Whittier we leave your halls With feelings of regret, We'll miss everything about you And we never will forget, All the times we spent here, Some were good and some were bad. We'll remember all of them And all the fun we've had. As we go on to "better" things We'll know what it is to try, Because we've learned from Whittier To set our standards high.
And so we say good-bye for now, We'll come back when we can, To see how much you've changed and then Remember way back when. When we went to Whittier What we did and saw.
The first day we looked up at her And stared in wondering awe. We've grown up a lot since then, Our thoughts have changed some too, But we will never change our minds About what we think of you.
Whittier, You're Number One!

Life, a mystery to all mankind, Life, something we all must find. Life, enjoyable to most all , Life, a series of runs and falls.
Life, something which ends so abrupt, Life, so easy, yet so rough.
Life, a multitude of many things, Life, a treasure of all human beings.
Life, full of happiness, yet so sad, Life, you're joyful, but sometimes mad. Life, full of war, afar and at home, Life, such a blessing, yet so many are alone.
The crowning of this year's King and Queen of Hearts was the highpoint of the Valentine Assembly, February 12 "His Majesty ," Thomas Wade, and "Her Royal Highness," Susan Burbach, were named shortl y after all t he couples were escorted in: Peggy Champoux by Thomas Wade; Gwen Hart by Pa t Keelan ; Linda Dowd by Lloyd Dennis; Cindy Brown by Jimmy Brown; Maria Mar by John Hopgood ; Lisa Bergantzel by Dan Maddox; and Susan Burbach by Jeff Gossard. Randy Kadavy se.rved as Master of Ceremonies.
To uphold the tradition, waltzers were in this year ' s assembly: Peggy Moxham and Randy Venhous; Margie Wilson and Don Duckworth ; Debbie Lairmore and Curtis Howell; Kimmie Maser and Tony Seeger ; Roseann Conradt and Terry Jandreau; Nancy Essink and Kenny Dixon; Betty Thompson and Mark Harris; Jacquie Brown and Ron Husa ; Susan Cassner and Steve Baldwin; Bonny Bluford and Gene Flynn. Enter t ainment also included a Trumpet Trio consisting of Don Duckworth, Clay Hathaway and David Smith . They played a love medley of "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and "What the World Need s Now." Following that were the Harmonettes with "Cherish" and "Georgie G i rl." Randy Kada v y played "Jean" on his Tenor Sax. An Alto Sax Duet with Morraco accompaniment followed. John Hopgood, Washington Watley, and Robert Hucherson played "Spanish Eyes." Next on the agenda was "Cupid on the Loose," a skit presented by the Drama Club. Characters were as follows: Mark Harris as Henry, Karen Esquivel as Sylvia, Rosco Ambers as Cupid, Lorie Swartz as the Policeman, and Karen Spoor as Molly.
This year as always, many people contributed to the success of the Valentine Assembly: Mrs. Adams directed the instrumenta l musi c portion of the program, Mr. Thompson the vocal, Miss Griffith the waltzers, and Mrs. Tyrrell the skit. Decorations were done by a committee made up of Maria Mar, Susan Cassner, Debbie Woodward, Peggy Moxham, Lloyd Dennis, and Jimmy Brown, under the supervision of Mr. Christensen. Both teach ers and students worked long and hard to make this assembly the big success it was and they need to be commended.
We're just half way through Jr. High With one more year to go, We're caught up in the middle With so little room to grow.
We're not the smallest anymore And we're not the biggest yet, They tend to push us to the side And just to leave us set.
We haven't made our mark yet, But our 9th grade year will tell, We plan to do alot of things And really do them well.
We'll run this school with pride When we're the leaders here, We're looking to the future And a happy 9th grade year.

The Grave
It hurt me, the efficient, spade-proud hole, That earth-room with its tapestry of boughs; I dared not look, how sturdily into marl The pick had struck-how strong they had made your house.
After, I knew the spring would heal that scar Easily with daisies, mend the ground undone; Your wistful bones are best theh where they are; Too deeply entrenched to wound the sun.
by Jon Shideler
Love is a breach in the walls, a broken gate, Where that comes in that shall not go again; Love sells the proud heart's citadel to Fate. They have known shame, who love unloved. Even then, When two mouths, thirsty each for each, find slaking, And agony's forgot, and hushed the crying Of credulous hearts, in heaven-such are but taking Their own poor dreams within their arms, and lying.
E ach in his lonely night, each with a ghost. Some share that night. But they know love grows colder, Gr ows false and dull, that was sweet lies at most. Astonishment is no more in hand or shoulder, But darkens, and dies out from kiss to kiss. All this is love; and all love is but this.

We are proving that man can live in outer space and at the bottom of the sea. Meanwhile , in the area between , it's getting tougher and tougher.
It is estimated that our population increases by one every ten and a half seconds - we haven't controlled the population explosion , but we do have it timed nicely.
Too much rest is rust.
Next to the dog, man's best friend is the wastebasket .
Has it ever occurred to anyone that space may eventually conquer man?
Remember the end never really justifies the meanness.
To be human should be considered a privilege, not an excuse.
To err is human, to forgive takes restraint. To forget you forgave is the mark of a Saint.

The ultimate sin of the mind is t he failure to pay enough attention.
The West, with all its natural beauty was won by men on horseback- and is being lost to men on • bulldozers.
Life can only be understood backward , but it must be lived forward.
Our future as a nation is going to depend not so much on what happens in outer space as on what happens in inner space - the space between our ears.

The trouble with dropouts is not that they can't see the handwriting on the wall, but that they cannot read it.

Among one of the first schools to be built in the midwest after World War I, was Whittier. Built in 1922 , its first occupancy was a year later. Originally it was built to accommodate 1000 students, but has held within its walls between 650 and 1000 students. Its enrollment now stands at 486.
Mr. Charles Culler was the first principal. He has another school named after him. Since being built, our school has had additions. The art and shop area is one of these additions.
