IN MEMORIAM

Carol Hatch

November 11, 1937-November 8, 1954

There is a Gl ea ner whose name is Death And with the sharp knife keen

He gleans the full grown grain in a breath And the flowers and Buds of Promise between.

" Shall I have naught that is Fair; And us e only the full grown grain?

Wh en Bud s of Promise are so sweet to me, Our Creator will preserve them for me ."

He gazed at the Buds with tearful eyes; He kis se d their youthful leaves.

" This is for the Lord of Paradise I bind Th e e in my sheaves.''

Oh n ot in cruelty or in wrath

The Gleaner came this way It was God's messenger who sought This Bud to assist in the crown.ing day.

National Honor Society is an organization for the junior and senior students who excell in citizenship, scholarship, leadership, and service. Not more than fifteen percent of the senior class may become members. Five percent of these are chosen in their junior year and the remaining ten percent are chosen in their senior year . This high honor is awarded to the students whom the faculty believe to be deserving of it.

Due to the size of the class of 1955, Lou Ann Rogers was- the only member of her class to receive the honor in her junior year. On May 10, Glenn Hoy and Mary White were chosen to make up the remaining ten percent of their class. Lewis Brown and Jim Murphy were the two members of the junior class to become members.

This year the National Honor Society has sponsored the convocations honoring the Honor Roll Students and their parents. "Confident Living in the High School World " was the theme of the fall program. Connie Schmidt, Nancy Mehuron, Jeffre Cheuvront, Brenda Kraatz , Jim Dill, Zean Carney, Bill Barnhouse, Jim Murphy, Lewis Brown, and Jack Harvey gave speeches which they had written on the traits they felt necessary for confident living in the high school world.

"The Living Constitution" was the theme chosen for the spring program and was a program designed to inform the audience of the true meaning of each phrase of the preamble to the Constitution Lewis Brown, Zean Carney, Jeffre Cheuvront, David Edwards, Brenda Kraatz, Nancy Mehuron, Jim Murphy, Lou Ann Rqgers, Robert Sellards, and Mary White were speakers, with the assistance of a speaking choir consisting of the Honor Students from the ninth through twelfth grades.

The programs were presented through the cooperation of the music, art, business, and English departments.

Mrs. Fern Housman has been the sponsor of the group.
