9th graders-The Final Look Smaller building, more students

When many Pound 9th graders entered the school as 7th graders, they might recall that the school building seemed much larger in size than it does now and overcrowding was not as much of a problem as it is today.

Pound 9th grader Nicole Scheinost said she is looking forward to high school because "there will be older students to look up to."

In addition, 9th graders reflecting on their years at • Pound noted the numerous activities they were involved in including music groups, sport teams, clubs, drama, and publications.

Amber Rasmussen, a 9th grader at Pound said one difference she noted between the time she entered Pound as a 7th grader to her final year at Pound was that "students have more opportunities to do extra-curricular activities including trying out for sport teams at the high school level."

Ninth graders interviewed overwhelmingly said 9th grade was the favorite grade.

Brian Ullman said, "in 9th grade, we're on top of the hill."

8th graders reflect on their 2nd year Bigger lockers, more homework

•by Lea Reedy and Shanda Warkow

Pound 8th graders realized early in the school year that their 2nd year at Pound would be more of a challenge in the classroom.

8th grader Tiffany Schneider said some of her classes were tougher, however she said a student could pick more of their classes and a student didn't have the exploratory block of classes.

Gabby Berger said the homework was a lot harder and a student couldn't tum it in late.

Other changes Pound students noted included participation in more sports and lockers that were bigger and hold more than 7th grade lockers.

Rikki Gauldin said she like participating in a variety of sports and liked the more spacious lockers.

Justin Fitzgerald also noted that he carried around more books to classes this school year than last year.

Pat Wagner said a student goes more into depth with books they read in classes and a student reads more books.

Dan Volk commented that he had to take too many notes in 8th grade.

7th graders ...

Experienced many "firsts"

As 7th graders began their first year at Pound they experienced many "firsts" that included sharing lockers and finding their way around a different building.

Many of the 7th graders couldn't believe the homework increase from 6th to 7th grade.

Seventh grader Brian Post said, "The homework is harder at Pound than the homework in elementary."

Nicole Smith, 7th grader, said that she had homework in every class.

Another "first" is a seven period day. Seventh grader Tom Stieren said, "The day goes faster because of the different classes."

Sarah Staiert said she thought "The teachers at Pound are better than in elementary school." However, Melissa Larson said the "teach~rs at Pound were more strict than in elementary school."

Pound Faculty ... Focused on students learning

Pound's Faculty focused this school year on not only teaching students but also dealing with issues including larger class sizes due in part to the increase in students attending Pound.

Overcrowding was a major concern of faculty members. "We have more students, and we are running out of places to put them," Linda Graham, science teacher noted.

Faculty members also expressed concern with the attitude of some students toward school and studying. Dixie Gaer, English teacher, said, "I wish all the students felt positive about themselves and about learning. Some days it seemed like it was the students versus the teachers. We should actually be on the same team and headed in the same direction."

Pound Faculty members all agreed that the most exciting part of a teachers' profession was their students.

"I enjoyed my students a lot, and they were fun to be around," noted Susan Larson, a first year science teacher.
