Allies in Youth Development: Every Sunday (excluding the 1st Sunday of every month) Time: 2-4 PM Location: 1315 Hwy 1187 Suite 115, Mansfield, TX 76063 Info: You will be packing boxes to send to orphans in Eastern Europe or organizing donations, such as clothing, toys, etc.

FreeRice: Anytime Hours: 1 hour for every 1,000 points Info: You will be going to FreeRice.com and doing the various activities to feed families around the world.

BY NEVA KHAN Key Club was the first high school club I ever joined and for me, that was a huge moment. Since the moment I graduated from middle school I had 20 different clubs I wanted to be a part of.

Key Club, however, was not on that list.

I had heard through the grapevine about Key Club, but it was never fully brought to my attention. So when I came across a club poster going into depth about it, it piqued my interest.

On a whim, I decided to go to their meeting and see what it was like. It is important to know that I just transferred here, meaning I barely knew anyone. So, going to this random meeting for a club I knew very little about was terrifying. Once I got there it was very anticlimactic, it was a regular informational meeting but they had a volunteer opportunity.

This volunteer opportunity is what led me to slowly, but surely, fall for this club. The premise of it was that we would meet up at Mission Arlington and do whatever work that they needed help with. I was nervous yet again to talk to my peers, starting high school with new people is one thing, but, going into a new club at the same time had me a bit shaken up.

Thankfully, when I did get to Mission Arlington, people were extremely nice and genuine to me.

That is one thing that I love about the community and friendships that have been formed in this club, we don’t have hidden agendas or ulterior motives. We are simply there to help the environment grow within a loving, caring community. Key Club exists to serve and to grow, and that is one thing I will truly cherish about this group of peers of mine.

One thing that I will stand by when it comes to this club, is that it is not just a club, it is a place to better yourself. A place to help others better themselves, and most especially a place where you can grow together. This is not a place where you come to just get hours or gain something cool to put on your college applications.

It may be like that for some people, but for me, if there is anything I have learned from being in this club it’s that being in this group isn’t about giving or getting, it is about growing.

Growth and change are two of the main attributes that I have learned to appreciate. Learning these things through myself, these people, and this group has truly allowed me to gain a better open mind, a more loving heart, and a home in itself.

K-Kids is a student-led program in which elementary school students are able to begin developing a strong character and passion for service.

Circle K International is a student-led service organization for college students.

Builders Club is a club for middle school students. Members are able to learn self-confidence and grow as leaders through teamwork and goal-setting.

Aktion Club is a service club for adults with disabilities. Members develop confidence and self-esteem through leadership roles and helping others.

Key Club is a service organization for high school students that provides members with opportunities to serve and develop character and leadership

Kiwanis International is a service organization comprised of adult volunteers who serve globally.
