Shadows of Time ...

9TH GRADE

FACULTY

_ With the passing of time, changes seem to be cyclic arid styles of many things including: clothes, lengths of hair and even academics peak and then subside and peak again In 1976 the teachers' directions seem to be back to basics, namely: reading, writing, arithmetic and spelling. Among these peaks and valleys there seems to be emerging an important but subtle trend, that is, an effort to bridge the communication gap between teachers, students, and parents.

The Class of '77 was the first of its age to send representatives to the Board of Education as bona fide members. On Nov. 3 , 1976 such a group of parents, students , and professional staff members met for the first of a whole series o f meetings to discuss issues and c o ncerns. A mere beginning, but neve rtheless a beginning.

NINTH GRADE

We Made It

" It's finally over with ." This was a common thought as the ninth graders received their diplomas at the end of a hard year. They struggled through tons of homework , nerve-wracking tests, while they tried to stand up to all the lectures on RESPONSIBILITY!!! Even though ninth grade was hard, there are many things to be remembered. Ninth grade was a special year , they realized just what it means to be the "head of the school. " Even the most boring class became a little more likeable, still detestable, but more likeable. Teachers became more friendly, and school took on a whole different atmosphere.

Math, Typing, Drama 2 , World Studies, and English are just some of the classes offered to ninth graders. Next year they will become the kids who watch out for others , but they know that it's just one of the many steps they've been taking since grade school.

8TH GRADE

8th Grade Class of 76-1·7

Novels, history, outlining, and grammar are luckily only part of the eighth grade experience. Students find that school offers them many different activities such as: music, languages, clubs, and sports.

More and more eighth graders are taking advantage of these wide range interests. It has been a time of expansion and growth.

7th Grade Class .of 76-77

The step from grade school to Junior High School is a difficult one. Seventh grade is a time of adjustment where students learn through their studies that kids of other times and cultures have had similar problems.

They also spend time learning to be themselves through activities, reading, and projects. They concentrate on how they relate with their friends, family, and school.

Red Cross has produced positive leadership and served others this year. Some examples of how they served others is they visited nursing homes, adopted grandparents, sponsored such dances as the Halloween dance, Thanksgiving dance , and the 50 ' s dance. Raising money was another good deed. Some cases where they raised money was the bake sale and Operation Santa Claus.

Volleyball

Mickle 9th grade girls Volleyball teams averaged out a good season. The Varsity came out with two wins and seven losses. The Reserves on the other hand came out with six wins and three losses. The Varsity coach was Mrs. Brestal and the Reserve coach, Miss Rychechy, when asked about her team, "We had fun even though we didn't have that good of a season."

Cross country had one of the best seasons ever. The team won the City Championship, placing- six out of the top ten from Mickle, with Rod Jensen the all around winner. Coach Sell always said, "Hard work equals success," and in this case it did.
