Members Making Waves Lee’s Summit Medical Center Ranks First Nationally in Stroke Patient Satisfaction Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System, is ranked number one nationally in patient satisfaction for stroke care among all HCA hospitals providing stroke care. The report showing the number one ranking is based on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, which is the first national, standardized and publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. “Our goal is to be the leader in patient satisfaction for the care we deliver,” says Lee’s Summit Medical Center Chief
Executive Officer Jackie DeSouza. “Achieving a number one ranking for our stroke patient care is a wonderful accomplishment, and we are very proud of Lee’s Summit Medical Center doctors, nurses and staff who make this happen.” The new data revealing high marks for Lee’s Summit Medical Center is the result of HCAHPS patient satisfaction surveys completed by Lee’s Summit Medical Center stroke patients for the third quarter 2011. The data was recently released publicly and is available to the public at
hospitalcompare.hhs.gov. The HCAHPS survey asks recently discharged patients about their hospital stay. The survey asks core questions about critical aspects of a patient’s hospital experiences, including communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and their recommendation of the hospital.
John Knox Village President Conquers Kilimanjaro John Knox Village President Dan Rexroth recently returned from climbing the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. Mount Kilimanjaro stands 19,340 feet above sea level and is located in northern Tanzania. Rexroth and his 31-year-old son, Phil, spent eight days hiking and camping in primitive conditions, making their way to the summit of Africa’s highest peak. Roughly 25,000 people annually attempt this expedition, but only about 60 percent reach the top. The climbers encountered several
forms of severe weather including rain, sleet, hail and bitter cold. Showers were non-existent, and tents were the sleeping quarters for the duration of the climb. The day of their final ascent, they were awoken at 11 p.m. to begin a brutal eight-hour night hike complete with -20 degree weather, 40-50 mileper-hour wind gusts and extremely thin air. The hikers finally reached the peak around 6:30 a.m. The journey was very difficult for Rexroth, but he accomplished his goal through perseverance and resolve. Although he learned that backpacking is not one of his passions, Rexroth said he learned
many life lessons and is “grateful to have a lifetime of shared experiences” with his son.

I joined the Chamber Leads Group and heard Lisa Pycior (Cartridge World-Lee’s Summit) and another member discussing their involvement with the Missouri Maverick’s Hockey Team. I thought this sports team would be a great fit for Xtreme. They were happy to share their contact with me.

We followed up with Greg Bergen with the Mavericks and learned they were in need of a fitness center for their athletes. Xtreme Family Fitness & Gymnastics is now the Official Fitness Center of the Missouri Mavericks! We love to see the players and staff in the gym and frequently have a vendor table at the games to interact with the fans. Most recently, we had Xtreme Night at the Mavericks where we
participated in the puck drop, rode the zamboni, gave everyone in attendance a free month membership and took 30 of our staff to watch the game. Xtreme thanks the networking of Chamber members for our partnership with the Mavericks! Have you made a great business connection with a member? Email your story to Cathy Young, firstname.lastname@example.org.

Is Trust Out of Reach?
April 10, 2012 • 7:30–8:30 a.m. • John Knox Village, Courtyard B Presenter: Bill Regan, hopeyourselfUP Sponsor: Greg Olinger Financial & Insurance Services In one phrase, “trust is out, skepticism is in.” “Just trust me”, just won’t cut it! Since 2008, we have conditioned ourselves to live in the post-trust era. Whether we are trying to sell something -a product, a service, or an idea, we now face a new type of consumer. One who listens less and who questions our fine print more. To engage today’s customer in this post-trust era, a new language of trust and credibility is needed. Attend this timely presentation and learn how to structure your message to overcome your clients’ doubts. Learn the importance of putting engagement before
discussion, context before specifics and placing their interests before yours. Discover how words, phrases, symbols, and the appropriate flow of a conversation affect how your prospects, clients and co-workers trust you and your message.
