DIRECTOR’S NOTES We bring you, Disney!! Mary Poppins is a show that’s entertaining to our whole school community! This show joins a long list of productions with characters who fly… Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, and now Mary Poppins. In recent years, the Warrior Hall stage has been home to gun shooting competitions, pirate ships, dead bodies in window seats, dancing fish, tap dancing birds, German troops, cavorting Russians, singing nuns, and swimming whales. In this production, we have three hard-working elementary students in their debut roles: Natalie (4th), Jet (2nd), and Gage (2nd). We have wrestlers and football players. We have horseback riders and swimmers. We have video backdrops, costumes from the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, and an all-student orchestra. Please read the credits to see who took leadership roles in our crew. These students are noteworthy and have shown leadership beyond their young ages. We are also thrilled to work with another professional choreographer, who you can see performing at venues all around Central Arkansas, Ms. Bridgett Davis. It takes tremendous amounts of time and talent from our entire Fine Arts team to produce an excellent experience for our students. I want to thank all of you, cast, crew, and staff for helping create this lovely story of a father who learns how to better love his family. I hope our show is PRACTICALLY PERFECT in every way! LRCA THESPIAN TROUPE 8226

Warrior Hall is home to International Thespian Society Troupe 8226. Our 20 active members advocate for the importance of theatre in schools, mentor middle school theatre students, and perform across the state. This past February 17, girls represented Little Rock Christian Academy at the Arkansas State Thespian Festival. In addition to performing in workshops, they returned with two Superior ratings and four Excellent ratings in their individual and group events and $6600 in scholarships. Thespians are seen across campus on the main stage of Warrior Hall’s fall play and spring musical, as well as in one acts and festival-centered competitions that range across the state. Troupe 8226 members welcome all arts-loving students to join them and, “Act well their part, for there all the honor lies.”

Lessons the

Arts

Te ach By Elliot Eisner

2 3 4 5

The arts teach children to make GOOD JUDGMENTS about qualitative relationships. Unlike much of the curriculum in which correct answers and rules prevail, in the arts, it is judgment rather than rules that prevail. The arts teach children that problems can have MORE than ONE solution and that questions can have more than one answer. The arts celebrate multiple PERSPECTIVES. One of their large lessons is that there are many ways to SEE and INTERPRET the world. The arts teach children that in complex forms of problem solving purposes are seldom fixed, but change with circumstance and opportunity. Learning in the arts requires the ABILITY and a WILLINGNESS to surrender to the unanticipated possibilities of the work as it unfolds. The arts make VIVID the fact that neither words in their literal form nor numbers exhaust what we can KNOW. The limits of our language do not define the limits of our COGNITION.

6 7 8 9 10

The arts teach students that SMALL DIFFERENCES can have LARGE EFFECTS. The arts traffic in subtleties. The arts teach students to think through and within a material. All art forms employ some means through which IMAGES become REAL. The arts help CHILDREN LEARN to say what cannot be said. When children are invited to disclose what a work of art helps them FEEL, they must reach into their POETIC CAPACITIES to find the words that will do the job. The ARTS ENABLE us to have EXPERIENCE we can have from no other source and through such experience to DISCOVER the range and variety of what we are capable of FEELING. The arts' position in the school curriculum symbolizes to the young what adults BELIEVE is IMPORTANT.
