Junior Jason Steenbarger submitted his cover idea to the 1993 ROCKET staff during the final week of the all-school search for cover ideas. A total of five covers were submitted by members of the yearbook staff and Northeast students. The cover had to follow this year's theme, "Images", so Steenbarger listened to an idea from a staff member then created his design. At first, you might think the 1993 cover is upside-down, but Steenbarger's sketch follows the idea of having the school's image or reflection pictured in a small pool of water in front of the school. Obviously, if you are facing the school, then the image would be upside-down in the water. The 1993 ROCKET staff would like to thank Jason Steenbarger for his hard work on what is no doubt the only cover of its kind in the United States.
wo of the many events that occured in 1992 were Hurricane Andrew and the Presidental election. The election took place on November 3rd and Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton was elected even before all the electoral votes were in. Clinton had 349 electoral votes compared to ~publican Geor3e Bush's 132. Northeast held their own Mo ck election, a3ain Clinton won.
On Monday, August 25, at 5:52 a.m. with the eye of the hurricane 25 miles off the Miami coast, Hurricane Andrew hit

Andrew took a total of 47 lives; 15 in Florida, 13 in the Bahamas, and 19 in Louisiana. 'history.
After ,all the polls were dosed and the · votes were in, President-elect Bill Clinton had 43% of the popular vote, George Bush had 38% and H.Ross Perot had 18%.
"I think it's going to be wonderful that everyone will be able to find a seat, and we' 11 finally be able to host a district volleyball tournament, because before, the ceilings have always been too low." That's how Mrs Genrich feels about the new gym.
It's hard to miss all of the construction that's been taking place since the middle of ·1ast year on the north side of the school.
When the $2.7 million gym is completed aro~d April of 1993, it will contain many special features. Some of which include, seating for 3100 people, a large concession stand, large weight room, aerobic exercise room, a new training room for injury rehabilitabion, new locker rooms for · both boys and girls, a place for video taping and media coverage, a place north of the gym for buses to park, health classrooms and it will have the only parquet floor in Lincoln.
One of the most unique features of the gym is sponsored by the Booster Club. It is a wall of bricks that will be located at the east (main) entrance. Order forms were sent in the mail so Northeast students or their parents can purchase a brick for ·$25. On this ·brick, you can have your name and the year you graduated. $20.00 of the $25.00 will be put in a scholarship fund. They're hoping to make $30,000 by selling the bricks.
When asked what his feelings on the new gym are, Mr. Wilks said, "I feel that it's long overdue as not only a contest area, but for locker rooms, and a new health education classroom as well."

"I think of school as just one big social eve'1t. Ilobodg really cares about the work." That's how senior Rndrea Jag expresses her feelings on school and her friends.
Some people like school, some don't. But the one thing that everyone can agree on is this: whether we're having a crummy dag or a superb dag at school, friends make it better. During the week, theg pick us up bg making us laugh so hard we feel we're going to puke. Rnd when school lets out for the weekend, theg convince us to go out and cruise "D" . go to a football game, go to a party. just hang out, or do whatever feels spontaneous. Friends make life bearable, sometimes even truly livable. Rnd although Lincoln doesn't ,
hav-a much in the mag of meekend entertainment for people under tmentg-one, it still has great people living in it that get a ten on the friend scale.
Whether gou like school or not, gou have to admit it is a good place to see gour friends, because ... mell, theg eventually show up at their lockers sooner or later .

've IQst my mommy and daddy," is something you might hear while volunteering at the Lincoln
, Children's Museum, downtown. Although I didn't hear it, the hour I was there, I'm sure it does happen to students like Candy Ross, a senior here at Northeast who volunteered there.
One day last fall, I shadowed Candy at the Children's Museum for about an hour, watching _her pick up after the kids. If you've never been there, let me tell what it's about.
There are a number of exhibits, ranging from scientific to everyday things like the childsized grocery store with real products. The volunteers put the scattered toys back in the exhibits and, if it's not too busy, even play with the kids.
After following Candy for fifteen minutes, f realized that we were going to be doing a lot of walking. The kids there that day were little pigs. They left stuff all over the place. For instance, at one point Candy found food from the grocery store all the way over by the playhouse.
I asked Candy how she liked working there and she answered, "I think
this is a more fun place to work than other places would be." She also said her favorite things to play with were ,the dominoes table and the playhouse.
I also asked Candy some personal questions. I found out that she wants to become either a legal assistant or an elementary teacher. Both of these deal with communication and patience, which you definitely gain working with children.
One final thing Candy had to say before I left was, "It (volunteering] is very inconvenient, [but] I think it helps you get a sense of working with people and not getting paid for something."
-Laura SchellWhat do you think of seniors being required to do volunteer work?

Among these were the New Student Luncheon, the "Clinton Kids Project", Appreciation Day, newstudenttourguides, Peer Tutors, and Teens Talking to Teens (A.I.D.S. Educators).
Many people don't know what being a Peer Helper is all about. Basically, a Peer Helper is someone who helps students with problems, shows friendship to others, welcomes new students, and refers students to resources for getting help with serious problems.
This year's group, sponsored by Nancy Muelhausen and Mary Oestmann, consisted of twenty members with ten others in training.
When asked about Peer Helper's role in Northeast, Alicia Sexton answered, "Peer Helpers have helped Northeast by being friendly to those in need and introducing new students to our community."

Individuals For Change' \ls a group that strives to encourage individuality and promote creativity throughout the known and unknown world. IFC had about 25 people involved, including Kelly V. Muller and Rachele Irene Walter who were co-leaders. This year they sold candles and ribbons for A.I.D.S. awareness week and encouraged people to register to vote through posters and announcements.
Rachele Irene Walter said of IFC, "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood and love is all around, sunny days and smiling heads make IFC a beautious place."
- Laura SchellThis year, Poetry Club' was sponsored by Terry Abrahams and had about thirty people involved in the group. This is twice as many members as last year. Poetry Club's goal was to share poetry by student and professional po-: ets.
This group had many things it wanted to get accomplished, including the poetry wall planned two years ago. One thing they did do was a love/"anti-love" poetry day in February.
Member Shelly Fargo said, "Poetry club is a great place to share poetry in a time that's not usually allowed in regualr classroom activities."
- Laura SchellSpeech team at Northeast was a group that worked on speeches and interpretive readings.
The speech season was f ram November to March. Speech team practiced one night a week with some tournaments on weekends.
This year, there were roughly six competitiors for Northeast. This included Tanya Ethridge for interpretation of poetry. The sponsor this year was Mrs . Davis.

The Debate Team, which is sponsored by Sue Resz, had 12 people. This is two more than last year's 10. The purpose of debate is to travel to distant lands, meet exotic people, and beat them.
This year, the debate team had many successes. Jamie Brtek won 2nd •place novice at Westside and Hastings. Jared Wimer also won 4th place novice at Hastings. The team also participated in an 11 state tournament and a state tau rnament.
Member Daniel Brox said, "Debate helps a person to develop better higher level thinking skills."
- Laura SchellRADO (Rockets Against Drunk Drivers) had 26 members this year. This is eight more members than in 1991-92. The purpose of RADO is to bring to the students an · awareness of the hazards of teenage drinking and driving.
RAD D's officers this year were president Crystal Miller, vice-president Shawn Helmstadter, secretary Christy Yenglin, and treasurer Tonya Jones.
RADD, along with Student Council, sponsored Dead Day in December. Dead Day is a day when selected students are taken out of their class, have white face make-up put on them, and pretend they are dead by not speaking to anyone.
When asked what RADD thought of this year's Dead Day, Crystal Miller replied, "We are proud of how Dead Day went and we are planning to do a lot more in the future."
-Laura Schell"The support that I got from _ Mr. K, Janet, the band, friends, and the~crowd has been great. I had fun twirl _ ing at Northeast -and I will miss it a lot."
-~risten Lempk~The marching band gives another great performance during halftime.
Competing comes and goes, but the 180 plus member Northeast marching band (maybe more than 300 in the '93-'94 school year) knows how to win competitions ranging from the Nebraska State Fair to state competition in which Northeast was the largest band to compete. They also received another superior rating.
Parades are another way Northeast proved themselves as a worthy opponent with a performance at the Star City parade in December 1992 and also at the Harvest of Harmony parade in October 1992. In the 1993-1994 school year, Northeast will be performing at the Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena, California.
When a person becomes involved in marching band, long and hard work is a big must in a members' loyalty. Some practices started at 7:15 in the morning. They also practiced during band camp two weeks before school started.
One unique thing in marching band were drum majors Tammy and Tracy Rasplicka. When asked how they felt working together, Tammy said, "It was exciting for us and our family, but it was a lot of hard work."
-Jen Koci Joe Schwarz gives Sarah Raymond a lift after an exahausting day of marching. There were many band groups to partici- pate here at Northeast in the '92-'93 school year, including symphonic band.
After marching season was over, most juniors, seniors and some sophomores took this class first period. It lasted from second quarter through second semester. The number of people involved included seventy-one students and Jeff Klintberg was the instructor.
Symphonic band was more involved because of the music it included. There were musical pieces such as classical and symphony instead of marching music. The artist Antonio Vivaldi was one composer who was included. Symphonic Band also gave students a look at more difficult musical pieces to play.
For ninth graders next year, the possibil- ity is to have separate classes away from the upperclassmen.
As in most music groups, symphonic band had some competitions. On March 31, Northeast competed at the LPS all-city band contest at the Lied Center. On March 5, the symphonic band was chosen as one of the honor bands to play at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association convention held on the UNO campus.
-Jen Koci Bazooka Joe Schwartz masters the timpani. Ed Bates concentrates on playing the right notes in band. This 24 member class is a select and devoted group of individuals who practice every day sixth period. They had a fun, interesting and busy year.
They performed at the Vocal Music Soup and Salad Supper, the Northeast Jazz Show which featured Mike Tamaro, the Northeast Rock Show, 3 to 4 jazz festivals, the Northeast Winter Concert, many community appearances, junior high and elementary performances, and the Solo Ensemble Contest.
The only member of Northeast Jazz Band to be chosen for the All-State Jazz Band was senior Chad Zabloudil.
Despite having nine seniors , nine juniors, and only eight sophomores, senior member Scott Bossung, who has played the saxophone for seven years still said, "the group this year is a young but very strong band."
Tryouts for the band consist of playing with the group during a few practices. After that advisor Jeff Klintberg chooses the new members. Jazz Band members are some of the most talented instrumental music students at Northeast.
Concert Band is directed by Jeff Klintberg. It is made up of about 75 members with most of them being sophomores, including some juniors and sophomores. This is fifteen more members than the 60 members in 1991-92.
This year Concert Band kept busy as always. They performed in three concerts here at Northeast - one in winter, one in March, and one in late spring. They performed at the Solo and Ensemble Contest in February and also performed at the District Music Contest.
Sophomore member Sherri Brouillette said of Concert Band's ability, "When we get a new piece of music it really sounds bad, but after we play it a while it sounds better, and by performance it's not perfect, but it's there and we try really hard."
-Laura Schell Tracy Claussen plays the trumpet for her 4th period class. Josh Christiansen wants you to know he has his music down pat.Orchestra, being directed by Janet LaFollette, had about 30 members this year. This number is eight more than the 22 members in 1991-92.
The Orchestra this year was very busy with numerous activities. In October, they played with the Nebraska Chamber Orchestra. They played in the All - City Orchestra in December. February included playing with junior high orchestras. In April, they played for the elementary All -City concert, and in May a spring concert was held here at Northeast.
"Playing with our orchestra has given me the opportunity to improve my skills as part of an ensemble," said member Carol Reed.
In response to a question about the number of people in the group, member Jes Grubb said, "A smaller group helps to make things blend better. Even if we aren't as big as some of the other orchestras in town, I think we've improved a lot in the last year."

This year the officers were chosen differently than they have been in past years. This year the council voted for officers with in its self.
Stu-Co sponsored the blood drive, the food drive, the Mock election, flowers for Valentines Day, 9th grade orientation, sophomore orientation, a self defense assembly and a multicultural assembly.
As of early February Stu-Co had still planned a St. Patrick's Day dance, prom and the district VI convention.
Co-chairperson Jim Wheeler said, "We would like to see Student Council get more respect."

Steph Howell and other members look enthused (?)during a 7:30 a.m meetingThe Northeastern came in to the 1992-93 school year with one big obstacle and many goals to be reached.
The obstacle was that they were a small staff of only seven Although the staff was small, they managed to meet one of their many goals, to put out at least two 12 page papers.
The paper had a new front page addition this year. "Around Northeast" written by junior Jessica Curtis, was added to give students a brief insight on what was happening around the school. The column had such items in it as new classes, club day updates, play dates , music concert dates and other important items concerning students.
"Considering our low enrollment I though the staff did an excellent job of covering the school and getting some professional experience writing and reporting," advisor Daryl Blue said.
The staff attended a journalism conference at the Kellogg Center on East Campus. Students from all over Nebraska were invited to attend
As second semester began the journalism class ran their issue of the Northeastern.

The school year provided a wide variety of events to be captured in the yearbook. As a staff we tried to capture both the good and bad that went on at Northeast as well as around the world.
The staff decided upon the theme IMAGES.
Editor Kari Sheldon and copy editor Laura Schell were in charge of designing the cover. Once the staff had decided how and what they wanted the cover to look like, junior Jason Steenbarger was asked to design the cover in a very unique way.

The Pulse, consisting of 16 students, was taught by Daryl Blue. In this class, students got experience in professional broadcast journalism by putting together a monthly television show. The shows included activities at Northeast and current events in the nation.
Chris Preston, Production Manager, said of the show, "I didn't get into the class until 2nd quarter, but I feel that this class was pretty cool. We chose our own subjects to cover, decided what we wanted said, and edited our own programs. The students were in complete control over the program."

• Chris Preston looks so enthused about his picture being taken. Courtney Sullivan and Rob Patterson declined to look at the camera.Meistersingers, directed by Jim Koudelka this year, had fourteen members. Their goal was to present songs of the Renaissance (1400 - 1600) in their original a capellea form and in authentic costume of the period.
Amanda Pierce said of their originality, "It's not everyday that a person gets to hear a song sung in five parts a capella. Audiences also really respond well to our Renaissance costumes. We look and sound different than other groups; I think that interests people."
The Meistersingers performed many times this year, including the trip to the Kansas City Renaissance Fair in October, the Madrigal Dinner at the Cotner Center, and the Holiday For Madrigals in Grand Island in February.
When asked about what he's learned from being in Meistersingers, Chris Preston said, "In the two years I've been in it, I've learned a lot about how parts are inter - connected and if one part of our music is not up to standard, the whole thing dies a miserable, horrible death. One really has to strive to learn how to blend parts together well and how to cover up a mistake. The biggest thing I've learned from Meistersingers is that men weren't made to wear tights."

Each year the musical is one of concert choir biggest acievements. However, as of early February the name of the musical to be performed was not yet publiclly known. We did know that performance dates would be April 15, 16, & 17. They also sang at graduation, th~ dedication concert for Mr. Nichols, and the holiday concerts here at Northeast.

This year's fall play presented by the drama department was called "Dinner at Eight." The cast put in about 15 hours of rehearsal a week for six weeks to get readyfortheir performance in the play which ran November 11, 12, and 13 in the school auditorium here at Northeast.
Alicia Sexton, who played a talent agent named, Alex Kane said, "We always seem to work well together, especially with the help of great leaders like Greg Chapelle!"
Alicia also said, "Mr. Chapman is a stupendous director with many great qualities, including worshiping GAK!! The onlything he hates is when you play with someone else's cat, just ask Cory Zillig!"
The cast included about 30 members. Lead roles were held by Ben Spence, and Laura Schell.

Shelly Fargo and Sarah Orth show off the famous Star Strutter kick.Last spring 18 lucky girls, along with a new sponsor (RebeccaShelbourne)were chosen as the new 199293 Star Strutter Drill team.
Of the 18, seven were second year Strutters.
Being a Star Strutter means a lot of dedication and hard work for each member of the squad.
Senior Leigh Meyer said, "I thought it ( Star Strutters) was going to be all glamour and glory, but to achieve that glamour and glory you must work hard."
The squad practiced every day for two hours last summer. During the summer, time was also spent at clinic, band camp and flag camp. During the school year practice is for an hour and a half everyday after school and often morning practices.
All their hard work paid off well at clinic as 13 girls qualified to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Miami, Florida. Each member of the squad also received a superior rating and on the last day of clinic the whole squad received the Grand Champion Award.
Keeping busy is no hard task for a Strutter. If they weren't practicing or performing they most often could be found doing fund raising, mostly car washes,
"Being a Star Strutter is a lot of fun and you end up having 17 new best friends," senior Kim Sheaff said.
First semester officers were: Co-Captains Rene Sand and Carrie Lee; Treasurer Stacia Byrnes; Merit Chairperson Leigh Meyers; Secretary Kim Sheaff; Letter Chairperson Nici Cockrill; Junior Representative Sarah Raymond. The Varsity Cheerleaders had an exciting year. You could find them at games, pep rallies, competitions, or just spreading "cheer'' around Northeast. As Captian Sandy VanArsdall said," We're the heart of ROCKET spirit".
When asked about the season, Sandy said that the most exciting events the cheerleaders were involved in were the pep rallies. She feels that they got the whole student body more involved -and not just the traditional "jocks".
Alisha Spanel said her most memorable cheerleading experience was the Nebraska 0125 and the Bill Cosby performance. Said Spanel, "We got to meet new people and cheerleaders from the other Lincoln schools that we might not have otherwise".
Both girls felt that the squad started out with differences but once they saw who was really dedicated, they all really came together and grew to be friends. The Varsity squad started out this season with eleven girls and went down to seven girls.
The Varsity Cheerleaders-The Heart Of Northeast 's Rocket Spirit.
-Kari Sheldon The cheerleading squad tries to get the student body involved in a few cheers before the pep rally is over .The juniorvarsitycheerleader squad here at Northeast has changed since the '91 -'92 school year. The reserve and sophomore squads were put together to form one group of eleven girls. This included captains Nicole Bamesberger, Tracy Clausen, Dawnelle Schuller, and Latasha Varnadoe.
As in most sports or other extra-curricular activities, there are some requirements a reserve cheerleader must have. First of all, you have to be a sophomore or junior. A person needs to be enrolled in and pass twenty hours of previous semester credit. Also, your GPA must be at least a C average.
Reserve cheerleaders participated in many activities this school year. At reserve and sophomore sporting events they cheered and handed out programs. They also helped for Homecoming and participated in Yorkfest where they won.
In the '93-'94 school year, the plans are to make the junior varsity and sophomore squads separate once again. Reserves will also plan more of their own social activites. The thought of a freshman squad in '93-'94 school year has not been decided yet. If there is, they will be a low key group. Sponsor Mrs. Killham said, "The girls this year did a great job."
-Jen Koci Jane Dougherty and Dawnelle Schuller cheer on the Rockets. The Reserve Cheerleaders show their spirit during a cheerSpirit Club has been a part of Northeast off and on for over fifty years. Recently it has become an active club once again.
There are many reasons for spirit club. Some enjoy it because they can be active in school spirit and sportsmanship without having to be a cheerleader. "Not all members wanted to be cheerleaders," captain Crystal Miller said. "Only one or two girls in the club." Others joined just to have fun and meet new people.
Spirit Club believes all clubs should be given a fair chance to prove themselves so people know more about them before judgment is passed.
Popularity of spirit club may not be well here at Northeast, but just think how in past years, this club was the "in" thing. Also, in order to be a cheerleader you had to take part in the Northeast spirit club.
-Jen KociBetween 100 and 200 students attended this year's homecoming dance which was held in the west gym of the school.
Rene Sand and Ben Tucker were host and hostess. First Attendants were Chad Bodfield and Tiffany Mar, while second attendants were Chad Bautch and Fawnia Garman.
Spirit club, junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders, as well as their parents spent about four hours setting the gym up for the dance.
Senior, Alisha Spanel had a big part in helping to organize the dance. She had to locate past Northeast cheerleaders for the pep rally and keep track of the candidates for host and hostess, as well as many other things.
There was a variety of music provided by Complete Music.
Alisha said that some of the things could have been planned better but over all she thought the night went pretty well, even though she came down with the flu, and couldn't attend.
-Jenni DickeyHere 's your chance to catch a glimpse of the host, hostess, and attendants if you were unable to attend the dance.
Suzanne Spomer and Carrie Hadon discuss their Homecoming plans while preparing decorations.Between one and two hundred students attended this year's Candlelight dance, which was held at The Lincoln Station downtown in The Haymarket.
Many students had mixed feelings about the dance. Some thought it was fun, some thought it was boring. While others said it had it's moments. Some felt it would have been more exiting if more people would have attended.
There was a d.j. that provided the students with an assortment of music for their listening pleasure. A few students felt he made the dance a little more interesting for them by trying to get everyone to have fun.
Girls have the reverse role of asking the guy to Candlelight, which helps in adding a little something unique to make the night more interesting.
No matter what you thought of the dance, the fact remains that it gave everyone a chance to spend time with their friends and dates outside of the usual school setting.
-Jenni DickeyThis year's varsity football team's 1-8 record didn't accurately reflect the Rockets' season as a whole.
The season-opening 14-0 win over Ralston started the year in a positive manner. Many of the players felt that this year would prove to be different than the previous ni ne consecutive losing seasons.
The majority of the senior team members wanted to make this a season they wouldn't soon forget.
"There were a lot of seniors who wanted this to be their best season because it would be their last," said senior Rob Patterson. Unfortunately, things didnEt quite go as expected for the Rockets .
After an optimistic beginning, the Rockets were unable to continue their winning ways. In the game against Lincoln East, players were determined to do their best due to the EastNortheast rivalry.
"There were a lot of us who were motivated to win even more simply because of the rivalry," said senior Chad Renshaw. Even the inter-city rivalry, along with a lot of hard work, wasn't enough to overcome the Spartans. East defeatd the Rockets, 21-14. Although many were disappointed to lose such a close game, Northeast kept up the hard work and never gave up.
Northeast went on to suffer three more consecutive losses before a game against North Platte offered a chance at a second win.
In the game against North Plattte, Northeast played hard and almost came out on top. Unfortunately.almost wasn't good enough. The Rockets lost a heartbreaking game to the Bulldogs, 14-12. Northeast suffered three more loses to Fremont.South Sioux City, and Lincoln High to close out the season.
Despite all of the hard work and dedication, the Rockets didn't put together the kind of season they would like to have had . "I felt that we really played hard, but things didn't really fall our way, "said Renshaw. "That was tough to deal with , considering all of the hard work we did."

RECORD:3-3
Hungry for a winning season and a desire to prove Northeast's. ability to play football droye this year's junior varsity football team to a 3-3 record.
Northeast's opening game was against Fremont. All though well known for their tough defense and fast-paced offense, the Tigers didn't quite have what it took to stop the Rockets as Northeast claimed a 24-2 win.
With one win secured, the team looked to have a winning season. Unfortunately, the Rockets suffered three con secutive loses to all three city teams.
In their second game against Lincoln High, the Northeast's running game pre· vailed. "That was our best gam~ because we pulled together as a team," said junior Steve Smith. Northeast went on to win the game against the Links, 20-12. The Rockets finished out the season with a 30-8 win against Grand Island.
"We had a great season and we accomplished a lot."
"We learned from our mistakes and worked as a team."
The sophomore football team had its ups and downs this season, finishing with a 2-5 record.
The Rockets won their first game of the season against Papillion, 13-0. "That really motivated us," said Greg Chapelle. "After we saw what we could accomplish we felt good about our potential."
Soon afterwards, however, the team fell into a slump. After a discouraging loss to Southeast, and another heartbreaking setback to Lincoln High, it seemed as if the Rockets had given up.
"After losing so many times it was like our team had forgotten how to win," Chapelle said.
The team suffered two more shutout losses before it rallied for a win against the Waverly reserves. "We came back in the final two minutes to end it all. It was an intense game," Scott Bautch said.
Unity was a team goal for the season. In the end, players learned how to help each other on the field.
The comparisons between the 1991 and 1992 volleyball teams started shortly after the '91 squad won the state championship.
Will they win two in a row? Will next year's team have as many hitters? What about the setter?
Living up to what some observers called the best high school volleyball team in Nebraska history wasn't easy for the 1992 Rockets. It didn't stop them, however, from having a highly successful season.
Northeast finished the season with a 30-5 record and advanced to the state semifinals before losing to PapillionLa Vista, a team the Rockets defeated twice during the regular season.
Northeast also defeated state champion Bellevue West twice during the season and would have played the Thunderbirds again were it not for the loss to Papillion.
For the second straight season, Northeast won at least 30 matches, joining Bellevue West as the only schools in the state to win 30 matches or more.
The Rockets lost to Lincoln East twice during the season. The second setback came in the district title match and required Northeast to use one of two Class A wild cards to qualify for the state tourney.
At state, Northeast easily defeated Hastings in the first round Friday afternoon before meeting Papillion on Saturday.
The Rockets top three hitters, in order, were Stacie Maser, Kari Keyser and Becky Ernstmeyer. Robin Voss was the top setter.
The team was rated No. 1 throughout most of the season but ended up No. 4 in the final ratings in both the Lincoln Star and The Omaha World-Herald.
Post-season honors were awarded to senior Kari Keyser and junior Stacie Maser. Maser was a first-team All-State selection while Keyser was a member of the Class A second team.

The Junior Varsity girls volleyball team had a disappointing year. They had a young team with very little experience at the start of the season and it was difficult to work together.
They ended up 1-11. Coach Brenda Ward taught them how to work together, and she pushed them hard to be the best they could be. The older girls, like juniors_ Lezlie Raridon, Carmen Summers and Sara Zimmerman, were called upon to help the youngergi rls with theirte~hniques.
"One of our main goals was to work together as a team, and by the end of the season I think we achieved that. Our record was a disappointment, but overall we played hard, and had a lot of fun," junior Lezlie Raridon said.
"It was a young team, that needed to learn how to play as a team."

The sophomore girls volleyball team had a roller coaster-like season. The Rockets lost three games to open the season, then won two. The widest margin of victory was 15-4, 15-6 against Lincoln High, but the spikers were then • upset by Lincoln High the very next match. The trend of ups and downs continued and a win over Lincoln High meant a third place finish in the LPS tournament and a final record of 5-8.
The squad was coached by Rob Huebner. He showed them that they could work together and learn from the mistakes they made.
"We had a fun time and worked really hard in the process. Coach Huebner , taught us a lot of stuff, we just didn't execute it properly," sophomore Nicole Detmer said.

Despite being young and inexperienced, the gymnastics teams were successful thanks to dedication and practice.
Both boys and girls won their dual with Ralston on September 28. The boys, led by the performance of Carlos Ceballos, defeated the Rams 129.35111.0. Ceballos, a junior, won all six events and the all-around.
The girls edged Ralston 119.15118.0. Senior Michele Kant, also known as Captain Kirk, was first in vault, bars and beam.
Since the team is young and inexperienced, the biggest achievement was, "trying to come up with enough people to compete. But everyone was willing to try something new," Kant said.
Kant said she hoped more people would go out for gymnastics next year.
At state, Kant was sixth in the allaround with a score of 36.6, third in vault (9.3) and tied for third in floor exercise (9.55).

There are nine girls on the 1992 golf team, compared to five in 1991. Hopes are high that the growth will continue over the next few years.
"The team gets along exceptionally well, which helps everyone overcome the small problems that will always arise when you're on a team," senior Jill Mason said.
The squad struggled through the 1992 season, coming in last in all but the Northeast Invitational, where they took third out of five teams. Individually, Pat Fedler finished 6th and Michelle Young was 10th.
Even though the golf team did not do as well as they would have liked, they ,had fun. Mason said there was one incident where Coach Kim Wiseman was hit by a bunch of Mason's golf balls during a light-hearted moment.
Of course it wasn't all play, there was alot of hard work and practice involved that helped all the girls improve their abilities.

This year's Northeast tennis team started off the season with the "courtbreaking" ceremonies to commemorate the relocation of the tennis courts due to the new gymnasium. The courts are now on the west side of the building. The tennis players dressed up in near-tuxedos, and had a lot of fun in front of their parents.
The team's play was not as enjoyable as the ceremonies, although their 2- 7 record was a little deceiving, but still, they had a good time. They did do fairly well at state, finishing 16th out of 22 teams.
"Although our record wasn't very impressive, we challenged many good teams, and had a lot of fun doing it, I think we all gained something from the experience," senior and No. 1 singles player, Deepak Madhavan said.
Senior Chad Bautch and sophomore Jeff Adams led the Rockets at state as the No. 2 doubles team won its first match before losing in the second round. Madhavan also won his first round match in No. 1 singles play.

Hahn who finished 8th.Senior Zac Roberts, juniors Jeremy Svoboda, and Kevin Robinson, and sophomore Bill Kirkland also contributed greatly for the proud Rockets.
This is the highest finish at a state meet by any Rocket cross country team since a 3rd place showing at the 82' boys state meet.
"We were very successful, and we turned alot of heads.I'm glad our hard work paid off," junior Ryan Regnier said.
The girls cross country team wasn't as victorious as the boys, but they had just as much fun. The squad failed to qualify any runners for the state meet. The girl's closest qualifier was Hilary Alberts, who finished 16th at districts.
Two Northeast records were broken this year at the Heartland Conference Meet. Ninth grader Hilary Alberts set a school record with a time of 16:41.16. Junior Ryan Regnier also set a school record with his time of 16:39.45.
The 92-93 Northeast Boys Varsity Basketball did not enjoy as good of a season as they have in previous years. Their record of 7 -14 was a major disappointment from their pre-season number eight ranking. They immediately dropped out of the rankings after losing three of their first four games.
"We didn't put everything we had into the games so we couldn't come away with as many wins," said junior Steve Wright.
Part of the Rockets unsuccessful season can be pinpointed to their youthfulness. With only three seniors, and six underclassmen ( three of them starters), the Rockets had a lot of inexperience.
The boy's varsity team did have a bright spot in winning the Ralston Invitational by beating the home team Ralston bytwo points.

This year's boys junior varsity basketball team had a great season, winning 75% of their games and finished with a 12-4 record.
"We were a very elite bunch of guys that played great together. The most disappointing game of the year was losing on a last second shot to Hastings in overtime. All together we held in there, and finished out with a great basketball season." said junior Craig Volzke.
The big turnaround of the season was after the 72-43 loss to Southeast. It really got the boys pumped up. "We were kind of embarrassed after losing to Southeast so badly, but it really helped us, because we never wanted to be in that position again," said junior Joe Brown. After the Southeast loss the J.V.'s went 7 and 1 losing only to Norfolk by four points, to cap off a great season.

The Northeast Rocket sophomore basketball team had a spectacular season, winning their first six games, before losing to Southeast by three points They finished with an 8-4 record.
The s ophomores had a fun season and played really well. Even though they lost four games, there wasn't one of those that they couldn't have won.
"There was a few times when we had mental lapses, and just couldn't finish out the game. Otherwise, we could have easily went undefeatd," said sophomore Jeremy Genrich about their losses.
The sophomore's also got a moral victory by beating Southeast by three points, three games after being upset, and losing for the first time.
"We felt that that game was our biggest win of the season, because we had something to prove to Southeast," said Jeremy Genrich

With only four returning players from the last year, the girls team had a rough season.
The girls did have one victory over Columbus, in which the won in over time. They had another 3 point win against North Platte.
"We got better at shooting but nothing everseemedtofallin for us," junior Brenda Allen said.
The district game against East was a game that despite the lost was played great. All the players helped contribute to the game by scoring points. "We really worked hard at that game, especially the last half," commented senior Liz Cook and junior Crystal Williams.
,iBecausewe didn't take our time, we didn't have the kind of season we would have liked to. We rushed everthing. We also didn't have a lot of height, but it evens up with our speed. I think we could have done it," Allen said.
"Both J. V. and Varsity represem Northeast not just one team."
This year's girls junior varsity basketball team had a very discouraging and disappointing season, winning only one game and losing fourteen.
"Everyone expected us to be a great team,"said junior Sara Zimmerman. "That really added to the pressures of going out and trying to play a good game. In reality, we really didn't play together as a team."
"The Fremont, Lincoln High, and Southeast were the games that we really tried hard to win because of the inter-city rivalry. Unfortunately, we came up short."
Many people would wonder what exactly caused the team to do so poorly. When asked this question Zimmerman had this to say. "We could have done a lot better on running the plays and shooting if we had put in better practices." I think the reas on we had the kind of season we did, was because we didn't work hard enough in practice."
"We had some problems which caused us to have the kind of seaon we did."

The sophomore basketball team may not have done as well as they would have liked to, but they came out of the season with one win and experience for next year.
Accor.ding to sophomore Tina Ankeny, "A reason we had such a good season was because this was the first time, for some of us, playing with who we played with. Rebounding, shooting, and most of all free throws were things the team could have done better."
"We worked as a whole more towards the end of the season a lot more than in the beginning," Ankeny said. "The games we worked extra hard to win were the games against Lincoln High and East."
• As a season it didn't turn out quite the way they had hoped but it was a season they will always remeber.

With only one returning senior and two juniors, this year's wrestling team was less experience than it has been in the past. Along with the inexperience came some new faces, who brought new talent to this years Rocket wrestling team.
"Even though the majority of wrestlers this year were either fresh man or sophomores, we found out what they are leally capable of doing. That will help out in the years to come," said junior Case Maranville.
Despite the youthfulness of the team, they proved to be a legitimate contender this season. The team placed 3rd at the Heartland Conference, their best standing all year. Northeast also sent three wrestlers to the state tourney.

"We we're great. The team was very ligh hearted."
''Gold took state, White took sixth. That's pretty good for the first year."
-Senior Chad Bautch
Guy's Volleyball was initially going to be a school sponsored event. However, a lack of intrest prohibited each school to have a team of their own. Three teams were made up of all Lincoln schools combined. Lincoln East and Capitol Volleyball Club, Gold and White. The Gold team had three Northeast members. They were Brian Allen, Scott Bossung, and Chad Martin. The White team had one Northeast member, Chad Bautch. They participated in a club league, once a week in Omaha.
Lincoln Northeast added 1O members to the Hall of Fame in 1993, including the first female inductees. Those named:
Coach Tom Kidd (45-47 & 54-67)-Coach Kidd is the first Northeast coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame who is also a graduate of Northeast.
While serving as the gymnastic coach at Northeast, Kidd's teams won nine state championships (two novice and seven optional). His teams collected nine city championships and 11 conference championships.
Roland Delaney ('44)-A field goal that he kicked to beat Beatrice, 30, is still fresh in Delaney's mind. That's not all he remembers, however.
"I would probably never have finished high school if it hadn't been for athletics. I credit Bun Galloway. He greatly influenced my life."
Jack Wood ('50)-An All-Stater in basketball, Wood played on two state championship teams. "Those two championships have to be the highlight of my athletic career," Wood said.
Hans Burchardt ('58)-A three-year letterman in gymnastics, Burchardt was state all-around champion four years and earned individual championship honors in rings and high-bar two or more years.
Myron "Skip" Peterson ('62)-A prep All-American in football, Peterson earned eight varsity letters at Northeast-three in basketball, three in baseball and two in football. Football and basketball All-Stater.
Doug Campbell ('66)-Earned nine athletic letters at Northeast, including three each in football, gymnastics and track. All-city football selection as a sophomore, All-State as a senior.
Ron Greeno ('71 )-Greeno earned six letters in cross country and track. As a senior, he was state champion in cross-country and state champion in the mile run in track. Ran at Nebraska Wesleyan for four years for his father, Coach Woody Greeno.
Peggy Liddick ('75)-An all-around athlete, Liddick participated in swimming (diving), track and gymnastics. Two-time state hurdles champion. Coached Shannon Miller in 1992 Olympics. Big Eight vault champion while at Nebraska in 1978 ,
Mike Ryan ('80)-The first wrestler to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Ryan was a state champion as a sophomore and senior. "Athletics have had a tremendous influence on me," Ryan said. • Karen Moore Peppmuller ('83)-Participated in five state tournaments in two sports. Two-time All-Stater in basketball and volleyball. Has record for longest shot in state tourney history, a 75-foot howitzer in the 1982 tournament, and volleyball record for average kills per game.

Time; like a machine , tuned & perfectly suited for its purpose. Constantly running, constantly changing things, changing lives, faces and never stopping.
The face of a little girl now is a work of art, sculpted and designed in such a short time
The stars, always dropping, always burning; The earth, always changing, moving, always running Until time takes its toll, until time runs the life from everythingdrowning all glory.
Until.. only time can tell a story

We are the ones who live to laugh, and together always smile. If another needs us anytime, we'll go that extra mile.
Some say we're wild and crazy, others say we 're quite a bore. But those who really know us best, knows we party all the more.
We have these memories In our head, all the good times that we've had. We've gone through It all together, the great times and the bad.
As we grow up slowly, we wanted to grow up fast. We wanted everyone there for us, to make these memories last.
But now that we've grown up quickly, we want to grow up slow. We want friends there to remind us, of Innocence we used to know.
Stacy Is definitely the boldest one, she knows how to play the game. Steph's not always the brightest one, but we love her just the same.
Jessica Is the quietest gal, but she'll surprise you when you're down. Nickl Is the wild red, she parties all over town.
Christi has a way with words, but she means well In her heart. Jenny Is the psycho gal, and from us she'll never part.
Shala Is the one In love, but to her friends she's always true. Shelly Is rapidly falling fast, with Jove she'll know what to do.
Sandy Is the crazy girl, she knows how to have a good time. Rene can turn the heads of all, and pick the lemons from limes.
Liz Is our super jock, she can play every game. And even though this makes us different, Inside we're all the same.
So this Is us In the open, you go and make the call. But whatever you decide, we'll still be having a ball.
We all have one thing In common that's, with our words we're clever. And there's one thing we'll always be very best friends forever.
Matt Chad Brian
