremonial events like commencements and convocations, Nora leads the procession, carrying the college mace. Beyond its symbolic weight, this duty embodies the institution's pursuit of excellence and the faculty's collective dedication.

Adornments to Academic Regalia

Cords, stoles, medallions, and tassels representing various academic achievements or other honors are also worn at the discretion a degree-granting institutions. At LSSC, cords and stoles identify the academic discipline of baccalaureate candidates and recognize achievements such as graduation honors, membership in honorary societies or select groups, service in the U.S. Armed Forces, and other student leadership positions.

These adornments to the regalia must be reviewed and approved by the College’s Convocation Committee for inclusion in the academic regalia. Only approved adornments are allowed at Commencement ceremonies.
