Frank J. Lichtner

by Stephen F. Duncheskie J94 Asa teacher, Frank Lichtner was in the unique position to touch the hearts and minds of thousands of La Salle students in his Physical Education classes. He had the greatest job in America and would remind his colleagues of that often, particularly during exam time. "It's not my fault that I decided to major in Phys Ed. Have fun grading those papers, boys!"

The statements he made from the pool deck as coach of the Explorers were equally as profound - 25 consecutive Philadelphia Catholic League Championships, 4 straight Pennsylvania State Championships, an Eastern States Championship in 2004, 3 National Catholic titles, and a countless number of All-Americans and Olympic trial qualifiers. Impressive!

Frank loved the Catholic League and made sure he represented it well on the state and national level. Those that coached either with Frank or against him all respected his passion and precision as he coached his swimmers into champions. In fact, many of his early coaching opponents became his very best friends.

Coach Lichtner was the greatest motivator of all time and we would swim through any wall if we had to. He grew the program and reached new heights. First into Philadelphia Catholic League Champions, then National Catholic Champions, then his beloved Eastern States Champions, and then finally his four Pennsylvania State Championships.

We were all sons of Coach Lichtner- something he didn't let us forget.

- "Son, with my brains and your body, we can do great things."

-"Son, just score me points at the big meet."

-"Son, don't you know that your sole job is to get my name in the newspaper!"

- "Son, don't you know who I am? I won Easterns!"

- "Son, an A' in Phys Ed is only $20 bucks away."

-Son, son, son... We are all LOYAL sons of Frank Lichtner. High we hold your memory.

The word "beauty" has many interpretations but for me beauty means admiration or perfection. Everything about Coach Frank Lichtner was beautiful. In the way he coached, the way he taught, the way he interacted with his peers and with his students. He was-an amazing husband, father, colleague, mentor, friend, and coach. I am certain that the spirit and beauty of Frank Lichtner will live on in the hallways of La Salle College High School and through those pool doors for eternity.

The Blue and Gold, the yearbook of La Salle College High School, has been in continuous publication since the late 1920s and archived copies can be found throughout the school. The publication strives to capture the events of the school year through photographs and words. Staff members have the opportunity to develop skills in decision making and time management. In addition, they explore their own creative talents through writing, photography, photo selection, and page design.

The theme for the 2016 yearbook was Mobile Communications, based on devices that no teenage boy can be without. The cell phone and mobile device are integral part of our daily lives and the concept of those applications is well represented throughout the pages of the yearbook.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR The Class of 2016 entered La Salle College High School on September 4, 201 2 from 108 elementary schools and 75 zip codes, including two students from China. On June 4,2016, 257 seniors graduated during the 153rd Commencement Exercises.
