"The 1952 Greenleaf is dedicated to Mrs. Alice Black. All who know and have worked with her will agree that she deserves the honor. When she learns about this dedication she will probably say, 'Oh, why didn't they select someone else!' That is characteristic of Mrs. Blackgive the honors to others ...
11 Administrators, teachers, and students know Mrs. Black as a successful teacher and friend. Her personal interest in the problems of students, loyalty to the teaching profession, and devotion to duty are commendable. Her friendliness and understanding have endeared her to all.
"Personnel of the class of 1951-52 commend Mrs. Black and wish for her many happy and successful years at Whittier.
"Then to Mrs. Black, the 1952 Greenleaf is dedicated."
Now, as then, Mrs. Black is known as a successful teacher and friend. And now, as then, Mrs. Black chooses to give the honors to others.
But this year, in honor of the many years of faithful service to both the teaching profession and Whittier Junior High School, this 1974 Whittier Greenleaf is in part dedicated to Mrs. Black.
To Mrs. Black we say, "Thank you" for the many years of devotion, loyalty, friendship, and help you have given to students and faculty alike.
For his life
He met a change. Such a part though , of Everything around him.
The change will forever remain , ever to be forgotten. P ortions of the burning sun
Shone from him , adding That last comfortable degree.
His presence is now like A lone cloud in the sky , O ut of reach , yet from w h ich drops A life-giving substance
Which must always remain , to live. Feel. His love grows
Let u s share today. Those drops, so needed daily which May satisfy some unknown thirst , Enri c hing our soul in return.
For extra, add from your own heart
The warmest ray of sunshine found. Now feel ... his love still grows.

Ton y D ia z (1959-1974 )
The
second part of the dedication of this 1974 Whittier Greenleaf is in loving memory of Tony Diaz. Tony, a muchloved ninth grade student in 1974, was met by death during his last semester at Whittier. To Tony Diaz, then, in loving memo ry , goe s this W hi tt ie r Greenleaf of 197 4.
What can one say? We all knew him , we all loved him, and now he ' s gone. He was special, everything was for h im, a nd now ... All that somebody can say in s uch a short space is that we loved him and we hope God loved him , too.
