Developing, learning, and living in an era of great advances in technology gave us the inspiration for our theme of this year's yearbook, Late Knight Television. Some of us grew up watching television shows that inspired us to be like the characters we saw. Not only were we able to watch them mature on-screen, but we were able to see ourselves mature in reality.
Picking this theme represents our school as a whole because of our great achievements in academics, being influenced by our teachers, and finding our way through our teenage years supported by friends and family along the way.
Each volume of the Shield is like an episode of a television show. The first time you watch it, everything is in the moment. The next time you watch it , you relive the moment and the memories come back to you. The filming for our episode starts at 7:00 am each day and we close the set at 3:05 pm.
This yearbook is for you, so you will never forget the memories you've made in this sc hoo l this year , and never forget the people you made them with.
Just as a T.V. guide would tell you the names of the programs throughout the day, this guide tells you the name of the headlines that we based on television shows. Each headline is based on an actual televison show with a Southeast twist.

This year we had the honor of welcoming nine foreign exchange students from six different countries.
" The school spirit is really big here for example, whenever there is a football game I was one of many people to go see the game," said Maddi Weskamp (Germany).
Pablo Viana (Spain) says he went to a few meetings in Spain were hundreds of students from Spain met and they got choose randomly to be a foreign exchange student.
"I'm very grateful to get this amazing opportunity," Leon Krause (Germany) says, "I learned to be more independent and how great high school can be."
Many of our foreign exchange students mentioned there are things here in America that they didn't know they did differently where
they're from.
"I was surprised the driving age here in Nebraska is 16, because back in Germany it's 17 with a parental supervision and 18 when you are on your own," says Krause.
A lot of our foreign exchange students wanted to go to Australia, but their place of residence was chosen at random. So far the student's experiences in America have been really great, Andrea Mularoni (Italy) said the beginning of the school year was hard because she didn't understand everything at first, but she is learning more about America everyday and is so happy she took the opportunity.

Flowers! Flowers! Flowersl Megan Kauphusman (12) is watering some beautiful flowers that she will later arrange at Field ' s Floraling. She works there after school. MYou ca n' t fill it up with too much water otherwise it will overhydrate," said Kauphusman
Many students have interesting jobs. A lot of them have unique ways of getting their money.
If you want to smell some nice aromas, you should poke your nose into Field's Floraling. Megan Kauphusman, senior, used to be just a shopper, but now she works there.
"I really enjoy it, I make lots of corsages and put flowers together," Kauphusman explained.
Terri Dimon, French teacher, was the first girl ever to sell pop at a Memorial Stadium. Her dad was the manager at coca-cola which is how she got the job.
"I was a top seller but it was a lot of hard work. It was worth it though because I made $40 a day," said Dimon, which is equivalent to today's $200 she estimated. Laura Kringle, sophomore, works on a farm and flower nursery seasonally.
"I make caramel apples, restock candy, and weigh pumpkins in Autumn," said Krjngle.
Senior Collin McCarthy works at Dietze Music. His dad's friend is the owner of the store and that is how he got the job. His favorite part of it is helping out kids when they're getting their first instrument.
"I also help with sales, rentals, and customers" said McCarthy.
Paul Smith, who teaches Holocaust Literature, started out as a custodian who used to apply gym floors. He worked from 1980 to 1983 and made $3.21 hourly.
"I really liked seeing the finished product and I thought I was a good worker," said Smith.

Lincoln Southeast is a community of unique individuals. Some of our students have extraordinary characteristics none like the rest.
Believe it or not, Bashak Budak's (11) name is actually spelled Basak Budak She changed it to Bashak because one of the letters is not in the English alphabet.
"People used to pronounce it Ba-sak , so I added the "h" in my name for school so it would be correctly pronounced," she said.
Antonela Bogdanovic (11) has heard people say that her name sounds like umbrella or Nutella.
"I think it's funny when people say my name wrong. " she added. Students not only have some uncommon names, but crazy heights.
Believe it or not we have a student who is six feet and eight inches tall. His name is Austin Hurt (11 ). He is so tall that he has to duck for doorways, ceiling fans, and car doors.
"My parents never need to get a chair or a ladder when they need to reach something high up , they just ask me , " Hurt stated.
Shopping for clothes that fit correctly is a challenge to some of taller students, Nerissa Moravec (10) said.
"Jeans are normally too short or short sleeves are too short. Denim shorts probably look even shorter on me since I have really long legs , " explained Moravec.
Moravec isn't the only one who has trouble finding clothes that fit correctly.
"I have to get jeans at western stores because they have jeans that are longer and fit me better," Hurt agreed.

(Above) Huh? "My name is Polish, it means "Son of a Prince " which pretty much means I'm royal," explained social studies teacher Zach Wojtowicz.
(Left) Say what? Antonela Bogdanovic (11) and Bashak Budak (11). "My name comes from a specific plant in genetics that is necessary for life," said Budak.
(Below) How unique! Mujo Deronjic (12) Matigan Paulsen (11) embrace their one of a kind names. "My name has been pronounced in some funny ways like, Muehl, Moozo, and Mooho," Deronjic informed.
(Right) #LockerProbs. Harlee Sabatka (11) shares an embarrassing moment during passing period. "freshman year I was at my locker and when I closed it, I got my backpack strap stuck in the locker and I couldn't get it out because the top part of the locker was closed. So I had to have security come down to my locker and try to open my locker and get me and my backpack out. All this was going on while I was still had my backpack on," explained Sabatka.
(Bottom) Oh No! Social studies teacher Sasha Reek embarrassing moment captures everybody's attention during her first pep rally. "four years ago I was student teaching here at LSE. It was our first pep rally of second semester. I was very excited for this pep rally being new to LSE. I walked into Prasch and sai 'hello' to some students I had in class. I then saw some of the other social studies teachers at the top of the bleachers standing around the track. I cooly started to walk up the bleachers to stand with them and was about half way up when the band stopped playing and the school was called to silence. At that very moment I completely tripped over my own feet and fell right down about 2 stairs and smacked my face on to the ground. Everybody, and I mean everybody, in Prasch laughed at me. I got up and continued my walk of shame to stand next to my co-workers who are, at this point, dying of laughter, recounted Reeks.
(Left) Yo, your fly is clownf English teacher Paul Smith describes his most embarrassing moment that he will never forget. "Teaching for over 30 years, there are many moments that stand out, but one in particular occurred here at LSE back in the 90's. I came into my 5th period class that morning, and we started the lesson for the day. About half way through the class, an emboldened student pointed out to me the zipper on my pants was wide open. Obviously I was extremely embarrassed. The next day I confronted my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period classes and asked why no one said anything? Their response was they were too scared," said Smith.
(Right) nit Tok! Jake Winter (11) describes an embarrassing moment when he showed up late to the honors convocation. "'During the honors ceremony in the 2nd semester of sophomore year, I showed up late so I awkwardly walked into the gymnasium while Court Choir was singing and sat with the juniors in my confusion. By the time I got up and walked to the sophomore section, all the sophomores were laughing at me," explained Winter.
(Left) History class suddenly becomes more lnterestlng. Social studies teacher Jaci Kellison tells how her passion for history could go a little overboard. ult was one of my first years teaching at Southeast. I can't see out of my left eye, so I tend to trip and run into things on my left side while I'm teaching. One day, I was getting particularly passionate about world history and I stepped into a trash can and drug it around for a for a few steps. Needless to say, the class found that moment to be more exciting than our topic of study," said Kellison.
(Above) I'm readyr I'm ready! Spongebob Squarepants is a classic cartoon that kids and teens in the 90 ' s and now find humor in. It's about the daily life and adventures of an under water sponge and his friends.
(Right) BOOGA! BOOGA! BOOGA! Courage the Cowardly dog was a show many kids watched for entertainment. It was about Courage ' s life living with his owners, Muriel and Eustace.
(Below) Furby fun! Furby was a popular toy that many kids in the 90 ' s wanted under the Christmas tree. It spoke its own language and was a must have toy.
.. . ,.
Southeast is throwing it back to the 90's. There were many iconic 1V shows that students remember watching, and may still watch today.
Brian Mazzini (11) said, "My favorite shows from the 90's were The Fresh Prince Of Bel-air and SpongeBob Squarepants. I still watch them today because it brings back memories from my childhood."
Not only were the 1V shows classics, but the feel good pop music and boy bands were very popular in the 90's.
"In the 90's I listened to Backstreet Boys, * NSYNC, and Brittany Spears," exclaimed Kaitlin Cech (12).
Clothing, hair styles, and accessories like the jelly shoes, slap bracelets, and feathered bangs were
all things that were popular in the
90's.
"The way people dress and look are the biggest changes we've had since that time period," explained Divayrean Johnson.
Each generation has new slang terms that ~ecome popular in every day conversation.
"Some slang terms I used all the time were aight, all that, as
if, bangin', chillin', and dawg." Cech stated.
The freshman this year were the last generation to be born in the 90's, so now it's our job to keep the 90's alive.

These true Lincoln Southeast stories tell us more about the extraordinary students and teachers that attend Southeast. Everyday you pass by all these people, but do you really know who that person is? What's their name, their hobbies, what do they do for fun? Who is the person you just walked by?
We are familiar with the term "selfie ." Not only are the stories all about them as individuals, but so are the photos. Instead of having the yearbook staff take their picture, it was up to them to send in a picture of themselves, a "selfie," that best represents who they are.
This is an opportunity to get to know your Southeast community. A chance to learn something about someone you never knew before. Who knows, maybe you'll find that you have something in common.

Q: What's something you want us to know about you?
A: I went to Arts and Humanities my Sophomore year. I loved the school and the kids there. They all had a place , a talent, and a strong interest in something. I had talent and loved to be artsy, I loved drawing and finishing projects that required an art piece, but no matter what I did, I just didn't feel like I belonged. I felt like an outsider, almost like a fly on the wall. 1 remember Trinity McDonald , the happiest and sweetest girl you could ever imagine meeting. Her voice rang through the school, either singing or laughing. When Trinity died October 27, 2013, so many people's lives were touched and heartbroken by the loss of this beautiful genuine young girl. Our lives changed forever. I wanted to do something that would remind me of her daily. I learned that Trinity had cut all of her hair shortly before her death. 1 wanted to feel closer to her, and I decided to cut off all of my hair too. I continue to struggle with others reaction to me over my hair. This was the daily reminder I wanted, because no~hing can ever begin to compare to the pam that Trinity's family and closest friends have suffered through. we are all struggling to find out who we are and what we are going to be, just remember to never give up.

There were several policies that were added this year to help ensure the safety of the students at Lincoln Southeast.
"Security of the students is important," said Max Mayer (12).
One of the policies that was added during the year was the no standing rule, which says that students can't stand around by the exits or anywhere else in the cafeteria during

"I don't like how we have to sit down after we are done eating. We should be able to stand and move around freely," said Daniel Hundley (9). "IDs and tardies are a main priority, but sitting in the cafeteria is not," he also said.
Another new policy is the random ID checks that can occur during any time of the day. The ID checks are an effective way to ensure that students are consistently wearing
"IDs and tardies are :~:i~~~:~:ill.e th ey a main priority."
The new policies are needed to ensure that the school is both safe and secure.
"Students wearing IDs makes it easier to identify the over 2,000 students," said Robert Baltensperger, one of the Lincoln Southeast administrators.
Brent Toalson, the Lincoln Southeast Principal, also reports that the number of students without IDs is on average only 16 or 17 per ID check. He also addressed what the goal of the new policies that were put into effect this year.
"A main priority is getting kids graduated and prepared for the future, so this makes the goal to improve student graduation and achievement," Toalson said.
Toalson also said that they were doing the right thing as well as being proactive.
So whether or not you are a fan of the new policies that were put in place this year, they are here to stay.

Step 1:
The school put together a SIP committee of staff, students and parents. The committee meets once a month.
Step 3:
A second survey was given to all the teachers and a few parents asking if there were any other words they wanted to include in the statement.
Step 5:
The committee put together the vision statement and presents it to the staff.
Step 2:
A survey was given to all teachers asking what type of words they wanted to be a part of the vision statement. Some of the words chosen were community, farrrilies, and inspiring.
Step 4:
The SIP committee joined together and ent over the surveys to figure out how th • ion statement would look. They disc how the statement would reflect Southeast as a community.
Step 6:
The vision statement was thus created and engrained into the community to help achieve excellence in all of Southeast students and staff.

With eyes focused on writing. Dallas Jones (9) is hard at work practicing his writing abilities with a prompt that his teacher handed out. Writing is definitely a huge part of English, you need to learn how to write to succeed in life.
Bender-ing the norm. English teacher Tommy
makes funny faces to entertain his class. A lot of students enjoy having him as a teacher, because he makes classes fun. M l love teaching , because it becomes something that's a lot of fun for me There doesn ' t need to be a separation between enjoying class and learning If you can have fun in class , you should , Msaid Bender.

This year was an opportunity to introduce a new class, called the American Experience, to Southeast. This two-hour block class combines U.S. History with American Literature, specifically designed for juniors in social studies and language arts.
"This is the way all history classes should be taught. We felt it would enhance the experience between both English and Social Studies," said David Peters on the incorporation of the two classes. The American Experience takes up two periods, 6th and 7th, and it is a large class.
"The number of kids in the class has turned out to being easier to handle then I originally thought," stated Tim Tidball.
and we are constantly hit with history making things everyday. The students here at Southeast learn more and more about today's past, and present history in the making. When trying to incorporate both English and History into one class, not everything will be perfect the first time. "We're always looking to change and tinker and make it better. We want to continue to weave the two courses together to avoid 'History' and 'English,"' commented Tidball.
felt it would enhance the experience, both English and Social Studies," - David Peters.
This year, we had a lot of interesting things happen in the World Language department here at Southeast. The most important event being that we had one of our very own Spanish teachers get naturalized as a lJnited States citizen on October 30, 2013.
Spanish teacher Teresa Barta has lived in the Linited States for ten years , and she applied for citizenship over a year ago. The ceremony took place during 8th period with all of her students, family , and friends attending.
"It feels good to officially be a lJS citizen! It's finally starting to sink in especially while taking the pledge," said Barta.
One of French teacher and department chair Kristen Tangen's
students excels at learning and understanding languages. Megan Kauphusman, a senior this year, is currently taking French 4, AP French, and Latin 3/4.
"I'm planning to major in foreign language. I love learning languages, because its fun to communicate with people who speak other languages around the world," said Megan.
Our world language department will help her reach her goals of majoring in foreign language.
As a first year French teacher, Sasha Van Zandt loves teaching at our school because of how open-hearted everyone is.
"My fellow teachers are very helpful to me, and the students that I
explained
Another thing that she likes about Southeast, is the culture of the school.
"I like Southeast because I enjoy the culture here, and I'm slowly learning how to embrace it," said Van Zandt.
The World Language department at Southeast is a great learning environment for students, because of the awesome teachers that we have.

Here at Southeast we have eight talented choir groups: Ars Nova, Bel Canto, Countesses & Noblemen, Court Choir, Excalibur, Knight Sounds, Queen's Court and Singing Knights.
"I like being a part of something great. When I'm in choir I feel like I'm sitting with my second family. No one is judgemental at all and I love them all to death," said Allana Blakeman (10).
Blakeman has been in choir since the fourth grade and has loved it since the beginning. But she isn't the only one who loves being in choir.
Alexis Dunn (12) says, "I love being able to do something I love every single day. I've gotten close to all the ladies in my choir and my senior year in choir has honestly been the best one so far."
Choir isn't just a group of people that sing together. They're like a family.
Freshman Jillian Howard says, "I really like the people. They welcomed me to the choir. You know just people who share the same interests as you."
Justice Shorter has been in choir all four years of high school and highly recommends it.
"Do it. It's so much fun and if not, you'll be missing out on all the long lasting friendships," says Shorter (12).
Blakeman says, "Definitely join. You meet very awesome people who will love and support you. You will learn life lessons throughout the year that
are worth knowing. You will not regret it."
Not only do you get to sing with people who love singing as much as you do, you also make new friends.
"I would say do it. You really learn skills like teamwork and you seriously bond with everyone in that choir," says Dunn.
It may seem a little seal) performing in front of people. But with the help of the group and more experience, it's not as bad as you think.
Dunn says, "Freshman year was really nerve-wrecking and I got nervous a lot but now it's like second nature to me and one thing I've learned is if you mess up, smile and as Mrs. Noonan says 'Fake it till you make it."'
To some it's terrifying but to others it's different and they just love to perform.
"It's different in a sense of knowing that I could change how someone feels about music," says Shorter.
Howard says, "Honestly, it's amazing You just let out emotions you've kept inside."
Choir experiences give you a chance to try new things out. Like pe11orming. It may seem scary but it gets better. It gets easier.

Many students at Southeast take part in one or more of the diverse band we provide for music lovers, including Orchestra, Jazz Band, Marching Band and more.
Jacob Pale (11) is part of Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble and plays both the bari an alto saxophones. He's the lead alto for Wind Ensemble.
"Wind Ensemble is especially challenging and, because of how it's set up, it forces me to become a better player," said Pales. He's been playing sax since elementary and was introduced to jazz in middle school.
Hailey Bottoms (10) plays the french horn in Marching Band and has been playing since fifth grade. Marching Band is a big commitment and can take two to three hours of practice per week before school starts.
"Normally, we have two performances on competition days and we can be out at a competition from 7AM to 9PM or 10PM," said Bottoms.
Ted Yates (12) plays the tuba for Marching Band and has been playing for so long that he claims he'd die without music. He warns that because of the practice schedule in the early mornings, it's not a place for night-owls.
"It has become a p rt of who I am," sai Yate He enjoys band amp because it is a gre way to make friends and get your exercise at th same time.
"Nothing is more deadly than a welltrained LSE band before their performance. Afte dominating the competition, we take all the trop and bus home."
Holden Sutter (9) takes part in Marchin1 Concert, and Black Basketball Bands. He plays trumpet and piano, and has been playing trum since 5th grade.
"I enjoy being with a great group of pe and being able to improve alongside them. The music is also fun, diverse, and challenging," Su 1 said. He enjoys having his friends with him in b and loves music.
"I play the 1st trumpet part in Concert Band." said Sutter proudly.
The musical groups at Southeast are exciting and competitive. They require dedicati and love for music, but these bands have a lot ( fun practicing and improving technique and sk i

best memories of this job include when students graduate and come back, and talk with me about college and what they' re doing in their lives," said Mrs. Winter.
nightrThe Counseling Center is a big part of our school , every counselor plays an important role in the lives of the students here. Lincoln Southeast has six counselors to tend to every student's needs. The jobs of the secretary of our counseling center and the attendance technician, Mrs. Kathy Burkman and Mrs. Jesica DeWitt, both also have huge responsibilities in helping the students and the counselors Burkman , the secretary to the counseling center, is a very important part of how the counseling center functions. She answers the phone for the six counselors and Dr. Jeff Stoehr, schedules college and military visits, arranges counseling center announcements, prepares the National Honor Society induction ceremony, sets up NeSA testing , and plans both the fall and spring Honors Convocation ceremonies including designing the programs and certificates.
"Setting up the NeSA testing has just become my responsibility, so I'm still getting the hang of it , " commented Burkman.
A typical day in her job mostly consists of answering phone calls, but she also works with the office assistants and completes projects given to her by the counselors.
Any day as a counselor is not your average day. Plans often change because of the random appearances by students or an unexpected phone call from a parent. Each
of our counselors have the same general job duties that include: post-high school planning , financial aid and scholarship assistance , registration for grades 9-12 , helping with social issues (family problems and abuse cases), orientation for 8th graders, IEP meetings, referring testing for students with special cases (classroom needs), advice for classes to take and graduation requirements for students who need more credits. They never know which of these problems they will have to help a student solve.
Mrs. Janet Millnitz is one of the six wonderful counselors that help out the students of Southeast High School. She loves her job, because she works to benefit the student's academic success and it ' s really rewarding when you see that student succeed.
"It's really nice to get told that somebody has really appreciated what you've done for them," said Millnitz.
Some of her favorite memories of her counseling job include: working out students problems whether it could be with a teacher or a parent, helping new students to adjust to Southeast, helping kids to - achieve academic success , and working with a female student to help get her to a child advocacy center.
Another reason -that Millnitz enjoys her job is be cause she never knows what will be in store for her for that day. Her days usually consist of a variety of activities, and if she leaves the room she never knows what will

Ms. Jesica DeWitt is the attend a 1 technician at Southeast. Dewitt is responsible for providi r i technical assistance to students , paren t , teachers and administrators by monitor i l absences and tardies and by collaborat il g with all parties to ensure that attendan c, policy and procedures are carried out appropriately. DeWitt's favorite part abo 1 t being a technician is getting to interact r work with students on a daily basis.
The best memory from her wo r LSE is when DeWitt worked with a stud e 11 through most of her high school career 1 student ended up being able to graduat t 1 DeWitt's help and guidance.

In order to put in a schedule of your desire, or even change a schedule that you have previously set, you need to know how to get to the counseling center page. class registration happens every year sometime in January, every counselor has to help students sign up for classes, " said Millnitz.

Burkman takes all the calls that come through the counseling center. •Answering the phone is a big part of my job, because I can take messages to give to the counselors when they are free, " said Burkman.
The media center is many things including a library, a computer lab, a quiet place to study, and a fun place to be after school. Students can use the computers during and before class, during lunch, and after school.
Tanner Schultz (11) really appreciates the librarians and the help Mrs. Schumacher gave him to find the perfect book for his research project. He also goes to the media center 1n order to study, check his grades online , and complete projects for classes.
"I think the computers are one of the
most helpful resources in the library becau can do my work more efficiently," said Shut
The library's A/V technician, Julie Nelson, works in the media center to help students with everything from finding books to assisting in video projects for the pep rallies. She began working at Lincoln Southeast in 2000 and is passionate about integrating technology into the classroom. Nelson's favorite event tO' host, out of many, is Intramural Speech and Debate because she can watch the progress of each student, from their first day to their final performance.

"People probably don't realize how much ork we put into keeping the building secure," said LSE security guard Gary Hansel, reporting that he as ell as another other security guard, Curtis Craig, had found numerous people who didn't belong in the building throughout their years working at Southeast.
Another important position in the school that people may not realize has such importance is that of he custodial staff. Luis Moreno, one of the custodians here at Southeast said, "Behind the scenes, there is lot of time and effort in planning for daily activities, nd the cleanliness of the building."
Hansel also said that he checks to make sure
hat doors are locked, and occasionally pull people (Above) Coming through! After school, David Hull works hard to ensure that all the floors throughout the building get deaned. After all the floors had been swept, he needed to go in with the floor scrubber and dean it more

·ssues that may arise, as well as telling students to put their ID on, and that some students know him as he "ID guy" because of that.
Moreno reported, "Along with my assistant, e plan for activities and work with staff to ensure hat the work gets done."
Though there is a lot of hard work that goes into keeping the building both clean and secure on daily basis, that is not all there is to the job of being either a custodian or security guard here at outheast.
For example, Hansel is a Vietnam War veteran. Because of this, he sometimes gets asked to talk to history classes about his experiences during the war. He also said that his avorite part about working at Southeast is, "Working with the students, and getting to know hem too."
Moreno , similar to Hansel , said that he enjoyed becoming friends with students, and also said that, "It is a rewarding job, seeing all the successes of the students," which oes to show that his job is both full of hard work, and also rewarding experiences.

Hard work, long hours, a lot of drills, cold tournaments and countless times of frustration didn't stop Aidan Graybill (12) from having a successful season.
"Aidan went from struggling to hit the ball her sophomore year, to hitting her career round in the District Tournament her senior year," said Coach Spencer Duncan.
Haylie Pointer (12) and Aidan Graybill (12) played off for first place at the JV invitational.
"The Invitational is when all school in Lincoln get to play one big round. It consists of JV and Varsity teams. The Invitational is my favorite part of Girls Golf, because it gives you the chance to play with other te~ms and meet new people," exclaimed Graybill.
There are many reasons why students join golf. They join to better their accuracy, because it's fun, or because they want to learn something new.
"As a little kid, my dad had taken me golfing and convinced me to join the team," said Ellie Walstad (11 ).
"I joined Golf because my friends convinced me to join. I also joined because it sounded fun and seemed like a laid back sport," exclaimed Pointer.
Various players have seen themselves improve in accuracy and consistency.
"I went from not knowing a single thing about golf or how to play it, to making Varsity," said Pointer.
Duncan, coach of Girls Golf, coaching for seven years.
"I most enjoy being able to h out and interact with students outside school environment," stated Duncan.
Duncan started playing golf a and slowly drifted away from it to focu on his studies in college. He began g again in his 20's and now plays nearl day in the summer.
"The coolest places I've golfe have to be Torrey Pines Golf Course in Diego, California and Sand Hills golf c Mullen, Nebraska," said Duncan.
Duncan was hesitant to ans but admits that sometimes the girls ev better than he does.
"I plan on playing in my free fun outside of school because I really I sport," mentioned Emilee Buol (11 ).
Not only do the players of Gir excel individually, but they excel as at Every week they get together, usually Sundays, for a team dinner.
"The best part of this sport is able to play with friends that I've com with and be apart of a team and part family," said Buol.

It is a tradition for the loser of the round to buy lemonade for the winner. Hour lemonade strategy really does help me and it is a fun way to push myself to do the best I can do," exclaimed Pointer.

The Lady Knights softball teams all had successful seasons. The girls on each team have grown together and became better friends, and teammates.
The Varsity players had an outstanding season with a record of 30 wins and 7 losses. The girls made it to districts and received fourth place at State.
"The feeling was awesome. We went undefeated all games through districts. It was a good feeling knowing we made it again," said Sierra Johnson (10) a second year player on the Varsity team.
This is the fifteenth year overall and fourth year in a row that Varsity has made it to the softball State Championship tournament, which includes Berkeley Erickson (12) who has played on the Varsity team all of _ her high school career.
"I enjoyed it immensely and it was a great experience," said Erickson.
The JV softball team had a winning season as well. They ended the season with 12 wins, 11 losses , and 1 tie game. One of the highlights of the season includes the team winning the Papillion

"My favorite part of playing this season was meeting new people , and of course playing," said Engle
The Reserve ladies had an exceptional season for most of the girls this being their first year playing high school softball. They ended up with 5 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie game. This team consists of a few sophomores and many freshman ladies all eager to play.
"I have played softball since I was little, and I thought high school would help me improve and show me the faster pace of an advanced softball level," said Sydney Long, member of both Reserve and JV teams.

(Bottom) Come on guys! JV Coach Gene Lessman sits on the bench talking with Sam Castner (10). Lessman arui the other team coaches usually give pep talks to their players between matches. MTennis matches often times have highs arui lows, it is so important to keep focused so you ' re able to compete at the level you need to compete at, " explained Lessman.
(Right) I got it, I got it! The second seeded doubles pair of Garrett Kraus (12) and Nick Dosskey (12) play hard in ooe of their matches at state. Kraus and Dosskey are best friends , as well as 2nd season doubles partners. MThe atmosphere was great, and it was fun playing in front of more people than we normally did. The fans were awesome , arui our students are the best supporters in the state ," said Kraus.
All of our boys tennis teams had equally great seasons. Each player grew and developed over the course of the season, both as a team and as players.
The Varisty tennis team had an exceptional season, only losing one meet to Southwest. It's okay that they didn't win that one, because they got another chance to defeat them in the Westside Invite, which Ben Termaat (12) and Danny Clare (12) did in both singles and doubles.
"Winning both singles matches and then our doubles match in our meet against LSW was great, it gave us a lot of confidence going into state," said Termaat.
The highlight of the Varsity tennis season was of course going to State Even though everyone from the team gets to play, that doesn't mean they are guaranteed a win. The number one seeded doubles team at Southeast, Termaat and Clare, received second place at the tournament. The number two seeded doubles team, Garrett Kraus (12) and Nick Dosskey (12), received fourth place.
"It feels cool to compete at State level, because more people are interested in watching us play, not just our parents. It makes the players feel more important to have a bigger crowd watching us," said Dosskey.
There were many ups and downs over the the season, including playing the hardest competitors and just forcing yourself to practice hard everyday. Southwest has always been our school's rival, and it doesn't help that they are a very strong team.
"I would have to say that the hardest part about playing this season was facing Southwest. We always had to work really hard to try and defeat them and change our strategies on how we
will win," commented Termaat.
The Junior Varsity tennis team worked really hard to have an enjoyable season as well. The boys finished out the season with a 11-5 record The players also finished the annual City Meet that was hosted at Woods Tennis Center in second place. All the boys placed in the top three in their division of playing.
"Overall we really improved, had excellent chemistry, and had a great time," said JV Coach Gene Lessman.
All the boys that played on JV this year aspire to make the Varsity team next year. That's not the only goal the boys set for themselves.
"By next season, I really would like to get better at tennis and improve my game," said Brennan Roberson (10).
The Reserve tennis team had a good season, considering that they had some new players added to the squad. The boys ended up winning two meets by the end of the season.
"The team gained valuable experience, earning wins in inter-city play against College View Academy and Lincoln High. I am very proud of what they accomplished throughout the season," commented Reserve Coach Sig Garnett.
The team had a fun season, with many bonding moments. Every tennis team has team dinners and different bonding activities, but it's not everyday that you get to go to your coach's house and watch professional tennis.
"My best memory of the season is when we went to Coach Sig's house and hungout, and we got to watch the US Open. It was pretty fun," said Chase Searcy (10).

Back at ya! JV player Brennan Roberson (10) smacks the ball right back over the net. Getting the ball to land in the right spot requires a lot of concentration. M l would have to say the hardest part of the season was playing with consistency," remarked Roberson.
Oh man! Reserve doubles player Chase Searcy (10) watches one of his teammate ' s matches. Every player watches the other matches while waiting to play. MLeaming to play doubles was the hardest part about this season, because I only played singles my freshman year," said Searcy.
Pep talk time! Varsity coach Tim Tidball talks with his first seeded doubles team of Ben Termaat (12) and Danny Clare (12) in -between sets. Termaat and Clare did phenomenal at State receiving second place in doubles. M lt was a disappointing end to the season especially with Danny and I being so close to first, but it was still fun overrall, " commented Termaat.

Hard work and dedication to the freshman and reserve volleyball teams are the two things they know best. Both of these teams have become much better friends with their teammates than when the year began, which is a huge part in playing as a team.
Emily Johnson (10), says "My favorite part about being on the volleyball team was being with my friends and getting close with my teammates."
These teams are very dedicated to volleyball and their teammates. Throughout the year, both of these teams have bonded together and became one team out there playing, rather than six individuals playing for themselves.
Lucy Collins (9), says, "The best part of being on the volleyball team was the connection and the true teamwork that we displayed on the court."
These two teams have also learned so much more off the court. They learned more about themselves, and their teammates.
Corina Marsh (9), says "Volleyball has made me such a better version of myself. It also opened me up to people I would have never known. I became more of a leader, and someone people look up to."
Kaylee Prenosil (1 0), also mentioned, "Volleyball has helped me become a leader, a captain, and someone who people want to look up to."
For both of these teams, all of the girls
have became more of leaders than they were before. Also, they became more of a unit and more comfortable with each other
Kate Dean, (9), says, "Volleyball has made me more outgoing and comfortable with people I didn't know very well before the season started."
These girls didn't only learn teamwork and dedication, but they learned how to manage their time with the many hours of practice per week, and all the games they have each week.
A lot of the girls aren't only involved in volleyball, they are also involved in a lot more after school activities.
Emily Johnson, (10), says, "It was hard to commit so many hours a week to practice and games and still keep up with homework and other activities."
Even though all of these girls have so much work to do on the volleyball team, it was all worth it.
Johnson (1 0), says, "Our team got second in city and had a great winning record."
Marsh (9), also says, "My biggest achievement this season would be getting better, and becoming more of a leader, pushing my team to play at their peak best."

Abby Johnson (9) stated , "For me personally the most challenging part of cross country is being in the middle of a run, very ex hausted and just thinking 'Why did I get myself into this,"' she said.

Girls Basketball is a huge sport today and is constantly growing in popularity. The Lincoln Southeast Varsity and Junior Varsity teams prove the intensity of girls in sports. The Varsity team has been constantly improving this year.
Emma McKillip (11) is a varsity basketball player whose parents have always cheered at the TV while watching a good game. They inspired her to pick up the sport and play hard
"We beat Southwest this year," Emma exclaimed proudly She has set her goals high.
"I want to get passed districts." McKillip values her time in basketball because it helps her reach peak physical condition for volleyball and tennis
Karsin Underwood (9) is a freshman on the varsity team She ' s played since childhood and gets really competitive when it comes to her favorite sport , basketball.

Freshman and Reserve girls basketball has impacted many of the girls lives that are on the teams. It has helped them become the people they are today in many different ways. Basketball has taught them discipline, hard work, and teamwork.
"It has taught me to push my limits, especially at the beginning of our season when we had to condition three times in one practice. It's also taught me to work to get better and for what I want," said Katy Wolf (9).
Alaetra Long (9) also added, "It taught me to push myself and keep trying because you can do a lot of things that you thought couldn ' t happen."
Although basketball has pushed them to their limits, they have also had fun, memorable moments. From team din-
ners, to their biggest achievement over the entire season, these girls have many memories that they will be able to carry with them throughout their lives.
Stacie Post (9) said, "One of my biggest achievements of the season was probably doubling my points on the season in one game."
Wolf said that her most memorable moment was, "When I got us up by a point with ten seconds left in the game and the crowd went crazy," and, "Being voted captain of my team and leading my team to victory and helping the girls work through losses and getting stronger as a player and captain."
All of the girls have great promise for their futures in basketball. They all have similar dreams while they move on with Southeast basketball.
Molly Cummings (10) said, "I hope to become an even better player along with my teammates, and grow closer together as a family."
Courtney Edelmaier (10) added, "I would like to become better at the sport and maybe be able to play for Varsity."
Lastly, Nyangong Nyuon (9) said, "I would love for us to win a state championship."

Not on my turf! David Peters tries to throw the frisbee past Foster Peterson (11) during an intense game. Peters hosts ultimate frisbee in Prasch gym in the winter time , and he also hosts it in the summer twice a week at Pansing Park. M I encourage each student to join us each Sunday and play ultimate , " Peters stated.
We have many students who are involved with competitive sports that aren't a part of the typicaJ sports offered at Southeast.
Josiah Johnson (11) plays ultimate frisbee twice a week in the warm weather and once a week in Prasch gym when it's cold outside.
"I enjoy being involved in an active sport and it ' s a lot of fun to run around and throw a frisbee. It's also very social and I like to meet cool people," he said.
Ariel Adams (11) enjoys ultimate frisbee because she likes to throw plastic objects.
"I haven't improved in the sport, but I'm trying and that's what counts," she added.
From objects flying in the air to hitting pins at the end of a lane, bowling is another competitive sport our students are involved in.
Riley Johnson (10) was raised in a bowling family. He has been watching the sport since he was only a few months old and started playing it at the young age of five
"I started bowling because of my dad, but my whole family bowls," said Johnson.
Johnson isn ' t the only one who has been bowling since a young age. Dalton Johnson (10) has been bowling since he was six years old and has bowled an impressive score of 268.
Abby Riedel (10) has been practicing with the Southeast bowling team since she was in the 7th grade and has met a lot of people while she was doing it.

Cheerleading takes a lot of time from all the girls, and the sponsors, who are apart of cheer. All of the girls have to balance their school work, cheerleading, and their personal life.
Lana Harrison, cheer sponsor, says, "Probably balancing my personal and professional life. Sometimes being sponsor can feel like a 24 hour job with games, meetings, and performances many nights a week."
Caitlynn Croner (10), also adds, "Balancing cheer with school and outside activities is the hardest part of being on cheer."
It can be really difficult to manage their time wisely, but they all make it work. These squads also have learned a lot about themselves through all of their hard work and their dedication to their school.
Isabelle Brehm (10), says, "Cheer has made me more out-going, confident, and has given me more pride in my school."
Also Taylor Mitchell (10), adds, "I think cheer has helped me as a person in a positive way. It keeps me disciplined, yet also teaches me lifelong lessons about representing myself and school in a positive manner. People don't realize that cheer is so much more than pep rallies and games. It teaches you lifelong lessons."
Harrison, first year cheer sponsor, says being a cheerleader involves a lot of work, but they all have so many great memories that have been associated with cheerleading.
Abby Filbert (9) says, "Becoming
close with so many new people was one of the greatest things about this cheer season."
Tressa Little (9) also adds, "Definitely having laughs with my squads and cheering at football games. Overall, just becoming closer with my squad, also pep rallies are really fun."
Mitchell adds, "My favorite memory from cheer this season was doing our huddle for the very last time at our last basketball game. It reminded me of how much I love cheering, but also how sad it is to let go of another year."
Through out the year, the squads have a lot of time together to bond. They spend the summer together cheering at Southeast, and at cheer camp. Also, they spend a lot of time before pep rallies practicing to perfect their cheers. During all of the difficult practices, they all have either mastered a skill, or learned something completely new.
Little says, "Being able to finally be able to do my jumps correctly. Also, becoming a better cheerleader, like being more sharp with my motions and being a louder chanter." Also, they have all grown so much together, and helped themselves individually.
Filbert says, "Cheer has helped me to grow as an individual, and become a true person. Being around so many fantastic people has been an amazing influence on me, and has been a_great accomplishment."

For seniors this year, their episode is over and season one is complete. As they enter the halls to their new college or get hired for their dream job, they will begin filming the episodes that will make up the next season in their life. It's up to them to decide how they will handle their bloopers and know what to do when the director calls cut.
Each one of their lives will come with hard times and may feature a suspenseful cliffhanger. They won't know what could happen to their life until the next episode begins its filming or even until the next season starts.
As they surf through all the different channels of life and try to figure out which one fits them best, they will always bring with them the memories they shared with their best friends and the many lessons
they learned from their favorite teachers during their attendance at Lincoln Southeast high school.
While new people begin to make an impact in their lives, they become the new main characters in their show and are no longer making just a guest appearance.
Leaving the familiar classrooms of Southeast and moving on to life after high school won't be an easy journey and they may need a few takes to get everything right. When the director calls action and you're standing before the camera of life, how will you make the most of your time in the spotlight?
