Bloo4 swmt, and tears. You'd never think that all of that would happen while doing a musiral at North Star, but this year's play had all o that and more. Most audienre members never take into ronsideration all f the factors·that go into making aproduction.
Oklahoma, required not only memorizing three hours worth of dialogue and music, but also lrarning choreography for all of the danre numbers. A.nd since most of the rast had never taken a danre lesson in their life, it proved to be quite challenging.
A.long with those basics that rome with doing any musiraL this rast saw lots of curve balls. Complirations with the original leads (lieidi Moore (12) broke her ankle and Meghan Conner (11) moved) required th understudies to step up to the challenge. There was even an injury d • a performanre that almost caused A.ndie Westling (12) to miss performar es. The 19 piere orchestra had to rewrite the music since the oopy they rereived was written in the wrong key.
'Oklahoma" ran four nights for the public and was met with eno mous praise from the over 1,600 people who attended the productions. , "~ven though we ran into a lot of problems along the way, it was truly a great show thanks to the rast and crew," said Garret Lacey (11 ), who pla Mike one of the many rowboys in the production.

Junio..s head to Homecoming Dance looking
On Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, students lined up at the doors of :tforth Star High School waiting to go inside for North Star's third Homecoming dance.
For some students this was their fi~st high school dance or their last high school dance. For other students, it was another night of fun.
OL a d
As the D.J. played his "fresh" style of music, the students danced on the • floor "Droppin' It Like It Was Hot."
As the night went on everyone danced, sang, and took pictures. As the 11 p.m. hour drew near, Stephanie Ibach said she
couldn't believe how fast time went by and how fun Homecoming was.
RGEOUS
Other juniors such as Mandy Etmund said they left the dance early because it ~as too crowded. Etmund like most juniors was also a bit nostalgic because she knew the juniors would all be seniors and experiencing their last Homecoming Dance by the same time next year.

Laying back and relaxing is not so easy anymore for sophomores who kick it up a notch to catch up with the fast pace.
Some thought being a sophomore gave them more importance in school. "It's a lot nicer being a sophomore because then you don't get called the 'freshies' and you don't get all the crap from the upper classmen," said Chelsey f ullerton.
But some didn't see it that way. "I thought I would feel 'superior', but I don't at all. We just moved up. Yeah, the teachers do expect more because we're getting older and we need to be more
responsible, but the upper classmen still treat you the same," said Jaimee Kittrell.
This year also comes with a lot of firsts. "Sweet Sixteen" becomes the most important time of their lives. It's a time where sophomores become a licensed driver, they drive their first car and if lucky, they may get longer breathers away from parents.
The class of 2008 will finish their second year of high school with the weight of growing up on their shoulders. It's time for them to prepare themselves for what's yet to come.

class of 2008 has many outrageous stories to talk about each

share with each other are awarded the "are you serious?" stares, followed by a moment of silence, then finally a burst of laughter.
What is it that make these times so memorable that a smile still lingers when the thought comes to mind? These are the stories

Hungry freshmen munch, slurp and crunch throughout the day
o d was on the minds of many freshmen throughut the busy school day, whether it was because they ikipped breakfast or were just Dlain hungry.
The half-hour lunch break Jrought a delightful smile to many itarving faces. It also brought nany frowns because the lines ;eemed too long, and it could ake you about 15 minutes to get hrough them.
Students everywhere :ould be found munching on heir favorite snacks as a source >f energy. Like people in general, :ome students enjoyed stuffing heir faces with junk food, while l few preferred eating healthier oods.
Throughout ·their lives, nany students develop eating tabits that they had grown rather ttached to. The only thing that
is important, though, that it tastes good and satisfied one's hunger.
Other habits were developed just to add variety to everyday meals. Regular dull food was turned into something with a little more flavor. One way of relieving boredom at the table was to mix different foods together. Whatever it was that filled their stomachs, whether it was chips and soda or veggies and fruits, there was hardly ever a moment when food did not occupy the minds of students.

Around the school in small offi~ and cl roo are staff that you might seldom see-helping student arge and small ways as .they work to acrumulate knowledge and skills for their jmmeys beyond the halls of North '5tar. In the classroom te,achers go the extra mile for students struggling with arademics.
'5PtD programs also do a gre,at deal to help maintain the building and re,cycle paper products. '5tudents and staff go the extra mile in the oommunity as well, maintaining the Backpacker's program by visiting the Food Bank and filling
backpacks for needy students at Linooln £lementary sch ls.
The speech teachers work individually or in small groups with students who have a variety of needs.
In other plares in the building, staff such as the 1,urse\ offire is always there for students who need them.
The attendanre offire bustles with both student~and staff work_ing to reoord and adjust attendanre reoords.
When students at North '5tar need help, staff thl ugo out the building re,ach out and offer their assistanre.

One word to describe the cross-country team is dedication The team trains in all types of weather all year long. During the summer, the team met in the mornings at various places and ran several miles in teams.
No matter the conditions, Coach Matt Musie/ said, "The team's work ethic is great. Team attitude is strong. Our boys and girls want to have our successful tradition contin ue for many years to come "
As the season began , Brett Thompson (11) said, "I want to get as many PR's (personal records) as I can and maybe even make it on varsity."
Eric Noel (12) said, "just to see ourJV team compete in big meets is a huge accomplishment. Those guys have a lot of heart, and they are an essential part of the team "

Jacob Hiatt (10) said that his teammates were "great role models.·,, Noel said, "The relationship between the coaches and the athletes on the team is nothing but love I trust in our coaching staff completely, knowing that they also want the best for me ."

Softball is not just a sport where you play a few games, and then you go home. There is more that comes out of it than winning and losing. With softball comes som·e of the best friends that you will ever encounter. You play on teams together, you laugh together, you crytogether. You meet new friends through other teams.
A real softball friend is one who is there for you on the field and off the field. A real softball friend is there to help you with your bumps and bruises. A real softball friend is there to pick you up after a rough game or congratulate you after a great one. A real softball friend keeps in touch with you after the season has ended and for many years to come.

"My favorite part about playing softball was the teammates and how well we all got along. My favorite memory was wnen Brittany Coufal fell over first base in the middle of a game. The team I was most excited to play was Lincoln high. I just love playing the game and I love being aroun_a all the girl.s, and ram &01ng to miss 1t next year.
Terran Benes (12)
"My favorite part about playing was the bus rides, and how much we bonded. (circle of trust!). My favorite part was playing dodge ball last year when we played the JV team. It was clean Tun. Another memory was when Coach Bree's dog ran over Kam while we were warming up. I was most excited to play Fremont. The reason why 1s everytime we played them it was a close game. I'm going to miss not playing next year, but I'm looking forward to go watch the new team, and how much it will change and improve."

In the third year of North Star, there were a lot of changes in all of the sports teams. The softball team started off strong w ith many of new players coming on board . Some freshman played on the junior jarsity team including Brittney Hurst,Jamie Peterson and Brianna Steiner.
All of the players brought previous knowledge along with them and managed to start strong and then continued this track throughout the season.
Th ere was also help brought on board to lead the girls. New Coach Justin Fr edri ch was a big help to each and every girl in their own way. Coach Fredrich had pr eviously coached baseball, but never softball, so this was a very new atmosphere for him. The g irls said that they loved having him as a coach because of his new techniques an d his fun loving personality.

Many of the girls walking off the eld after their last game commented bout how fast the season flew by.
For part of the team, this was the rst time they have ever stepped foot on e field.
These girls were excited to play d ready for the action to begin. They ved the time and effort that their new oach committed to them.
Coach Michelle was a big help o their new, fresh team. The team had •
fresh, new created talent come alive while learning the game. It was as exciting for the girls as it was for the rest of the team to watch them all grow. Some of the parents had comments on how much their players have grown. They were all very proud of their players and the team as a whole.
Hopefully we will see all of these faces out for the team next year making their high school career of softball all that it can be.

North Star's #2 double' s team had the goal of putting themselves on the map, and that's what seniors Jeremy Bauer and Calvin Christensen did. They opened the season tying for first place in the Papio-South Early Bird Classic.
There was no looking back for either of them. They defeated the eighth seeded LSW team twice during the season, including a win over the Silverhawks in the Bellevue West championship game.
During the year number two singles junior Danny Poethig had big wins, including one over Lincoln East's number two singles player Micheal Dunlap.
The team also featured Senior Anthony Nguyen at number one singles and seniors Tho Pham and Seth Maynard at number one doubles.

With three years under their belts, the North Star Swimming and Diving T earn is beginning to make bigger and better waves.
"Our team has grown over the years and we are in a position to do some good things. We have a team that is opening eyes," Head Coach Seth Lutz said. However, getting noticed is eas ier said than done. " The swimmers/divers put in a tremendous amount of work to represent the school in a quality manner," Lutz said. The team practiced everyday after school and on Saturdays for about two hours and Mon., Wed., and Fri. morning at 5:30 a.m.
The athletes combine time in the water with weight lifting to get exactly what they need.
With all the practicing, the team managed to stay motivated with the help from teammates and their own personal motives. "The will to get better motivates me to keep coming everyday, along with the idea of supporting my team members. I can't let them down," Emily Burbach (11) said. Even though the team works hard, they still
try and have as much fun as possible. "We usually do one set a night to music in order to keep the athletes loose , but music can also be fun and motivational," Lutz said. When the team isn't at practice, they st i ll spend time together. Pasta dinners are held the night before competitions to make sure the athletes get a good meal. During the pasta feeds, the team watches movies and part icipates in team building activities. "We are a really close-knit team There is little that happens without the whole team knowing," Megan Schroeder (12) said.
That closeness is almost as important as practice itself. "My favorite th ing about being a part of the team is the closeness we share and just-knowing that I'm a part of something. We're like a big family," Burbach said. Coaches bec~me more confident as the year went on. "I'm excited for the conference meet and state. We already have team members swimming at state and conference will open the doors to the rest of the team," Assistant Coach Laura Sherbak said.

&nglish has always been known as one of the core classes you have to take. Here at North Star teachers have a different approach to it and try and make the kids enjoy going to class.
We surveyed many students on who their favorite English teacher at North Star is, and we got a variety of different answers so there really wasn't one favorite that stood out. The students ' reasoning behind who they chose as their favorite teacher was usually because the teacher got involved with their class and made the assignments interesting through interaction with peers in their class.
The North Star English department offers 25 different English classes. As ou get to be a upperclassmen you get the option of choosing your own class mat you think you might enjoy. Some of those classes range from Literature of e Holocaust to Literature Through Film. For those who enjoy or need writing asses, North Star also offers Creative Writing , Advanced Creative Writing, ading Ideas and General English or classes in journalism.
