INSIGHT INTO THE MIND OF AN INCOMING TREASURER BY: KWAME MORRISON, TREASURER

Alright. Imagine this scenario: you’re a junior, wanting to run for a position, so you ask around for help. Everyone encourages you to run for treasurer because they believe that role best suits your best traits; little do they know you can’t math! You’ve never held a position in a club with so much involvement and you’re thinking to yourself, “Is this really th it.” This question eats away at you day and night after getting the news that you won the election. Fast forward to 1:20 A.M, the day of DCON. You still haven’t packed, and you find yourself asking the same question, “Is this really worth it.” You could be sleeping in right now, but instead you’re gonna be away for a whole weekend with which you could do a multitude of things. AP exams are also right around the corner and chemistry has you bent 104.9° every which way. At this point you might as well change your name to Sulfur Dichloride (if you know you know hehe). After finally deciding to give DCON a shot, you abruptly fall asleep (without actually packing). You wake up at 5:00 A.M., and slowly come to the realization that you haven’t packed anything. You say to yourself, “Diamonds form under pressure right” and go to take a shower, after

admiring your amazing sense of humor of course. It’s 5:40 A.M. and you shoot a quick message to your ride to see if they can come a little later; you still aren’t panicking because at this point your brain still isn’t on. You start packing all the essentials, everything you think you need, and thankfully you get everything in on time. You convince yourself that procrastination is really a talent that not many master, but you have. Your ride picks you up and you arrive at Sheraton, only to find out that it’s too late to submit the fire video that the homie Alan (shoutout to him) made. At this point, you start to come to the conclusion that this wasn’t worth it. After going to the forum for treasurers, you realize that the job doesn’t entail much outside what you’re familiar with, and that with your current skill set you can do it.

Your friends have hyped this event up so much and you don’t really see it until you guys go out for dinner. The bond that everyone displays melts your heart and you realize that Key Club is really a family.

Saturday comes, you’re happy because you finally see in DCON what everyone sees, but you’re sad because you’re leaving. You wake up late because you forget to set the alarm, and immediately throw a pillow at Alan, who is still slumped.

You do what you have to do, get ready, and realize that you guys are the definition of “drip” (no cap)! After a series of fun events, you’ve made a lot of new friends that you won’t forget anytime soon, and it’s

time for the Governor’s Ball. You go change, arrive at the scene, and one thought goes through your mind, “This is not as live as everyone makes it out to be” but… with a little help from Alan you manage to turn it up. Though the songs you requested didn’t get played, you walk out thinking to yourself, “This was definitely worth it.” You feel more in sync, and closer than ever, with the people you came it, and you walk out more knowledgeable than you walked in, though you’re very sad because you don’t want this moment to end. You say your goodbyes and leave, with part of you longing to go back; at this very point in time you’ve fallen in love with Key Club and what it stands for. If you haven’t already figured it out, this scenario describes my experience after being elected as the 2019-2020 Treasurer. I have made up my mind to give my all to the club in order to propel us forward, even to the point of being recognized as one of the top 10 clubs in the Texas-Oklahoma District. Key Club has given me a new passion and has changed my whole perspective on life, and I hope to impart with you guys that very same experience. So let’s all come together to make the incoming school year better than the last, at least in terms of key club!

UNICEF works to help children all around the world and is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of their rights.

CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK Children's Miracle Network treats 62 kids every minute — that's more than 10 million kids a year. Their mission is to generate funds and awareness programs for their 170 member hospitals.

MARCH OF DIMES

March of Dimes works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

THIRST PROJECT

The Thirst Project works to build a socially-conscious generation of young people to END the global water crisis.

A BITTERSWEET GOODBYE AND ANOTHER BEGINNING BY: GILLIANA TAWARAN, EDITOR

Having the opportunity to serve as an officer in my school’s Key Club for nearly four years is a blessing I have never expected to receive. I’ll admit, however, in the es when I seemed to take it for granted—discouragement in the process of turning in a newsletter and all—my fellow officers have never failed to give me reassuring words of encouragement. This past year, I made a conscientious effort to grow a deeper connection with our officer board and it’s safe to say that these were some of the hardest goodbyes I have encountered thus far. Maybe it was me letting go of my fear as an underclassman. Maybe it was my evergrowing love for this beautiful family. All I know for sure is, whatever it was, it is the reason I was able to meet some of the most beautiful hearts dedicated to serving others. For that, I am forever grateful. Thaovy, Kayla, and Diana, this one goes out to you.

Every statement saying that Key Club is a family is nothing less than the truth. For all the times they gave me a shoulder to cry on, for the times they pushed me to be a better version of myself, and for all the hard work and relentless dedication they put into our club: thank you. The service these girls have done have shaped people's spirits and

changed our community. Here is to the service they have done and will do in the future. I can't speak for them but I have seen a shift in who they were before and after Key Club and to say it has changed them for the better would be an understatement. They have taught me to never stop leading a life full of service because serving with your heart can change the world.

I guess you can say that the title of this article was misleading because this is no goodbye. This is merely a "see you later." Thanks to the service of these girls and so many others, the future of this club is bright and our new board is more than prepared for what's in store. So for one last time, thank you for your service.
