Ninth grade means leadership.
"You have more say in what goes on, " Jack Stuart said. Seventh graders look up to the rulers.
"I have control over the seventh graders who don't know things," Gerri Johnson said. • They don't realize we were like them once, and we got teased too. After royalty you start over again.
"Being the youngest is no big deal," Stuart said.

Junior High students have enough to wrestle with, without worrying about high schoolers. But don't tell Jeff O'Gorrnan, a ninth grader at Pound.
O ' Gorman made the Southeast Varsity Wrestling team in November. He is the only freshman out of 13 on the team.
"I got killed!" said O'Gorrnan referring to his first meet. "I am hoping to make it to State this year but lf not that's O.K."
O ' Gorman said he is confident about trying out the
next three years. He said , "This
season may not be too great but
the next three years I will really
feel good about my wrestling."

Memories here are more than a few
Through all the good times and bad
Experiences and friends we have made brand new
I'll always remember the fun I had
So a "thank you" goes out to all who cared
To all those who have helped me listen
To mostly my friends with whom my time was shared
I will long for all the great days I'll be missin '
With this I leave you a sad goodbye
So I'll hold back my tears and try not to cry

What do eighth graders think of eighth grade? What do they expect from ninth? And do they have any advice for the seventh graders? These were the questions.
Most of the eighth graders I talked to gave me responses like "it was fun," it was borir)g,· "tell the seventh graders to stay out of our way." These were all real interesting answers since this · story was written in December.
But, Jenny Starr said it best. "Yahoo to eighth grade, for it was hellish, pickles are green, and so is relish," she said. Ahh, the sheer beauty of poetry knoweth no bounds.

Being in the middle, is a feeling we all know
Our first year at Pound is over
And we still have one more to go
We're not the oldest in the school
Or seventh graders starting out
We're stuck here in the middle With no way of getting out
So we'll finish out this year
Being stuck right in between All of us together
There are so many things we 've seen
So even though It's been hard
To make it through this year
I'm glad we have one more left
Before we all leave here
The good times have been many
I'm sure you'll all agree
So here's to our eighth grade year
And all of its great memories

Imagine sitting in the same desk for five hours. This may be what it is like to be in a wheelchair. Karli Schmidt has experienced this When Karli came to school with a wheelchair, she said, "at first it was kind of embarrassing, but then I got used to it, it's okay, but I'd rather walk. "
Karli missed almost two weeks of school be fore she came back. She said she wanted to come back really badly because it is boring at her house.
Karli does not feel that the school is equipped for wheelchairs at all.
In the past Karli played with crutches and thought it would be fun to use a wheelchair, but now she says that she'd much rather walk

What do you think of the teacher 's thought~? Well , Mr Bock , Mr. Bougger, and Mr. Winemiller have lots of them. Bock likes teach i ng 7th graders because "they have energy and enthusiasm I like that in a student ." Bock doesn 't feel that teachers are baby-sitters . "A baby-s itter doesn 't interact with kids like we do We teach them. "
Winemiller especially doesn 't feel like a baby-sitter. "Definitely not! " he sa id. "School 's a t ime when kids and teachers learn that they are the products of their dec isions, good or bad ." He a lso added, "Adolescents are not brats!!! " -
Bougger ' s thoughts on the subject, "No · Bougger was assigned to the 9th grade l O years ago. "I enj oy 9th grade, " Bougger said. There are some thoughts of the year.

This is one thing you should consider before getting into it
During practice you run two miles, stretch, and practice new moves.
When asked about wrestling verses other sports Jon Zatechka said, "It's not a team sport, it's more individual. "
Advice to the new wrestlers"You don't want to get to high on yourself, because there is always someone better than you ," said Mike Rosso.

Publications is a class in which students learn the techniques of working on the newspaper and yearbook.
The class toured the Lincoln Journal-Star second semester. It was a great followup to the first semester students' trip to The Polk Progress.
The students learned how to do layouts, write stories and take photos for the newspaper and the yearbook.

Very Important People make Pound 's partnership with American Charter enjoyable.
American Charter has done everything from donating money to donating time and much-appreciated help. Among other things, they paid to print stories written by Pound seventhgraders. They sponsored a logo design contest . Shannon Jackson won $30 for his design And American Charter employees read stories to classes throughout the spring.
In return, Pound has donated time in the wellness center, artwork and a wide variety of musical talents.
"Pound and American Charter share one of the best V.1.P. relationsh i ps! " says Barb Ho pk ins the V . I. P. coordinator for the city of Lincoln.
