Letter from the Editor

Hey Key Clubbers!

I hope this school year is going well for you! To me, being a senior is a little stressful, but I have been having fun with Key Club and I get to experience many new opportunities, which I'm super grateful for! Especially through our few first meetings, I want to thank you guys for participating in activities and positively making an impact on our club!

A quick reminder for you guys is that don't forget to turn in your membership application form and pay the fee of $13 by November 12th. There are forms and hours log available in front of room A337 so you can come to get them anytime. Also, don't be hesitant to reach out to our officers whenever you have questions, we are always here to help!

On September 18th, a conference was held at Cleburne High School, which provided interesting opportunities for the officers to communicate and have fun activities together.

Annette Perry Elementary School 5K fundraiser and carnival event in Mansfield. Besides joining the run, we helped to direct kids, provided water at stations, and had so much fun!

Our Key Club members went to set up and assisted in organizing at the Color Their World banquet of Allies In Youth at Walnut Creek Baptist Church. After that, we cleaned up and had fun taking pictures.

CHANGES TO KEY CLUB FEATURED ARTICLE BY KHANG VU

Prior to me joining Key Club, I knew I needed to contribute to my community. With the advice of my cousin, joining Key Club would result in one of my best decisions in life. Though I am content about where I am right now in the Lake Ridge Key Club, I still have changes that I am willing to accomplish to drive me for a better future-self.

To start, I want to help my teachers more for Key Club individual hours because as much as students need support from teachers, teachers just need as much assistance too. Teachers go through pressure and stress like students do, so since my teachers contribute to my success, this gave me the idea that I should help them too under the title of a Key Club member.

With less strain against my teacher due to my volunteering, my teachers will be able to persevere and gain motivation for their students and the rest of their year (and paycheck I guess). Though volunteering for my teachers requires time and energy, knowing that I can develop stronger chemistry between the teacher and I, enhance my loyalty towards the Key Club organization, and that I am building a better community is what continues to drive me to help my members of my school and community.

In addition to me wanting to volunteer for my teachers, another change of mine is to generally put more effort into Key Club. As of right now in my junior year, I sometimes put too much time towards academics and grades rather than my community service.

Sometimes, academics aren’t the most important aspect towards success; in fact, in some cases, you don’t need high quality grades to reach success. I understand that in a pandemic it is harder to find places to volunteer; however, that does not mean it gives me an excuse to contribute to volunteering less often. With Key Club not being at its fullest potential due to COVID, it is still possible, necessary, and an obligation for me to benefit the organization even if I am not a board member (or will I?).

To add, I want to volunteer more with friends. The reason why I want to volunteer specifically with friends is because they help with motivation and willingness to volunteer for events and the Mansfield community. I have encouraged my friends like John Desquitado and Reuben Lim to join Key Club to help all of us to increase social skills and a better understanding of the community.

In conclusion, it is my responsibility to be willing to volunteer for my teachers and putting more effort into Key Club in general will drive me to being a better individual. These changes may eventually lead me to becoming more influential among other Key Club members or even high school students.
