Did you know: Every year your retirement benefits are under attack? Since 2016, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA) has successfully opposed over 25 bills that would have negatively affected your retirement system or retirement benefits. We have also successfully supported legislation that benefits retired teachers. This year, we successfully supported the passage of SB18 (now Act 184) that changes the way COLAs are funded, and will eventually provide COLAs every two to three years. This is thanks to nearly 20,000 members supporting our advocacy efforts! We cannot stop now. We must confinue to advocate for preserving and enhancing the benefits of retired teachers. LRTA was incorporated in 1956 to be the voice of the retired education community, representing its interests by monitoring, protecting and improving the benefits needed to secure dignity, independence and overall quality of life. Today, LRTA is the only membership organization in Louisiana devoted solely to meeting the needs of the retired education community. LRTA works diligently to advocate on behalf of Louisiana’s retired educators. Each legislative session, we evaluate bills that could affect retirees.
