Times A 'Changin

From the time ninth graders walked into Pound as seventh graders, they went through many changes, from the growing student population, to having more homework.

Pound ninth grader Felicia Fowler said during her time at Pound she got to know a lot more students, her classes got harder and she had more homework.

The majority of all ninth graders were looking forward to high school.

Lynden Nilsen said, "I'm looking forward to high school because most of my friends are there."

Most ninth graders interviewed agreed that ninth grade was their favorite year of junior high.

Ninth grade was Stephanie Anderson's favorite year because she said she liked being the oldest. "I liked the way the seventh and eighth graders looked up to me." Anderson said.

Steve Stack said, "I think being the oldest gave us certain privileges that we had not yet experienced in our life cycle."

7th Graders - From Oldest to Youngest

As seventh graders started their first year at Pound they changed from being the oldest to the youngest. They have also experienced many changes along the way including attending a school with seven period days, lockers and finding their way around.

Seventh grader Matt Slaymaker said he liked elementary school better, he feels alot smaller here.

Kelly Bowen, seventh grader said that she liked it at Pound and felt she had more room with the lockers.

Another seventh grader, Emily James said the lockers were too small.

Many of the seventh graders thought that the change from elementary to junior high was not much different. The only difference was that the school is bigger.

Ross Pierson, seventh grader, said there really isn't much of a difference. Although he said that he felt different when he used to be the oldest in the school and now is the youngest.

Faculty Changed with Times

Pound faculty members Ralph

Calafiore, Asset teacher, Peg Dallman, paraeducator, and Joyce Sohl, English and Civics teacher all commented that many students liked school but for some it is difficult for them to take directions from older individuals.

These teachers said they wanted to go into the teaching profession to help the youth and educate them. Peg Dallman said a para helped out the teachers as well as the students.

Dallman also said she enjoyed using computers over a typewriter because it will do most anything in Word Processing, Data Base, and Spreadsheet.

Calafiore said students aren't as physically fit as they use to be. Calafiore said he always wanted to be a teacher because when he was younger he worked with teachers and helped younger students.
