OFFICER SOCIAL The Lake Ridge officers had a pool party in the middle of June to have one last last Key Club hang out with the graduated officers and further bond with this next school year's officer board. We swam, played volleyball, shared stories, ate dinner, and discussed plans for the future. We are looking forward to this next chapter.

Letter from the Editor Hey, fellow Key Clubbers!

Welcome back to The Talon of T-O! I hope you all are having a great summer! This past month, I was a part of the pit orchestra for our school district's summer musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, and have been working and volunteering. Our officers are planning a lot of exciting things for this next school year, so continue to stay tuned on our instagram and the remind!

Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, serve, get sleep, and continue to nurish your body as well as hang out with your friends and family!! Whatever you do, try to enjoy this last month and a half of summer before we go back to school (: With that being said, enjoy this month's edition of The Talon of T-O! Yours in Service,

A New Perspective Madison Nguyen

Webmaster (2021-2022) & Current Vice President Knowing how busy I would be during the school year, I signed up to be a team leader at Camp Invention for a week. Although I am not the biggest fan of kids, I would earn 40 hours from working here, and I was not going to pass up the opportunity. With the hours being my motivation, I got ready to deal with the loud, snotty kids for a week

Although I am not an enormous fan of kids, I like to say that I can still get along with them. However, I was quickly proven wrong when the first few kids started rushing into the cafeteria. I am not sure if it was just nerves, but I had no idea how to interact with them.

Maybe it is because I do not hang out with 5th and 6th graders daily, but I was not having the best time. Not to mention that this was especially concerning since I was only checking them in. With this, I started mentally preparing myself for an awful week. Flash forward about two hours, and I am having a blast! I know, very anti-climatic.

Maybe I just got lucky with my group of kids, but this week ended up being a highlight of this year. Who knew helping kids make marble arcades, space backpacks, and aquariums could be so enjoyable? At the end of camp, I even bought them cookies and spent 3 hours writing each of them a letter. This much effort was strange for a person who supposedly hates kids, in my opinion. However, that is what is so funny to me. For the longest time, I always expressed how much I disliked children. Could one week be able to change my mind that much? The answer is yes.

Spending time with people from different walks of life can change your outlook on life so much. Maybe it was their bright ideas or innocence, but they inspired me so much. Growing up, you change the way you think and act to fit societal standards. However, when you are young, you focus less on that. These kids did not care about what their peers thought of them. Without that pressure on them, they were able to let their creativity flow. This resulted in them coming up with the craziest yet most amazing ideas I have ever heard.

Even though I came to camp with a superficial mindset, I am glad to say that it changed. Opportunities like this come from volunteering, though. With all the possible events that you can attend, you never know what is going to happen; you never know what you are going to learn about others or yourself. Looking back, I find it a bit upsetting that I will never be as creative or intelligent as those children. However, it looks like the future is in good hands!
