The Youth of Today Can Change the World of Tomorrow 1 Listen and Read The youth of today can really change the world of tomorrow. You only have to take a look at what 15-year-old Greta Thunberg has achieved in her short life so far. The Swedish schoolgirl spent hours sitting outside the parliament building in Stockholm striking to get politicians to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. She has since gone on to speak at protests that have been held across Europe, and has inspired millions to take part in global climate strikes. Her actions have been seen as a model for a whole generation of young people. Greta is not the only young person who has made a difference. Young people around the world have been doing amazing things to change things where they live.
2 Present a person who has made a difference:
Step 1 – Research Your teacher will give you the name of a young person who has made a difference to this world. Use the Internet to research that person. Google his/her name to start with, but also make sure you search YouTube, Wikipedia and social media sites. Start by gathering information using the following questions as a guide: Who is your young person? (background, family life, country) What was the problem that (s)he turned her/his attention too? How did (s)he go about changing things? How does her/his idea work? What has (s)he achieved so far? What does the future look like for her/him and her/his idea?
